The Dark Lord's birthday is not on october 2nd

so I was seeing a couple people also celebrating dark's birthday today. which makes sense, since that's the youtube upload date for ava3, and the date used in the flashback of ava uh.. 6 is it?

but this gave me pause because i did a tiny bit of research earlier on the general release timeline of ava, and i'd read on the wiki that ava3 was released on a completely different date: october 4, 2010, being first uploaded on atom.com (the site of the company that helped produce ava 2 and 3, now bought by paramount/comedy central)

now that is a drastically different date... but this is completely unsourced. do we know the actual date that ava3 was uploaded?

so i went on a web JOURNEY that i'd like to share with you all :D

tldr it's not oct 2 or oct 4. it's oct 11 2010

so the first thing i decided to check was who added that date to the wiki in the first place, and when. turns out it was an anonymous editor in 2016, not even a wiki account created... so, that's not going to get me anywhere. they didn't add a reference or any information other than just the date.

(ps you should read that 2016 version of the wiki page it's a fun janky mess lol /affectionate)

i scoured through different atom.com pages that were archived on wayback machine and found a few different tidbits:

the atom.com main page footer was updated with a link to ava3 on september 10, 2010 exactly. that seems pretty early!

the earliest capture of ava3 itself was on october 16, 2010, and the video is listed as being uploaded on october 11. interestingly, the video here was uploaded by "JO3Y", not Alan Becker... but later captures do show it as being uploaded by alan. i have no idea what is going on there

this isn't really relevant to the question at hand but you can watch ava2 on the website and it's very clearly flash-controlled, with a cool custom-made video control bar meant to look like Windows??? that's so cool????

this is also not relevant but the original description of ava2 seems to imply that this "chosen one" was originally meant to be the same stick figure as "victim". which is clearly not canon anymore but like. woag.

JO3Y's user page as of october 14, 2010 lists ava3 as being uploaded either... 6 or 7 days ago. (for some reason there are 2 uploads?? both are the same link.) that would put ava3's release on either october 7 or october 8, 2010.

guys there was an animator vs animation actual flash game. did anyone know about this wtf. the wayback machine link is busted but i managed to find a working version here and i am going to play it RIGHT as soon as i finish writing this

none of this was ultimately very helpful, though. there's multiple different dates here, none of which correspond to the elusive october 4th, and it could've even been as early as september. there's not many captures to look at, not many saved atom pages in niche places... what to even look at now?

right well. there's unfortunately no captures of this twitter account around the time ava3 could've released, and you can't scroll to see older tweets (those pages weren't archived), so no luck here. the account itself has also since been either deleted or renamed. a link to one of the tweets would surely also be defunct, right? but let's try it...

and oh my god. OH MY GOD. the account is STILL UP it's just under a different username oh my god. CAN WE FIND THE ORIGINAL AVA3 ANNOUNCEMENT TWEET.

lo and behold, one date-filtered twitter search later, here it is:

This is...

Perplexing to me.

Because March 15 isn't when AvA2 was first 'released' - That's when it was posted on Newgrounds, which was the second place it was posted.

AvA2 was originally posted on Atom.com MONTHS early, on November 4, 2006.

So why was this date chosen? It doesn't feel like a coincidence or random.

Does this imply that Chosen's own creation date has been retconed to the date AvA2 originally released on Newgrounds?

I first interpreted this as Alan was still making Victim AFTER Chosen already existed and was trapped in Avast's chest, but that doesn't fit with Alan's "I guess I was getting a bit bored with victim" remark from the Season 1 AvG Reacts video - a remark that had ALWAYS felt a little bit too on-the-nose to just be a sarcastic remark or random comment made in the moment.

And, very clearly, it wasn't. That was a legitimate lore hint, a sneaky bit of foreshadowing.

[That begs the question: Was Alan aware that it was the SAME Victim every time he made him? And he intentionally chose NOT to name his new stick figure Victim because he was, quote, "bored of him"?

Or did he think it was a new stick figure every single time, and was simply bored because they had long since stopped offering him a challenge or any entertainment?]

It would make much more sense that Alan gave up/moved on from making "Victims" after Victim escaped. It had been 10 months (from his perspective, potentially less for Victim's) and Victim's bizarre escape could have just been the trigger for Alan to decide to "play around with" other power levels of stick figures.

Hence, leading to Chosen being created on the same day Victim escaped.

And thus making Chosen's new canon 'birth date' March 15 2007.

Small benefit for Chosen, that's a few less months he was enslaved for! It's still 4 years 6 months and 18 days, but hey! Better than 4 years 10 months and 28 days!

[That's if Dark's creation date isn't also changed in the future.]

Okay so I did some digging.

AvA2 was first released on Atom.com on November 4 2006. It was then released on Newgrounds on March 15 2007, and finally on YouTube on May 14 2007.

It’s most likely that in the HD description, Alan just got the true date wrong. All 3 of the “original trilogy” had scattered posting dates for when they were uploaded to various sites. It’s not out of the question that he just forgot or got it mixed with another date. This is what makes basing Vic’s Chosen’s and Dark’s ages on their earliest release dates kinda confusing, especially with how old these other sites are.

The exception to this is Dark, who’s creation date has been retconned to October 2 2011 in “The Flashback”, as opposed to AvA3s earliest posting date of October 11 2010 on Atom.com.

Victim’s creation date, unless it’s also retconned with the release of future information, is June 3 2006, which is when AvA1 was first uploaded to Newgrounds.

(This retconning is imo pretty unlikely, since the next earliest date would be May 14 2007, the YouTube upload date, which would mess up Chosen’s creation date. Things sit pretty well, storytelling wise, with the current dates.)

(It’s likely Alan chose AvA3s YouTube upload date for Dark because his YouTube channel was more well known than his Atom.com account. And, also, because in AvA4 In Universe Alan remarks in the intro chat that it had been 3 years since the events of AvA3, and AvA4 was released on October 2 2014.)

(Alan has otherwise shown little interest in anything revolving around the stick’s creation dates in lore. They aren’t even really acknowledged. Which is a little sad, I feel like the CG surprising Orange with a birthday cake would be a cute Actual Short.)

Question for Chosen's birthday!

Please, someone tell me, why do people say his birthday is on the 4th of November? Is that actually true?

Because in the video 'Animator vs Animation 2 (HD)' the description says the video was originally released on the 8th.

So again please someone tell me why so many say his birthday is the 4th. It's very confusing!

oh yeah, i've been meaning to share this screenshot, and i suppose post-ava11 is as good a time as any.

this is the original description of ava2 as it was on atom.com - and seems to imply that the chosen one was at first meant to be the same stick figure as victim. that's not the canon anymore, of course, but i still think it's interesting!

Chosen's official birthday is today because his video first came out on atom.com on November 4, 2006. But, interestingly, there are two more places where the video was officially uploaded, all on different dates: Newgrounds on March 15, 2007 and YouTube on May 14, 2007.

So three different birthdays? Yeah, you can think it as such, but it's whatever your preference may be.

I am so confused is TCO's birthday on May or today????

Pete Holmes-Tip of the Hat 5/15

The Comedy Bureau "Tips Its Hat" this week to PETE HOLMES.

Forget, only for a moment, about Pete Holmes killing it on Conan or John Oliver's NY Stand Up Show on Comedy Central.  If you live in Portland or were so lucky to go there last month and got to catch him at the Bridgetown Comedy Festival just slaying audiences left and right like it was just another day at work, again, for a moment, forget all of that.

Comedian Pete Holmes is so funny that he can kill at breakfast.  Now, to some of you, that might not be all that impressive, but a breakfast amongst comedians and myself can be a pretty tough crowd.  Actually, one of the things I hate most is people trying to run bits or improv off each other after a show when I'm just trying to enjoy some late night breakfast.  I don't need to hear, "What are you Willy Loman over here? Enjoying your last cup before finding you need to buy a new fridge?"

Yet, Holmes has gotten to a point where being funny isn't a matter of switching it on or off.  The point is: he is just funny all the time.  Whatever the situation, Holmes brings the laughs.  I've seen him drop in on late shows where people are tired and want to go home, I've seen him follow complete wrecks, and I've even seen Pete perform in someone's living room beneath a broken light and have the audience rolling in laughter.

Combining an uncanny likeability as soon as he takes the stage, incredibly clever writing, and a pure fun delivery, Holmes has more than earned praise from his contemporaries such as Kyle Kinane, in a recent interview with the Comedy Bureau, calling Pete his own "anti-depressant".  Much of Holmes' comedic genius is due to discipline in writing.  Every idea, premise, etc. that he has, he writes down, no matter where he is.  If he riffs on stage, you'll be sure to find Holmes writing down notes right after the show about what worked.

Uh, guys... I don't mean to stop the preparations, but Chosen's birthday isn't actually on March 15. Going further, Animator vs. Animation II was actually released three times. We know one was on YouTube (May 14, 2007), and the second was on Newgrounds (March 15, 2007), so what was the third website? It's atom.com.

According to The Story of Animator vs. Animation - 10 Year Anniversary (skip to 4:44), that video was released there on November 4, 2006, which was half a year later and a day since Victim's debut. So if we take the three times the video has been released on different websites and go with the overall first date of when it was officially released to the Internet, Chosen's birthday would be November 4.

THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT TO THE AVA FANDOM/COMMUNITY

It has come to mine and @tulipsempai attention that Vic and Chosen do not share the same birthday. As we have discovered Alan’s new ground account which has the official dates.
