I feel like the IPC is hella rep of the whole mega corp and colonialism-y vibe. Like we had them as big evil capitalist takeover in Aurum alley but I think the intro to Topaz in belobog was my first moment of “Huh, that’s-” bc I feel it in my bones that after she gave us her backstory that her birth name was not a shiny jewel

oh absolutely the IPC is a representation of neocolonialism and oppressive capitalist structures. topaz's storyline felt iffy to me because her planet was a clear example of neoimperialism (the IPC has basically bought out the entire planet by exploiting their previously dire situation), but she wasn't textually critical about it, and even seemed to wholeheartedly support it. I was wary of this at the time but reserved judgment as there are actual postcolonial people out there who do talk like this about western influence (like my own family lol). it was quite nice to see aventurine's storyline subsequently deliver a very incisive narrative against the IPC/colonialism/capitalism, where he is both a victim and an unwilling player in it but nonetheless perpetuating their violence for survival reasons (so ideologically a step away from topaz). now it looks like they're leaning even harder into that angle with boothill who actively rejects the IPC. it's shockingly political writing from a gacha game imo lol and I hope they give us an interesting narrative with bootio
