He lived through an age that was miserable and troubled. The country into which he was born was sliding slowly, ineluctably, into the ranks of the less developed countries; often haunted by misery, the men of his generation dived out their lonely, bitter lives. Feelings such as love, tenderness and human fellowship had, for the most part, disappeared; the relationships between his contemporaries were at best indifferent and more often cruel.

“Sometimes he cycles cross-country, pedalling as hard as he can, filling his lungs with a taste of the infinite. He does not know it yet, but the infinity of childhood is a brief one. The countryside flashes past.”

“The simplest desire is to reach out and touch a loving body, to be held in loving arms. Tenderness is a deeper instinct than seduction, which is why it is so difficult to give up hope.”

Could Sirenians ever integrate back into human society? And would they?
I mean sure I don't see why they wouldn't be able to if the will was there (bearing in mind they are not a monolith) buuuut there's no human society to integrate back into. Even if humanity wasn't 99.99% extinct as fuck, before its demise there was nothing that could be described as human society, not even on Earth. there were only corporate bodies and scattered colonies, most of which had had nothing to do with one another for hundreds of years. Ceti, the planet which was used as Atom corporation's home base, was privately owned by the company, and that was the general trend of basically everything before the Siren mission. Things like nations, or planet-nations even (once the population spread over more than Earth), had not existed for a long time.

Every now and again Bayverse fans show up and remind me why the TF community had to create a whole new tag just to avoid them💀💀

GOD
DAMN IT
I wrote an entire-ass essay on how the meme of Kris enjoying moss is yet another example of us as players projecting characteristics onto them in an effort to try and give them a personality outside of our control but in actuality reinforcing the chokehold we have upon how they act and are perceived. It was gonna be so GOOD and INTERESTING and THOUGHT-PROVOKING and the ENTIRE thing is utterly invalidated by a single dialogue box from Noelle.
...screw it, I might just post it anyway

Once a metaphysical mutation has arisen, it tends to move inexorably towards its logical conclusion. Heedlessly, it sweeps away economic and political systems, ethical considerations and social structures. No human agency can halt its progress—nothing, but another metaphysical mutation.

“Later, reading Nietzsche provoked only a brief irritation, and Kant served only to confirm what he already knew, that perfect morality is unique and universal. Nothing is added to it and nothing changes over the course of time. It is not dependent on history, economics, sociology or culture; it is not dependent on anything. Not determined, it determines; not conditioned it conditions. It is, in other words, absolute.”

The Builders Of A Post- Modern Babel
O the world is mired in miasmal mists!
Where tempation lurks, no-one can resist.
Calculations and algorithms now
Prevail as notions of community
Are forced down the drain. Why did we allow
This to happen over time? Foolishly,
Many prize selfishness and blood money's
Implacable interests. O today's builders
Of Babel are narrow in the extreme!
They tell us there is no room for losers,
Only the accumulation of wealth
On the vast construction site of hell

I probably need to stop putting existential vent comics next to my class notes but on the bright side I've learned that if I draw myself with a ponytail the silhouette looks like a fish :D
