Research on atomic nuclei and radioactivity -
Tumblr media
The atomic nucleus serves as the very core of each atom, comprising positively charged protons and electrically neutral neutrons. The atomic number, which is determined by the number of protons, ultimately defines the element in question. It is when the nucleus becomes unstable that we witness the phenomenon of radioactive decay. Through this process, unstable nuclei emit ionising radiation—manifesting as alpha, beta, or gamma particles—each possessing unique characteristics in terms of their ionising capabilities and penetrating power.
Radioactive decay leads to a transformation in the nucleus, resulting in the conversion of one element into another, a process known as nuclear transmutation. The rate of this decay is governed by a probabilistic rule, encapsulated in the concept of the half-life, which quantifies the time required for half of a given sample of radioactive material to undergo decay. Such a process is inherently statistical, with each individual nucleus exhibiting random behaviour, though large quantities of atoms permit predictions regarding the overall decay rate.
Detection of this radiation is accomplished through various means: for instance, the use of cloud chambers, which render visible the paths of charged particles; photographic plates, which darken upon exposure to radiation; or ionisation chambers, which detect the ionisation of air molecules caused by incoming radiation. The extent of radiation protection required varies based on the type of radiation: alpha particles, for example, can be stopped by a mere sheet of paper, while beta particles necessitate materials such as aluminium for shielding. Gamma rays, with their high penetration power, require more substantial shielding, often involving dense materials such as lead or thick concrete.

Radioactivity, though a natural phenomenon, also holds immense practical utility across various domains. In medicine, it aids in diagnostic imaging and targeted treatments, while in archaeology, it provides techniques such as carbon dating to determine the age of ancient artefacts. Furthermore, it is harnessed in the generation of energy through controlled nuclear fission. However, the inherent dangers posed by ionising radiation demand a rigorous understanding of radiological protection and safety, ensuring that human exposure is minimised.

Wordplay Wednesday: Tetrahedral
Tumblr media
Quartz has a tetrahedral structure. In fact, it has a perfect three-dimensional framework. That is why it is called a framework or tectosilicate like feldspar.
Tumblr media
Here's a close-up of how these tetrahedra would interconnect. Each oxygen is shared between two tetrahedra.
Tumblr media
Altogether, it would make this shape. And we see this shape with the naked eye.

Ophanim: Symbolic Representation of Power and Glory Explored Through Modern Science and Technology
Preface Ophanim are described as majestic beings that support and accompany the throne of God in the book of Ezekiel, characterized as wheels within wheels rotating in all directions. They are a symbolic representation of God’s power and authority. Biblically they’re a symbolic representation of God’s power and glory. They are not to be taken literally, despite how easy it is in modern society…

Hello! I just wanted to say that your new peoject Astronought is such an awesome and well-made game! Atom is just so so adorable omg, they are such a cutie patootie
Anyway here is my question! So, I’m guessing the reason the ship got damaged in its rear was because of Atom, right? But, like… can I ask how they managed to do that? Did they turn into a massive ball and shoot themselves down in an incomprehensible speed like a meteor or something?

I'm so sorry but that is literally what happened,,,

How small changes in atoms improve hydrogen production
Researchers at Umeå University have identified the inner workings of a highly efficient and stable catalyst for hydrogen production, a process central to many sustainable energy initiatives. In a recently published study in the journal Communications Materials, researchers have found a way to improve catalysts for water electrolysis, which splits water into hydrogen and oxygen to generate clean fuel. The study tackles a long-standing mystery: how can catalysts made of nickel, iron and molybdenum maintain their exceptional activity and continue to efficiently split water, even after a significant portion of their molybdenum is lost during operation.

The fact that this page made me nearly tear up speaks of the level of character writing of Berserk
Farnese went from sadistically enjoying making people under herself suffer to feel a shred of power in her life, to panicking and rushing to protect the most vulnerable person that could be entrusted in her care, not for herself but because Casca needs to be cared for. And you get to see the evolution, what makes her question herself and the root of her beliefs, the guilt and sense of worthlessness that she carries with her and desperately wants to overcome.
What a wonderful character :)

psst... the only reason atom eve is not stronger than invincible is bc of patriarchal storytelling... the man at the forefront of the narrative can not be weaker than his counterparts, let alone his female ones...
