Summary: After a rest in Refuge following the events that occurred in Capitol City, Bucky and Sam embark on a new adventure aboard the Generous Rogue to search for treasure.

Snippet:

Sam turns to find Sarah making her way toward them. Bucky stands up straighter as she makes her way over to them. Her head is down; she’s careful to avoid tripping on any roots. She stops a little further from them than necessary, her eyes going from Bucky to the knife in his hand and then back to Sam. “Ms. Wilson,” Bucky greets politely, inclining his head. Sarah manages a smile that doesn’t even look that awkward this time. “Hey,” she greets. “What’s going on, Sarah?” Sam asks with a smile that feels as strained as their relationship is right now. “Becca asked me to find you,” Sarah answers, looking at Bucky again. “She said town hall needs you for something.” “Thank you,” Bucky says politely. “I’ll head over there now then.” He hands the pomegranate to Sam with the skin completely scored, so Sam can tear it open. “I’ll see you later,” Bucky promises, stepping away. Sam reaches out and catches Bucky’s hand before he’s made it further than a step. “Take it easy on that leg,” Sam reminds him before pulling Bucky close for a quick peck on the lips. Bucky seems to be trying to limit their displays of affection around Sam’s family, maybe out of respect, maybe because he’s aware that Sam’s family isn’t used to seeing Sam this way. Regardless, Sam doesn’t have the same inclinations. Sam’s not going to limit himself just for his family’s sensibilities, not here. Not at home. Bucky smiles. “I will, sweetheart,” he promises. Then he turns his eyes to Sarah. “Thank you again,” he says before turning away and making his way toward town. When he’s out of earshot, Sarah turns to Sam, eyeing the pomegranate in Sam’s hand. “You know, there’s a story about a god who tricked a goddess into marrying him using pomegranate seeds,” Sarah says, eyeing the one in Sam’s hand. Sam rips a slice from it and clears some of the pulp away before popping a couple seeds into his mouth. Once he’s swallowed, he says, “I’ve read versions of that same myth where she knew what it meant and chose to eat them.” Sarah nods, frowning. “How does that version go?” “The goddess wanted her family, and she wanted to marry the god they all hated.” Sam shrugs and eats another seed. “She figured eating half a year’s worth of seeds split the difference.” “How does that version end?” Sarah asks with a frown. “The same as the other version,” Sam answers, “except that she’s happy.” Sarah hums. “Seems like you ate more than half the seeds.” “Well, this is real life, not a myth,” Sam says. “Life doesn’t usually have convenient endings.”
