The fact that babies born to mages in the Circle are raised in a Chantry orphanage until they’re “old enough” to be taken to a Circle is crazy for many reasons, not the least of which being 1) they literally are not orphans and 2) apostates are brought to the circle as young as 6. I assume these kids are just sent as soon as their magic manifests and it’s like. Isn’t that more cruel than Just letting them stay with their parents???

I really have come to love Rhys as a character, more so than any of the other characters in all 3 of the DA novels I’ve read. He feels more well-rounded and thought out than literally any other character, including Loghain. He’s a good boy (boy; he’s almost 40) who behaves relatively well, but he also strongly sympathizes with mage freedom. He wants to work within the lines but he has a fatal flaw of Can’t Shut Up Disease which gets him into trouble when he can’t stop himself from mouthing off. And he cares about his fellow mages so much! He’s practical about interacting with the templars and is always thinking 3 steps ahead of them but god damn if he can’t get himself to stop talking back. And he knows it and squirms every time he does it.

And he LOVES Cole. He loves Cole so deeply and so strongly, he wants to protect him and make sure he’s safe. He really takes to Cole as a son and is worried for him and about how to help him more than he’s ever angry or confused. It’s sooooo sweet
