Today was kinda crazy...?
Like work was fine and went as well as it could considering I had my annual review, had to sit in on one that wasn't mine, and also had to be present for a performance improvement plan (not for me, for a co-worker).
I only received a 1% raise which doesn't even meet the standard of living raises that most companies give (which is typically 2-3% from my understanding) despite having positive feedback overall? Like... I almost feel like it was a slap in the face? I think it ended up being something like... 19¢ more an hour? Not even a whole quarter?? I don't get it. Regardless, if I wanted to quite numerous times before, I definitely want to quit now.
That wasn't even all that happened today though, when I got home I found a letter in my door stating that a new company has taken over our apartment complex. The key word there is has. I immediately went down to the office to hopefully try and speak with the now previous property manager, but everyone was gone. It was so weird, like some sort of comically hostile takeover. Like the previous people were nowhere to be found and all their stuff was in boxes. I am hoping it will be a good thing... 🤞 BUT I had already been in an ongoing discussion with the previous property manager on what was going on with our AC and she had offered up some concessions for what we had had to deal with. Thank goodness I had her confirm everything via email and I screenshot all the service requests. I am hoping the new company doesn't give any pushback on what she and I discussed. It was already promised and that should be that. I have already had to fight for 11 weeks. I am beyond tired of doing so.
Side Note: They replaced the coil in our AC unit in Wednesday. It isn't working perfectly, but it is working (albeit only a little bit better).
Anyways, so I forwarded all the emails, printed physical copies and immediately took them back with plenty more questions.
Thankfully through all that, the new leasing agents seem nice? Maybe that is a good sign?
I thought that would be it, but nope! About an hour after that, the apartment below mine caught fire. The building was evacuated and the fire department came. Thankfully, and I am truly thankful, it was a small kitchen fire that got a little out of hand. Nothing in our apartment was damaged and our sprinklers didn't go off. From my understanding, only one went off in the apartment below mine, so hopefully those folks don't have too much damage. Also, thankfully no one was hurt and, yes, we were able to get Thor out in time in the event it was worse.
Now you think the story might end there, but guess what, it doesn't.
The sprinkler that went off was damaged in the process and had to be repaired which meant the water had to be shut off so the sprinkler didn't keep running BUT instead of turning off the water at the main valve leading in to the apartment, they turned it off to the entire building... So from about 6:30 to 10:30 there was no water (they finally got it back on at 10:30 after I reached out to the interim manager via email (which I thankfully requested from the office because they didn't let anyone know what was going on with the water) because the "Emergency Line" is an answering machine).
Anyways, after my hot, sweaty, and annoying day, all I wanted to do was take a shower which I still haven't done.
But please do not get me wrong, I am so thankful that for a fire to have started, there wasn't much damage to anyone's stuff and no one was injured. I was just more frustrated when it came to the water since the office didn't let anyone know what was going on.
I know that was a book and I doubt anyone will read it, I just had to get it all out because today was so weird! Also, I am sorry for complaining so much, no one likes to listen to me express my frustrations in person, so I just try to list them here.
PS
I think I am having a localized allergic reaction on my skin from the adhesive on the bandage I wore over my tattoo (which I didn't have a reaction to with my last tattoo) OR where I was shaved to get the tattoo, the new hair growth is irritating the crap out of me so there's that too I guess.
