- things escalate when Lady Catherine loses it when she realises what the lay of the land is, i.e. that Darcy loves Elizabeth and/or that both her nephews are rival suitors.

- “are the shades of Pemberley to be thus polluted” arrives earlier than in canon

Every Expectation of Pleasure (https://archiveofourown.org/works/58265032/chapters/148376566) by @charminglygrouped is a brilliant, multi chapter fic, taking place almost entirely in the Darcys' bedroom (like, there's a bit of the first chapter that's elsewhere, but otherwise sex is imminent, ongoing or recently finished at all times. Every chapter has at least one sex scene. It's insanely well researched, historically speaking, brilliantly in-character, has a story arc while being mostly sex, and is far and away the best smut I have ever read, in any fandom or in published fiction.

Inappropriate Use of a Cravat (https://archiveofourown.org/works/62144209) by @taradactyls is among the author's early attempts at smut, and you CAN see that in places, but it's very hot, very heartfelt, as in-character as Elizabeth and Darcy sneaking out of a ball they were hosting to bone in the library possibly could be, and, y'know, Elizabeth ties Darcy's cravat around his dick.

Till the Storm Was Blown Over (https://archiveofourown.org/works/59224105) also by @charminglygrouped is also very good smut, but doesn't really make sense without reading A Promise So Wholly Unreasonable (https://archiveofourown.org/works/57729295/chapters/146919250) first, and that doesn't contain any sex scenes. It is VERY good, though, I recommend it heartily.

There's also Scenes of Dissipation (https://archiveofourown.org/works/58818748/chapters/149898787) which is ALSO by @charminglygrouped, which is very very good but since it's sexual role-play and they aren't really being themselves most of the time it may not be what you're looking for here. It does have a companion piece with them as themselves, but those chapters are rather shorter.

I haven't encountered MUCH that's good and in-character, but it does definitely exist. Enjoy!

Outing myself here on main, but the absolute BANE of my existence is the fact that I cannot find proper Pride and Prejudice smut.

Oh! Thanks for the ask! I don't know why I perceived your fic rec game as author-centric, but as I did, this was a nice surprise! Before I go harass eveyone I vaguely know with my own Qs, let me get into yours real quick!

I'm a pretty boring reader as far as pairings go, so this is mainly Darcy/Elizabeth. To make it worse, I also mainly consume smut, so I had to dig deep to make this in any way interesting or diverse lmao

2 A fic that made me laugh

I'm pretty sure you know I ADORED your A Most Shocking Thing. It's a perennial reread because it never fails to make me smile.

4 A fic that's really hot

You've already mentioned @charminglygrouped , so I'll go for my other fave, A Wanton Woman by Ellen. It's the only fic I know of hers that's still online available without having to access the wayback machine. It blew my mind when I first read it because it beautifully managed to bridge the gap between staying true to character, the time period, and also fulfilling the brief, pórn.

8. A fic that deserves more love

I'm just such a slut for poly fics, and since Hakima already recced my absolute fave Darcy/Elizabeth/Col. Fitzwilliam, I'm going to plug my second fave, The Very Picture of Domestic Bliss by SarRansom.

Also—Scenes of Dissipation. Like, come on.

I find this a particularly difficult question because—due to demand avoidance perhaps—I can never quite get myself to agree with the kudos to quality (imo) ratio.

This goes two ways. The fic might have an amazing amount of kudos, but since another fic (I find inferior) has more kudos, I believe that fic does not in fact have enough kudos.

Or:

The fic may be amazing, and I might have enjoyed myself immensely, but if it happens to have more kudos than another fic i (in that moment) prefer, I get weird about it.

It is—i am—stupid.

Which is a roundabout way of saying: I don't think I have any!
