AA ROYAL FAMILY REVIEW! I am in LOVE with Vex as a character, she's a rebel! I'm totally gonna use her in my series at some point! Well, of course the royal heirs have anxiety...look at their parents, they're all stanky dumpster fires lol. Actually I'm surprised most of their kids aren't in worse shape than they are! A lot of resilience on display here.

(Tep/Goryx turned out the worst by far, imo...which is ironic because his dad is probably the least fucked up Great Ruler. Dude just had a screw loose, I guess...)

❅ - Favorite time of the year? ✺ - Something your muse finds pretty

Summer is undoubtedly Vex’s favourite time of the year, she enjoys the opportunity to enjoy the feeling of the sun on her skin, the warm air, and the perfect nights. Despite being a Keeper, she’s pretty used to the bright days, and more than comfortable in a summer evening. La Noscea’s near-eternal summertime has really had her spoilt for climate. If she’s ever somewhere that’s too cold, you’ll be sure to hear about it - and know exactly why she dislikes it - in short order, as constant complaining about the weather just so happens to be a trait of hers.

Vex would describe herself as a patrician of the arts and a lover of beauty in all things, from the items she owns and wears, to the people she acquaints herself with. In regard to the objects and items, fine craft; intricate patterns; gleaming metal; gemstones of all kinds and cuts. In regard to the people, their smile, honest and emotive; their eyes, vibrant and full of life; their markings, the art they choose to display upon, or have received upon, their body, whether paint, ink, or natural; their figure, strong and comfortable, secure in their own beauty. In regard to the world, the white stone of Vylbrand’s cliffs; the billowing rugs and trappings of Hannish Bazaars; the colourful teeming jungles of Mamook, out of which ancient spires and ziggurats peek; the evening light, the manner in which the sun drowns in the horizon at the end of yet another beautiful day.

What does Champ think of his mom? As in, how she acts? Also, has Champ ever met Vex? Does he even know she exists/how she is?

Good question! I think Champ loves his mom, as most kids do. He is her child, and I think despite his age, he will always kind of see Jewel from a child's perspective. Her flaws are not as pronounced to him, he assumes she knows best because she is his elder.

Yeah she might be a bit of a Karen, to put it lightly...but Champ still looks to her for guidance and love, and she provides those things the best way she knows how. He sees her doing her fussy Karen thing and assumes she must have good reasons for it, because in his mind she is older and wiser than him.

Tekeetian culture places heavy reverence upon elders. This was true even when Sovereign was little, as he always obeyed and respected his parents, even if he disagreed with them. (Mr. Ocean obeyed them less so--not because he didn't love or respect them, but because he is neurodivergent and genuinely struggles to follow directions...)

Champ has certainly met Vex...in fact, he's probably spent more time with her than any of his other kids. But this isn't exactly "quality time", it's more like Vex constantly gets herself into serious trouble and Queen Machine says, "JUST WAIT UNTIL YOUR FATHER HEARS ABOUT THIS!"

So Champ has to drag his ass into the nursery like every other day to scold this kid, hoping she will respect him enough to obey him.

Spoiler art: she doesn't. Because she is smarter than him and she knows it.

Champ is a busy guy, his babymommas know he doesn't have time for nursery business and try to do all the child-rearing themselves. But Vex is his most exceptional child, that entitles her to a little more attention, and the trouble she causes is so above-and-beyond what a normal child does that gets Queen Machine squawking for Dad and even Grandpa to come fix it, because she is totally overwhelmed with this shit.

Most cecaelian children get punished for roughhousing or sneaking desserts. Vex gets punished for blabbing confidential information about her government and starting diplomatic incidents.

One time she trespassed into hostile territory and was eaten by a sacred orca, forcing her father's troops to kill it and free her from its stomach. This deeply offended the enemy tribe, and Sovereign was forced to war with them before he was prepared, losing thousands of troops and hemorrhaging millions of GP in the process.

You know, just average kid shenanigans.

Clarification: I'm in the process of writing Vex's story for my AU (Should happen today or tomorrow, hopefully if I don't overprocrastinate lmao), and I just decided on porple because 1) It's a pretty color, fuck you, and 2) I sorta saw her as purple better then the other colors for female cecaelia To think I somehow mentally predicted lmao XD

That's so funny! Purple is associated with creativity, magic, and offbeat individuals. Given her rebellious personality, I decided that would be the best color for her.

DWP once again dealing supreme memes! These are awesome!

I imagine Vex is a hell of a lot smarter than every adult around her (the bar isn't very high, but still...), and she is so frustrated by her brainless, stifling environment and boring future that she is desperate to get away. She seeks a higher purpose in life, maybe to study magic at the World Athenaeum and solve the world's Big Problems(tm). She's gotta challenge that overclocked little super-brain of hers somehow!

She fully comprehends what her grandfather is doing on the world stage, she knows it's fucked up, and she wants no part of it. Meanwhile all the grown women in the nursery know is lay egg, protect hatchling, eat hot chip and lie. They have nothing interesting to discuss because they don't know anything, Sovereign keeps them sheltered and ignorant on purpose. I think Vex really connects with Lobster Red, and I imagine they will do some scheming together!

But as clever as she is, Vex is also inexperienced with the outside world, so I think she will go overboard when she gets there. She will party too much, make many mistakes, and probably get hurt. She has many adventures ahead of her.

Here's a sketch of the Aquarian Alliance's royal family.

Sovereign: The big man himself...the very big man.

Champ: Son of Sovereign and Jewel. Deemed Sovereign's greatest son and chosen to be his heir. Acts confident in public but is really a big anxious mess when no one's looking.

Jewel: One of Sovereign's wives that he kidnapped from an enemy tribe and forced to marry him. Jewel has serious stockholm syndrome about it and fawns over Sovereign like he's the best thing that ever happened to her. Because of her loyalty and agreeableness, she is his favorite wife and he has given her authority over all his other wives in his harem.

Queen Machine: Another one of Sovereign's wives, and Mr. Kraken's mother. He kidnapped her specifically because she was a legendary figure who had a reputation for birthing at least 2 daughters per egg clutch, which is highly unusual but desirable for cecaelia. She was angry when Sovereign kidnapped her, so she poisoned herself to sabotage her eggs and ended up giving birth to a giant. Sovereign banished her "defective" giant child, and the event left her so devastated that she resigned herself to her fate as Sovereign's wife, abandoning all hope of escape or retribution. She fully invests herself in caring for her daughters in the nursery and warns them to never disobey Daddy, fearing the consequences they will face.

Lobster Red: Yet another wife of Sovereign, but she used to be the wife of Mr. Roach until Sovereign conquered her village, killed her husband, and stole her away. Her stunning beauty and royal status is what drew Sovereign to her, and though she currently hates him, Sovereign is used to his wives feeling that way at first. But he tells her that she is one of the luckiest women on Gaia, and in time she will realize there is no better life for her than being married to him. He believes she will adjust her attitude in time like the rest of his harem, but he doesn't realize just how strong-willed Lobster Red is. She plots his demise every single day.

Vex: Daughter of Champ and Queen Machine. Yes, Sovereign forced his son to breed with his step-mom because his eugenics program determined they would produce "superior" offspring...😬 Maybe there was something to the idea, because Vex is unusually gifted for a child her age. She is a magical prodigy and crafty to boot, but she is also very rebellious. She can't stand the idea of being trapped in the nursery forever and becoming another brood mother, so she escapes constantly and tries to flee to Terria. Her family's goons always catch her, but she is only getting craftier and more powerful with age. It's only a matter of time before she succeeds. The question is, can she succeed before her grandfather marries her off to one of his vassals?

‽ - Something your muse has problems understanding

Despite living in Limsa Lominsa proper for at least half her life, there’s a great deal about the other cultures that live on Hydaelyn that she finds quite baffling. This is usually down to a rigidly tribal Keeper upbringing, and the disparity between Miqo’te culture and theirs.  A good example is Xaela. The idea that a tribe or clan characterises themselves around one particular concept, at least to her (quite) shallow understanding, completely baffles her, Keepers aren’t like to do the same, and from what she’s been told many of the Xaela tribes do have extreme ideals they position themselves around. The one that probably gets her confused most are the Bolir, or perhaps the Uyagir - the Bolir’s particular corner going without saying, and the Uyagir’s view of themselves having to pay the price of their ancestor’s actions seems, to her, inane.  Perhaps the most characterising example centers around (most forms of) marriage and monogamy, both seemingly widespread amongst the other cultures on the Crystal, and completely alien to a traditionalist Keeper. There’s also an element of this that’s seeped into how she views the relationship of infidelity or jealousy in regard to sexual activity or what one should even be jealous about such in the first place, as this would serve a more functional role in her clan’s society rather than romantic. This can, ultimately, cause her to appear, and be, rather callous towards those experiencing pain in these areas, as she really does have a difficult time wrapping her head around it. She also tends to be a lot more carefree around such topics, which can be difficult for others to deal with if from more conservative cultures, such as perhaps Ishgard.  [ Thanks for the ask! Vex is a wonderfully confident, strong woman whose pride is well deserved - she built what she has today from nothing - and she has no end of enthusiasm and positivity for the future despite the state of the world as of the present day. Though she’s also deeply flawed, most of all because of her self-worship, and much of her ‘self’ is centered around how great she believes herself to be.

That body’s t’die fer, those curves’re better’n Coerthan ‘ills, ‘swhat they are. Ah, an’ ‘er face, well... I like th’mischievous look... ‘Sreal good.” 

What annoys them most : “She’s more ‘ips’n two o’ me. May’aps e’en three. Now that’s just real unfair, wouldn’t ye say?” 

What they like the most : “I bet ye thought I’d say ‘ips... Well... I were goin’ t’, but I ain’t. I think it’s ‘er ears, they’re real unusual, an’ that alone’s just... Well, not only is it cute as all ‘ells, it’s what I’d say’s a mark o’ somethin’ real special.”
