Dear Sephiroth: (a letter to a fictional character, because why not) #480
Today was another gloomy, chilly day. For this reason, we weren't able to leave today, either. And since we explored the nearby attractions yesterday and the day before, we decided to just rest in the lounge area of the little airport. I made a tea! And J made something out of rice, black-eyed peas, and one of the soup mixes J got when we gathered supplies!

Once our bellies were filled, I decided to play some Valheim! I figured that, since we've been pretty tired the last few days, and since we're (hopefully) leaving for a new destination tomorrow, today would be a good day to rest and relax. So that is what I did!
I tried hunting for more Trolls, but I didn't find any. I did, however, find a pair of boars with a single rarity star! So I had them chase me back to my base so I could start the process of taming them! Boars with a higher number of rarity stars drop more meat and leather when slain; which means I need to take fewer lives to generate materials and meat, and that's a good thing.
J eventually joined me, because there wasn't much else to do. He wandered around hunting for trolls and searching for tin; he found some tin, but no trolls. And he also found...!!
...Yes. That is a boar with two rarity stars. Yes, it is chasing me. And yes, J did, for sure, help me to get it to our base, since he found it a very long way from home; it had to chase us a very long way! But that's okay; untamed boars are very angry, so... I don't think they mind chasing us around too terribly much.
I decided that the thing to do from there was explore the entirety of the island we're on. And then after that, I decided that the thing to do is build a boat so that we can find other islands. And to that end, I built a dock. And then I built a boat!
...Actually, I built an entire house to go with it. I did that before I built the dock:
Then, finally, I built teleporters; one at the new house, like this:
...And then I had to run all the way back home to build the other teleporter:
From there, you set their keyword to be the same, and that links them up! Here's how it looks when you go through:
And, for reference, this is the map; the red circle closer to the center is the original base I built. Then, the other red circle, to the northwest, is the second base with the port; now it'll be easy to get to the sea!
I'm looking forward to what I might find! I'm pretty sure there are some Swamps nearby, likely filled with dangerous draugr – essentially, very tough bloated corpses that somehow know how to use weapons; they hit really hard.
We'll also have to deal with these gnarled, root-like creatures, giant leeches, wraiths, surtlings, and slimes, once we get to the Swamp. All of these things are very difficult enemies when you're just starting out with exploring there, if I remember correctly. I seem to recall the draugr archers being particularly fearsome. I wonder if I'll remember how to navigate these things...
But I'm getting ahead of myself. I have to defeat The Elder a second time before I can go to the Swamp; that way, both J and I will have keys with which to enter the crypts there, so we can gather iron. Gathering iron is, in some ways, a bit of an exercise in frustration, but hopefully we'll be well-prepared.
I was actually hoping to catch a video of me slaying The Elder for ya, but... just as I was preparing to go face him, I got caught off guard by a troll armed with a tree trunk; I was wondering why my house had taken so much damage, and I was going around repairing it when the troll showed up. Suddenly, I understood why my house had taken damage. I killed the troll; you can parry them even if they are wielding tree trunks as weapons. But then there was ANOTHER troll unexpectedly, and so I had to deal with that one, too.
...Trolls deal a LOT of damage. And so, what with them swinging their big tree trunks around, they took out half the damn forest. And my first fight with The Elder didn't help matters:
...Yeah. That wreckage all over the place is not my handiwork. I don't like cutting trees if I can avoid it, instead preferring to get wood from old stumps and fallen logs. This just makes me sad. Only thing for it is to gather it up, though, to make sure the materials don't go to waste. But it's gonna take forever to clean up, and this is only a small fraction of the wreckage. Sigh...
...I guess I should stop writing for now. J and I are gonna get up at 5:30am so we can leave the airport by 6:30am. We'll get up, eat real quick, and I'll pack up our things while J inspects the plane. You have to inspect it every single time you fly it; the last thing one needs is a mechanical failure in the air. Apparently, fairly recently, a mechanical failure led to a helicopter crashing somewhere around New Jersey or New York City. No one involved in the crash survived. What a horrifying thing.
Airplanes are generally safer than helicopters, I think; even if the engine fails and the propeller stops spinning, the plane becomes a glider instead. A heavier glider than usual, but still. It doesn't go into freefall unless something extremely wrong happens, such as icing on the wings (avoidable by not flying in bad weather), or if you do crazy maneuvers in it with so much G force that the plane comes undone (which J will never, ever do).
...Bedtime. I'm... gonna try hard not to think about that stuff.
I love you. And... I'm gonna ask you to be safe out there in your world. We'll be doing our best to stay safe, too.
...Watch over us, okay...?
I'll write again tomorrow.
Your friend, Lumine

My Dearest Eliza,
I write to you on this, the 6th of August. I hope that my letter finds you well.
It is three months now since our campaign against the darkness began. The blood-colored moon that hangs in the sky seems a constant companion watching over our efforts to learn what exactly it is that we are meant to be doing here.
Two days back, we received missives - not the first that we have found, and yet more informative than any that have come before. Would that we had this information at the start of this conflict, spelled out in plain English rather than the runic language of the local inhabitants of this place.
But alas, these pamphlets come too late. Our troops are caught in conflict with the giant nightmare snake, but to little avail. I begin to fear that we shall never see the much needed spoils of that victory.
All I can do at this point is to continue to repurpose the plentiful slimeballs that our soldiers bring back from their conquests into various potions, alcohol, and donuts. I pray that the day soon comes when the giant nightmare snake is defeated, and we come one step closer to peace.
Sincerely yours,
Ch'ee Vomop

Instead of doing what I said I'd do I started on my path to the woodland mansion with zero hesitation instead of prepping for it being my lust for conquering structures in this game knows no bounds and on my way I came across some lovely terrain that I think will be very good for my base

This is all the same landmark, I think it will provide the verticality I want.

So with this magnificent piece of natural artwork discovered I've gotten a new waypoint placed and linked to my compass. I will be returning here shortly with all my junk in the village and puppy

Let's Play Grounded |07| Stinky Bugs
While on the hunt for larvae, we run into two of the more troublesome bugs – not spiders – so far. The Bombardier Beetle and the Stink Bug. They aren’t the most fun of the bugs to fight, but the parts that they have will be among the most important for upgrades.

My Project Zomboid character, Tressa Thorn, has finally been bitten 114 (3 hour real time) days into the apocalypse. She was bitten while her back was turned to an approaching undead assailant and failing to sprint out of reach fast enough from his lunge.
I dedicate this post to her rich career of survival in Knoxville county.
In those 114 days she killed 32,174 zombies with her most used weapons being the hammer, the double barrel shotgun, and the hunting knife.
She mastered every Survivalist, Firearm, Crafting, and Passive skill. A few more weeks in-game and she would have mastered the Agility skills too. The Combat skills would not be maxed before every zombie in Knoxville was killed unfortunately. But at the time I originally aimed for a round 5 for each non-boosted weapon skill (the boosted ones being short blade and short blunt).
She was injured by zombies exactly 4 times: 2 lacerations, 1 scratch, 1 bite. All avoidable, all mistakes on my part.
She took refuge in the old Southern Muldraugh Diner, where she amassed a great fleet of vehicles, collecting nearly every variant of vehicle in Knoxville. Countless car parks in towns all over were scouted in pursuit of this.
She consumed every recipe skill magazine, skill book, CD, and VHS tape there was in the game. However, she only found and watched 2 Home VHS tapes. Would finding every other Home VHS tape be realistic? Probably not. But she would have tried eventually, knowing her grit and determination.
I hope the included screenshots and video gives a brief look into my most successful character yet.
RIP Tressa Thorn, I salute your achievements and your tenacity in the face of a doomed world. I will miss you and your defiance of death.
...
(Disclaimer: The "Standardized Experience" mod was used to make some skills more attainable in reasonable time. I also used a 3x multiplier for exercise experience. I don't consider these to be particularly game breaking and the altered skills still took a fair amount of time to master.
Beyond that, feel free to ask me anything about the game or the character.)

I think the perfect Star Wars strategy game for me would be less like a 4X as Rebellion and Empire at War were, and rather have elements from MGS: Peace Walker or XCOM 2. You run Yavin Base or Echo Base, send squads like Phoenix Squadron or Kyle Katarn out to steal Imperial weapons and ships, then liberate planets. The Rebel Alliance isn't a polity that governs planets and dispatches armies, they're a mobile guerilla force using hit and run tactics.

Woohoo! Time to break the mold! Yeesh, it's been crusting for months.
Where have I and Indie Tourney been? The simple answer is: college. It's been one ride after another both fun and challenging, sometimes one or the other, and other times both. I've been spending a lot of time meeting new friends, exploring my surroundings, and tackling a load of academics along with the search for internships and jobs. When it seems the world is throwing every responsibility at you, the best thing I can do is take my time and approach the way I think best, and that meant putting a hold on my projects... for now!
I've been itching to find a time where I can relax and populate this world once more. That time... has arrived!
Traveling Companions - A busy and bustling city of innovation and exploration, credited with popularizing the very term, "mobile", of course must fit the bill with snazzy, techy adornments. You can even spy various ships out in the river, stacked with valuable cargo and intrepid passengers hungry to unlock the secrets of the puzzle island. In the rural outskirts, you can also see Crazy Dave's Lawn, primed to play line defense.
The Chessmasters - We've spread our resources and set up camp throughout the forests. Hidden from the populous cities, these woods will allow us to carry out our operations and plot strategies with minimal chances of espionage leaking our plans to the enemy. Meet in the central camp right after our guided tour of the Pit. We are to discuss movement towards securing the Indie Artifact.
Like Clockwork - The grandest of optimizers have cleared an entire reach of the forest in the name of sheer statistics and economy. Their generators, conveyor lines, and automated logic circuits are unlike any other, and not only that... they seem to be diverging a handful of their power supply to fighting back against blue, ravenous fluid known only as Creeper. Goodness knows whether this scale of deforestation is truly justified...
