“Bisexual Triangles

Somewhere in all this excitement with gay and lesbian symbols, bisexuals appear to have slipped through the cracks. It has only been within the last decade or so that bisexuals have begun actively organizing and fighting for equal voices. One of the many good things to come out of this movement is a symbol that bisexuals can call all their own: the interlocking pink and blue triangles, sometimes referred to as the "biangles."

Unfortunately, in contrast to most other pride symbols, the exact origin of this symbol is quite mysterious. I have polled a great number of national and international bisexual and gay/lesbian/bisexual organizations, but nobody has been able to give me a definitive source. The pink triangle is obviously taken from the gay symbol. The blue triangle was never used by the Nazis. It may have been added as a foil for pink- pink for girls and blue for boys (because bisexuals have attractions to both), with the overlapping purple triangle (purple has always been a very prominent color in te gay pride movement) representing the middleground that bisexuals fall into. I've also heard it explained that the pink triangle represent homosexuality while blue represents heterosexuality. Thus the overlap between the pink and blue triangles is the purple triangle of bisexuality. All these are personal explanations that I've gathered through Email, so if anyone has their own opinions or suggestions, I'd love to hear them.”

Signs You May be in an Emotionally Ab*sive Relationship

Someone asked me about the warning signs of an abusive relationship. Although one can exist without the other, emotional abuse often precedes physical abuse. Those kinds of “red flags” are so hard to pick up on as they’re happening, unless you are aware of what they are. I just found some this great resource, and another one here. If you cannot click those links, see some of these warnings signs:

Does your partner ….

… put you down, embarrass or shame you?

… call you names?

… ignore you?

… demand to know where you are every minute?

… treat you as inferior?

… purposefully embarrass you, often times in front of others?

… not allow you to make decisions?

… rarely validate your opinions?

... refuse to respect a boundary you’ve tried to set?

… threaten you?

... criticize everything you do?

… tell you that you’re crazy?

… belittle your accomplishments, aspiration or plans?

… forbid you from talking to or seeing you friends, family or coworkers?

... say disparaging things about your friends, family, or coworkers?

… keep you from sleeping?

... lay blame on you, even in a situation where no blame needs to be assigned?

… accuse you of cheating or is possessively jealous?

… cheat on you and then blame you for his or her behavior?

… tell you that you will never find anyone better?

… repeatedly point out your mistakes?

… attempt to control what you wear?

... refuse to respect basic privacy boundaries (your phone, your computer, etc.)?

… threaten to hurt you, your children, your family or your pets?

Individually, these things do not equal an abusive relationship, and some of these are far more subtle than others. But! A relationship should never make you feel unsafe or scared. An emotional abusive seeks to maintain the balance of power in a relationship, to always have the last say or the upper hand.. Your partner should not control, intimidate, or isolate you. Everyone has problematic behaviors, right? People get jealous. People get tired and irritable. The issue here is frequency and intensity and a pattern of behavior in your relationship. A partner should not be a constant emotional drain on you, never apologize for unacceptable behavior, or blame you for those behaviors.

Update:

Another good warning sign, as pointed out in the tags is that multiple friends and family having concerns and reservations about your partner is a big red flag. Your partner does not have to be universally liked, but if several people close to you have issue with how your partner treats you, don’t dismiss them as being jealous or petty, examine their concerns against this info.

This is what I made for the A/V Project at the Wix Lounge last week. Some new Rotoscope work, a new cartoon, and a bunch of old Cowwolf cartoons I colored. I had this on loop on a GIANT flatscreen TV for 3 hours. It was awesome.

Anyone know how to set it to loop on Vimeo? Also it’s silent because I made it for a party with live music, but if anyone has suggestions for music or feels like composing something, I’m open to it.
