loves horror movies/novels, especially about the monsters that claim louisiana as their home. it makes them feel less alone to imagine they aren't the only strange thing out there.

for a long time during their teenage years, thought their inexplicable psychic impulses were an extremely aggressive symptom of their ocd/the medication they were on. took them ages to accept that they were real and tell Vivian.

doubts most flirtation/attention from strangers for their looks -- they work very hard to keep their weird gut feelings from manifesting on the outside, and they know once someone gets a load of that, they'll lose interest.

that said, fully leans into saying that weird shit out loud around receptive parties when they know they can get away with it. it's there, they might as well acknowledge it, right?

was wondering if the holler was small enough their nose ring might be a problem, then saw Avery's angel bites and was relieved. does it maybe mark them both as outsiders? who's to say.

misses their mother terribly, but has gotten better about coping with it.

chose the name Sidney as a tribute to their favorite final girl, Sidney Prescott. (Lennox was for Vivian's favorite musician, Annie Lennox.)

does actually love their terrible roommate, Truck the cat. Loves all cats, and is doing their damnedest to respect Frou-frou's space.

didn't really have any big life ambitions, happy to live in N.O. with the rich culture of spirits that reside there, but sometimes dreams of moving to a brand new highrise in a city with less... history. just to get a break. turns out they and Tabitha will have that in common.

Vivian actually moved the them to the city before she died, wanting the two of them to spend some time somewhere fun and make good memories at what she felt would be the end of her life. Sidney kind of wonders if moving would be betraying her somehow, even now.

has the Lovers of Valdaro tattooed on their thigh, and a tattoo of the knife from the Scream films on the opposite upper arm.

partially at Pearlanne's funeral bc they think Vivian would want to pay respects, but also bc they miss having family to be close to. they secretly, desperately hope on the ride up that they'll click with Tabitha and have a friend again.

currently romancing Reese in my first run through with them, but I have a branch saved for Avery when (when, dammit!!) they become available in chapter 5.

AUGHHGH I just 19.17 and. There's a lot to say, but I'm at work and i got shit to do.

1. There's a neat parallel between Lucy v Anthem and Lucy v Musser. I know others have already pointed out how the trio is rarely the ones to deliver the metaphorical killing blow, which reflects Pale's running theme of building and maintaining relationships (<- statement said by the utterly deranged). ANyway, Lucy especially is the one to keep pushing forward, to keep going. Shes the one who keeps bringing the fight like 90% of the way there, so someone else can finish it. OH amd that same tenacity ties into her vision. Alternate-her tried and failed a demense challenge *three times*. Failing a challenge once would be a serious setback for any practitioner, but she kept trying, in a remarkably short period of time.

2. Durocher's involvement did seem a bit contrived? I guess is yhe right word? To be completely honest, i was spoiled a bit; i saw a post talking about Durocher and Musser so reading 19.15 to .17 i was keeping an eye on her, so it wasnt too shockign. I was aware that the chekov's gun was in place, i guess.

Anyway, Durocher's last involvement in the story was, what, pre-contest siccing her primeval on Marci? And yeah Avery talked eith Gilkey who fought it, but that's still like three degrees of separation from Durocher herself. I think it would be less off-feeling if Durocher had appeared more recently, like during the time skip montage interlude when everyone was sorting out all the new Others Chuck made.

3. I think 19.z will be a st Victor kids interlude, which should help clarify what the hell was going on with them this chapter. Reading the reddit comments, it sounds like they were hanging back, so *they* could be the ones to deal the metaphorical/literal killing blow after the trio softened up Musser?

3.a. I predicted that one of the st victor kids would fuck around with winter glamor, and bring the wild hunt on *their* head, and the trio would have to step in and defend them, but there were already so many balls in the air this arc.

4. More on Durocher. She definitely has *a* moral compass, aligned on *some* axis. Her breaking point is the reveal that Musser poisoned and murdered Timothy Crowe as a shortcut for power, but not the poisoning and murdering part, but the *shortcut* part? And her line about alternate timeline Musser 'showing weakness' feels like. Ironic, looping around to sincerity. That 'might-makes-right with the most literal definition of might' ethos feels like what you'd expect of a kaiju-mancer, so I guess the question is how sincere is it. How much of an act is it, and how much of the act has become real, you know? Though I guess that applies to all practitioners, needing to create and follow their rules of discourse. Needing put on a strong face for the spirits. Needing to appear bulletproof.

The black sprites are really unpopular. I expected some bias but that's just depressing. If that's just the online fandom, I understand why we PB rarely include black LIs and why the black LIs have so little screen time. Asian and hispanic characters are doing so much better. This also explains why PB often go for ambiguously brown sprites. They don't want to invest in a character who is doomed to fail

Sadly, yes. According to the customizable LIs poll I made (900+ respondents), Ava was the only Black LI who won in her category... and yes, Asian and Hispanic LIs are doing quite well when it comes to popularity.  LIs like Vera, Leah, Griffin, Zoey (and even Shane from Platinum, Raleigh was the most popular choice followed by Avery) from what I gathered in the fandom all ended up somewhat being sidelined and thus end up with underdeveloped character arcs coz the other LIs ended up the more popular choice ~ (still mad about Zoey, I hated Kingsley with Passion yet I keep seeing them instead - no hate on Kingsley-mancers tho)

I’ll answer these for my Liara-mancer Avery because her friendships are all special.

5. Who’s Shepard’s best friend?

Kaidan, probably. Her longest-term best friend anyway. Garrus is another, but her friendship with Kaidan I always saw as slightly more special.

6. What makes their friendship special?

He had a crush on her, she let him down pretty harshly because she’d spent most of the time they knew each other hitting on chicks and asari? Like their journey to see Shaira ended with Kaidan waiting outside for a decent amount of time? What made him think she’d like him? They ended up finding it absolutely hilarious (as someone who used to have a crush on my best friend before I realised I wasn’t into dudes the crush to strong-friendship thing is one of my favourite things)

7. What’s the most stupid thing they ever did together?

You ever see Shepard drive a Mako? You should see her drive it drunk. Lets just say she and Kaidan were… not particularly on good terms with Anderson for a while.

8. How did their friendship change over time?

Their friendship grew rocky, as per canon, through ME2 and the beginning of ME3 but I like to think my Renegade gal got really angry and scream/cried at Kaidan for blaming her and ended up making him realise that she wan’t Evil. Through ME3 she gets really proud of him and he spends most of the time teasing her about how Liara made her soft (since she’s slightly more paragon than usual in ME3, she’s never been 100% anything though)

9. How do they spend their time together?

Hanging, chilling, relaxing. Tbh the times they aren’t fighting are spent talking about silly things, training together (along with James too in ME3) and generally just not doing much. Sometimes they have a drink, or at least Kaidan does since I headcanon that my Shepard rarely drinks.
