hello! i'm denver [sh/th, cst, 21+] and i'm stoked to be joining wannabe with hwang daesung, a character i've loved for many years and explored many renditions of 🫶 i have a pinterest board for him here if you're interested in taking a look at that, and you can read all about him under the cut! as per usual, please like this post if you're interested in plotting and i'll come to you asap!

i.

hwang daesung, english name dylan hwang, was born june 14, 2004 in queens, new york as the first and only hwang child. his parents, lee "mona" mirae and richard "richie" hwang always intended to have at least two children, but then they met dylan and they loved him so intensely that they didn't feel like they needed another.

family is important in dylan's story, so here's a rundown on the main characters: richie is a life-long dreamer, often getting carried away with the potential of what could be rather than what is. he's a fun-loving, enthusiastic man who spent his life playing in bands that never got as famous as he wanted. made most of his money as a studio musician, and shortly after dylan's birth, he opened a record store called just strings that became the family's financial stronghold. / mona is grounded in reality, rarely allowing herself to dream at all. she's a hairdresser, though any passion she had for it must've died in beauty school. but a job is a job, and it's what she's good at. she loves richie, which is why she doesn't pursue more than what she has. she's the stable one so that he can take risks. she's realistic, but never pessimistic. she loves her family and they are the most important thing to her. / edward "eddie" hwang is richie's older brother. as a teenager and young adult, he lived similarly to richie; but with age, he settled down with much less resistance. was an accountant for much of dylan's early life, and a frequent babysitter. arguably knows dylan better than his parents.

dylan's earliest memories consist of listening to and watching his dad play music. he was always at his dad's side; the gentler, more forgiving parent, and it didn't take long for dylan to decide he wanted to be just like him with both the music and the exuberant personality. he put on countless air-guitar performances for his extended family at holidays, and even more lousy stand-up comedy routines. he loved attention, and he got plenty of it.

finances started to dwindle a bit as time went on because richie seemed to be getting sick often and didn't have enough help to keep the record store open regularly; tensions rose in the family, but dylan was shielded from most of it. he did start to pull away from his parents a bit out of concern that they were keeping something from him.

TW CANCER, PARENTAL DEATH / eventually, months-long complaints of headaches and nausea followed by a bout of doctor visits saw richie getting diagnosed with brain cancer in summer 2016, which he had suspected by neglected to get checked earlier in a state of denial. by early 2017, he was gone. / END TW

mona used the life insurance payout to relocate back to seoul, south korea, where her parents were, as she felt the need to be close to them and suspected that she would need financial support and help raising dylan. eddie followed suit to stay close to dylan, and re-opened just strings in mapo-gu to honor richie.

for a while, things were tough. dylan immediately started going by his korean name, daesung, to avoid sticking out... but his newfound behavioral issues made him stick out all the same. grief manifested as anger; he was acting out at home and at school, and said a lot of things that he couldn't take back. didn't start to calm down until early 2018, when he completely threw himself into music. started getting more serious about the guitar especially. his mom, desperate to see him happy, gladly forked out money to buy him any equipment that he wanted/needed and paid for instrument and vocal lessons. did occasionally try to steer him away from music considering she watched her husband try and fail his whole life, but ultimately she knew that music was the one (1) thing that he felt connected to, and that it helped him feel close to his dad, so she agreed to support it as long as he was certain it was what he wanted.

let's speed-run through the rest of this... extremely average grades in school, excelled in creative after-school activities / started his band, backyard bones, in 2021 and really started to lighten up again since he had this thing that he was passionate and excited about / didn't plan on college, but his family talked him into it—enrolled in kyonggi university march 2022 as an animation major (because it "sounded fun" and his family just wanted him to have an education, any education) / has been half-secretly* aspiring to be an idol since 2018-2019. is happy playing independent music, but views idoldom as a shortcut to fame; and he wants to achieve the fame that his dad never did. *i say half-secretly because he's never passed an audition and tries to make it sound like a joke if he gets to talking about it to protect his own feelings, as he doesn't really feel that capable. is down for whatever happens first: his band getting signed, or becoming an idol trainee.

ii.

has an addictive personality, which is his achilles heel. does not know when to quit, does not care to know. since enrolling in university, he's gotten increasingly into partying/clubbing. (often hungover, which has cost him a few jobs—luckily, he always has the record shop and his mom's salon to fall back on when he's in need of work.) is obsessive, throwing himself completely into whatever piques his interest; a lot of times, this is a person who he'll make the center of his universe for a month of two and then ditch when the feeling of new-ness wears off. awful at maintaining relationships, romantic or platonic, and does not care to improve. many acquaintances, very few friends; and he's likely on thin ice with any friends he does manage to have. swings from high highs to low lows.

overall, he's kind. rarely (if ever) speaks maliciously, and never aims to hurt. in fact, he often aims to build people up. loves giving compliments and cheering up someone who's sad. in denial of the shitty parts of his personality, great at convincing himself he's not in the wrong. good comedic timing, somewhat charming, and usually down for whatever. a very fun person to be with in the moment; a difficult person to deal with long term, as he never seems to take anything seriously and, when it comes down to it, will almost always put himself first.

is in unreliable narrator and exists in a morally grey area. he will do whatever it takes to succeed.

iii.

open to all kinds of plots!!! but here are some basic ideas:

a long-term bff. maybe someone he met in early-mid 2017, shortly after he moved to seoul? this would be a somewhat tumultuous relationship as daesung is pretty inconsistent and self-centered, but i'd imagine they've stuck around because of how good a friend he is when he's present + a sense of obligation to look out for him? the only person who can reel him in when he starts to get out of control. i will go wherever you go. his rock, but as the person he's most comfortable with, they also get the worst of him. are they over it yet?

a new bff. someone who daesung might've known for a while, but only became close to in the past couple of months. naturally, they haven't seen his mood swings yet and haven't been a victim of his long-term ghosting/abandonment. peas in a pod. where have you been my whole life? of course, all things come to an end. it's just a matter of time.

some girl who gets her hair done by daesung's mom who absolutely adores her. every session is filled with mona talking her son up to this poor girl who might be humored or maybe just wants her to shut the fuck up and only keeps coming back because it's cheap. either way, mona's pretty sure this is daesung's future wife, and she will be arranging an "accidental double-booking" for her next appointment so that she's too busy and daesung has to be one to cut her hair.

+ any customers at the salon would be fun. daesung isn't actually trained/qualified to be cutting hair, but he's been helping out long enough that you'd probably never guess. or maybe you would. but there's bound to be some good conversation, right?

regulars at the record store too... lots of directions to go with this. someone who comes in to buy music and has to deal with daesung acting like their taste sucks and he knows more about music than they do? musicians who come in to buy supplies? where's the regular daesung's actually trying to charm and they couldn't possibly act less interested in him...

short-term exes. nothing serious. dated for a month or so, had a whirlwind romance, and then daesung got bored or they realized his heart wasn't really in it and ditched. does he still text? only when he's romanticizing what could've been. do they answer?

fans of backyard bones, if such a thing exists. someone who's trying to get closer to daesung, but whom he's currently holding at a distance out of fear of disappointing them / someone who never misses a show / a heckler who thinks this band that keeps playing at their favorite dive bar fucking sucks.

gaming buddies (pokemon, mtg, d&d, any card or board games really) / any previous victims of his ghosting really... close friends turned almost strangers. did he ditch when they needed him the most? people who will call him out. / previous coworkers, or current coworkers; he is a job-hopper and has a new job every two months or so. who's having to train him on some laggy pos system? / acquaintances from the indie music scene; drinking buddies, clubbing buddies / etc etc etc... again, i'm super open! please plot with me! <3

so danu here is the son of a hoh mother and a deaf father, his dad was born deaf and his mother progressively lost her hearing, meaning that danu grew up using almost exclusively korean sign language, he didn't really start speaking regularly until his parents had to start taking him to daycare where most of the kids didn't know ksl

he still doesn't tend to speak a lot, very much a guy who prefers to sit back and listen rather than talk a lot. sometimes he'll even reply in ksl when he's feeling lazy and/or forgets that his current company may not understand him

he's wanted to be an idol for as long as he can remember, and that's mostly because his mother was a HUGE B.Y.L fan and whenever she went to a concert or fanmeeting etc when danu was young she'd bring him along for the ride

danu even went viral as the byl baby in the early days of youtube because there was so much accidental footage of him as a baby at various byl schedules

anyway long story short is danu and his mother used byl to bond with each other and even now danu knows all the lyrics to their songs by heart and can even dance most of the choreography and this awakened in him a need to be on stage and perform

the problem being that both his parents were very protective of danu, and they weren't exactly thrilled about the idea of their minor son being an idol. eventually they managed to cut a deal with danu that he could do a couple auditions as long as his grades stayed good and he made sure to sit for college entrance exams so he could have a back-up plan in case the entertainment career didn't work out

danu being the stubborn dreamy little thing he is easily agreed to those terms. so far it's been no dice for him but he's not at all ready to give up, danu's very much convinced that he was meant to be an idol

whether or not other people agree with him is a bit up in the air lol, he's a decent-ish rapper and a pretty face but whenever the judges ask him to show his dance or vocal skill he almost always gets lectured on how being an idol isn't all about being pretty...but honestly even the harshest critiques can't break this kid's endless optimism

he's currently attending korea university studying to be a sign language interpreter, but he's still convinced that he won't have to rely on that job because he's definitely gonna be an idol and he will tell anyone who will listen about this

in general he's a sweetheart who doesn't really struggle too much making friends as long as they don't mind him not adding much to the conversation at times

personality.

born on november 23rd, 2002, lili grew up very spoiled because she was the only daughter in a fairly rich family. if she wanted something, she got it almost immediately.

the only issue with that is… she decided she wanted to do gymnastics when she was in middle school. her mom was reluctant due to her own traditional upbringing, but her father has always had a very ��you’re young, go have fun’ attitude.

so she was allowed to go for it, and turns out she was actually really good at it!

but then she pushed herself too hard for one big competition, broke her arm, and her parents took her out of gymnastics as a result. her mother also pushed her to instead enjoy more things that were….. Feminine…… :) rather than sports, even after she recovered.

once lili graduated high school, she realized she was a bit fed up with her parents. there’s caring and then there’s being overbearing and controlling. so, she decided to go to south korea for university (once again, to their reluctance/lack of much reaction), where she’s been living for the past few years.

but there’s a small part of her that still wants to be in front of an audience again, getting to impress and inspire others just like she was when she was younger. she even started taking dance lessons because she misses it that much! and then she sees it; an ad for a k-pop company.

while she’s hesitant about attempting to join, she decides that she would rather try and fail than to not try at all. and if she does get accepted, she just… won’t tell her family until she possibly debuts! no harm, no foul.

hi, everyone! i hope you're having a wonderful weekend so far! 🥰 it's just me, ryan, here with another attempt at a fourth muse. i introduced boyoung not long ago, then dropped him, only to replace him with a muse that i had a clearer vision for, and with that said, i'd love for you to meet hinata shouta (b. 2005, he/him)! he hails from tokyo, but has resided in south korea since he was in middle school, so there's lots of room for all types of plots. discover more about him below, and if you're interested in plotting, leave a like and i'll reach out as soon as possible! 🐰

HISTORY.

born in tokyo to a homemaker/baker and an IT director, he lived a rather simple and sweet childhood. he has older siblings that are basically all athletic, and as the youngest, he followed in their footsteps; wanting to get involved in sports himself even if he wasn't especially good at them to start with.

upon entry to middle school, his father received an offer at an IT company based in seoul that he simply couldn't refuse, and though it was a massive transition for the family, they uprooted their lives and moved to south korea. mom opened up a small bakery, the kids joined new schools and learned a new language. all that.

shouta's feelings about this were not extremely positive. he had a hard time making the change. that, and he was bullied way more in seoul than he ever was in japan, which really affected his confidence. he's short, (adorably) bucktoothed, and his feelings get hurt waaaay too easily. it was easy for stronger kids to put a target on his back.

in time, he found community after joining the football club, especially because he kept the peace with everyone by bringing baked goods for them to enjoy after practices and games. they affectionately called him the team's "grandma" and he opened up to them more.

having worked hard to keep his grades up on-top of sports, upon graduation, shouta's college entrance exams were good enough to get him accepted into korea university's department of education. his first semester started in february 2024, and you guessed it, he's involved in the school's soccer club—go tigers! 🐯

DISPOSITION.

as i often enjoy to use astrology in constructing my muse's personality to some degree, i'd like to share that some of his placements are as follows: sun in cancer, moon in cancer, scorpio rising, venus in leo, and mars in aries. ✨ now, onto a (hopefully) brief deep-dive!

hinata shouta's a naturally rather shy person, one who possesses a delicate personality. however, despite being slow to open up, and possibly a bit intimidated by the idea of making new friends, there's a warmth about him that's hard to suppress. whether he likes it or not, he draws people closer to him with his sweetness and nurturing ways. being his friend is like a cozy warm hug, but he doesn't give his trust so freely. terrified of being hurt, he remains close only to a selective few.

that said, whenever he does latch himself onto you, he will never want to let go. is this a toxic trait? i don't know yet, but that's only because i'd have to see how plotting goes. my hunch is that it very well could be. he's a clingy person, he's often possessive of friends. his brothers and sisters all baby him, and he eats all of their coddling up like spoonfuls of sugar. he wants to be babied, and he's almost pathetic about it, but only to those who he considers friends; only when he feels safe.

that's honestly what he's all about. safety. security. he hides in his shell, puts up some type of armor, but beneath the shell is nothing but softness. he protects his own very fragile feelings. he's emotional.

it is impossible for him to hide his emotions. shouta is not a master of faking a smile. you will know how he feels about something by looking at his face. that, and his entire energy and vibe turns darker. in moments of agitation or stress, he can become a bit snarky, whiney, needy, and defensive. these feelings are only amplified when he's hungry. he genuinely loves to eat!

speaking of which, he also loves to share meals with others. his mom's taught him all she knows about baking, and he also spent a lot of time with her in the kitchen as a kid. over time, he's gotten really good at it, and he adores trying new recipes. he's not a professional, but it helps him calm down; reminds him of simpler times.

whenever he's not studying or practicing, he's almost definitely buried under piles of blankets in his dorm catching up on web-comics, which are his current obsession. he often latches onto things and learns everything there is to know about them, then exchanges said topic for a new one. he uses this knowledge to his advantage, even if most of the things he's gotten into are rather niche.

one of the reasons he loves web-comics so much is because of the romance. he loooooooves romance. he watches romance dramas, anime, films, etc. all of the time, and he especially loves the sadder ones. he finds an odd comfort in "the blues", loves content that assists in having a good cry.

in soccer, he's a winger and is known for his speed, flexibility, and agility. despite being somewhat lazy while he's at home, he does take care of his body and ensures that it's up to par for athletics. he eats well, too, even if he can sometimes be indulgent.

there is a light competitiveness to him. scorpio and aries add some edge here, and make him a fighter on the field. it's selective though. these mars influences are channelled only when necessary. he doesn't want to be seen as overly strong, as he loves being babied.

his mom was 16 when she had him

they allowed his mom to stay she graduated high school but kicked her out the same day

his whole life they were poor and required a large amount of government assistance to get by

inho has a terrible relationship with his mother. she blames him for how her life ended up

she would verbally degrade him, and frequently left inho home alone to go party with friends or her new boyfriend and do drugs

there were times she or her partners would physically abuse him

up until he was about thirteen he never fought back, but then he began to, both with his words and his fists

has a problem to this day with his temper and getting into fights, has punched many a hole into a wall

his dad briefly would show up on occasion, but never for more than a few weeks

when inho was 17 his dad got his mom pregnant again with his little sister, inhye

inhye is the light of his life and he works very hard to protect her and give her a good life

nowadays she frequently lives with him and he finds a way to take her to school and pick her up daily, and the flower shop owner lets him have her around

only interacts with his mom when he can't have inhye in his care and has to bring her back

completed his military service directly out of high school and came back about september 2021

hi hi all!! this is ellie, aka the mun behind besana!! i’ve been waiting a Long time to bring taeha in, and i’m so excited to finally have her here!!

she works largely around her own schedule, letting people reach out to her when they need an extra set of hands or reaching out herself to her favorites when hours are short so she can offer her services. it’s not the most stable career, but she’s well-known in her neighborhood for being a good worker and kind person, and she does everything from deliveries to inventory to cashiering to repairing/installing appliances. anything she doesn’t know how to do, she figures it out.

in what little free time she has, she goes to auditions for fun when they’re available

she was a trainee at a small company for four years and didn’t make it through a survival show in 2022, but she still finds time to pursue her dream

he grew up in an orphanage there, left behind by his biological parents due to unknown reasons

when he turned nine years old, an american family adopted him. although grateful, vinn still had a hard time warming up to them as he wasn't used to being part of a family

he was a troublesome child at first, getting into all sorts of trouble until meeting a music producer who worked with underground rappers

this was also when he developed an interest in music, learning to create his own beats and write his own lyrics

at the age of 16 vinn reconnected with his ethnicity and stumbled upon k-pop which sparked his interest in the genre and ultimately lead him to attending dance classes as he wished to imitate all the choreographies from all the music videos he saw

after turning 18, vinn decided he wanted to find his biological parents. he managed to contact his aunt, who helped him reunite with his biological mother living in korea

wanting to make an effort to build a relationship with his biological mother, vinn accepted his aunt's offer to move in with her and her husband

he also began working part-time at the convenient store they own, while attending university and giving private guitar lessons

his main goal is still to get scouted as a trainee and eventually debut
