Translation of the lyrics below ⬇️
Yes by Nando Reis feat. Jão
Yes, since I saw you I wanted you
I wanted to kidnap you
I made an altar to receive you
Like an angel that fell from the sky
Wasn't flying
Walking, got distracted
Yes, and now
I want to go back from the sky
I want to be back
I want to have you when I'm back
I want you for me
I can't stand being alone

STORY SUMMARY: The magical world your grandmother told you about had always been real to you. Once she passed away, you find yourself honoring her memory by searching for the one magical creature she could never find.
CHAPTER SUMMARY: The forest dwellers pay their respects to the Magic Mother as you start your journey.
ONE
Since before you could walk, your grandmother told you stories of mythical creatures and magical people. She told you of her encounters with fairies, nymphs, spirits, and many other fantastical creatures. Your grandmother had made it her mission to understand all creatures, even the ones who were rumored to be evil.
Even though your mother waved it off to your grandmother’s eccentric ways, you believed everything she told you. As you grew, you wanted to be just like Tata, becoming friends with the creatures of the woods. When you were brave enough to explore the trees behind your home, you would keep a sharp eye out for spheres of lights, quiet rustle of leaves, or movement out of the corner of your gaze. When you left home to figure out who you were as an adult, Tata gave you an old, large book and a few wise words.
“Dance beneath the stars as you drink in the night. Let the thunder overtake you as lightning fills the sky, feel the force of nature penetrate your skin, spin with the world as the magic sings in.” She gave you a gentle smile, cupping your cheek with a wrinkled hand. “Christy Ann Martine, one of my favorite poets of this time. She speaks the truth.”
With teary eyes, you hugged her frail body close, somehow knowing this would be the last time you would get to hold Tata in your arms. Your mother hugged you afterwards, and began to give you a list of motherly tips on living on your own and keeping yourself safe out in the world. As you listened, your grandmother watched from the rocking chair a few feet away, eyes shining with pride and love.
Birds chirped as they flew over the large cabin surrounded by trees. The branches were filled with green leaves, filtering the morning sunlight to the ground. Namjoon stood on the covered porch, holding a mug of honey green tea in his large hands. His long legs crossed at the ankles, his head leaned against the wooden beam.
He shivered, the spring chill breaking through the sweatpants and plain t-shirt he was wearing. Sipping his tea, Namjoon used his enhanced eyesight and hearing to listen and watch between the trees. It was a routine he did every morning, gathering information from the animals and plants in the area, making sure his domain was safely hidden from intruders. Every now and then a human would wander through, most of the time they were harmless, just exploring the wilderness.
Once in a while, though, an intruder with a dark purpose would stumble into his woods. Namjoon would do his best to guide the unwelcome guests out of the woods without incident, but he wasn’t afraid to use violence to protect his territory. It had taken a long time to gain the trust of the fauna and flora that lived in this forest, but he was now the unspoken guardian of this large wooded area.
“Sir Dragon,” a tiny, high-pitched voice spoke from behind a tree. Namjoon straightened, sitting the mug upon the railing. The corner of his lips twitched with amusement as a small, winged boy appeared shyly from around the corner. His dark hair was messy under a beanie, jeans and green shirt freshly pressed for the morning. Namjoon’s lips pulled into a smile, showcasing the deep dimples in his cheeks.
“Good morning, Sir Flax Treeblossom.” Namjoon sat down on the wooden steps as the young fairy hovered closer to him. He noticed how the boy bit his lip and fiddled with the small twig in his hand, indicating there was something on his mind. “It’s good to see you. How’s your mother?”
“She’s good,” Flax started with a shrug, distracted. Namjoon raised an eyebrow. The fairy cleared his throat and caught Namjoon’s eyes. “She sent me to give you a message.”
“Oh? And what is the message, little one?”
“The Magic Mother’s spirit is with the Great One now.” The boy sighed, eyes sad. Namjoon took a deep breath and nodded, lips pressed together, as he felt the loss inside of him as well. “Mom said you would want to know.”
“Thank you for the information, Flax Treeblossom. Join your family and friends in celebrating the Magic Mother’s protection. We shall mourn her loss, but also honor her guardianship.”
“Will you join us, Sir Dragon?”
“Ah, well…” Namjoon was caught off guard. He scratched the back of his neck, unable to look the fairy in the eyes. It was well known Namjoon was not a social creature. The boy looked up at him with wide, innocent eyes. “I will try to make an appearance.”
“Mom will be happy to hear that,” he grinned. Flax fluttered off the ground, gave a slight bow toward Namjoon, then disappeared back into the forest. The dragon watched from the steps of the porch until the fairy was gone, then stood and made his way back inside his cabin with his mug.
If the forest guardian witch had passed on, there would be another taking her place. Although Namjoon had never met the Magic Mother, he had heard many stories. She was kind and loyal, courageous and strong. He felt regret whispering in the back of his mind. He had made a point to never be around when the woman appeared near his cabin. She never forced him to reveal himself, though, which surprised him to this day.
His shoulders started to itch, the wings of his inner dragon wanting to come out. Namjoon walked across the cabin and went out the back, the trees just feet away from the door. Stripping off his clothes, he closed his eyes and transformed into a huge forest green creature.
I know he’s there, but he goes out of his way to stay hidden. It’s understandable how he is cautious, especially of a human, but it makes me wonder… is it part of his instincts, or are his experiences with humans negative? One day I will convince him I mean no harm.
You closed the journal, laying it in your lap as you took a deep breath of cool air. The fire in front of you crackled with energy. The stars above twinkled, mixing with the embers floating upward. Wrapped in a thick blanket, you sat on a log near your tent. Tata’s journal was all you had to go on, but you knew her stories were true. You felt the spark of power inside of you, although you had never actually seen it in action. You wondered if there was some magical teacher in the forest to help you explore your magic.
Maybe this old, elusive dragon will help you.
It was a sunset celebration. Most of the creatures of the forest made an appearance, from small creatures to large creatures, forest animals, and even the solitary dragon. Namjoon flew overhead, watching until most of the visitors had gone, then glided down into the clearing. He stayed in the darkness of the setting sun as he changed back into a human.
He always carried a pack attached to his dragon’s leg that carried extra clothes, as they were not included in the transformation. It changed size when he transformed, proportionate to how large his body was at the moment. Namjoon quickly changed into faded jeans and a dark sweater, ran a hand through his hair, and stepped into the shadowed clearing.
An altar had been set up at the base of the largest tree at the edge, the spot covered in flowers and leaves. Some candles were placed on each side of the altar, the flame flickering gently. The forest dwellers had placed small gifts in the middle. Some bouquets of flowers, carved wooden animals, a handful of glittering crystals, and a basket of berries were placed respectfully on the altar,
Namjoon slowly approached the altar as the diurnal creatures left and the nocturnal forest dwellers took their turn to pay their respects. A dryad and a nymph stared at him with wide eyes before turning away, embarrassed. Namjoon nodded politely to those he passed. He knew there were stories about him being passed around, but he never got the details.
He knelt before the candles and offerings, taking a deep breath. Raising a hand, he used the magic inside the forest and himself to manipulate the tree branches into a covering. Leaning forward, he blew a small breath toward the candles, allowing the flame to become brighter. They would last longer now.
Another creature knelt beside him. With a glance, Namjoon saw Hoseok, the hummingbird shifter who lead his group. Usually, the bird shifter was full of energy, always moving. This time, though, he was respectfully still as he murmured toward the altar. Reaching into his pocket, Hoseok pulled out a vial of sweet nectar. It was what kept the hummingbirds alive, which gave it significant meaning as an offer towards the magic mother’s spirit.
“I’m surprised, but happy to see you here, Namjoon.” Hoseok gave the dragon shifter a sad smile, then turned his eyes back to the altar. “You never met the Magic Mother?”
“No,” he sighed, standing. Hoseok did the same and stepped back as a family of porcupines shuffled by them. The shifters moved away from the altar toward the edge of the clearing, letting a group of squirrels, rabbits, and fireflies have their turn. “But she never forced me, which makes me regret waiting.”
“There will be another.” Hoseok watched as the alpha wolf shifter, Seokjin, appeared with his pack, waiting at the opposite edge of trees. All three nodded to each other politely. “Seokjin and Yoongi would like to gather as soon as possible.”
“It’s been a while since we’ve all gathered,” Namjoon stated quietly. It seemed like there was a never ending line of animals stopping at the altar, offering what was special to them, and saying a few words. “Yoongi is almost as reclusive as I am.”
“Well, he is a panther. Mysterious creatures, they are,” Hoseok replied with a smirk. Namjoon nodded in agreement.
“Let me know when and where.”
“I’ll send Jungkook when we have that information.”
“Ah, the new King of Bees. How is he settling into his role?”
“You and I both know Queen Minji rules that hive. He’s just the top devotee.”
“But they are truly in love?”
“Yes, and it’s very obvious when they are together.”
