Because Eärendil had undertaken this errand on behalf of Men and Elves, and not for his own sake, Manwë forbore to deal out the punishment of death that was due; and because both Eärendil and Elwing were descended from a union of Elves and Men, Manwë granted to them and their sons the gift to choose to which race they would be joined (a gift that was further passed to the children of Elrond, who became known as the Half-elven). Elwing chose to be one of the Elves. Eärendil would have rather been one of the Men; however, for the sake of his wife, he chose to be one of the Elves.

The Valar, having listened to Eärendil's plea, went with a mighty host to Middle-earth, and overthrew Morgoth, and bound him. Eärendil took part in the battle, riding on Vingilot beside Thorondor and the Eagles. It was his blow that slew the great dragon Ancalagon and cast it down onto Thangorodrim, the event which, along with the sheer devastation caused by the War of Wrath, led to the Ruin of Beleriand.Eärendil's fate was to eternally traverse the Great Ocean with the Silmaril that Beren and Luthien had wrested from Morgoth and guard the Sun and Moon.

In the Second Prophecy of Mandos, it is told that Eärendil will return from the sky for the love of the Sun and Moon that Melkor would blot out, and fight in the Dagor Dagorath.

Uinen loves all creatures that lived in the saltwater streams of the world and the weeds that grew in them. Her love calmed the violent tidal waves and storms created by Ossë her husband by keeping him in line and not going too far. Her hair spread throughout waters and lies on their surfaces. During the early days Arda, Ossë rebelled against his Lord Ulmo (Lord of All Waters) and served Melkor instead, being carried away by the false promises that Melkor gave to him. From then on, for a while, there rose great tumults in the sea that wrought great ruins to the lands. At that point, and also because of the prayers of Aulë who created those lands, Uinen helped bring Ossë back to the allegiance of their lord Ulmo by restraining her husand and bringing him before Ulmo. Following that, Uinen's husband was pardoned and gave his allegiance back to the Valar remaining thereafter faithful then ever to them.[To the Maiar Uinen and Ossë, Ulmo their lord gave them the task of the governing of the waves and the movements of the Inner Seas. Plus ever afterwards, Uinen was the one who restrained her Spouse's violence in the seas and on the coasts.

Later on, the Teleri remained long on the coast of the western seas, awaiting still for Ulmo to take them to Aman. Likewise, Uinen and Ossë came among the Teleri at the coasts and befriended them. In addition, the Teleri had much love for Uinen and her spouse, for Uinen and Ossë continued being friends with the Teleri who then dwelt by the mouths of the great river Sirion of Beleriand which flowed into the sea.Ultimately, the Teleri with their King Olw�� at last reached Aman where they built their dwelling as a city-haven named 'Alqualondë' on the shores of Eldamar in Aman. However later on, the 'Kinslaying at Alqualondë' took place at the Swanhaven of the Teleri where Fëanor, eldest son of King Finwë of the Ñoldor, and his host of exiled Ñoldor attacked the Teleri and forcefully stole their white ships for their voyage to Middle-earth. Notwithstanding though, Uinen wept for the many of the Telerin mariners who had been wickedly slain and tossed into the sea. What's more, the sea then rose in great wrath by Uinen against the Noldorin slayers in that so many of the Telerin ships were wrecked and those of the Ñoldor in them were drowned.

When the Hiding of Valinor took place, Ossë raised the enchanted Isles. Then next, Uinen enchanted those who ever managed to reach the Isles by weaving them in her hair before Irmo (Master of Dreams & Desires) put them to age-long sleep.

Second Age

In the Second Age, the mariners of Númenór would cry to Uinen for help, because she was the only one capable of calming Ossë who loved to create tumults in the seas. And the Númenóreans lived under her protection while their respect for the Valar endured. Therefore, the Númenóreans held the Maia Uinen in reverence as equal to the Valar.

Parents of kids lost to violence gather school supplies for Kansas City students

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Book bags and pencil cases aren’t the kind of things that normally bring tears to your eyes – unless you know you’ll never buy them. Because your child won’t have a First Day of School, because they were shot and killed.

The air around 73rd and Indiana was thick and humid on Saturday, and carried a steady beat. Under the pavilion, people ate hot dogs and chips. Nearby, a table was covered with school supplies.

And then the dance music paused. A man took the microphone and began to pray. It was a prayer for everyone going back to school, and for those who would never go to school.

Charity Hooper’s daughter is one of those who will not go back to school.

“The back to school time, it hits me hard,” she said, “because she would’ve been going to 6th grade this year.”

Hooper’s daughter was Angel Hooper. She was killed at the 7-Eleven gas station at 107th and Blue Ridge in October of 2014.

“I want to keep her memory alive,” said Charity. “I want her name alive. And not just her. There’s Montell. There’s Jayden. There’s Machole.  There’s Baby Smoothie.  Amorian Hale.  The list just goes on and on and on,” said Charity. “And it’s terrible.”

Amorian Hale died five year ago, at the age of 3. He was killed in a drive-by by bullets not meant for him. His mother never got a chance to wonder what kind of backpack he would want.

“You can’t replace that void, you can’t replace that,” said Monee McKinney as she walked around Noble Park with her other children, Amorian’s siblings, on Saturday. “You can’t fill it with anything else. Because that is where that child was supposed to be.”

McKinney said she came to the school supply rally for her other children, to keep Amorian’s name alive, and to be here for other families who lost children as well.

“I think that this really helps me get through it,” said McKinney. “It’s one of my ways of hoping and getting through it.”

And with each dance song that thundered through the speakers, each person understood. The whole event was orchestrated by Justice4Angels, a non-profit to help families navigate the system after a child has been murdered.

“This is in honor of our children,” said Ashley Newson, the founder of Justice 4 Angels, “because unfortunately, they’re not going back to school.”

Each one of the 75 people at the pavilion interacted with the non-profit because each person lost someone to gun violence. And each one wants it to stop.

As Angel’s mother Charity said, “Our children are our future. And if we keep killing our children, we won’t have any future.”

On Sunday, August 11th, there will be another School Supplies giveaway. Healing Pathway Victim Service Agency, a local 501c3 organization, dedicated to supporting children of homicide victims, will host a back to school supply giveaway, for surviving co-victims.

Its founder, Monica Roberts, said in an email that “the number of children continues to increase for this event as the number of homicides in the city have increased rapidly.”

The event will include children that have lost a parent, caretaker, or sibling to homicide in the metro area. Children will receive school supplies, toiletries, and other items for their first day of school.  The event is expected to serve nearly 100 children. Mayor Quinton Lucas will be attending to support the families of homicide victims.

As the name implies, ArtsTech empowers young people through art and technology. The group partners with the city, COMBAT and the Missouri Department of Public Safety.

Paseo Academy Graduate Felix Maull, who first came to ArtsTech when he was 14, is one of the program's success stories.

"I think literally when I began art, the first thing I wanted to do was draw a face," Maull said while sitting in front of one of his creations.

Faces figure prominently in his work, as do the vivid hues of a sunset. The eyes are often larger than life.

"This is me making eyes the way that I think they should look versus how they are," Maull explained.

When Maull started at ArtsTech, he was enrolled in the digital literacy program, where he learned about repairing computers. After mastering the technology side of things, Maull drifted to the arts.
