started off as me redrawing some of my initial mairon designs and ended up going on an rpg tangent 😭 i really wish i could have done the portraits in a pixel art style to better fit the aesthetic but my canvas wasnt the right size!!! i ended up changing annatar completely (im still contemplating how much i prefer this one compared to his old one however...!) and adjusting post-numenor sauron a bit when compared to their old 2022 sketches! im probably gonna do more redraws in the months to come cause of all the stuff i wanna change when i look back to some of my old designs haha 😳

i like to think each 'form' sauron takes eventually has different mannerisms and likes/dislikes the longer he stays in them without shapeshifting into something else, but one thing they all have in common is being predisposed to nagging melkor 😎

Jason who everyone believed would be great and Percy who knew that everyone except his mom believed he wouldn't amount to anything unless he proved himself. Percy who chose to make the Great Prophecy be about him so Nico wouldn't have to carry that burden after losing his sister. Jason who chose to confront Caligula alone so Piper would live after the oracle told him he or Piper would die.

Percy who believed he would die at 16. Jason actually dying at 16.

Imagine if Percy and Jason actually had the chance to have a genuine conversation about how being sons of The Big 3 hurt them in different but similar ways bc of what was expected of them and bc of how they were treated by people. Percy and Jason knowing that they can't really show weakness or insecurity or ever say that they were scared bc everyone at their respective camps were counting on their leadership.

Percy and Jason who had their own distinct journeys to be the heroes they became and both journeys were valid and important but did Jason and Percy ever believe for a second that they were important not for their parentage and achievements but because of who they are and actively chose to be

#those 911 fans acting like there's hardly any queer rep on the show just because they want their fave yte guys to get together are so annoying. Don't even get me started on how some of them are bus drivers for a lot of homophobic and racist and misogynistic rhetoric too in this fandom, like it's crazy.

Anyway I wish this show was actually bold enough to give Miguel an arc exploring his feelings of entitlement over the captaincy spot. Throughout the show Johnny has repeatedly told Miguel that Robby is a lost cause but hey, It’s okay because he has Miguel now. That Miguel’s his champion, his Number One Boy. So how could Miguel not feel at least somewhat entitled to the captain spot? How could he not feel insecure about his place in Johnny’s life with Robby not just back in the picture, but now literally taking the number one spot? When Johnny has repeatedly put into both kids heads that when it comes to his love and attention its one vs. the other, how could there be no lingering feelings of resentment and jealousy?

No but Thomas as the Right Arm's spy is so fascinating.

Maybe right after Newt’s attempt, he reaches out to the Right Arm, no planning or premeditation, just "I can't do this anymore" grief and guilt. And he wasn't intending to become a spy at first. He was just going to give them whatever he could and damn the consequences for himself after (a lot like movie canon) but they convince him not to, tell him he could do a lot more for everyone by being the man on the inside, and he's guilty and desperate enough to go for it.

(Maybe they don't realise how young he is. Maybe they hope he's older than he sounds on the radio.)

(Maybe they decide that their first real lead into WCKD is worth pinning so much on a 13-14 year old.)

And now the game is different because Thomas can't get caught. He has to play along because that's the only way he can keep this going. And maybe it helps. Maybe some of that guilt eases a little, knowing he's doing something right (something good). Or maybe not. Because the only way for him to stay on the inside is to work with WCKD. He has to play the loyal Elite and continue the Trials and send more kids into the Mazes because if he resists, he'll be taken off the project and who will give them information then?

And when the Right Arm raids the Mazes and rescues the Gladers, the Icers, once they get the chance to talk to each other and share stories and what bits of memory they've gotten back after Mary Cooper works on them, they get a better idea of what was done and who did it to them. They talk about the Director's "pets" with disdain. They talk about their spy rescuer with admiration.

Imagine the absolute shock when they find out it's the same person. Maybe Thomas finally slips up. Maybe Teresa finally figures him out. Either way, he's out of WCKD for good and in the Right Arm entirely and now he has no idea what to do with himself anymore. He's been lying to everyone he's spoken to for years. He doesn't know how to give a straight answer anymore. He's never been a normal teenager in his life and even now, surrounded by kids his age, being as close to normal as they can be, it's an impossible task. Some (a lot) of them hate him. None of them trust him. He doesn't know how to talk to anyone about...well, anything. He doesn't have hobbies. He doesn't have friends. He's a lab rat.

The distrust doesn't go anywhere for a while, caught in this odd kind of stalemate. Thomas is a ghost in the Right Arm. He does whatever he's asked, puts in effort with everyone else, but he doesn't interact beyond that. He eats by himself and sleeps on his own. Weeks in, someone finally asks Vince or Mary how they reached Thomas in the first place. It's a surprise to be told he reached them, years ago. The next logical question is why. That answer is less clear, it's something Thomas doesn't talk about easy, but apparently something happened to one of the Gladers, bad enough it broke something in him.

The distrust doesn't leave. But it softens. It takes a lot to stand up against WCKD. Especially a kid with no one helping him.

It's Newt and Minho who reach out first. They're the only ones who know how Newt really broke his leg. They're the only ones who recognise the timing. They don't know it for sure. But when they first walk up to Thomas – the Elite, the spy, the traitor, the savior – they're watching him close enough to see how his gaze lingers just a moment longer on Newt, the subtle glance down at his limp, and they know.

Minho throws himself into a chair, casually careless in an art form, subtle like a brick. "So, shank, that crazy guy Jorge says you designed that snare trap for the munitions stash, that true?"

Thomas stares and doesn't answer. Like if he holds still and silent they might not see him.

Sighing, Newt takes a seat a little closer, aware of how Thomas tenses whenever people get too close to him, and skirts the edge of that limit. "What he means to say is, 'Hi, I'm Minho and this is Newt, mind if we sit with you?' but he's got manners worse than Bark. So hey, I'm Newt and this is Minho, mind if we sit with you?"

A small head shake.

"Good that. What's your name?" He already knows. Everyone does.

"Thomas."

"Nice to meet you, Tommy."

just. came across this panel and got unexpectedly and wildly emotional about aizawa becoming a dad. because like. he cares about his students, he's shown time and time again that he'll push them and fight for them against villains and the media and he'll go to his last breath to protect them but like. they're hero students and he's their teacher and he's tough and strict because he has to be to keep them alive. but then like--

it's morning and he's doing her hair. he's got the hair ties with the little baubles on them and he's doing her hair and she's been through so much crap and aizawa's never shown being demonstrably affectionate or enthusiastic around her the way that izuku and mirio are but like. he's been her dependable quiet shadow every time she's shown up in the manga so far, and he doesn't have to be strict or tough with her because what she needs isn't someone to teach her how to save others, it's someone that she can trust to be there when she needs, someone she can trust to do her hair with little bauble hair ties in the morning.
