-I'm relatively new to bsd and the amount of fics in this fandom is IMMENSE, so there's still a lot I need (and want) to tackle. this list refers to what I've read so far

BAD DECISIONS by gluetrap Literally canon episodes except there's sex. If you want something that feels extremely close to canon adventures but with the addendum of skk exploring their relationship this is IT

Tenfold by @dgalerab Maaaybe my fav bsd fic to this day. It just fucked me up really good and made me feel things I'd pay to experience again. The fic is part of a series but can be read as standalone. I do recommend reading the whole series (even if you're not convinced at first) because it sets up concepts and situations that hit harder in Tenfold if you know about them first, but if you're not up to it it's not necessary. DO READ THE TAGS ON THIS ONE they're not fucking around. I'm serious.

keep you alive, set you on fire by @orbitalflyby Case fic where Dazai and Chuuya are on opposite sides, and Dazai is in a dress. Nsfw. It has slow dancing, flirting, much sexual tension!! Definitely a fic I'd love to draw for if god assists me

Everything or Nothing by @cataclysmicevie If you've been following me for a while you know about this one lol. College au, Really good humour but deals with heavy topics as well. College aus are not the first thing I look for in bsd but I could Not put this down once I started

Head Full of Lies by AbsoluteNegation This one deals with heavy topics, so heads up. Aside from that, it has gorgeous writing and exploration of complicated feelings and situations. It also singlehandedly opened my mind about Dazai wearing Chuuya's collar and I haven't been the same since then

Bottom of The Deep Blue Sea by @arkastadt Almost 12k of Dazai getting wrecked. That's it that's the fic If you like bottomzai you HAVE to check this one out (and I also recommend checking this author's other works, tho I'm sure I'm the last one to the party hdfhf)

Hi! So, I might not be the best person to ask this to, only because...well...I don't read a lot of skk fics...

I KNOW, I know. I'm obsessed with those two but most of the content I consume of them comes from fan arts now. That being said, I have read a handful of fics but they're one of the most popular ones out there like:

- I probably read this sometime in 2019. It's one of the first fics I remember reading for the pair and it definitely sucked me further into the skk rabbit hole. I remember being absolutely obsessed with it and I didn't want it to end, which is why I never read the last chapter of the series because if I don't see a "the end," the story can never come to an end lol

- According to my ao3 history, I read this in 2021. There's some scenes that randomly resurface in my mind even now!

Not Safe for Work by Insomnia_Productions

- I read this in 2019 and I found the Chuuya/Agency interactions and his banter with Dazai really entertaining. When I tell you guys my mind was blown when I went back to skim it and found the author's name extremely familiar and realized that they've read/commented on my fic!!

Basically, if they were on the top of the ao3 rankings pre-2023, I've probably read them. There's a reason why they're so popular though, they're really good and worth the re-read!

- I read this in 2022 when I was in dire need for a jealous Dazai fic. It's a short read and I love the skk banter in this one. Even when I went back to skim it, I found their bickering thoroughly enjoyable.

If there's something I learned from this ask is that I really need to expand my skk reading list and discover more authors/works...

nakahara chuuya and akutagawa ryuunosuke (platonic)

Truly, taking care of a moody, upset, and beyond battered (from all aspects) teenager who's seen too much is not an easy task for Chuuya, nor did he sign up for it when he joined the Port Mafia years ago, especially when he is just 19 and also struggling to heal from and adapt to suddenly being left behind without warning. It’s just not really suitable given his circumstances, but the ginger has decided, with one look at Akutagawa’s face the day after Dazai left, that someone has to look out for the boy. His sister, Gin, is a lot less affected by Dazai’s betrayal and is getting by as a Black Lizard Commander, so Chuuya decides to turn his attention towards her brother, who is now placed under his care as his mentee. And when Chuuya has decided on something, he will carry on through with it.

If only Akutagawa made it easy for him.

it does have soukoku, but dazai is only mentioned by chuuya. i really loved this fic and i really wish i could find more fics that focused on chuuya and akutagawa’s relationship after dazai left.

What fics do you like/read/recommend?

Difficult question, cause recommendations I can give but only very limited.

What I like? Slow Burn, Angst, Fluff, damn it I also read Smut sometimes, AUs (I mention something about that later). Basically: I want to suffer, I want to cry, but give me a happy ending. I LOVE good interpreted characters and I LOOOVE well-written relations. What I mean by that is, basically, if a sibling relationship is weirdly written, I tend to just.. not read the story at all. Does that make sense? Whatever.

While I read a lot, I rarely save what I read and more often than not I kind of.. lose half of the fics I read? There’s one I am currently obsessed with, which I found via @worstloki:

doubt truth to be a liar. absolutely amazing tbh. it’s about a younger Loki suddenly appearing in the Avengers Tower, without any memories about what happened (post Ragnarok), it’s got trans Peter & cultural differences between Asgard and Midgard I find quite interesting. Cause while I do know that comic Loki mentioned that the concept of gender and sexuality do not exist in Asgard the way they do on Midgard (I think that is what he said), I found the differences portrayed in that story very believable and also super interesting, cause I didn’t think of that? Especially interesting when you know a bit about the Viking age and its culture, which MCU Asgard clearly was set to resemble.

So, next I need to put a little disclaimer about myself: I normally do not like Reader fics, because more often than not they’re super ooc and I just find this whole.. “y/n” thing kind of offputting and it just makes me uninterested very often. However I have a friend who do likes these kind of stories. And she lets me know. And she needs someone to talk about these stories, so there’s that. And I read a handfull of them and tbh only those I actually find 1. well-written, 2. well characterised & 3. no darn use of “y/n”, cause no I never imagine myself there, I create characters in my head for each story.

A Job Million PRs Would Die For by @saiansha. Jesus fucking christ the amount of times I re-read this story. Honestly, it is, I think, the first Reader fanfic I read in my entire life, was super weary at first cause. idk. I know some people on this website (and AO3, let’s be real) that just post very weird stuff. This one has an interpretation of Loki that I can 100% believe and it is one I support. That was one of my main reasons to continue reading, but it’s also the general writing style that I like and that there’s a Reader character, who is not a helpless damsel in distress. Ultimate proof of that was the most recent chapter. (dear author knows my thoughts, I dared to dm cause I was just. very enthuasiastic about this story)

Broken Crown by @michelleleahhh​. Second one I started reading at one point cause my friend kept asking me to read it. a kind-of AU? It’s set in Asgard. That’s what you need to know. Again, a story that had me from the beginning, once I started. For the writing style and for the characterisation. The story really had me guessing sometimes, cause,, well-written! and really good dialogue!! damn you Freya!! and a decent Reader character that doesn’t have me ripping out my own intestines. (also very enthusiastic about this story, yes this phrasing as a meaning)

Foruneyti by Evaldrynn or @foruneyti (I tagged the blog for the story here, too, don’t mind me pls) Also kind of an AU, basically just Asgard. Anyway, I am so in love with the aesthetic this story gives me. It’s hard to explain, but after 85 chapters I just have this very clear picture in my head of what I think this story looks like. Now, Reader here is also good and well-written, the Original Characters are likeable and not super overpowered, neither is Reader. The canon characters are, in my humble opinion, interpreted nicely and tbh for some reason I just always imagine them in this comic style, rather than the way the films portray them.

Of Different Emotions by @wanderingworldwarrior. my. goodness. I am in love with these stories and I am just. so desperate for an update. idk if we will ever get one, but honestly, I re-read it this week and. Just stopped after the second part, cause I can’t deal with the pain of the third part one more time. First part is set pre-Thor 1, second part is set during Thor 1 and the third during The Avengers. I love the Reader character a lot and the Original Characters just. belong so much to the story. idk I just love the way this story is written, I love the characters, I just love it a lot, alright.

Onwards to anime. Bungou Stray Dogs:

Forgettable Significance by Witheryvine. THIS STORY. took my sanity, threw it out of the window and then spat on me. It broke my heart so very often, cause it manages to make you question yourself. morals about relationships out of the window. I re-read this story like five times.

still still still by toriosaurus. I was waiting, desperately, for every single chapter. This AU gives me everything I need and more. I remember doing fanart for this story and being very proud of it, even though it did no justice to the original story. Normally I am not a fan of, idk what to call it, no power AUs because most people just do the thing wrong for me. But this one hits.

If I recommend Twist and Shout now I get thrown into Turbohell, so idk if you want a very sinful Destiel fanfic, then read

Hot Water by Chiyume. I was 16, I decided to read Destiel fanfictions and this one kind of did it for me.

Don’t @ me. I really read a lot more than this, but I suck at organising myself and I just barely ever save shit. Also it’s late, I’ve been on a video call with my friend for over three hours now and I just like to clown when I am tired. Anyway, I used to bookmark Destiel fanfics back in the day and the rest is just. Read it, kudos, comment, and then I forget to save. The multichapter fics are often still in my subscribes, but sometimes. just.. not.

I fell in love with this fic. It’s easily one of my favourite soukoku fics. Chuuya’s characterization, especially, is amazing, and his interactions with Dazai are so on point it hurts. Be sure to give this a read!

There’s a package on Dazai’s desk: a fresh bouquet of camellias, premium-grade scotch, imported chocolates. The card says the gift is addressed to ‘Love’ and it’s from ‘Chuuya’. Of course, the only explanation is that this package got somehow delivered to the wrong person. Of course.

But then that would mean that Chuuya means for the gift to go to another person. Of course, the only logical course of action is for Dazai to investigate who that person is. And eliminate interrogate them. Of course.

This fic is freaking hilarious. It’s such a good laugh, and it also includes sassy Atsushi, which is what makes it stand out. The soukoku is sweet and cheesy in all the right ways.

He wanted to sleep, but the pain made that impossible. He had to take medication, but for that, he had to eat and that was out of the question because the mere thought of food made him want to throw up. He couldn't do anything for himself and it made him feel so . . .

Helpless.

And he hated that. Sure, he loved Atsushi dearly (not that he had an easy time saying or expressing it), and the weekend was meant to be a nice getaway but he never wanted his boyfriend taking care of him because of a stupid migraine.

I have never coo’d over a shin soukoku fic more. This is so sweet and good. The characterization for Akutagawa has got to be one of my favourite characterizations and I’m so blessed to have read this.

Akutagawa Ryuunosuke lived a relatively simple life. He resided in a small one-bedroom apartment downtown overlooking the port, hosted dinner once a week for himself and his sister, Gin, and was the top sales representative, undefeated, for his company’s Yokohama branch for the past 10 months straight.

At least, everything in his life was relatively simple, until one Nakajima Atsushi was hired, and assigned to be Akutagawa’s partner (no doubt a part of some scheme cooked up by his conniving boss). Now, Akutagawa’s life is a confusing mess.

A story about interoffice memos, potted cacti, and falling in love gradually, then all at once.

(Or, the one where everyone knows Akutagawa and Atsushi are dating, except Akutagawa himself.)

I’m not even joking when I say this might be my favourite shin soukoku fic ever. The characterization is flawless, the interactions are perfect, and it rings with so much life and warmth. I will keep on recommending this fic until everyone in the world has read it. It’s one of the best fics I’ve read not only in the BSD fandom, but at all.

He tugged at that stupid cravat until it was loose enough to descend on a pale, unblemished neck. Akutagawa’s breath was quick, his pulse racing. Atsushi licked the vein, growling when Akutagawa let his head fall back against the wall. He brushed his lips up and down the exposed skin and every shudder, every hitch in the other’s breath transferred straight to his hardening cock. “Jinko, just—” the rest of the sentence was lost in a groan when Atsushi bit down and sucked, not drawing blood but hard enough to bruise. Thin, strong fingers dug into his shoulder blades as he made his way up and down Akutagawa’s neck, marking and caressing him.

Over three encounters, things between Atsushi and Akutagawa escalate.

When reading this fic, lock the door and turn of the lights. Maybe even wait until no one else is home. What I mean is, this fic is so freaking good and I have never loved a sskk smut as much as i love this one. The characterization is pretty much perfection, and I’ve reread it so many times.

For Chuuaku week day 2: soft/delicate

Short and sweet. I’ve reread this so many times. It’s the softest chuuaku fic I’ve read in a long time - which is saying something. Please, spare a few minutes to give this a read. And, if you can, read this author’s other works. They’re one of my favourite writers~!

Fiction Writer's Appreciation Day 2018

This may be a bit late in some time zones, anyway, I appreciate so many authors, (Melissa Marr, Martha Grimes, JK Rowling, Asagiri, Stephen King, Marie Wu, Jane Austen, the list is pretty long). This post (my first and maybe last) is for the ones who, as Austen put it "write only for fame and without any view to pecuniary emolument." (Sarcasm at it's finest) I'm going to use their AO3 names so that anyone who stumbles across this randomness can check them out and appreciate them as well.
