But anyways I genuinely enjoy the Gore follower mod in part because it subverted my expectations of what the character would be like based on the mod description. Defo not as "edgy" (can't think of a better descriptor, sorry) as I was expecting and even at the start there was quite a bit of depth to his character.

I've been reading a lot of good things about the Vigilant expansion which makes me glad I decided to run the mod on this save. I dunno if I'll ever try out the mod on one of my "main" characters but it is one I eagerly wait for updates to.

It was that crisp nightly air that made him take in a deep breath. Skyrim, for all its bandits, necromancers, giants, skeevers, dragur, and now dragons, the air was so perfectly delicious, it just melted his stress away.

Add in his favourite company- his friends he'd made along his journey- and a hot fire to cozy up next to, it was his favourite time of the day.

Chatting and laughing, eating and having good drinks, before getting ready for bed was his new favourite routine. Especially since his best friend had started a routine of her own with them.

She was such a cuddle bug and shyly asked for someone to accompany her to snuggle up against to combat the chill. Not in that way, as she's stated multiple times before due to Taliesin's teasing, but just in a lovely snuggle session way!

Normally Taliesin would be the first to be at her side, demanding to be the big spoon- not that it was difficult with his height- and looking smugly at the rest of them as he claimed his spot for the evening, but the Altmer needed to switch up his routine tonight after a harrowing encounter in a crypt.

That may or may not have been Lucien's fault.

It wasn't harmful! A skeever merely got past Lucien and triggered a trap that set off a small rumble and coated the Mer in dust and ashes, after an urn nearby shattered.

It wasn't calculated in any regard, but Lucien wasn't above using this to his advantage.

Kaidan and Inigo had their fair share of nightly cuddle sessions with their friend as well, and Lucien was not going to let them sneak past him this time!

So as Taliesin left to get cleaned up in a nearby stream, Lucien shuffled closer to Allora and cleared his throat, catching her attention.

"Yes honey?" She asked immediately, looking up from where she was arranging their sleeping bags.

"I was wondering... that is... may I...?"

Oh fiddlesticks. He hadn't really thought how hard it might be to ask.

Allora's face was confused at first, before her eyes quickly flickered with amusement. He could feel his ears growing warm as he cleared his throat again.

"I-I would like to sleep with you tonight. If that's... I mean that is to say..."

"Sure honey," she chuckled, turning back around to what she called the 'sleeping bags'. "I'd love to cuddle tonight. Been a while since we've had a sleep over, huh?"

"Yes! Sleep over. Correct." Lucien stumbled over himself, clearing his throat again awkwardly. My, it was warm. Perhaps he'd stayed too close to the fire tonight.

Definitely not feeling awkward about sleeping next to his best friend. No sirree.

"Go on and get changed, then. I'll get in my nightgown after you." Allora offered, crawling back out of the tent.

He stiffly nodded and hurried inside, not knowing how long he had before Taliesin returned.

As he changed into his nightly attire, he peeked out of the tent to see Allora giving Inigo and Kaidan goodnight hugs, feeling soothed that she wasn't taking up any more offers to sleep next to them as well. Or at least, actively asking.

He'd been used to her wanting everyone to feel included, and thus, sharing with Kaidan and Inigo whenever they were doing something. But... at least tonight he wanted something for himself.

He stepped out of the tent and waited for her to get changed, struggling to keep himself from smiling widely. He did it! He managed to ask her for a sleep over! He was over the moon.

That quickly dropped as he saw Taliesin walking back over in the distance.

At the same time, Allora poked her head back out and smiled up at him. "Ready!"

Smiling nervously, not knowing what the Mer would do, he hurried inside and carefully laid down next to her, watching the other two pile in on their respective furs.

Allora gently pulled him closer and held him close to her chest, gently scratching and massaging his head with her nails. Stiff and bright red, Lucien couldn't figure out what to do from here.

It had been a while since they'd slept next to one another.

"You okay?" She asked quietly, pausing in her ministrations.

He let out a high pitched, 'Mhm!', remaining stock still.

But after hearing Taliesin shuffling outside of the tent, Lucien realized the Mer might try to talk the both of them out of it. Allora might mistake his nerves for discomfort and offer him an out- which would give Taliesin a chance to swoop in.

No. He needed to become comfortable.

Adjusting himself, he instead moved to lay against her stomach, wrapping his arms around her, and sighed. Hiding his face against not her chest was a lot more comfortable. For multiple reasons.

Her soft laugh came about and she resumed scratching his head in that relaxing way, carefully pulling her thick cloak over the both of them like a blanket.

And as he was almost perfectly settled, the tent flap peeled open to reveal Taliesin- who stared in surprise before it morphed into discontent.

"I cannot believe I'm being tossed to the side, merely because I needed to clean myself!" He huffed. He stuck a finger out at Lucien, scowling. "I believe you're in my spot."

"He asked first, Taliesin," Allora chided the Mer. "Maybe next time ask before you go off to bathe."

"Wh- the nerve!" Taliesin argued. "I go into dangerous caverns, nearly eaten by a skeever, and covered in only the Gods know what- to be denied my pillow?!"

"I am not your pillow," Allora muttered.

"You are often taking time with her whenever we set up camp," Lucien tacked on, willing himself not to wither under Taliesin's stare. "I asked and she accepted. I'm certain you'll be able to have your sleep over tomorrow night."

"'Sleep over,'" Taliesin rolled his eyes.

"That's what she calls it!" He argued in defense, feeling like Taliesin was mocking him.

"Fine! I suppose I'll have to go to my lumpy fur bedding-"

"There are no lumps," Allora argued monotonously.

"-Cold and alone-"

"We are right next to you," Inigo added.

"-Likely to have nightmares-"

"I'll become yer nightmare real fast if you don't shut up," Kaidan groaned, rubbing his face tiredly.

"-And only wistfully look at my friend sharing the evening with someone else," Taliesin dramatically finished, ignoring everyone.

"Jesus christ," Allora groaned above his head, leaning it back. "Fine."

"What?" He asked, popping his head up from her stomach. "But-!"

"It's just tonight sweetheart," she said, giving him an apologetic smile. "I'm really tired. And I just want to sleep."

"But I asked first!"

"And he's a whiney brat," Allora huffed, sparing Taliesin a dry glance. "Please?"

Lucien frowned. Normally he would be above arguing for the sake of helping create peace, but...

He asked fair and square.

"No. I don't think those who whine like a child should get what they ask for." He said, huffing angrily. Taliesin gasped, clutching a hand to his chest.

"A child?!"

"Yes. You're a child, who demands and demands until he gets what he wants. I won't agree to it." Lucien snubbed the Mer, settling back down and clung to Allora.

"How dare you-!"

"For the love of Christ," Allora swore, cutting him off. "I have two hands, god damn it! Just get over here! Either you both lay down next to me, or I'm sleeping by myself!"

The tent was silent as Lucien and Taliesin shrank at her threat, neither wanting to lose ground. Taliesin huffed and shuffled his fur over to theirs, quickly settling down and scooting under her cloak.

It just barely fit the three of them, with Taliesin's height. Lucien glared at the Mer against Allora's stomach as she reached around to tangle her other hand in Taliesin's dark locks.

Said Mer was glaring down at him where he was resting against her chest, just above her heart, as Allora resumed scratching Lucien's head.

Though a minor truce for now, neither Lucien nor Taliesin would forget this moment. They'd become bitter rivals for the honour of resting peacefully against Allora during the calm quiet nights.

At least until they fell asleep.

This is Ma'Sharri (Lucky child). She's a 19yo Ohmes-Raht. If I had to give her a class, I'd say a Merchant (with a minor in Thief). I have yet to make her in game, and I haven't drawn in forever so a Picrew will have to suffice (I quite like the results of this one anyway. If I'd change anything on it, I'd give her some light striping on her short, tan-brown fur). I'm having a hard time finding flow-y sorta gypsy-like clothing that I'd like her to have. Besides, I'm still working on making modlists for each OC.

She grew up in a trade caravan in Anequina along with a few other children. She of course learned many common skills prized by the Khajiit (stealth, agility, cleverness...petty thievery...). She also took to crafting and enchanting trinkets, jewelry, and charms for the caravan to sell. She quite enjoys working with the little bits and pieces, and talking customers into buying her wares.

She's a very upbeat and energetic young woman who usually has a smile on her face. Often looking at the brighter side of things and thinking the best of people, she can sometime get into some trouble. While not particularly strong, she's not to bad with a dagger or two. But mostly just runs away and evades any aggressors.

Unfortunately, a tragedy happens to the caravan (I have yet to decide what happens) and her parent(s) are killed among other caravan members. While grieving she still kept a smile, though a bit subdued and tired. After a while she decided she needed a change of pace and decided to seek out her uncle Ri'saad and his own traveling caravan.

Now, I have yet to decide if she has the canon start to the game, and if she's even Dragonborn or not. My brain is a bit vague when coming up with backstory, this is the most fleshed out I've made it in all honesty. Once in Skyrim, she amasses a few companions. I'm still working on who, but I've decided that she will definitely have Khash as she is also a teenager having been thrust into the world and looking for adventure. Inigo will very likely join them, I'm iffy on Lucien, perhaps some from Khajiit will follow. I mostly want a found family type thing that will band together and protect the young'uns until they get stronger. So if anyone has follower suggestions that might fit that, I'm up for recommendations.

She'll likely learn some healing spells and minor destruction spells to assist her compatriots. I found this "Dance to buff allies/curse enemies" mod that I'm thinking of for her... I'm not sure what questlines she'll get in to. I'm thinking of focusing her more on her merchant abilities. She likely won't get into any romances, and she's mostly just looking for some adventure. I'll probably use a mod where exp is gained by exploring and completing quests than the vanilla leveling system.

I've also got Pahmar & Dagi-Raht OCs that I could share, if you like. Though they're much less fleshed out than Ma'Sharri.

- Lucien Flavius headcanons .

Lucien is book smart but absolutely not people smart. if you ask if he's flirting with you when he talks to you the first time, he stammers over his words and makes it sound *even worse*, which is so dorky and adorable to me. He knows a lot about history and random facts about the Dwemer, but he doesn't know how to adapt that knowledge to people. I mean, what he knows doesn't even begin to translate to socializing.

But he's still so naturally charismatic in a silly goofy way. He sings songs, does rhyming games with Inigo, tells you scary stories by the fire, etc etc. He has RIZZ he just doesn't know how to use it. or that it even exists.

(This man giggles and tells me I made him blush and I'M FUMBLING SO HARD IM TAKING SCREENSHOT AFTER SCREENSHOT- he did a little idle pose where he tilted his head and I squawked like a bird in shock.)

and his REACTION when you activate the lover stone.... whatever he says, he ends it with "not that I... ah..." like he's gonna say "not that I'm not interested in you!" or whatever. I forget the specifics of what he said, but he's saying the stone is better for the player and not for him, and is just generally embarrassed. I'd wager he's never been in a relationship before. He's always been study study study, books books books. And daydream daydream DAYDREAM.

Good lord his head's in the clouds sometimes. He's also confident in a weird way? Like he has self doubt, evident by how he asks Inigo "do you think I'm useful?". But when you kill your third dragon with him, he makes an off handed comment and calls your team "team Lucien". so he definitely has a fully fed ego from his very loving parents who gave him EVERYTHING. It's not like he ever asked his parents for dating advice, though. He never thought he'd need it!

So here he is, fumbling and turning bright red as he tries to convey his feelings.

"Well... you see, what I wanted to talk to you about was, I think I'm... No, I know I'm- would that even be the right word? I do really like you but can I even call it that? i-"

and he goes on and on. Can he say it? can he just say he's in love? isn't that a strong word?the poor guy is losing it.

He's totally a little spoon. He's barely even toned. Skinny and short, he needs to be protected and kept warm! Skyrim is a harsh land, very cold! He over thinks romantic gestures though. and affection.

He wants to hold your hand but "oooh is that okay? should he ask or would that be weird? but you're so stunning illuminated by the campfire... maybe he wants to kiss you instead - NO too much!" It gets him blushing just thinking about making a move like that!!!!

Oftentimes he will ask and need to be reassured he's doing the right thing by asking, or told he doesn't have to ask. depending on personal preference, ofc.

He's a darling angel. Don't worry, he gains confidence overtime! He can kiss you on the cheek and not feel like he's gonna explode! he still gets embarrassed, especially if you tease him over it.

"Aawww, still in love with me, Flavius?"

"Oh gods, not this again..."

You could never annoy him, even if his tone says otherwise. He gets frustrated being teased, but that's just overcooked embarrassment if you think abt it.

Loves pda but would never admit it... he feels comforted by it, just as long as it's not too much.

Hold his hand or wrap your arm around his waist. Bonus points if you do this while in windhelm. hates that fucking city, but LOVES showing u off to the Nords... look he's dating the fucking last dragonborn and ur not... who's the milk drinker now huh bitch???

Lucien loves to just relax after a long day. Reading to you is his favorite. He'll even try to cook dinner for the both of you if you're too tired after a whole days worth of preventing dragons from singing his ass.

As you fall asleep, head resting on his lap as he reads to you, Lucien will silently stroke your face and close his book.

And just… sit there. Admiring you. How did he ever get so lucky? You've saved him more time than he could count… He hopes his love is enough to repay you for that.

Not really. She generally resorts to violence only in self-defense or if someone pissed her off really bad. She loves to talk shit and destroy someone with words, in true bard fashion, be petty or write a song/poem about someone who really angered her and spread the art throughout all of Tamriel so that everyone knows that person is a jackass!

As a nord, she does prefer colder drinks. She doesn’t mind hot tea or coffee, but nothing compares to the beautiful simplicity of nord mead, and its effects upon her! Sujamma also always comforts her, reminding her of simpler times at the inn that she grew up in, back in Morrowind.

🌌 MILKY WAY - what was the inspiration behind your oc? what was the first thing you decided about them?

The very first think I decided about her was that I was finally going to make a mage character after modding Skyrim thoroughly so that the magic system would be cooler. I made her and played around with the racemenu until I got exactly what I wanted, which was a sarcastic black-haired, green-eyed nord! It was also the first time playing Skyrim as a nord, and it felt so right to make her my canon Skyrim oc, which was going to end up with Miraak anyway, because I could never kill him! I got the Lucien and Inigo mods and was absolutely obsessed with Rumarin at the time! It was also at this time that I made my tumblr account to consume even more TES media :)). I was reblogging lots of stuff and then someone tagged me to make a picrew of her, and I did! And when I tried to describe her my hand slipped and made an entire backstory for her! After that I got tagged in another tag game, I believe it was a wip Wednesday sort of thing, but the problem was that I had no wip! So I opened a word document and started typing, and I couldn’t stop! I was listening to this song and I kept imagining stuff and banter with the fellowship and them singing the song! I love sea shanties and decided to project this love of mine onto her, so then I made her a bard! And I thought that she has to be funny and jolly and not very serious! And so the very beginning of my fic came to be! With them singing, drunk in a dinghy searching for treasure, at the dawn of a new day, because it marked the dawn of this wonderful adventure I’m having right now, writing and sharing it with you all and meeting other wonderful, wonderful people in the TES community! This is already a huge block of text, so I should stop, but I’m very emotional and nostalgic about this question because I love my Ravonna and everyone in this fic dearly! They’re okay I guess… from afar, and when they already grow up and aren’t children anymore… yeah maybe she doesn’t like kids that much. She grew up in a tavern, surrounded by adults, and only left for the guild of mages in Vivec when she was a young adult herself. It’s not that she hates kids or anything, she’s just not that kind of person. She definitely doesn’t want kids of her own. A mother is the last thing she sees herself as.

🎵 MUSIC NOTE - what is their playlist like? their favourite artists? do you associate a particular song with them?

OOOH BOY, I LOVE THIS QUESTION! In a modern AU? She would definitely be a metalhead. In the world of Skyrim? She has a whole notebook that is split in two: one half with favourite collected songs. I see Tamriel bards sharing songs with each other so that more people get to hear their compositions, so long as you give proper credit. But if you don’t give credit, you’re considered dishonorable, and you’re not worthy of the ‘bard’ title. She hates people who don’t give credit with a passion and is sure to rat them out every time. The other half is with her own songs, written and composed by her! She’s definitely that person who would stop in a fight and scribble something in there if that’s when inspiration strikes! It’s not easy being a bard and saving the world…

Her favourite artist, or bard is, of course, Hjaldir. She grew up with that man. She fell asleep to the sound of his singing voice, she learnt to play so many instruments from him, she listened to so many amazing and captivating tales from his pirate days, they sang together so much! She looks up to him and wishes to be as successful of a bard as he is! Being an ex-pirate, he is very well known throughout the whole continent. His shanties are sung in countless inns! And people know of his tales and shenanigans. Something tells me that she will be just like that by the end of the fic, even more than that 😉

I’ve associated my girl with lots of different songs! From 'This Wandering Day', to 'The Wizard', but lately this song (I also imagine her voice sounding something like this) has stood out, because I’m thinking of incorporating this song in my fic, as if she wrote it! The lyrics make lots of sense with what I want to do in the story, but essentially, she had a bit of a warning, or a spoiler, if you will, about the whole ‘Dovahkiin’ prophecy when she was little and had a weird dream. Akatosh works in mysterious ways, but you’ll see what I’m talking about when we’ll be several chapters deep in this fic!

And since I’ve already rambled so much, what’s a little more? Especially when talking about music. I associate ‘Follow You’ with the whole fellowship, as they would follow her through hell and back, no matter what. I also see ‘So What’ as a Ravonna song! She is a rockstar.

People might have realized at this point that I’m doing my BIGGEST CONVERSION YET of my skyrim game by finally taking a stab at most of the horny shit I’ve been disdaining till now for the sake of, like... forming an honest opinion over it and also because I’m an ABSOLUTE IDIOT.

Anyway, I’m trying to set up some things right, put Maids 2 on, you know, like a fool, put on Amorous Adventures Plus which SHOULD have fixed all the bugs and made the dialogue less cringy, set up the flower girls framework, set up CBBE and SOS but I specifically got 5 side CBBE mods FOR THE ONLY PURPOSE of making all female NPCs buff as fuck by equating their weight and height stats with their muscles and then cranking it all to max and shit while keeping men virtually untouched, and I’ve decided to finally try some of those same follower mods I’ve always scoffed at.

I’m getting somewhere so stay with me.

Anyway, keeping in mind I’m NOT putting Yuriana the Buxom Tank Wench on because Jesus Christ even I have standards, I have decided to mostly check on  Nachtdaemmerung77, which mostly got to me because they do have some muscle definition at least, and all seem to have a semblance of personality if not an actual one in the case of a couple of them. Anyway, he has a couple followers and all, and among them are two redguards.

Now, standalone Redguard followers with a personality are actually pretty rare believe it or not, even more so than Argonians before Khash, so most of them are technically just... generic followers with a pleasing to the eye form regardless of gender, so when I find out apparently one of the two followers require an entire quest to actually get her as follower and has an actual storyline and personality and shit, I decide to put her on at least for this one playtrhough just to check on her to see what is she all about.

(On a unrelated note I guess Khash will have to sit this one out. I don’t really feel comfortable with having her in my party when I’m doing any of this. I guess I can still keep her in the mod loadout and still have the core gang of her, Inigo, Lucien and Styx the Shadow Dog, BUT the second I start any kind of Amorous Adventures or Maids or any of the other mods out there she’s sent back to Riverwood ASAP where I guess Triss Marigold the Fully Voiced and Completely Lore Friendly Witcher Follower can babysit her).

Anyway, here’s the reason why I made this post.

THIS is Shindara, the more expanded on of the two followers, DEFAULT outfit she comes along with in the mod:

Anyway, this is her DEFAULT outfit, the one she is sold on. Very generic as far as female bikini armors go, and she’s supposed to be a fire mage rather than a warrior (That’s Yashira, the other Redguard). You see this, and you see yet another run of the mill Nexus female follower.

But then, right as you install the mod on MO2 and the FOMOD shows up and you check all the things you need to check...

The Mod throws a curve ball at you.

This is the first time you’ll hear me say it, but THANK FUCK Todd decided to be a bitch and make all Alikir Warriors in skyrim men, now their vanilla, traditional clothing doesn’t have a watered down version for female character like stuff like the Forsworn Armor does, so we can get this fucking gem!

LOOK AT THIS. WORDS CAN’T BEGIN TO DESCRIBE HOW PLEASENTLY AMAZED I AM I AM ALLOWED TO HAVE THIS. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADVERTIZED FROM THE START, HELL, THIS SHOULD BE A FEATURE ON EVERY SINGLE FEMALE FOLLOWER ON THE NEXUS, THE SPECIFIC SETTING OF PUTTING THEM IN GENDER NEUTRAL GARB.

I HONESTLY FIND THIS OUTFIT THOUSANDS OF TIMES HOTTER THAN THE ORIGINAL ONE FOR ONE THING, AND FOR ANOTHER IT’S WAY LESS JUVENILE THAN THE PREVIOUS OPTION.

BRAVO TO THE AUTHOR HONESTLY. THE MOD IS PROBABLY STILL NOT AS GOOD AS I THINK IT WILL BE BASED ON THIS ONE OPTION BUT DAMN IF MY EXPECTATION HAVENT BEEN RAISED.

I think rabbitt confirmed that khash just wears the clothes that’s under her armor but if it was an option and canonically in Skyrim , I’d think she’d definitely wear the pajamas kinda shaped like a dragon (idk what they’re called, i don’t think it’s called a onesie but it’s like the cute pikachu pajamas???)

Kaidan… if he’s traveling then like khash he wears the clothes under his armor to bed. If he’s by himself I’m sure he’s the type to wear sweatpants and nothing else.

Lucien definitely has designated sleepwear. Matching jumper and bottoms he got as Christmas gifts from his parents. He also totally wears socks to bed.

Inigo doesn’t, like he’ll wear clothes to bed when traveling with people, by himself: total home nudist.

Rumarin also strikes me as a home nudist, but probably wears clothes anyways because of the fact he’s had to just pick up and bolt one too many times without his trousers.

Lucifer has a favorite moth eaten pair of pants and top that he just refuses to get rid of because it feels nice against his scales and he hasn’t found anything else that is as comfortable.

Meet Cree; my new OC!

I came up with the idea for him last night while half asleep "what if a bull shark mermaid had bull horns???" And I just kinda drew what came to mind!

Anyways, Cree is my lil Boi now.

SOME FACTS ON CREE:

He is able to breathe in salt water and fresh water, like bull sharks.

He really likes sparkly/shiny things and will put them on strings to wear or gift to others.

He doesn't know his birth parents, but believes they were a minotaur and a mermaid.

He's very curious by default, but gets bored easily.

While not being dangerous for him;if he swims on his back underwater, he gets stuck sometimes.

Sometimes bleps.

Has definitely gotten his tounge peircing caught on his teeth.

Elves hanging out pt 2 [pt 1]

Both Lavellan share their experiences to Wylarin and Mialee, their stories and trials very similar except fir a few minor differences, namely who they romanced and whether they forgive Solas or not (Mahanon does, Ellena does not)

They both also have a specific party they tend to bring

The dragonborn joins the party!!!

Introducing Elruin Rosegrass, descendant of Wylarin Rosegrass herself (ESO vestige)

Elruin is a one handed warrior who also dabbles in minor magika, mainly healing spells to heal her traveling companions Lucien, Inigo, Cicero, Khash, and her husband Kaidan. She's a mother of four children: Blaise, Lucia,Sofie, and Alesian.

Elruin already has taken down Alduin and so she has plenty of free time to join any guild she chooses. She's already gotten into trouble in the mages college but it's nothing she can't fight her way through.

"A bosmer." Both answered her, secretly sharing worried looks because to them it seemed she was forgetting who she was.

"Okay… what's the dietary restrictions for bosmer again? I forget…"

"carniv… Oh. OH- Bastian she can't eat plants!"

A little thing I thought of when playing on ESO today: "what if Bastian made a potion for a bosmer vestige but they couldn't eat it because its got plants in it" and since I play as a bosmer, I just kinda... wrote it. For me, its canon that the vestige, Mirri and Bastian all share a brain cell.

Mahannon Lavellan- Dragon age inquisition, rouge, dalish

Wylarin Rosegrass- Elder scrolls online, night blade(rouge), wood elf

I decided I'd draw a little set of images with all of them together, this is the first of them and so I decided to draw them fighting together in their armor before the Lavellan elves defeat their main enemy.

The next images will be of them just vibing with each other in casual clothes and telling stories.

I'm thinking about this again and I think I have a more definitive answer for why I think these mods are so cool so here's my Extremely Niche Essay That I Did Not Write To Avoid My Philosophy Homework Earlier

(under the cut as always bc i hate to make people scroll)

So to start from like, a basic point, obviously one of the primary draws of TES as an rpg series (and more specifically as an open world rpg series) is the ability to create a character and kind of craft your own narrative for that character, be it through gameplay experiences, using the world as a starting point for writing, etc. And people get like, really attached to these characters they make and the stories that they write surrounding them (although I don't think that really bears repeating either) and it manifests in like, yknow, art and fanfiction and all kinds of cool stuff. I think they're all equally fascinating mediums and I enjoy looking through all of them (I just like seeing people's ocs, man.) but there's something that just really compels me a lot about people modding their ocs directly into the game.

I think the primary factor is just, like, the meta aspect to it- you're placing the character you made for that specific world into said world in an interactable format- looping around from appreciating a game as a player to contributing something to that same game that other players can then appreciate. And since you're doing that, you end up with a situation where people can learn about your oc gradually through gameplay like they would any other character that comes with the vanilla game. There's just something nice about it, yknow? Like, I really enjoy that My Funny Little Video Game Guy can, in some way, interact with Your Funny Little Video Game Guy in the original context that both of them were created for.

It's not, like a 1:1 thing all the time, obviously- the ocs people create solely for themselves as player charas and the ocs that they put into npc and follower mods are most often very different types of characters, because the structure of the game requires them to be. You run into a lot of narrative, engine, immersion and player convenience issues that you otherwise wouldn't in a different format (ex. it's tough to have a character object morally to certain in-world things if they're core elements of the gameplay loop, ya obviously can't import your ldb into the game as a 1:1 because it breaks narrative stuff, the CK sucks, etc.) and you do have to work around them, but I don't know- whether they're people's long-time personal ocs or a character made specifically for the mod in question, I just always find the whole thing cool.

Skyrim also suffers from a lack of compelling characters and actual player choice, so there's an added bonus there as well- stuff like INPC, CoT and standalone characters tend to add quests and dialogue options with heavier consequences than those in the vanilla game, which allows a little more agency to the player. These range from small changes to actual vanilla quests (Auri reacts to joining the stormcloaks among other choices, a number of things can happen to Lucien if you decide to kill Paarthurnax, etc) to more self-contained choices (INPC quests and dialogue, the sleeping dragon in CoT, whatever you decide to do with Inigo) but both create stronger roleplaying opportunities.

This whole thing, in general, isn't exclusive to Skyrim, of course- people have been adding new characters into games for ages. But I think the stark contrast between the very bleak and impersonal attitude of skyrim and the new opportunities and characters provided by npcs mods makes it kind of standout in this case. It's nice.

Anyway, TLDR;

i have like. Thoughts about how cool i think npc and follower mods are from a creative/artistic standpoint but i Cannot figure out how to word that shit eloquently enough to write a post ab it for the life of me
