Nou Barris, Barcelona
Nou Barris - Reasonably Priced Housing in Barcelona
The Nou Barris District is historically a working class and immigrant residential area with just a few pockets of up market housing. Today it is a mix of many kinds of housing and residents and is best known for shady trees and a quiet vibe. It is a peaceful district divided into 13 small neighborhoods where few tourists ever reach. The district is still popular with immigrants especially those from Romania, the Ukraine and Ecuador. There are several green areas with benches were you can see elderly residents sitting and chatting.
Nou Barris is located north of the city center on the outer edge of Barcelona city. To get a glimpse of typical Nou Barris the best place to start is at Plaza de Llucmajor. The neighborhood is well connected to the city center by Barcelona’s public transport system and there is easy access to the motorway. On the down side car owners will find parking problematic, especially in the older parts of the neighborhood. The Collserola nature area is close by and the neighborhood has a friendly village vibe with some small bars and restaurants.
There are several shopping streets( Passaig Valldaura and Via Julia), a library and community centers as well as places of worship. Parc de la Guineueta is one of the green areas in the neighborhood and it has fountains, lawns and even a small lake. Other parks in the district include Parc del Turo de la Peira and the second largest park in Barcelona, Parc Central de Nou Barris.
Nou Barris Housing
Homes tend to cost approximately €400-€500 for a two bedroom rental apartment in Nou Barris. Because of the reasonably priced housing the area is popular with Barcelona’s many students. The neighborhood is primarily residential and there is a mix of apartment buildings, houses with small gardens and some old housing estates. There have been recent redevelopments of historic buildings and you can find reasonably priced accommodation in quaint homes overlooking small squares or side streets. For those looking for a bargain this is a great district to start with.
