oh I wonder if dante knew about imuri. it wasn't really relevant, ig. he seemed to like that priest had someone to be with and didn't really think about her more than that. hehe. verge and priest are paralled in this arc, but dante and the boy are the two catholic priests who are in love with people on the other side. and dante's gay and the boy is horny...really not the picture of a perfect catholic priest the church has in mind huh. or I guess if they can ~overcome temptation~ they are...ugh. but they're people with the right to themselves, and the series knows that and shows it in like a very kind way I think

as for the quote, it's just an intro phrase. what comes next for priest priest is somewhere he's never gone before, certainly. both physically and emotionally

bloody gun in a pile of candy. ain't that just the way. dante's jaw is a bit horrifying, but for shooting himself in the head he actually came out fairly unscathed besides from being. dead. verge pulling dante's body to the mouth to get to gehenna like that is so sad bc verge isn't too short but he still isn't the size of a grown man and he's struggling. and CRYING....yeah verge I think you might still be in love with him!!

the quote is a part of a phrase that doesn't mean a lot on its own, but I believe the entire quote essentially means 'the only things that exist in hell are things that can survive it' it's a dark and torturous way to state it, so tonally I think it matches really well

this part of the story is also the most direct reference to dante's inferno. dante and virgil, going into hell, dante as a mortal man and virgil as his guide and friend. virgil was a roman poet who I THINK was trapped in purgatory bc he was a pagan who lived before jesus. am I going to have to sparknotes dante's inferno? I really don't want to....I have negative interest in Italian poetry I'm going to be so real. just the aesthetics and some references would be great for me😭
