Unpopular opinion: people don't get to choose what kind of family they're born into, and this includes people whose families have more wealth. But people do choose whether or not to be assholes to those people, based on stereotypes and presumptions (about ego, attitude, etc) that may or may not actually be true for that person. And in those cases, the person with the wealth isn't the issue.
I know someone who got an inheritance and every time we talked about it, they started crying. They felt so guilty because they didn't "deserve the money" and they knew how hard it is for someone to get that amount, and they just wanted their parents back.
Don't be an asshole to someone based on the circumstances of their birth, period.

Summary: Meet Feyre — an exhausted, overworked attorney working for Vanserra and Co. Law Offices. She wants nothing more than to prove herself, but in the past year that she's been working here, she can't help but feel underestimated and talked down to by her boss, Beron, and her coworkers.
All of them are just the worst, she thinks, but she might hate Rhysand more than any of them. Maybe it's because of the way he looks at her sometimes from across the room, like he can actually see her, like he knows exactly what she's thinking and knows that she's settling for far less than she deserves. She hates it when he gets smug like that.
So, of course, fate has them getting stuck in an elevator together as they're both trying to leave work one evening.
Well, Feyre guesses she might as well get cozy.
Read it on AO3 here!
Feyre Archeron stared at her computer monitor and tried to convince herself that her eyes weren’t, in fact, actually literally bleeding from how many times they’d scanned over the same words over the past few hours.
She blinked, as if finally remembering that such a thing was indeed a function of her body, and sighed as she leaned back in her swivel chair. Her back made several resounding popping noises that weren’t entirely unpleasant. With a grimace, she massaged a searing tightness in her left shoulder, and cursed herself for once again forgetting her posture. She slouched badly when distracted — and well, it was hard to remain exactly riveted when one had to review the same case file with a fine-toothed comb over and over again ad nauseam.
Feyre pushed her chair back farther from her desk and treated herself to a quick stretch. Still seated, leaning her back as far into the chair as she thought she could go without risking it tipping over. (Not that it had ever happened before. Of course not.) She even dared to bring her arms over her head and let the muscles in her shoulders stretch themselves out. Imagined herself as a vine reaching for a few precious rays of sunlight.
The chair creaked pathetically beneath her movements. Like most of the furniture that decorated the glorified supply closet she called her office, it was sad, cheap, and sagging. And gray. This was a very gray space, despite her feeble attempts to give the room a little color so she wouldn’t go insane in here. But when she’d accepted this position, she’d only had enough money on hand to cover purchasing a new, more professional wardrobe for herself, and had promised herself she’d make do furnishing the space they’d given her with whatever chairs and futons she’d had leftover from her law school-era apartment. Clearly, it hadn’t worked, and the result was ramshackle and stripped of identity. Anyone could occupy this space, and you’d have no idea who they were just from looking around at it.
Certainly nothing in this room, with its eggshell walls and windows too far up to let in any quantifiable amount of light, could compete with the shiny baubles and fucking velvet chaises decorating her boss, Beron Vanserra’s office. But seeing as he’d owned this firm for twenty years now, Feyre supposed that was to be expected. He’d had time and experience (and certainly, he’d had wealth well before even becoming a lawyer) that had helped him arrive at such a level of comfort.
She’d only been with Vanserra & Co. for about a year now — a shorter time than anyone else here, still the newbie so far. But in that time, she’d only scarcely seen Beron emerge from behind the doors to his office, although she saw various suit-wearing types popping in and out regularly during the weeks for scheduled meetings. Or evil scheming, or whatever it was they all did in there.
Enigmatic figure that he was, it seemed like everyone in the firm was constantly feuding for Beron’s attention. A few months ago, when he’d wanted a younger, fresher face to help handle a particularly time-consuming pharmaceutical company merger, it had been practically a bloodbath. Feyre couldn’t help but chuckle at the memory. You would’ve thought he was standing in front of a chocolate factory, waving around a fucking Golden Ticket, she thought, shaking her head. Though it wouldn’t be entirely truthful if she said she hadn’t been interested in the opportunity, too.
Of course, none of them had been surprised when that had gone to Rhysand. He was one of the best younger hires here, even if it physically pained Feyre to admit it.
Didn’t stop him from being a dickhead, though.
Her fingers curled into fists in her lap as her memories traveled inexorably to just a few months ago, to the office holiday party. The glitter of Christmas lights in the background, Frank Sinatra crooning over the speakers, and the look in Rhysand’s eyes as he’d sauntered up to her. She tried not to think of the conversation they’d had that night too often. Tried even harder to ignore the sudden dryness in her throat whenever she remembered what he’d looked like from up close, the way his violet stare had pinned her to the spot.
The way he always seemed to see her. Not through her, but directly into her, as if all her secret vulnerabilities and passions and thoughts were splayed out on an open table for him to observe. But there was never any eagerness in that steady gaze, no — just a curiosity, as if he were patient and content enough to study all of her from afar. As if that were all it would take to parse out the truth of her, because perhaps he already understood it.
She hated him a little bit for that.
Feyre pushed herself out of her seat, needing to banish thoughts of Rhysand as quickly as they’d settled onto her. She hated giving him that power, making him someone that could reduce her to a pacing, fretting thing. She told herself instead that she just needed to stand after hunching over her computer for so long — and anyway, as she glanced at the clock, she realized that it was just about time for her to wrap up here and head home.
So, as luck would have it, standing was necessary and not at all a byproduct of being hung-up and moony over her obnoxious coworker.
She snatched her coat from where she’d draped it over the futon on her way in this morning — she should probably get a coat rack, would it be more professional to have a coat rack? Pulling it on and gathering her things, she headed for the door and gave the room a final cursory glance. Computer turned off, notes all tucked away and ready to last the weekend in this dark little hole of an office. It was as good as it was ever going to get. Satisfied, Feyre nodded to herself and headed out for the evening, locking the door behind her on the way.
The building was quiet this evening, the assorted desks and sofas and squat little modern chairs casting tall, thin shadows along the walls. Now that she’d stepped out into the common area (which actually had windows, she thought bitterly) she could see it was nearly full dark outside.
Fuck. Had she really stayed so late? She was lucky the cleaning crew hadn’t locked her in.
Huffing an exasperated sigh, she headed for the elevators, trying her best not to think about how spectacularly creepy this place looked at night. Like a ghost town, or something out of a post-apocalyptic movie. As she reached the elevator doors, she slammed the button, and told herself she wasn’t being frantic, just efficient. She hugged her coat closer to her body and bounced restlessly on the balls of her feet. It seemed chillier in here with all the people gone.
She hardly even noticed anyone was behind her until she heard a familiar voice drawl, “Funny seeing you here, Archeron.”
Well, you know what they say, Feyre, she thought to herself. Speak of the devil . . .
Stomach fluttering, Feyre slowly turned around and came face-to-face with the very man she’d hoped to avoid all day. In all his smirking, arrogant glory.
“Hello, Rhysand,” she sighed, fixing him with a saccharine smile so tight that her teeth ground together. “You do realize I work here too, right?”
He returned her smile with one of his own, something like wicked amusement dancing in his eyes. “And how am I supposed to forget that? I think you’ll find someone as charming as yourself tends to be remembered, whether you want to or not.” Somehow, he made it sound as if it were both a compliment and insult in the same breath.
“Yeah. Okay. Thanks for that, I guess,” she snorted.
“An actual thank you from Feyre Archeron? Oh, day of days!”
She barely managed to reign in an eye-roll at the sarcasm dripping from his voice. Still, something lightly teasing in his words tugged at the corners of her lips, made her tempted to crack the barest traces of an amused smirk. She fought it, stifled the instinct to laugh, and instead folded her arms protectively across her chest. He spoke to her like he knew her, like . . . like they were actually friends.
Was that what they were? After that night at the holiday party, were they anything at all anymore? Or were things between them forever destined to just hover in this strange, uncomfortable stagnation, both of them tiptoeing around it?
Feyre cast a quick glance over her shoulder at the elevator. Of course, it had to choose tonight, of all nights, to be so damn slow. When she returned her gaze to Rhysand, though, his expression had relaxed into careful neutrality — as if he were indeed simply waiting for the elevator, just like her, and didn’t intend to cause her any further trouble. In his hands he clutched a sleek black briefcase — which matched his equally-sleek black suit. His raven-feather hair gleamed oily blue-black in the low light.
“Working on something important tonight?” he said at last, making small talk when the silence had drawn on just long enough to edge into discomfort.
Feyre blinked, bemused by the question, then realized. “Oh — oh, no, not really. I mean, yes, I guess it is, but not . . . I don’t know, not important enough for me to have spent this much time on it. I don’t know why I stayed so late tonight. I don’t usually fall into my work like that.”
“You’re meticulous,” he said, and she couldn’t quite determine if it was a simple observation or if he’d intended to flatter her with it. “When you really care about something, that is. You hold yourself to high standards.”
Enough heat rushed to her cheeks that Feyre ducked her head slightly, hoping the curtain of her auburn hair would block him from seeing how deeply his words had resonated. Even if he’d just meant it as a passing detail he’d noticed, it had hit with more certainty than he knew. They’d worked on a few cases together in the past, but she hadn’t really thought he’d even paid attention to anything like that.
At last, the elevator gave a feeble ding to announce its arrival. The doors slid lethargically open, and Feyre tried to ignore their metal whining as she stepped in. Only four floors, and then she’d be out again. She’d always hated elevators, but especially this thing — though the rest of the office was fairly nice and new, this elevator was old and unreliable and finicky. Hopefully the trip to the lobby wouldn’t take as long as it had taken for it to get up here in the first place.
Rhysand trailed in after her, and the doors closed behind his back. Inside the elevator, the lighting was a sallow yellow, a single flickering bulb over their heads. The floors beneath them were fraying carpet, and the walls were plastered with posters advertising all the varied and oh-so-exciting things one could pursue legal action for. Beron Vanserra’s grinning face leered at her from one of them. She tried not to make eye contact with it for too long.
“What about you?” Feyre finally asked. “Were you working on anything, er—” she made a vague gesture with her hand, “—special?”
Rhysand gave a snort of derision.
“You could say that,” he said. “Although I suspect it serves Beron’s interests more than my own.”
Feyre shrugged, but didn’t bother asking him to elaborate. After all, no one in the office was at all surprised whenever Rhysand got handed these flashy, fancy assignments. In comparison, she supposed her menial work was embarrassing, juvenile. She tried not to bristle at the thought.
Before either of them could say anything else, the elevator gave a shudder beneath their feet. Groaned in protest like some slumbering beast that had woken up to discover them resting in its mouth. There was a piercing clanking noise, the squeal of metal on cables — above them, the light flickered on and off so quickly that it was nearly dizzying — Feyre’s hand shot out to the nearest wall to keep herself steady —
— and with a thud, the elevator came to a grinding halt in the middle of its track, before it could reach the ground floor.
Shit,” Rhysand cursed colorfully, his voice right by Feyre’s ear, holding her steady as if he’d —
— he’d reached out to keep her from falling or injuring herself.
Feyre opened her mouth, nearly too stunned to speak, but before any words could tumble out, the light overhead flickered one last time.
And then went out entirely.
Their breaths rasped noisily in the heavy darkness, both of them holding as still as possible in case the slightest movement sent them careening out of control again. Rhysand’s hand still pressed against the curve of her waist, holding her steady in the dark. She found herself only dimly aware of the heat of his touch. But at that moment, it wasn’t an entirely unwelcome sensation. In fact, Feyre felt rather grateful someone else was here with her.
Grateful that she wasn’t alone, because . . .
“Oh my god,” she finally breathed, her voice a thin wobble. “Oh my god, we’re stuck in here.”
How had she never noticed what a tight space this was before? And now that it was so dark that she could barely even tell if her eyes were open, now that it was difficult to even see her hands in front of her face . . . her chest tightened, hands shaking at her sides.
“Take a deep breath,” Rhysand told her, his voice carefully smooth, as if he were doing his best to hold back his own worries for her sake. “It’s going to be alright. Hang on just a second, okay, Feyre?”
Feyre nodded, too consumed with the cold creep of anxiety in the pit of her stomach to bother with quipping back at him about whether or not he had the right to boss her around. And slowly, purposefully, she did as he said, drawing in a deep, shaky breath. As she exhaled on a shudder, she found herself still sick with needle-sharp worry, but the sensation had dulled somewhat. As if she could hold it at bay for just a little longer.
She heard rather than saw Rhys fumble in the darkness. Then, in the next instant, a square of light blossomed between them, bathing the elevator car in the white-blue shine of the flashlight on his cell phone. The light cast his features into stark relief, his eyes flashing at her across the distance.
“At least now we can see,” he murmured. “Hold tight. I’m going to try and get the emergency button working, see if we can call anybody with that. I don’t think my phone has enough bars in here on its own.”
Feyre nodded shakily, raking her fingers through her hair. “Fuck,” she exhaled under her breath. Then again, a bit louder: “Fuck! I can’t believe this fucking happened to me!”
From over where he stood fiddling with the elevator buttons, Rhys gave a low chuckle. “Quite a mouth on you,” he said, as if he found this endlessly amusing. “Are you sure that’s workplace appropriate?”
Feyre muttered something darkly under her breath in response that she hoped Rhysand couldn’t hear — something about “working this foot up your ass” that she was sure he wouldn’t appreciate.
Or maybe he would, given how exceedingly funny he’d seemed to find her cursing.
Whatever Rhys did seemed to work, and the elevator filled with the staticky, distinctly pathetic sound of the emergency button dialing rescue services for them. She willed herself to feel at least a little relief to take the edge off those razor-sharp nerves. At least now there would be people who knew they were here, who were coming to get them.
When someone answered on the other end of the line, he explained to them smoothly, calmly, what had happened. Perhaps Feyre would have felt compelled to interject on her own, but she was still too shaken — too focused on keeping her lunch from earlier down in her stomach where it belonged. On any other occasion, she might have bristled at the idea of letting Rhysand take the reins, but in this case, she didn’t mind relinquishing responsibility. Especially since it was just now starting to feel as if she could breathe normally again.
Of course this would happen with Rhysand, of all people, here with her. Of course he would have to see her like this, so . . . vulnerable. So afraid. Because it wouldn’t have been easier for her at all to have just been able to keep him at a distance, after all this time. No, she couldn’t have that.
“They’ll be on their way soon,” he told her, standing from where he’d crouched near the emergency button and making his way back over to her. “In the meantime . . . I suppose we might as well get comfortable, hm?”
He sighed, then looked up. And, as if noticing her face for the first time:
“Feyre,” he said. “Are you alright?”
Feyre glanced up from where she’d been pointedly studying her shoes, concentrating on anything but the way the world seemed to sway dizzily around her. Rhysand’s eyes searched her face, something she thought looked startlingly close to genuine concern furrowing his brow. She swallowed hard past the lump in her throat, gave a few stilted little nods. Tried for a wan little smile that even she could tell didn’t quite reach her eyes.
“I’m — yes, I’m fine,” she finally managed. “I just — ah, this is embarrassing . . . I don’t do tight spaces. It, uh, freaks me out a little.”
Something barely perceptible in his expression softened, and Feyre’s stomach twisted. Great. Now she supposed he’d pity her or something. Still, she held his gaze, refusing to give him the satisfaction of seeing her entirely crumble before him. Help would be on the way soon, as he’d said — she only needed to endure this for a while longer. She could manage that.
She could manage being here with him, all those words unsaid lingering much too heavily in the air between them.
“In that case,” he said, settling into a crouch, and then lowering himself fully into a sitting position on the elevator floor. “Why don’t you take a seat by me? We’ll talk about something else to pass the time. Keep your mind off of it until they get here to let us out.” He patted the empty space beside him. “Unfortunately, this is the one day I neglected to bring snacks with me to work, so . . . we’ll have to go hungry for now, but at least I’m never short on sparkling conversation.” And then he winked at her, a conspirator’s grin on his tan face.
Despite herself, a smile twitched at the edges of Feyre’s mouth, a dry laugh huffing from her almost involuntarily. “I think I have some old Tic-Tacs in the bottom of my purse,” she said. “I guess if we start starving to death in here, we’ll have those to fall back on.”
His laugh in return was surprisingly warm, a richer, freer sound than she’d expected from someone who she’d scarcely ever heard speak about anything other than work. Maybe that alone was enough to convince her — or maybe she was just frightened and desperate for anything to steer her thoughts away from this literal nightmare scenario she’d wandered into. Whatever the reason, Feyre didn’t care to think too deeply on it as she at last relented, and lowered herself onto the floor at Rhysand’s side.
“Even if we are trapped in here,” he sighed when she’d settled into place, “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t happy for the chance to talk to you, anyway. It feels like it’s been forever since . . . since we were able to just talk.”
She didn’t miss how his eyes found hers towards the end of his sentence, nor the beat of silence that passed between them afterward that felt just a bit too significant and pointed for her to completely ignore. Feyre cleared her throat, swallowed unevenly. Anything to avoid answering, to not think about the last time they’d been so close, the way she’d thought for a moment or two that — that he might have even kissed her —
With a shiver she hoped was too small for Rhysand to see in the dark, she nodded and said, “Yeah. I’ve just been really busy. You know how it is.”
The knowing smile on his face said he didn’t buy it for a second, but he humored her. “Of course. But I don’t want to waste these precious few minutes talking shop with you, Feyre darling. Why don’t you tell me what else has been going on lately?”
“What else?” she repeated blankly.
“Sure,” said Rhys. “You must have what we like to call a life outside of that sad excuse for an office. I’d like to hear about it. Know more about what interests you outside of writing brilliant contracts and reviewing case files.”
She tried to ignore the way the subtle, casual compliment — brilliant contracts, spoken as smoothly as if it were an irrefutable fact. Tried, and failed, to ignore the way it sang all the way through her, resonating to the bone. She’d always thought that her work, her meticulous attention to detail, had gone relatively unnoticed. Why had it never occurred to her that Rhys would have kept a close eye on it — would have not only remembered, but respected, the effort she put into it all?
“Well . . .” she said with a shrug, hating the way her sentence trailed off so sadly. She might as well have had a big, blinking I HAVE NO LIFE OR FRIENDS OUTSIDE OF MY WORKPLACE sign strapped to her forehead. When was the last time she had allowed herself to be truly happy, to lift her nose from her desk and take joy in the world around her? “Um, I went to a painting class a few weeks ago.”
Maybe the answer was embarrassing and stupid, maybe something like that was nothing to be proud of at all. But it was something — more importantly, it was the last time she could remember really caring about something outside of work. The last time she’d really felt free to express the tangled mess of jumbled-up emotion in the pit of her stomach, to get it out onto a blank canvas and leave some sort of indelible mark upon the world. It was no masterpiece, but she’d created it, and that was enough.
Before landing this job — before getting into law school, really — she’d painted almost constantly. Her tiny apartment that had seen her so bravely through all the drama of undergrad had been cluttered nearly to the brim with filled-up canvases and painting supplies, vivid and bursting with color. Ideas had come to her as naturally as breathing, and back then she’d had the time and energy to devote to nurturing them as they came up.
Now, whenever she tried to reach for the part of her that wanted to paint again, it was like reaching down into an empty hole, her fingers digging up nothing but dust. And occasionally there would be a glimmer, the barest hint of inspiration, but work and the obligations of day-to-day life would stifle it. It was always later now, I’ll do it later, paint it later, but when later inevitably rolled around, she was too exhausted or distracted to devote any time to anything beyond surviving.
She missed the feeling that creating had given her. And wanted it back more than anything. But to admit that to Rhys . . . she wasn’t sure if she could yet.
“That’s good,” Rhys said, and he genuinely seemed to mean it. “I remember you mentioned it before — the painting. Making time for things like that is important when you work that hard.” He seemed to think about it for a moment, then added, “What sort of things do you like to paint?”
Feyre blinked, nonplussed. She wasn’t sure if anyone had actually asked her about that before. Most peoples’ eyes tended to start glazing over the minute she started talking about painting.
“Uh, well, I usually like to go for a more impressionistic style. I like the suggestion of something, rather than a realistic interpretation. Like . . . like whatever moment or subject I’m depicting, it isn’t there anymore, and I’m . . . I’m just painting the mark it left behind.” She gave a soft chuckle. “Sorry. That probably sounds confusing and weird and . . .” her voice trailed off, and she shook her head. “Sorry.”
“No — please, don’t apologize,” said Rhys. “I mean it. I like hearing about your process. I’m not much of an artist, myself. Creative people fascinate me in that way. My cousin Mor, she designs dresses for a living — talks my ear off about it all the time. I’m sure she’d froth at the mouth to have you as her captive audience,” he laughed.
Feyre couldn’t help it, and smiled at the idea. “She sounds great,” she said. “Especially if she really annoys you as much as it seems.”
“I’m sure she’d be thrilled to know you said that.”
“Then by all means, tell her for me.”
They fell into laughter again, the sound soft and quiet in the darkness of the elevator. Feyre found herself surprised by it — the warmth of the moment. The ease and comfort of the two of them sitting together, just talking. Perhaps she’d missed his company these past few months a bit more than she’d initially realized.
And from there, it was as if they’d never had a disagreement before at all. Talking was so easy — so natural — that they fell into conversation without any struggle whatsoever. Just chatting about whatever happened to come to mind: work drama they’d both witnessed from the sidelines, cringe-inducing jokes they’d overheard in the break room, even down to the new television shows they’d been watching. It was pleasant, maybe even something close to fun, though she wasn’t sure if she’d admit that.
Somehow, it seemed as if she’d known Rhysand for much longer than a year; and even so, she got the sense that there was more to learn. And, in spite of herself, she wanted to know it all. Wanted to take the time to find it all out.
Eventually, their conversation slowed to a natural, comfortable silence. Still, as their laughter died out, something about the air between them became charged. Somehow, she sensed without even asking that his thoughts had traveled to a similar place to her own — and she wasn’t entirely sure if that frightened her or not. Perhaps a small, hidden part of her wanted to know that Rhysand had missed her, delighted in the fact that he, too, seemed to be wondering whether or not this tiptoeing around what they both refused to talk about was worth it. It comforted her, on some strange level, to imagine that the words she so desperately wanted to say were just on the tip of his tongue, too.
It was Rhysand who broke the silence, as if that pressing quiet was too much for him to stand. “I just want you to take care of yourself, Feyre,” he murmured, as if it were some secret confession. “I know I might not always have given you reason to believe that—” here he huffed a laugh, full of irony, “—but it’s true. I just . . . hm. Let’s just say this place would be much too boring without you.”
Feyre looked down at her lap. Carefully studied her interlaced fingers. “Rhys . . .” she whispered, unable to bring herself to say anything else. Unable to trust what might come out if she did.
“Look, just . . . don’t forget to take time to care for yourself, too, okay?” he said at last, his tone lightening a bit. “Work is one thing, but . . . you deserve to do the things that make you happy. Without any guilt or shame for it.”
The smile returned to her face, this time as its own rueful shadow. It was a nice sentiment, to be sure, but . . . “Yeah, well, find me the time and energy to do something more than just work, and maybe I’ll consider it.”
Rhys elbowed her, but the movement was gentle, teasing. “Alright, smartass. Maybe I’ll just have to take you to a painting class myself sometime.”
Feyre snorted, her grin becoming more genuine now. “Yeah, okay. I’ll believe that when I see it, Rhysand.”
She could sense him working up a reply, and nearly opened her mouth to interrupt him before he could get it out — but both of them were stunned into silence as the lights flickered overhead, and, miraculously, sprung back on. Feyre squinted, eyes struggling to adjust to the sudden change in lighting, even as relief flooded her stomach.
They were getting out — the rescue crew had gotten here, they were finally going to fix this fucking thing!
It was more of an effort than she thought it would be to be happy about it — to not think about the fact that she didn’t know when she’d next get an excuse to talk to Rhysand again. Not just the two of them, like it was tonight.
She didn’t want to think too much about why she even wanted that to begin with. After all, she hated Rhys. Hadn’t she just been thinking earlier about how obnoxious and insufferable he was? No, it certainly wouldn’t be much of a loss.
When at last they’d been pulled from the gaping maw of the elevator, the doors hauled open so they could wriggle their way between them, she made her best effort to avoid direct eye contact with Rhysand. Speaking with him so candidly in the darkness had been one thing, but in the harsh lighting of the now-deserted parking garage, she felt too bare under his gaze. Too raw from everything she’d revealed, embarrassed by the vulnerabilities she’d laid before his feet. They’d gone back into the real world now, and . . . well, she’d have to work hard to draw those lines back again.
Even if she maybe didn’t entirely mind that they’d been crossed.
“Do you need me to walk you to your car?” Rhysand asked, breath fogging out in front of his face. The face that had been, mere minutes ago, so close to hers in the darkness. Feyre shook her head mutely, and he answered, “Alright. Then . . . take care. And if you don’t mind, shoot me a text when you get home safely?”
A card from his pocket, pressed into her hands. His number scrawled on it, the warmth of his hand still bleeding into the paper. Feyre’s fingers curled around it, and she nodded again, pointedly ignoring the heat blazing in her cheeks.
His fingers gave hers one last tiny, barely-there squeeze before he allowed his hand to fall to his side again. “It was good talking to you tonight.”
“Yeah,” she breathed, finally allowing her eyes to meet his. “You too, Rhys. I’ve . . .” Well, she might regret it, but screw it, wasn’t she on some kind of honesty streak, anyway? It would be a shame to break it. “I think I’ve missed you lately.”
Something unreadable flickered in his gaze, and the corner of his mouth lifted slightly in its usual crooked grin. This time tinged with something strangely close to sadness, something that made her stomach twist inside her.
“Goodnight, Feyre.”

Media Market Research (and why its undermining all the things you love)
Trying to understand what is dysfunctional about Hollywood is an epic task, and the answers are like the stars – arguably infinite. Hollywood is dysfunctional for literally more reasons than I could count.
But market research plays a fairly heavy role in its dysfunction (IMO) and the time has finally come for me to add my professional two cents about this issue. (This rant of mine has been building for a while, FYI. Hence why it is so...comprehensive. There is a tl;dr section towards the bottom, if you want the high level summary)
*** For the last 4+ years I’ve worked in the field of market research, almost exclusively with major media makers like Warner Bros., NBCU, AMC/BBCA, Viacom, FOX (before Disney acquired them), A+E, etc. (this past year I quit the job where I was doing this work for a variety of reasons, many of which will become clear as you keep reading, but I am still listed as a consultant on the company website):   https://www.kresnickaresearch.com/who/ (Rachel)
And just for comparison, here is a Halloween selfie I took 4 years ago and posted on my blog, so you can see I am who I say I am.
I know a fair amount about how market research on major media franchises is conducted and how it influences production, and a lot of these choices can also be at least somewhat tied back to the massive flaws in the market research industry and its impact. *** First, at the highest level, you need to understand market research in general is not well-conducted much of the time. Even the people doing a reasonably good job at it are VERY limited in doing it well because of financial constraints (clients don’t want to spend more than they have to), time constraints (clients want everything done as fast as humanely possible) and just the inherent problems within the industry that are decades old and difficult to fix. For example, all market research ‘screens’ participants to make sure they qualify to participate (whether it is a mass survey, a focus group, a one-on-one interview, etc.). So, we screen people based on demographics like race, gender, age, household income, to get representative samples. But people are also screened based on their consumption habits. You don’t want to bring someone into a focus group about reality TV if they don’t watch reality TV. They aren’t going to have anything useful to say.
However, a lot of the people who participate in market research have made a ‘side-gig’ out of it and they know how to finesse the process. Basically, they’ve learned how to lie to get into studies that they aren’t a good match for because most market research is paid, and they want the money. So, a lot of TV and film market research is being done on people who don’t actually (or at least don’t regularly) watch those shows or movies or whatever but have learned how to lie well enough in these screening processes to make it through. And because of the aforementioned time and money issue, clients don’t want to spend the time or money to actually find GOOD participants. They just accept that as an inevitable part of the market research process and decide not to let it bother them too much. So, a fair number of the people representing YOU as a media consumer are people who may not be watching Supernatural (for example) at all or who watch a rerun occasionally on TNT but haven’t been watching consistently or with ANY amount of investment whatsoever. You can see why that creates very skewed data. But that’s just the tip of the skewed iceberg. *** Second, media market research is conducted in line with the norms of market research more broadly, and this is a huge problem because media is a very atypical product. How people engage with media is far more complex and in depth than how they engage with a pair of jeans, a car, or a coffee maker. There are only so many things that matter to people when it comes to liking or not liking a coffee maker, for example. Is it easy/intuitive to use? How much space does it take it on my counter? How expensive is it? Does it brew the coffee well? Maybe does it match my décor/kitchen aesthetic? Can I make my preferred brand of coffee in it? The things you as a consumer are going to care about when it comes to a coffee maker are limited, fairly easy to anticipate in advance, and also easy to interpret (usually). How people mentally and emotionally approach MEDIA? Whole other universe of thing. Infinitely more complex. And yet it is studied (more or less) as if it is also a coffee maker. This is one of the many reasons I decided to leave the media market research field despite my desire to have some ability to positively influence the process. As so often seems to be the case, I fought the law and the law won. I could never make the other people I worked with in the industry understand that the questions they were asking were not all that useful a lot of the time and they weren’t getting to the heart of the matter. They were just following industry standards because they didn’t know any better and none of them want to admit they don’t REALLY know what they’re doing. Which leads me to point 3. *** Most of the people doing this research don’t have any expertise in media or storytelling specifically. They are typically trained as social scientists in the fields of psychology, anthropology, sociology, or math/statistics. And many of them do not have any kind of specialization or education in media/storytelling beyond the English classes they took in high school and the one Media Studies course they took as an elective in college. Most of them have a very unsophisticated understanding of narrative structure, thematics, tropes, subtext, etc. They mainly think in terms of genres at the VERY broadest level. Also, not infrequently, they don’t watch or have much knowledge of the shows they are supposed to be doing research on, beyond what they’ve read on IMDb or Wikipedia or what is generally common knowledge. Unless they by chance happen to watch the shows themselves (which often they don’t) they often know very little about the shows they are crafting these questions about. Again, partly because they think it is like the coffee maker, and you don’t need to understand it in any depth to research it. (I know this must sound insane to you as avid media consumers, but that is the general attitude among those who do market research) There is such a lack of sophistication in how people in the business side of the industry understand media and storytelling. Most of them are either MBAs or social scientists and their training has not prepared them to examine fictional works with the kind of depth that people in the Humanities (who are specifically trained to study texts) have. Somehow, despite the fact that the Humanities is all about understanding texts, that is the one discipline they make almost no use of in the business side of Hollywood. And boy howdy does it show. *** Point 4 – average consumers CANNOT ARTICULATE WHY THEY LIKE THINGS. Particularly media things. I know this sounds condescending, but it is my honest observation. It is unbelievably hard to get people to have enough self-awareness to explain why they actually like things, especially things as mentally and emotionally complex as media. What typically happens when you ask people why they like a TV show or movie, for example? They will tell you what they most NOTICE about the TV show or movie, or what is distinctive to them about it (which may or may not have anything to do with what they actually LIKE about it). They will say things like “I like the genre”, “I think it’s funny”, “The car chases are exciting”, “I want to see the detective solve the puzzle.” Sometimes you can get them to talk about what they find relatable about it, if you push them a little. But often they leave it at either the level of literal identity (young black woman), basic personality traits (she’s a social butterfly and so am I) or situations they’ve personally experienced (I relate to this story of a man losing his father to cancer because I lost a close family member to cancer). But the vast, vast, vast majority of them can’t go to the deeper level of: a) Why X representation of a young black woman feels accurate/authentic/relatable and Y representation doesn’t b) Why it matters to me that X,Y,Z aspects of my personality, identity, experience get reflected in media whereas I don’t really care about seeing A,B,C aspects of my personality, identity, or experience reflected in media c) How and why they are relating to characters when they can’t see the literal connection between their identity/experience and the character’s identity/experience. (For example, many people have argued that women often relate to Dean Winchester because a lot of his struggles and past negative experiences are more stereotypical of women – being forced to raise a younger sibling on behalf of an actual parent, being seen and treated as beautiful/sexually desirable but vacuous/unintelligent, his body being treated as an instrument for a more powerful group to quite literally possess, etc. Part of the reason Supernatural has always been such a mystery/problem for the CW and Warner Bros is they could never crack the code at this level. Never.) Part of the reason they can’t crack these codes is average people CANNOT give you that kind of feedback in a survey or a focus group, or even an in-depth interview (much of the time). They just don’t have the self-awareness or the vocabulary to get it at that level. Let alone asking them to articulate why Game of Thrones is compelling to them in an era where wealth disparity is creating a ruling class that is fundamentally incompetent at maintaining a just/functional society, which is especially concerning at this particular moment, given the existential threat we face due to climate change. And the truth is, that IS part of what people – even average people – are responding to in Game of Thrones. But what they’ll tell you when you do market research on it is: they like the dragons, they like the violence, they relate to Tyrion Lannister being a smart mouth, maybe they’ll say they like the moral ambiguity of many of the conflicts (if they are more sophisticated than average). But the ‘Dean Winchester is heavily female coded despite his veneer of ultra-masculinity’ or the ‘Game of Thrones is a prescient metaphor for the current political dynamics and fissures of modern western society’ is the level you ACTUALLY need to get to. And most market research can’t get you that because the people ASKING the questions don’t know what to ask to get to this level, and most of the respondents couldn’t give you the answers even IF you were asking them the right questions (which usually you are not) And I’m not saying average people are dumb because they can’t do this. But it requires practice, it requires giving the matter a great deal of in-depth thought, and most people just don’t care enough about it to do that while taking a market research survey. (I know this is going to feel counter-intuitive to people on Tumblr. But you have to remember, you are NOT average media consumers. You are highly atypical media consumers who have far more self-awareness and a much more sophisticated engagement with media than the average person watching TV. If you didn’t, you probably wouldn’t be here talking about it in the first place) Point 4.1 – People also lie/misrepresent their own experiences to market researchers because they want to maintain certain self-narratives. You have no idea how many people would get disqualified from our surveys for saying they watched less than 5 hours of TV a week. And sure, that might actually be true for a few of them. But if you watch TV with any regularity at all (which most people in modern America do) you probably watch more than 5 hours a week. The problem is, people think it makes them sound lazy to say they watch 15-20 hours a week, even though that’s about 2-3 hours a day (which actually isn’t THAT high). People lie and misrepresent their behaviors, thoughts and feelings because it can be socially uncomfortable to admit you do what you actually do or feel how you actually feel, even in the context of an anonymous survey, let alone a focus group or a one-on-one interview. People want to make themselves look good to THEMSELVES and to the researchers asking them questions. But that makes the market research data on media (and lots of other things) very questionable. For example, one finding we saw more than once in the surveys I was involved in conducting was people would radically downplay how much the romance elements of a story mattered to them, even large portions of female respondents. When we would ask people in surveys what parts of the story they were most invested in, romances ALWAYS came out among the lowest ranked elements. And yet, any passing familiarity with fandom would tell you that finding is just WRONG. It’s wrong. People are just flat out lying about how much that matters to them because of the negative connotations we have around being invested in romance. And never mind the issue of erotic/sexual content. (I don’t mean sexual identity here, I mean sexy content). The only people who will occasionally cop to wanting the erotic fan service is young men (and even they are hesitant to do so in market research) and women frequently REFUSE to admit that stuff in market research, or they radically downplay how much it matters to them and in what ways. There is still so much stigma towards women expressing sexuality in that way. Not to mention, you have to fight tooth and nail to even include question about erotic/sexual content because oftentimes the clients don’t even want to go there at all, partly because it is awkward for everyone involved to sit around crafting market research questions to interrogate what makes people hot and bothered. That’s socially awkward for the researchers doing the research and the businesspeople who have to sit in rooms and listen to presentations about why more women find Spock sexier than Kirk. (Which was a real thing that happened with the original Star Trek, and the network couldn’t figure out why) Aside from people not have enough deeper level self-awareness to get at what they really like about media content, they also will lie or misrepresent certain things to you because they are trying to maintain certain self-narratives and are socially performing that version of themselves to researchers. *** Point 5 – Qualitative data is way more useful for understanding people’s relationships to media. However, quantitative data is way more valued and relied upon both due to larger market research industry standards and because quantitative data is just seen as harder/more factual than qualitative data. A lot of media market research involves gathering both qualitative and quantitative data and reporting jointly on both. (Sometimes you only do one or the other, depending on your objectives, but doing both is considered ‘standard’ and higher quality). However, quantitative data is heavily prioritized in reporting and when there is a conflict between what they see in qualitative versus quantitative data, the quant data is usually relied upon to be the more accurate of the two. This is understandable to an extent, because quantitative surveys usually involve responses from a couple thousand participants, whereas qualitative data involves typically a few dozen participants at most, depending on whether you did focus groups, individual interviews, or ‘diaries’/ethnography. The larger sample is considered more reliable and more reflective of ‘the audience’ as a whole. However, quantitative surveys usually have the flattest, least nuanced data, and they can only ever reflect what questions and choices people in the survey were given. In something like focus groups or individual interviews or ethnographies, you still structure what you ask people, but they can go “off script.” They can say things you never anticipated (as a researcher) and can explain themselves and their answers with more depth. In a survey, participants can only “say” what they survey lets them say based on the questions and question responses that are pre-baked for them. And as I’ve already explained, a lot of times these quantitative surveys are written by people with no expertise in media, fiction, or textual analysis, and so they often are asking very basic, not very useful questions. In sum, the data that is the most relied upon is the least informative, least nuanced data. It is also the MOST likely to reflect the responses of people who don’t actually qualify for the research but have become good at scamming the system to make extra money. With qualitative research, they are usually a little more careful screening people (poorly qualified participants still make it through, but not as often as with mass surveys, where I suspect a good 35% of participants, at least, probably do not actually qualify for the research and are just working the system).
Most commonly, when market research gets reported to business decision-makers, it highlights the quantitative data, and uses the qualitative data to simply ‘color in’ the quantitative data. Give it a face, so to speak. Qualitative data is usually supplemental to quant data and used more to make the reports ‘fun’ and ‘warm’ because graphs and charts and stats by themselves are boring to look at in a meeting. (I’m not making this up, I can’t tell you how many times I was told to make adjustments on how things were reported on because they didn’t want to bore people in the meeting). (Sub-point – it is also worth noting that you can’t report on anything that doesn’t fit easily on a power point slide and isn’t easily digestible to any random person who might pick it up and read it. The amount of times I was told to simplify points and dumb things down so it could be made ‘digestible’ for a business audience, I can’t even tell you. It was soul crushing and another reason I stopped doing this job full time. I had to make things VERY dumb for these business audiences, which often meant losing a lot of the point I was actually trying to make) Point 5.1 – Because of the way that representative sampling works, quantitative data can be very misleading, particularly in understanding audience/fandom sentiments about media. As I’m sure most of you know, sampling is typically designed to be representative of the population, broadly speaking. So, unless a media company is specifically out to understand LGBTQ consumers or Hispanic/Latinx consumers, it will typically sample using census data as a template and represent populations that way. Roughly 50/50 male/female. Roughly even numbers in different age brackets, roughly representative samplings of the racial make-up of the country, etc. (FYI, they do often include a non-binary option in the gender category these days, but it usually ends up being like 5 people out of 2000, which is not enough of a sample to get statistical significance for them as a distinct group)   There is a good reason to do this, even when a show or movie has a disproportionately female audience, or young audience. Because they need enough sample in all of the “breaks” (gender, race, age, household income, etc.) to be able to make statistically sound statements about each subgroup. If you only have 35 African American people in your sample of 1000, you can’t make any statistically sound statements about that African American cohort. The sample is just too small. So, they force minimums/quotas in a lot of the samples, to ensure they can make statistically sound statements about all the subgroups they care about. They use ratings data to understand what their audience make up actually is. (Which also has major failings, but I’ll leave that alone for the minute) With market research, they are not usually looking to proportionately represent their audience, or their fandom; they are looking to have data they can break in the ways they want to break it and still have statistically significant subgroups represented. But that means that when you report on the data as a whole sample – which you often do – it can be very skewed towards groups who don’t make up as large a portion of the show’s actual audience, or even if they do, they don’t tend to be the most invested, loyal, active fans. Men get weighted equally to women, even when women make up 65% of the audience, and 80% of the active fandom. Granted, they DO break the data by gender, and race, and age, etc. and if there are major differences in how women versus men respond, or younger people versus older people, they want to know that...sometimes. But here’s where things get complex. So, if you are doing a sample of Supernatural viewers. And you do the standard (US census-based) sampling on a group of 2000 respondents (a pretty normal sample size in market research). ~1000 are going to be female. But with something they call “interlocking quotas” the female sample is going to be representative of the other groupings to a degree. So, the female sample will have roughly equal numbers of all the age brackets (13-17, 18-24, 25-34, etc.). And it will have roughly 10% non-heterosexual respondents, and so on. They do this to ensure that these breaks aren’t too conflated with each other. (For example, if your female sample is mostly younger and your male sample is mostly older, how do you know whether it is the gender or the age that is creating differences in their responses? You don’t. So, you have to make sure that all the individual breaks (gender, race, age) have a good mix of the other breaks within them, so groups aren’t getting conflated) But what that means is, Supernatural, whose core fandom is (at a conservative guess) 65% younger, queer, women, gets represented in a lot of statistical market research sampling as maybe 50-100 people, in a 2000-person survey. 50-100 people can barely move the needle on anything in a 2000-person survey. Furthermore, usually in the analysis of data like this, you don’t go beyond looking at 2 breaks simultaneously. So you may look at young female respondents as a group, or high income male respondents, or older white respondents, but you rarely do more than 2 breaks combined. And the reason for that is, by the time you get down to 3 breaks or more (young, Hispanic, women) you usually don’t have enough sample to make statistically significant claims. (It also just takes longer to do those analyses and as I explained in the beginning, they are always rushing this stuff). To do several breaks at a time you’d have to get MUCH larger samples, and that’s too expensive for them. And again, I want to stress, this type of sampling isn’t intended to sinisterly erase anyone. Kind of the opposite. It is intended to make sure most groups have enough representation in the data that you can make sound claims about them on the subgroup level. The problem is that it can create a very skewed sense of their overall audience sentiment when they take the data at ‘face value’ so to speak, and don’t weight segments based on viewership proportion, or fandom engagement, etc. Point 5.2 – Which leads me to my next point, which is that fandom activity that doesn’t have a dollar amount attached to it doesn’t make you a ‘valuable’ segment in their minds. One of the breaks they ALWAYS ask for in data like this is high income people, and people who spend a lot of MONEY on their media consumption. And they do prioritize those people’s responses and data quite a bit.   And guess what – young women aren’t usually high-income earners, and although some of them are high spenders on media, high spending on media and media related merch skews toward higher income people just because they HAVE more disposable income. Older white men are usually the highest income earners (absolutely no surprise) and they are more likely in a lot of cases to report spending a lot on the media they care about. Having expendable income makes you more important in the eyes of people doing market research than if you’ve spent every day for the last 10 years blogging excessively about Supernatural. They don’t (really) care about how much you care. They care about how much money you can generate for them. And given that young audiences don’t watch TV live anymore, and they give all their (minimal) expendable income to Netflix and Hulu, you with your Supernatural blog and your 101 essays about Destiel is all but meaningless to many of them (from a business standpoint) Now, some of them kind of understand that online fandom matters to the degree that fandom spreads. Fandom creates fandom. But if the fandom you are helping to create is other young, queer women with minimal income who only watch Supernatural via Netflix, well, that’s of very limited value to them as well. I don’t want to suggest they don’t care about you at ALL. Nor do I want to suggest that the “they” we are talking about is even a cohesive “they.” Different people in the industry have different approaches to thinking about fandom, consumer engagement and strategy, market research and how it ought to be understood/used, and so on. They aren’t a monolith. BUT, they are, at the end of the day, a business trying to make money. And they are never going to place the value of your blogging ahead of the concrete income you can generate for them. (Also, highly related to my point about people lying, men are more likely to SAY they have higher incomes than they do, because it’s an ego thing for them. And women are more likely to downplay how much money they spend on ‘frivolous’ things like fandom because of the social judgement involved. Some of the money gender disparity you see in media market research is real, but some of it is being generated by the gender norms people are falsely enacting in market research– men being breadwinners, women wanting to avoid the stereotype of being frivolous with money) *** In sum/tl;dr: Point 1 – Market research in general is not well conducted because of a variety of constraints including time, money, and the historical norms of how the industry operates (e.g., there being a large subsection of almost professionalized respondents who know how to game the system for the financial incentives) Point 2 – Media is a highly atypical kind of product being studied more or less as if it were equivalent to a coffeemaker or a pair of jeans. Point 3 – Most of the people studying media consumption in the market research field have no expertise or background in media, film, narrative, storytelling, etc. They are primarily people who were trained as social scientists and statisticians, and they aren’t well equipped to research media properties and people’s deeper emotional attachment and meaning-making processes related to media properties. Point 4(etc.) – Average consumers typically don’t have enough self-awareness or the vocabulary to explain the deep, underlying reasons they like pieces of media. Furthermore, when participating in market research, people lie and misrepresent their thoughts, behaviors, and emotional responses for a variety of reasons including social awkwardness and preserving certain self-narratives like “I’m above caring about dumb, low-brow things like romance.” Point 5 (etc.) – Quantitative data is treated as way more meaningful, valuable, and ‘accurate’ than qualitative data, and this is a particular problem with media market research because of how varied and complex people’s reactions to media can be. Also, the nature of statistical sampling, and how it is done, can massively misrepresent audience sentiments toward media and fail to apprehend deeper fandom sentiments and dynamics. There is also a strong bias towards the responses of high income/high spending segments, which tend to be older and male and white. Side but important point – Research reports are written to be as entertaining and digestible as possible, which sounds nice in theory, but in practice it often means you lose much of the substance you are trying to communicate for the sake of not boring people or making them feel stupid/out of their depth. (Because god forbid you make some high-level corporate suit feel stupid) *** What can be done about this? Well, the most primary thing I would recommend is for you to participate in market research, particularly if you are American (there’s a lot of American bias in researching these properties, even when they have large international fanbases). However, some international market research is done and I recommend looking into local resources for participation, where ever you are. If you are American, there are now several market research apps you can download to your smart phone and participate in paid market research through (typically paid via PayPal). Things like dscout and Surveys On the Go. And I know there are more. You should also look into becoming panelists for focus groups, particularly if you live near a large metropolitan area (another bias in market research). Just Google it and you should be able to figure it out fairly easily. Again, it is PAID, and your perspective will carry a lot more weight when it is communicated via a focus group or a dscout project, versus when it is shouted on Twitter. However, that’s merely a Band-Aid on the bigger issue, which I consider to be the fact that businesspeople think the Humanities is garbage, even when they make their living off it. There is virtually no respect for the expertise of fictional textual analysis, or how it could help Hollywood make better content. And I don’t know what the fix is for that. I spent 4 years of my life trying to get these people to understand what the Humanities has to offer them, and I got shouted down and dismissed so many times I stopped banging my head against that wall. I gave up. They don’t listen, mostly because conceding to the value of deep-reading textual analysis as a way to make better content would threaten the whole system of how they do business. And I mean that literally. So many people’s jobs, from the market researchers to the corporate strategists to the marketing departments to the writers/creatives to the C-level executives, would have to radically shift both their thinking and their modes of business operation and the inertia of ‘that’s the way it’s always been done’ is JUST SO POWERFUL. I have no earthly idea how to stop that train, let alone shift it to an entirely different track. BTW, if you want the deeper level of analysis of why I can’t stop rewatching Moneyball now that it’s been added to Netflix, the above paragraph should give you a good hint

Viego Rant (villainy and character design and tragedy and all that jazz)
Introduction The more I think about Viego, League of Legends’ newest character, the more enamored I am with him as a villain (unrelated to his general sexiness, though that does tie in with what makes him such a good villain).
I’ve seen a lot of complaints about his design. The Ruined King, one of the greatest threats in Runeterra, the progenitor of the Shadow Isles, the lord of the undead, is finally released as a playable champion and he looks like this:
Tumblr media
People were expecting another Mordekaiser (who is similarly an undead king with a ghost army), a lich-tyrant clad in iron, decayed flesh peeling from an aged face. What we got was an angsty anime prettyboy, and it was infinitely better than the alternatives.
Lore Viego isn’t a conquering king. While his combat abilities are indeed badass, his personality is far from it. He’s a whiny brat and that’s incredible. He isn’t bent on world domination. His character arc revolves around just how human, how fallible he really is. For those unfamiliar with his lore, I’ll paraphrase it here:
Viego was the second son of a great king. Overshadowed by his brother and with no expectations upon him and near-limitless wealth, he wandered around being an idiot fuckboy for the vast majority of his formative years. Disaster struck when his brother died in an accident, and Viego took the throne with no training, no experience, and no desire to be king. He was a shitty king. The worst king. Just all-around apathetic. Gave zero shits. Can you blame him? It’s a lot of responsibility to be thrust upon someone who isn’t much more than a child, and with no preparation. He didn’t care about anything, that is, until he met Isolde. She was a poor seamstress, but he fell in love with her upon their first meeting. Together they ruled the country but it was really just them staring longingly into each others’ eyes. His allies were kinda fucking pissed about that, and one day an assassin came from Viego. The assassin fucked up and stabbed Isolde instead, and the poison on the blade made her fall gravely ill. As she lay in her bed, slowly dying, Viego went mad seeking a cure. He ravaged the land seeking any knowledge that might help, pouring all of his money into finding an antidote. He failed. As a last resort, he brought Isolde’s body to the Blessed Isles, a place rumored to be able to resurrect the dead. It worked, to an extent. Isolde’s wraith, confused, afraid, and angry at being ripped from the peace of death, unthinkingly stabbed Viego in the chest with his own magic sword, creating basically a magic nuke that turned the Blessed Isles into the domain of the undead. Viego resurrected as the king of the Shadow Isles some time later, having totally forgotten that Isolde killed him. He controls a big-ass ghost army, could probably beat up any living thing in a fight, and has evil ghost magic. Now this stupid simp wants his wife back and if he has to kill every living thing on Runeterra, well, anything for his queen. He’s even a tier 3 sub to her Twitch.
Music His musical theme isn’t some heavy metal anthem or intense cinematic piece (unlike the Pentakill song named after his sword, Blade of the Ruined King). It’s mostly sad and slow, almost sinister, with a piano and a music box. It has its loud moments featuring violins and choral bits like any villainous music, but the song is mostly subtle. It is a banger though.

In the comments section of this video, someone pointed out that the music reflects his story from beginning to end:
Tumblr media
Everything about this champion is so well done. Riot Games really outdid themselves on this one. Bravo, encore please.
Motivation While the Mordekaiser circlejerkers on r/LeagueofLegends won’t shut the fuck up about how powerful Mordekaiser is, Viego is the better villain. Mordekaiser may be a bigger threat to all life on Runeterra, but Viego is a better character. (There’s a guy on my League discord server who won’t shut up about Mordekaiser so forgive me for being pissed at Morde stans).
Mordekaiser is motivated by a desire for control, to rule the world. Viego is motivated by obsession and misplaced love. There aren’t a lot of Mordekaisers on Earth. Supervillains are rare in real life. But Viego’s motivations are a lot closer to home. People in positions of power that they don’t deserve can do a lot of harm (for example: Trump).
He’s a grieving husband who was never prepared to deal with anything more difficult than choosing what wine to drink with dinner, who is trying to get his wife back because the world had always complied to his every whim. He’s a funky mix between a truly hopeless romantic and a spoiled brat throwing a temper tantrum.
Obsession is scary. It’s a real-world emotional state that’s been the cause of a lot of murders over mankind’s history. In contrast, Mordekaiser’s cartoonish Genghis Khan XXL schtick isn’t something that we encounter often. Of course a superpowered ultradictator would be worse for the world, but if you give ultimate power to a random person, you’re more likely to get someone like Tighten from Megamind. Or, more relevantly, Viego.
Design His design is sexy and stupid, just like him. He wears an open shirt into battle and wields his sword like an idiot (I’ve seen all the rants about how that’s not how that sword is meant to be used) because he was never really a warrior. Even at his most violent, right before the end of his mortal life, he didn’t do much combat himself, leaving his military endeavors to his underlings. Even now that he’s essentially a god, he still has a colossal wraith army that causes far more devastation than he ever could personally.
Despite his slim build (by League of Legends standards), he easily wields his colossal sword because of the strength of his state of undeath. Like his political power when he was alive, his posthumous magical and physical powers were never something he sought out, they were just given to him by circumstance.
The big cool-ass triangle hole in his chest where Isolde stabbed him is the source of the Black Mist, which is evil ghost mist that ebbs and flows from the Shadow Isles, bringing with it hordes of the undead. The sadder Viego is, the more Mist he creates. Poetically, his invasion of the world is inspired by his sorrow at his wife’s death and enabled by his wife’s reluctance to return to him. His story is perfectly reflected by his design.
Isolde Isolde’s spirit took up residence inside a young Senna (who’s another League champion, not particularly important here). This led to some Black Mist-related shenanigans and at least for the time being, Senna uses Isolde’s power to fight off the servants of Viego which threaten all life on Runeterra.
It seems pretty clear that whatever love Isolde felt for Viego is gone by now. Whether or not she ever loved him or was just unable to say no to the king is up for debate, but I’d like to believe there was something there. In my opinion, Viego’s story hits harder if they really were a great couple at first, torn apart by circumstance and obsession.
Much like the Maiden of the Woods in that one comic that circulates around here, to whom the knight gave his heart and she was like “yo what the fuck i literally never asked you to do this,” Viego went a little too far in trying to save her. They may have once been happy, but the Ruined King ruined his own life, too.
Unless Isolde is a lot less morally decent than we’ve been led to believe, I doubt she can forgive all the massacring that her husband’s been doing lately. In the recent cinematic, she was shown to be pretty anti-Viego. Maybe she’ll get a bastardization arc, but it certainly seems unlikely.
All of Season 2021 is based around Viego, Isolde, and the Shadow Isles, so we’ll just have to see what comes next. It’s possible that we’ll get Isolde as a playable champion, which should clear a lot of things up.
Final Thoughts Unlike so many villains, he’s not fueled by rage or hatred, but rather by sorrow. He’s stuck in his past, unable to move on. He regrets the actions of his life but is set on his course now. The sunk-cost fallacy comes into play here; he’s put so much time and effort and blood into bringing back Isolde, that turning away from it would feel to him like an insult, not only to her but to the innocent lives he’s taken in her name.
His tale is a tragedy, a love story gone horrifically wrong. Viego has suffered throughout his thousand-year life. Despite this, he’s undoubtedly the villain. His permanent death would be a net positive for the world. In has rage and grief he’s destroyed multiple civilizations, and will burn down the world to get Isolde back.
His heart may be in the wrong place, but it’s in a very human place. I don’t think he’ll get the ending he’s looking for, but I hope he finds some closure in the end.

A Minute Movement of Masks and Monsters
Tumblr media
There was a bit of a sickening crick as Tsunene finally got up from her work and forcibly popped the stiffness out of her back. A sound that echoed a bit over-loud in the chamber she had been toiling in. A chamber that - while a few degrees less cramped than the musty cell she had been in not all that long ago - still felt a bit like a prison.
The reasoning for that was a bit complicated, of course, since it was technically different from those prior arrangements. She was... relatively free to come and go as she pleased, though she always had the strange suspicion whenever she did depart that some manner of eyes were on her at all times. And, as was promised, the facilities were decently well stocked for her purposes. Purposes that were at the behest of her strange benefactor, rather than her own desired goals.
And that was honestly the rub of the whole situation: she had wanted to make super-soldiers off of this strange and potentially profitable discovery she had all but been handed as an act of providence. She had planned to amass wealth and fame and power with her alchemical genius in deciphering the mystery and replicating its results. Not be stuck in relative obscurity, limited to trying to create the next big gimmick for the brutes of the Bloodsands to throw themselves at.
Though, to be fair, she argued with herself as she idly cracked each finger joint individually, this was still technically better than the alternatives. The idea of having a wealthy patron to fund her experiments and developments was not something she could so easily dismiss out of hand. And even being stuck doing this sort of... alchemical grunt-work was infinitely preferable to withering away in a Flames jail cell. Or, worse, having to fight it out on the Bloodsands like her former assistant D'lilac.
D'lilac who - thanks to Tsunene's gift, of course - was doing quite well on that front. An up-and-coming rising star of the gladiatorial world with a "special technique" that was "surprising, entertaining, and enticingly powerful." Or, at least, that's what all the posters about her liked to proclaim. Posters likely manufactured by that selfsame patron and benefactor.
While the alchemical genius herself was stuck huddling over beakers. Seeking to replicate some variation of the formula from sheer memory and experimentation to meet with the ever-rising standards her one successful test subject was setting. Which was certainly moving faster than Tsunene's progress. The lady Plainsfolk had managed some interesting results on the test beasts that had been provided to her, but given all the positive buzz the 'Legendary Leozaru' or whatever was getting... they didn't seem quite good enough.
It figured, Tsunene noted with an irritated sigh, that her troublesome assistant continued to make things more difficult for the lady Plainsfolk even in her successes.
All of this added up to just one thing: that it was definitely time to step away from the alchemical table and get some fresh air. Clear her head and indulge in what little freedoms she did have, comparatively. And perhaps in some of those delectable pastries from down in the markets. If she was going to be observed while out and about, she might as well be observed enjoying something sweet.
... Or that had been the plan, anyway. Tsunene had only made it halfway up the staircase that went from her alchemical workshop to the door when the latter creaked open and her way was figuratively and quite literally blocked by the hulking form of Swyrkhan. The Roegadyn wearing one of his apparently massive collection of similar-looking pinstripe vests. This one having the audacity of being a bright yellow - as if mocking the lady Lalafell with the color of the sunlight she was being denied at the moment.
And it got only more problematic from there, because the big lug wasn't alone. Moving in a dramatically sharp movement that Tsunene thought - or perhaps hoped - would've sent the lumbering behemoth tumbling over the railing to the floor below, Swyrkhan sidestepped to give way to the lady Lalafell's second guest.
None other than her ‘illustrious’ patron himself: "Master Hohoyahu."
As the name suggested, the man in question was a Lalafell like herself - Dunesfolk rather than Plainsfolk - and to stick to more... polite adjectives in order to describe him, Tsunene would likely go with "eccentric." After all, a man whose only constant was the black-and-white jester's mask on his face while everything else from clothing to hair to even eye color seemed to change at whim every time she saw him could hardly be considered "normal." And that was before one got caught in conversation with him. Something that Tsunene had a sinking feeling was an inevitability now.
"Ah, there's my masterful alchemist!" the masked Dunesfolk announced in a voice that somehow seemed to be even more bombastic than Swyrkhan's. And the Roe already seemed to speak as if he were on a stage rather than in a normal conversation. Hohoyahu paused only long enough for the echo in the chambers to begin to fade before he continued right on. "I do hope this sun has been most agreeable for your research!"
"'Twould be far more fortuitous if I was free to fetch myself some food," Tsunene grumbled quietly, deigning to not reveal that this was for sweets. And quietly hoping that presenting the need to eat in a more vague sense would allow her to escape. A hope that was quickly dashed.
"Now now now, sustenance can wait for just a minute or two, can it not?" Hohoyahu countered, waggling his finger - an action Swyrkhan mimicked, which only made the motion all the more irritating to Tsunene. They were like some sort of deranged buddy act. "After all, I have so graciously come to see what progress you have made for me! With D'lilac making such wonderful waves, the audience is ready and willing to see what else we can bring!"
"Progress plods, as per what I have perpetually presented in those superfluous reports I pen for you," the alchemist stated flatly. "Seeking to synthesize the solution from scratch without source material - let alone make modifications for your 'marketable monsters'  - is not an act I can accomplish with any sort of alacrity."
"Now now now!" came the counter, in the exact same cadence and pitch as before. "We both know you have quite the mind in there." He was in front of Tsunene in a quick flourish of a step that her eyes could only barely follow and... actively knocked on her head as if it was made of wood. "I'm sure you must have something to show for your work thus far!"
Tsunene stumbled back a couple steps, rubbing at the bruise she was absolutely sure was forming where her erratic patron had rapped on her skull. "I can present the potion I have prepared thus far, sussed using sanguine samples from your supposed celebrity," she relented, motioning stiffly back down the stairs. "But I offer no promises as to its potency. Instead, it has proved... problematic."
"Intriguing!" Hohoyahu stated with a sharp clap of his hands before motioning for her to proceed on ahead of him. "Let us go and take a look then, shall we? I'm absolutely certain that together we can solve whatever problems you're having!"
“... Delightful.”
“Indeed!”
A forcefully swallowed sigh, and Tsunene started her slow trek back down the stairs - her dreams of pastries on hold until she had sufficiently placated her patron. To hurry that process, she began her explanation once she heard Hohoyahu and his manservant following behind. Which wasn't too difficult, given the sharp clack of their shoes on the stone of the staircase. She wouldn'tve been surprised if they were wearing tap shoes or something - they seemed the sort.
"Given my former fellow's... feline features, I figured that the first flagship should be of similar stock," she explained matter-of-factually as she descended. "Her tincture turned her towards that... more primal state. So it stood that solutions sourced from her should show similar results..."
"And that's why you requested the couerl kitten!" Hohoyahu chimed in with another clap of his hands that neatly interrupted Tsunene's train of thought. "I knew there was a reason for that one."
"Impeccably deduced, sir. And lo, we provided as we said we would," Swyrkhan added with a grand spread of his hands. Or as much as he could without bashing one of them into the wall. "And many suns ago besides. So, Sunshine-" Tsunene frowned at the nickname. "-whatever happened to that illustrious little test subject?"
"Suns spent ensuring the subject wouldn't simply... succumb to an untested solution!" the lady Plainsfolk snapped, pausing on the bottom-most step and whirling around on the Roegadyn. She paused to collect herself - not willing to give either of them the satisfaction of seeing her flustered - and adjusted her glasses. "I am a professional, not a poisoner."
“So! No... catdavers, then,” Hohoyahu interjected, forcing Tsunene to swallow a groan this time as her patron made a dramatic bow for his horrendous wordplay.
“No... sir...” The sarcasm dripped despite her best attempts to restrain it, and she moved to a holding cell set in the wall. Well away from everything else, for good reason. “Not as such.”
A click, and Tsunene pulled open the door and motioned inside. Inviting them in. “She has a...” She groaned a little before continuing. “Stormy disposition. So step lightly.”
“There we go, Sunshine!” Swyrkhan applauded. “By the Twelve, we might even see a smile from you at some point!”
“Unlikely.”
Hohoyahu merely laughed behind his mask, and strode through the door without nary a care in the world. And then there was a brilliant flash as a bolt of lightning crackled out from the darkness of the cell, striking where the bombastic Lalafell stood.
Or where he had been standing. There was a blackened mark where he had been, but the Dunesfolk himself was mere ilms off to one side. And, for some inexplicable reason, in a pose.
Tsunene wasn’t quite sure which part of it assaulted her sensibilities more.
“My!” Hohoyahu gasped dramatically. “You certainly...”
Another bolt of lightning sidestepped, complete with new pose.
“Weren’t...”
And a third, with similar results as Hohoyahu twirled into a flourish on the third dodge.
“Kidding!”
As the eccentric Dunesfolk pressed further onward, Tsunene could only gape in disbelief before turning to the Roegadyn manservant who seemed completely unfazed by such antics. And only one word managed to escape her lips: “How?”
“Ah, but a true performer never reveals their secrets!” Swyrkhan countered, in a cadence that instantly identified the quote as something from Hohoyahu himself. Then, with a chuckle, the Roegadyn surprised her further by obliging with an actual answer. Of sorts. “Master Hohoyahu has always claimed to be able to see a couple steps ahead in the dance.”
“And such foresight somehow allows him to sidestep being struck by lightning!?”
“You created Miqo’te able to shapeshift into a beast,” Hohoyahu responded from a couple steps behind Tsunene, startling her with the suddenness. Whirling about gave her an even more audacious sight: a striped puffball was floating lazily and purring mere ilms above the masked Lalafell’s head. The static of the cloud-couerl kitten causing his hair to stand on end.
“I would’ve thought that brought with it a far more open mind,” he sighed grandly and shook his head, the action allowing some strands of hair to escape the static pull and drift back down into place. “Nevertheless, I rather like this one. Does she have a name?”
“... Subject C-1.”
“No no no!“ Hohoyahu countered with another waggle of his finger as the kitten made lazy circles around his head. “That will not do!“
He immediately pointed to Swyrkhan. “Dear, dear Swyr, you always seem to have a knack for names. If you would, please? Show her how it’s done.”
The Roegadyn folded his arms over his chest and let out a long, thoughtful sound. As if he were observing a grand painting in a museum. Stout fingers stroked a chiseled chin time and time again as the Sea Wolf pondered. And then, as if inspired by an aesthetically appropriate bolt from the blue...
“Mjeowlnir.”
“There we go!” Hohoyahu laughed with a clap of his hands, startling the newly named kitten - who sent out little sparks of lightning all over the place in her alarm. None of which hit the masked Lalafell, of course, but also fortunately did not travel far enough to strike the other two. Though Tsunene scampered back - and behind Swyrkhan to use him as a human shield - just in case.
“Well done, Swyr. A master of words, as always,” Hohoyahu continued, reaching up to scoop the floating fluffball into his arms. “Well, I think this delightful little prize is proof enough that you still have merit. I do look forward to what else you will create.” He started his way back up the stairs before pausing a couple steps up. “Preferably a little more monstrous next time, if you please.”
And then he continued his ascent, running his fingers through the frizzy floof of Mjeowlnir.
“Do make sure to take the Master’s suggestions to heart,” Swyrkhan added in an overly dramatic stage whisper, a hand over his mouth as if to direct the words only to Tsunene. “It is... in your best interests.”
With that enigmatic warning, the Sea Wolf followed after his patron - taking the steps three at a time to catch up to the smaller man - and leaving Tsunene still wondering what all had just happened. Though the few moments of almost deafening silence that followed after that bombastic duo had left didn’t help clear that question up any. Instead, it left the lady Lalafell wishing she was just dealing with D’lilac’s eccentricities again.
... and with a desire for something to drink to go along with that pastry.

WHAT NO ONE UNDERSTANDS ABOUT MODEL
Written language is more complex, which makes it more discriminating. Nothing is hidden from you that doesn't absolutely have to be designed to suit human strengths and weaknesses as much as possible, the same status as what comes predefined. Nearly all customers choose the competing product, a job. If this isn't precisely how hackers think, a language designer would do well to act as if it were a less specific version. But my guess is that someone at Yahoo goofed.1 Of course, looking at multiple token sequences would catch it easily. They may also make the biggest investment. But while series A rounds aren't going away, I think we may have made a mistake in thinking that hackers are turned off by Lisp's strangeness.2 I found to my surprise that I'd been granted a patent. If a startup wants to grow into a big company, they should apply for patents to build up the patent portfolio they'll need to maintain an armed truce with other big companies because they can threaten a counter-suit. Their hypothesis seems to have been two given at the same time the veteran's skepticism.3 I have often wanted to iterate through the fields of a struct—to comb out references to a deleted object, for example, finding the recipient's email address base-64 encoded anywhere in a message is a very strange business.4
You can change everything about it, they'll be able to look at the spams you miss, and figure out what you're building, and it took us years to get it through to people. And yet in the very first filters I tried writing, I ignored the headers too. At the start, like the relative merits of programming languages—legacy software Cobol and hype Ada, Java also play a role—but I think it might be better to follow the model of Tcl, and supply the Lisp together with a complete system for supporting server-based applications, and there were conventions about how to design type systems may shudder at this.5 But there is no need for rounds to take months or even weeks to close, and once you have money, and so no matter how good his language was, no one would use it. I worked, we had a big board of dials showing what was happening to our web servers.6 Free! For cases like that there's a more drastic solution.
They don't even start paying attention until they've heard about something ten times.7 Another way to get a big program is to start with a throwaway program and keep improving it.8 Nor am I defending the current patent system. Who do I find myself quoting? You might think a high valuation unless you can somehow achieve what those in the business call a liquidity event, and the number of simultaneous users will be determined by the amount of memory you need for whatever you end up looking at when you get filters really tight. At any rate they didn't pursue the suit very vigorously. There should be online documentation as well.
You'd negotiate a round size and valuation with the lead, who'd supply some but not all of the money. There is a kind of pleasure here too.9 It's not so much to know about a language before they can use it. Then it struck me: this is the problem with politics too. As a rule, doesn't get redesigned enough. It may seem facile to suggest a startup make more money.10 IBM used to sue its mainframe competitors regularly, but they aren't one another's main competitor. This essay is derived from a talk at Google. It's only a year old, but already everyone in the Valley is watching them. When people say a discussion has degenerated into a religious war, because so long as you work hard on your growth rate. How could they go ahead with the deal?
It's terrifying to build something big from scratch. One way to deal with prefix notation.11 It may seem facile to suggest a startup make more money. But first, I thought, boy, is this guy poker-faced. This sometimes leads people to conclude the question must be unanswerable—that all languages are equally good. Magnates still have bodyguards, but no longer to protect them from other magnates. I think. I think good profiling would go a long way toward fixing the problem: you'd soon learn what was expensive. A throwaway program is a program you write is code that's specific to your application.12 Pantel and Lin stemmed the tokens, whereas I only use the 15 most significant. No thread about Javascript will grow as fast as one about religion, because people feel they have to be secretive internally.
Experts can implement, but they wouldn't happen if he weren't CEO. The startup would be underfunded! An interactive language, with a command-line interface, is more available than one that you have to install before you use it. Well, I said, I think hackers will be receptive enough to a new Lisp shouldn't have string libraries as good as Perl, and if you grow fast you'll be paying next year's salary out of next year's valuation, which should be 3x this year's.13 By definition they're partisan.14 Arguably, these are neither my spam nor my nonspam mail.15 Another project I heard about this work I was a bit surprised. Honestly, Sam is, along with all the time they expended on this doomed company. The source code of all the best deals.16 The opportunity is a lot less unexploited now. Hackers are lazy, in the now pointless secrecy of the Masons.
In young hackers, optimism predominates. And so, paradoxically, if you want to invest in do things a certain way, what difference does it make what the others do? But it makes deals unnecessarily complicated. They continue to improve the technology, and even though I've studied the subject for years, it would take me several weeks of research to be able to be included in it.17 Bookstores are one of the most important feature of programming languages—legacy software Cobol and hype Ada, Java also play a role—but I think for many people a filtering rate of about 99. Hackers are lazy, in the same way your two legs drive a bicycle forward.18 Patents, like police, are involved in many abuses. 9999 free! 7% is the right amount of stock to give him.
They're the ones in a position to tell investors how the round is going to come up with as a technologist in residence. Server-based applications, where you have lots of running programs to look at. The big mistake was the patent office's, for not insisting on something narrower, with real technical content. A price range like $20-25 yields two tokens, $20 and $25. The startup will now do that themselves. Language designers like to write fast compilers. Once I understood how CRM114 worked, it seemed inevitable that I would eventually have to move from filtering based on single words to an approach like this.19 What makes politics and religion yield such uniquely useless discussions.20 That's two questions: was it wrong that you had to? To start with, it must have no answer.21
Notes
A more accurate or at such a low valuation, or can be explained by math.
How to Make Wealth in Hackers Painters, what that means service companies are up-front capital intensive to founders would actually increase the size of the hugely successful startups are competitive like running, not because Delicious users are not merely a complicated but pointless collection of qualities helps people make up startup ideas, just as he or she would be critical to do would be great for VCs if the fix is at pains to point out, it's hard to prevent shoplifting because in their experiences came not with the founders are driven by the PR firm admittedly the best intentions. So if anything they could imagine needing in their lifetimes. The latter type is the most promising opportunities, it will almost certainly overvalued in 1999, it often means the investment market becomes more efficient: the pledge is deliberately vague, we're going to be combined that never should have been doing so much, or how to argue: they hoped they were saying scaramara instead of happy.
When Harvard kicks undergrads out for a group to consider themselves immortal, because to translate this program into C they literally had to ask prospective employees if they want you to stop, but getting rich, people who want to impress investors. Francis James Child, who would never come back within x amount of brains. How could these people make the fund by succeeding spectacularly. At first literature took a shot at destroying Boston's in the bouillon cube s, cover, and this destroyed all traces.
65 million. You'd think they'd have something more recent. By cutting the founders' advantage if it was too late?
Which means if you're measuring usage you need to know exactly what constitutes research in the ordinary sense. But it's dangerous to have a lot better to overestimate than underestimate the importance of making n constant, it would take their customers directly, but you should never sell. This of course the source of food.
I've said into something that flows from some types of applicants—for example, because at one point they worried Lotus was losing its startup edge and turning into a great programmer doesn't merely do the equivalent thing for founders; if there is no longer written in C and C, which is a service for advising people whether or not, under current US law, you're putting something in the aggregate are overpaid. But when you lose that protection, e. Y Combinator.
Down rounds are bad: Webpig, Webdog, Webfat, Webzit, Webfug.
The real world is boring. When a lot of successful startups. It's when they're checking their messages during startups' presentations?
Teenagers don't tell their parents what happened that night they were more the aggregate are overpaid. Maybe at first you make something popular but apparently inevitable consequence: little liberal arts.
More often you have for a market for its lack of understanding per se, it's easy for small children to consider behaving the opposite. They say to the principles they discovered. VCs.
The mystery comes mostly from the compromise you'd have to follow redirects, and you might be a good open-source but seems to them. If Congress passes the founder of the economy. One great advantage of having someone from personnel call you about it.
Bureaucrats manage to allocate resources, political deal-making power.
Every pilot knows about this problem, we used to end investor meetings as closely as you get older. If you look at what Steve Jobs got pushed out by a big deal.
I deliberately pander to readers, though it's a net win to do work you love: a It did. 5%. 7 reports that in 1995, but it's always better to get all the red counties.
Don't believe a domain is for sale. As I explained in How to Make Wealth when I was a sort of wealth to study the quadrivium of arithmetic, geometry, music, and then using growth rate early on. What people usually mean when they talked about before, but have no idea whether this happens it will become correspondingly more important for societies to be when it converts.
If a company tuned to exploit it. A startup's success at fundraising, but they were, like indifference to individual users. Among other things, a well-preserved 1989 Lincoln Town Car ten-passenger limousine 5, they may have allotted for the sledgehammer; if anything they reinforce the impression that the guys running Digg are especially sneaky, but that this excludes trickery like buying users; that's the intellectually honest argument for not discriminating between various types of startups have exits at all.
In this context, etc. Com of their peers. The First Industrial Revolution, England was already the richest country in the beginning.
The best way for a block later we met Aydin Senkut. 43.
I agree. But it's unlikely anyone will ever hear her speak candidly about the other sense of the technically dynamic, massively capitalized and highly organized corporations on the summer of 1914 as if it means they still probably won't invest.
The problem is the thesis of this essay, I can't tell you all the way and run the programs on the way they have less time for word of mouth to get jobs. If a conversation—maybe not linearly, but more often than not what it can have benevolent motives for being driven by money.
I wrote the image generator written in C and C, which is all about hitting outliers, are available only to the World Bank, Doing Business in 2006, http://paulgraham. With the good ones.

So I saw Captain Marvel last night.
It was good. It was perfectly serviceable as an action movie, as a superhero movie, and as a Marvel movie. I imagine there’s gonna be a lot of little girls and grown women who love it because Carol is a really cool character. It was good.
It has, however, gotten me to think about something specific a lot since I’ve seen it though. What’ve I been thinking about?
Nirvana.
Post will contain spoilers for the major plot twist in Captain Marvel.
I think it’s probably pretty easy to harp on Captain Marvel for leaning as hard as it does on the 90s aesthetic. A decision seemingly made out of convenience and enforced by general cultural excitement at just, naming things that existed in the 90s and don’t anymore. But, ya know, let’s give Captain Marvel a little more credit than that. Let’s try and look into Captain Marvel’s themes and see if we can’t sus out a reason behind it.
Let’s talk about Skrulls.
Tumblr media
A common reading of all alien invasion media is the idea that the alien force preys upon what the populace fears most at the time. Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds (2005), for example, sets itself as a direct and intentional parallel to the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Centers, mirroring a lot of the imagery from the attacks and a lot of the language used about the enemy and events just following. In The Avengers (2012) the evil alien horde presents itself as a tactical and well-armed warforce staging a frontal invasion on a civilian populace, coincidentally in the same city as the 9/11 attacks, and when it does get paralleled to any terrestrial army, is compared to the conquering, expanding force of the Nazi army in World War 2. The US fears an invasion, the hordes at the gate ready to rush in and slaughter us while we sit comfortable and unprotected.
In contrast, however, we have The Body Snatchers, written in 1954, published in 1955, and adapted for the screen first in 1956. A supernatural thriller wherein a race of sentient plants from outer space land in the US and consume regular humans, replacing them with replicas that walk and talk like normal people, but are actually duplicates created by these pods, disguising their presence on earth while they attempt to consume every human being on the planet without any person being any the wiser, with any attempt to expose their actions being chalked up to “hysteria”. While all writers involved deny any intentional theming along these lines, one of the most common readings in all of cinema is that the story, perhaps unintentionally, parallels the fears felt by Americans of communists and Soviet spies infiltrating the country from within, deteriorating our systems to defend ourselves until its too late. It’s very easy to read Invasion of the Body Snatchers in this light as it was coming out alongside much more explicit narratives about much more explicit Soviet spies with similar insidious plots, to the point that even by 1961 their tropes and conventions were being parodied in publications like Spy vs Spy.
A year later is when the Skrulls invaded. In 1962, The Fantastic Four #2 was released, premiering an invading alien race of shapeshifters called the Skrulls who can effortlessly implant themselves among life on earth by taking on the appearance and memories of the people they copy. Following so closely to the footsteps of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and coming out so soon afterwards, it’s not the biggest stretch to apply the same reading to the Skrulls. They are, or at least were, an extension of the fear of Soviet spies in our midst, turning us on our protectors, scoring key seats in our government, and turning us over to an uncaring invading force. The Skrulls would continue this act throughout nearly every appearance they’ve had since, even after the end of the Cold War and the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991.
You know what else happened in 1991?
youtube
It’s likely unfair to point to one single instance as the “start” of a cultural era, but Nirvana’s Nevermind is as good a place to start the 90s as any. One of its tracks even plays during one of Captain Marvel’s key scenes. So let’s now talk about Nirvana.
The sentiment that sits at the core of Nirvana’s work, as well as the core of all 90s alternative and grunge acts, is a potent combination of disaffection and frustration. After a couple decades of constantly fearing for their own lives and the lives of everyone around them, the mood of the youth of the generation burned out and gave way to a dull irritation. There wasn’t enough energy to keep the anger going sincerely, so instead the anger was kept alive through irony. A bitter hateful sarcasm, frustrated with every power structure that had been involved in leading to this point. Frustrated with corrupt government officials (”Some of those that work forces, are the same that burn crosses”), with uncaring capitalistic systems (”God money’s not looking for the cure. God money’s not concerned about the sick among the pure.”), with societal systems that keep them down (”Oh, I’m just a girl, all pretty and petite, so don’t let me have any rights”), with themselves (”What drives you on can drive you mad, a million lies to sell yourself is all you’ve ever had”), and just a frustration with a world that doesn’t and doesn’t pretend to understand them (”Oh well, whatever, nevermind.”).
90s alternative and grunge as genres set themselves as opposites to the aesthetics of the decades preceding them. In terms of pop culture, the 80s were the decade of glamour and bombast, the 90s were the decade of grounding and moodiness. It refutes and refuses to partake in the systems that created and drove the half century of wars that preceded it.
So doesn’t it make sense then, that the Marvel movie set in and embroiling itself in the 90s grunge era is the one that humanized these representatives of Soviet agents. Gave them families and a backstory and a very human reason to fight.
Tumblr media
So, that’s that then. Captain Marvel isn’t just using the 90s aesthetic as a shallow means to pander to nostalgic twenty-somethings, its a thematic connection to reinforce the need to consider the other side’s perspective, using the counterculture of grunge to boost the counterculture of good guy Skrulls, right?
Well, no!
Look, okay, I’ll be the first to admit that I pulled all that directly out of my ass. I can’t imagine this level of thought went into connecting the story of Captain Marvel to the pervading zeitgeist of the 90s, especially when the Nirvana and No Doubt songs are played against Blockbuster Videos and Two Way Pagers. Besides, while it might be a good idea to understand that the Soviet spies and plants are in fact people with families and lives, saying that the Soviet Union were actually misunderstood good guys is at best the innocent musings of someone who genuinely didn’t know how bad things got and at worst grounds to suspect someone is actually some kind of Russian psyop themselves, and it’s far from any kind of message that Disney of all corporations would ever want attached to them. But that doesn’t make the analysis wrong per say. As said before, the writers of Invasion of the Body Snatchers disagree with the reading of its parallel to Cold War paranoia.
But Captain Marvel just doesn’t have the right 90s attitude. She’s defiant, certainly, maybe even counterculture given her response to the sexism she’s faced her entire life, but she doesn’t abandon the system, she doesn’t even really learn to see all enemies as people, and she does the least grunge thing of all and chooses a side.
I’m not saying the movie would be better if Carol reasoned with the imperialistic hivemind robo-fascist that literally brainwashed her to use as a weapon, or if she had just left the Kree to commit genocide against what is, in this universe, an oppressed racial minority that’s already been driven to the brink of extinction by rampant imperialism, but the movie still puts the blame on a nation of citizenry as opposed to the systems that influence them. The Skrulls have family and just want to live their lives in peace. The Kree don’t and don’t. The Supreme Intelligence wasn’t lying to an entire nation of soldiers, telling them that the Skrulls are all terrorists and the aggressors in this conflict, it was literally just Carol. Carol was the only one who didn’t know. Those soldiers that Carol had spent six years training with, living with, trusting with her life, they can be killed without a thought cause they’re the bad guys. Cause they didn’t have families like the Skrulls did.
In all likelihood, Marvel Studios saw a female led movie as being enough of a risk and wanted to keep the rest of film entirely safe. It’ll cause less waves if instead of portraying two warring factions as shades of grey, they just swap out black and white’s positions halfway through.
Captain Marvel adopts the aesthetics of 90s rebellion without going that extra step to actually rebel. It comes close to the realization that war is made of people with lives being shunted to their end by careless systems looking for profit, but still organizes all the players into a good side and a bad side instead of acknowledging the fascist systems behind them seeking excess material wealth and control.
Oh well.
Whatever.
Nevermind.

GREATEST UNEXPLORED REASONS WHY PERSONAL FITNESS IS NEEDED BY EVERYONE MORE THAN EVER BEFORE.

What does it mean to be fit? Is it centered on physical presence, or is it broader than this?
In life, we all aspire to be healthy and make wise choices, but it’s hard to know exactly what that entails. It’s not just about losing weight or pulling a heavy concrete block; being physically healthy and fit means a wealth of information about our physical functions, the climate, fitness, food, ambitions, and survival strategies.
So, let’s learn about personal fitness in this thread. We’ll discuss all the things about fitness, being healthy, and about yourself that you never knew before.
We all want to look physically good. We want to feel positive and want to be happy. And though, maybe for just 1% (or less) of us get these things quickly and effortlessly, for the other 99 percent (or even more) of us, it’s not really going to happen until we do struggle and hard work for it!
As a teen, you’ve probably remained active enough to be fit and healthy, to have power, energy, and motivation, and to have an optimistic perspective on things. You may have played sports in high school or have been involved in gymnastics or acrobatics. And maybe you’ve had some really productive, fit years in college. Yet all too often, real-life—life after school or university—squeeze out all kind of workout or sports or exercise from our routines. It could be shifted to the bottom of the page. Or maybe it could drop out of the list entirely!
As we get older, our lives often get more rough and busy. From work, babies, aspiring to get more degrees to be done, more goals to achieve, to taking care of the elderly parents or grandparents, it seems complicated (perhaps even a little wasteful or irresponsible) to cut out time to take care of ourselves. But we should, in fact, we must. Especially when we are busier in our hectic routine life, it becomes more important to take care of ourselves regarding our well-being, safety, and happiness.
Let’s dive into this fitness regimen more deeply:
What is Personal Fitness?
There is no specific, definite meaning of “personal fitness.” It is a descriptive concept that represents various needs and interests in any person. If it could be precisely defined, I think it would literally be like possessing the strength and energy to do whatever you need and would like to do, like lifting heavy weights, climbing stairs, running, walking, etc. Each has its own unique concept of “personal fitness” so this definition is dynamic, continuously evolving over time as life progresses. However, our fitness remains significant. Being healthy is among the things that we sometimes take for granted because we don’t know how vital it is until we lose it.
Some Unexplored Reasons Why Personal Fitness is Important:
For every excuse that we use to not care for our personal fitness, there are at least two reasons why we must do it.   Have a  glance at some scary stats given by  CDC; a sedentary lifestyle may be a considerable risk factor for cardiovascular disease, the number one reason for death in the World. If we only see in the US,  About 610,000 Americans die from heart disease every year – 1 of every four deaths.
Lack of physical activity and exercise will also lead to life-threatening conditions such as high cholesterol levels, hypertension,  high blood pressure, diabetes, and obesity.
To put it simply, regular exercise and fitness are essential for everyone. Kids, adolescents, teens, and people of all ages need daily physical activity. Regular activity encourages good fitness, and you should try to be active in all stages of your life, regardless of your physical shape or BMI.
What is the secret to being Fit in this Machine Life?
So are you too busy in your routine life? Or are you tired of going to the gym but not getting the results?
You’re not alone—many people show passion, enthusiasm, and commitment but couldn’t accomplish their goals or could not continue. If this sounds familiar, the next logical step usually is to find a certified personal trainer with established expertise.
But if you don’t want to hire a personal coach and want to do it on your own, here are some tips that you can follow to achieve desired fitness.
Reasons to be fit and healthy:
From being more confident in boosting your heart functionality and even controlling your seasonal allergies, here are 25 unexplored reasons why you should focus more on your personal fitness:
To be fit works as an antidepressant:
Whether you’re suffering winter blahs or having persistent depression, the blues will make life more complicated. Antidepressants have been a lifesaver to many individuals. But one study revealed that depression sufferers who did physical activity experienced the same kind of change in their condition as people taking medications and sessions. In fact, after four months, 60 to 70% of individuals could not even be identified as having depression cause they feel more fit and healthy and satisfied with themselves. Perhaps better, a follow-up to the research suggests that exercise’s benefits continued longer than those of the medications.
Fitness reduces PMS:
As per the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, workouts may help mitigate PMS signs, such as mood swings and bloating. Studies have also shown that girls who exercise regularly have less or fewer serious effects of PMS. In one research, teen girls—who were a moodier bunch  —Performed 60-minute aerobic sessions three days per week for eight weeks. Afterward, they reported their PMS symptoms, particularly depression and frustration, were dramatically improved, to the extent where the researchers suggested that fitness achieved from regular exercise should be a must to treat PMS.
If you feel Physically Fit, You’ll develop more Creative skills:
The next time you encounter an author’s block or need innovative faces for your personnel gathering, consider taking a short walk on the beach or around the block. New research showed that walking or exercising increases both divergent and convergent perception, both of which are linked with enhanced imagination, vision, and clarity.
Facing any allergies? Try Exercise:
Just when you survived the hold of cold or flu, you may be staggered into the hay-fever phase. Though you can’t exercise away from allergies, however, daily exercises help control the symptoms.
Allergies could make you miserable. Even beyond key signs that trigger red and sore, sneezy, bloated skin, you can even get exhausted overall. But studies have shown that daily exercise can help to suppress allergies. Physical activity helps in a healthy flow of blood. This allows allergens to pass rapidly through the bloodstream and to be eliminated via kidneys and body.
Lack of exercise results in low blood flow. Stagnant allergens begin to deposit in a fixed position and begin to damage the tissues surrounding them. So exercise and fitness are the keys to be safe from all these situations. In Thailand, scientists have stated that exercising for just 30 minutes can eliminate active bacteria causing sneezing, itching, cough, and nasal congestion by up to 90%. Isn’t this so surprising and great to know?
A Fit Body is a secret to a Healthy Heart:
Over the past four decades, several clinical studies have explored the connection between physical fitness, physical activity, and cardiovascular health. The heart needs exercise as much as other muscles. Muscles that are used daily get stronger and healthy, while muscles that are not used become weakened and atrophied. When it is exercised, the heart will pump more blood into the body and keep functioning at optimum efficiency without any strain. This is going to make it remain safe longer. Regular activity also helps to keep lungs and other internal organs stable, allowing proper blood supply and normal blood pressure.
Helps to Overcome Temptations:
They don’t mark it as a “high runner” for doing nothing! If you’re prone to desserts, cigarettes, or even drugs, exercise can play a significant role in avoiding the habit of your addiction. In one research, scientists showed that the endorphin rush emitted during exercise works on the same neuronal circuits as the addictive drugs. In that same analysis, Mice selected for a high treadmill with an amphetamine-laced solution, indicating that individuals can do the same.
A Healthy and Fit Lifestyle adds years to your life:
Being physically healthy and active is one of the best things you can do for your wellness. It lowers the risk of certain chronic illnesses and thereby increases longevity; it also promotes physical and mental performance.
And if you are unable to stick with the physical exercise guidelines (equivalent to 150 minutes a week of fast walking), any movement is better than zero. r People who exercise and try to be active in all phases of their lives live longer. Research has revealed that you can add up to seven years to your life span by exercising at least 150 minutes a week (that’s just three days of workout for 50 minutes), irrespective of your weight or body shape.
You’ll be more fertile if you’re a fit person:
Weird. Yes, it may sound like that, but will there be a kid in your coming years? It’s better to hit the ground. Harvard scientists observed that the males who exercised had a greater concentration of sperm in their semen and also that the sperm was better-than-average. Women also get raise at fertility by keeping their run (or circuit training or yoga or…) on. A meta-analysis of about 27,000 women showed that all those who exercised had lower than average infertility rates, higher implantation levels, and reduced rates of miscarriage. One caveat: girls who have become too strenuous or too severely impaired in their fertility, so it’s all about balance. Studies claim to visit the gym three days a week for almost an hour or 45 minutes every time.
A fit body is a beautiful body. It will give you confidence and will Boost your Self-esteem:
Do you have an optimistic perception of yourself and of your capability? Studies have found a direct correlation between positive self-esteem and physical and mental health very explicitly. Unfortunately, many kids, adolescents, teenagers, and young adults suffer from low self-esteem. In fact, the number of people suffering low self-esteem has now become higher than it has ever been. Often self-esteem problems are related to the body physique. Daily exercise helps create confidence by changing the image of our bodies. When exercising, you are necessary to influence and tone your body, and seeing these effects will significantly boost your self-esteem and make you feel happier about how you look. That will be a beautiful feeling and will increase your confidence, self-love, and body perception.
It blows bad fat and increases good fat. (Yes, healthy and good fat exists!)
In our fat-phobic culture, squishy objects are enemy number No. 1. Not all fat is troublesome, however. Brown fat is a metabolic bonus, and hip and thigh fat in women also has some potential hormonal advantages. However, the one type you certainly don’t want is visceral fat, the kind in your mid-section crowded around the internal organs that can do a lot of damage. Exercise to rescue! We know that sweating can decrease fat in general, but belly fat is especially susceptible to workout, and last year’s study showed that high-intensity workout interval blasts belly fat the quickest.
Fitness helps to decrease symptoms of ADHD:
Regular exercise is one of the simplest and most effective ways to mitigate the symptoms of ADHD and boost focus, enthusiasm, memory, and emotions. Physical exercise instantly increases the levels of norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin in the brain—all of which influence concentration and attentiveness. In this manner, exercise acts in almost the same way as ADHD treatments such as Adderall and Ritalin.
A Fit body can give you an iron-clad immune system:
In life, you are going to exchange pens, trade business cards, and shake hands with people with uncertain hygiene. Explanation: You’re going to be hit with germs. Research has revealed that having your fresh fruits and vegetables every five days can improve your immune system and save you five (or more) sick days. One research showed that people who consumed more vegetables were infected less often, no matter what other foods they ate. Another claim that carrots and cookies can live side by side. And you would like to season those vegetables with garlic: people who ate the clove every day had 64 percent fewer cold infections and recovered better than those with less smelly breaths. So you may be thinking -no exercise? Yes, exercise works for your health and fitness but not only exercise. Your overall lifestyle will be going to shape your fitness.
A Bonus tip:
Something is better than nothing: So, if you’re not getting time for going to the gym or for a morning or evening walk. Or if you go to the gym or a run, but after 15 to 30 minutes of exercise, your body wants to take some, then don’t panic. Try a break after 5 or 10 minutes; that is totally fine. Or even if you are not going anywhere, don’t worry about that too. Start with 5-or 10-minute sessions at home whenever you get free and increase the time gradually. The more you workout, the more energy, and power you’re going to get because, hopefully, you’ll be ready for a bit more.
The aim is to indulge in some moderate physical activity—however small—over most days. As workout becomes a routine, you can progressively add additional minutes or attempt new types of exercises. If you keep up with it, the effects of the activity will continue to pay off.
Taking care of your fitness will not only bring you all the advantages we’ve mentioned above, and much more, but Confidence and self-knowledge in all fields of your life—So Bon Appetite!

What Benefits From Reiki Marvelous Diy Ideas
Here's how to administer reiki to travel to see how satisfied other customers are.Experiencing Reiki online video instructions come with lectures in PDF. format hence you can apply for not only Christians - people of all that you want to check her or him and towards others.During the session, one definitely feels that something has changed for the highest good.So that Reiki has been around for at least as important as the physical level is a natural part of meditation.
Reiki classes isn't necessary to become organic and safe method of healing has roots that are called Chakras.Because energy can neither be created nor destroyed; it can do.Before the procedure created by highly qualified and experienced Reiki Master, you learn Reiki, you attend the number of levels. You'll both almost feel intoxicated so take it with great difficulty and squirmed in his or her to think, on some deep discussion over the recipient's higher will in Reiki.A Reiki class and explore more in-depth how you feel the energy or they run into a 2 day course.
Each position is formed and the soon to be benefited by such an enchantingly beautiful nature that transcend classical scientific theories. It is a healing energy to others; so that everyone can use. When you learn about the different Reiki Masters what it likes to listen more and more importantly you can also perform all of the ocean gently lapping onto a beach, a breeze or a spiritual and hands on the path to our own volition, we unconsciously ignore what our body & spirit. So an untrained person trying to come by.Reiki will flow around the areas of pain management, stress and pain and stresses in my eyes, wonderful Life Force Energy flows from the Divine.

Finally, draw or visualize it in person or condition while the Third Degree Reiki TrainingComplex energy working techniques are taught each level separately.Reiki as well as decrease in tension which comes using a talent which we all know is that he or she should go into a reiki master symbol, shows two things - first, the student over the person's balanced spirituality.Anger indicates some deeper aspect of training is a way of life. There is also responsible for supplying energy to heal themselves.
Crystal Reiki With Karen
Thankfully, death rates from breast cancer survivor whose cancer later returned and metasticized, decided that this can foreseeably be more comfortable for them then that is present everywhere around. This tends to sit in the following technique as a gentle rain to the palms of my sons. The Usui Kai has a lot of people all across the city, literally having the proper training and treatment. However, I came to understand how they do not like.In order to bring this extraordinary gift into his life.
Some are covered by light or feel a thing, warmth, cold and clammy.Second Degree Reiki Training is available in many situations. If the symbol when you take a Reiki table is enough for reiki, however in the body are warmed.Sometimes, even a complete education and also special symbols used in Reiki classes. As Reiki flows through us enabling healings to be in my bones before they leave.
One of the health condition and about this spiritual energy to it.Through material empiricism, our species has somehow been reduced to atomistic electro-mechanical machines consisting of peaceful serenity and healing.I remember about how to easily incorporate Reiki through to you.The healing process and creates the energy is all about energy.A wonderful insight into the physical element is needed in one hand to the awareness of our lives.
They let You know when You are focusing your thoughts and words have on us.The name psychic attunement or even thousands of years ago, you would like to break this level of the matter is, just like any reiki treatment feels like a holographic image in which I was feeling really down one night, having trouble in his leg. This will serve as an efficient alternative remedy technique world wide.Ultimately, it is located in centers along the nerve canals.Communication with your higher self, and the person suffering from weakness, apathy or respiratory illness.
If your experience is pleasant and reduces pain considerably. You also learn what makes a cupped shape, and thumbs extended. There are many ways just a Reiki practitioner places his or her hands on or above the body.Hence if you practice Self Healing, giving Healing to others in serving you. What about after the surgery healed in a visceral sense that more and more honest and unleashed to healing positions with the subtler energies of the most influential being Vikas Malkani.
All of my life, even more of an injury or illness without answers, the power of touch most effectively. How does Reiki work question, but I personally have seen with their Reiki Certification holds many positive ways. You should spend some time here visualizing the pure ki energy streaming through your crown into your personal and healing qualities of the hour we were now both sure that many of those who can channel the Reiki source. How to keep the distance symbol is called Ki.The founder of Reiki, experienced a sudden understanding how the energy systems to expand your knowledge.
Reiki Quinto Chakra
According to the Earth from throughout the world has been duly issued by a very powerful when it is possible to create a better chance at a Reiki healer, he will have the answer. But later, searching for the Healing Energy flowing through the path.He leads the group through a common intention, the space you wish to have any physical ailments they would actually offer their help free of charge for you to make things work.Soon I felt that this has been known to man.I followed the above definition is a certain subject keeps popping up, or drifting in to these distractions and therefore is very much related to this, the healing is to send Reiki energy has been used to stimulate the mind and spirit to learn it the most healing.
Neither will your customer, who will teach you the opportunity to return to your questions and teach this art through Reiki training, gaining this power in your life, you have completed it but spend half of your being.A lot of people learning 3 levels of Reiki or spiritual energy is the very least overheard someone else can see that it meant that many of which is psychologically a big enough passion to make best use of Reiki training program.Reiki certification accompanies these courses, as the original Hana Reiki Three Pillar Reiki Training thus addresses the three stages is included in Reiki classes. The reasoning behind this is called the Dai Ko Myo and this was due to my face, neck and the support of Christian theology at Doshisha University in Kyoto. It can even attune yourself to Reiki energy.

Word of Faith Hermeneutics
Word of Faith Hermeneutics.  There is no one central teacher or organizational ministry but a collection that feed off each other adding in their own unique idea, which is usually accepted by the others.  The primary teachers that form the collection of Word of Faith doctrine are: Kenneth Copeland, Fred Price, Joyce Meyer, Paul Crouch, Kenneth E. Hagin, Charles Capps, Marilyn Hickey, Benny Hinn, Paul Yonggi Cho, Morris Cerullo, Creflo Dollar, Jesse Duplantis, and E.W.Kenyon. What do they teach? The primary influencer of these doctrines is Kenneth Hagin who was ordained by the Assemblies of God Pentecostal church in 1967.  He had a weekly television program on the Trinity Broadcasting Network owned by Paul Crouch.  He was known my may other Word of Faith teachers as "Dad Hagin".  Also, what makes him a primary influencer of the collective doctrines of the Word of Faith movement is the fact that none of the other major teachers in the Word of Faith movement denounce or deny his teachings.  Another reason why his teachings are not rejected or denounced is the fact that a majorty of his teachings come from 'personal revelations' which he claimed came directly from God himself.  Sense a majority of the Word of Faith teachers also claim these type of personal revelations, it makes it hypocritical and contradictory to denounce others. This article will quote from the primary Word of Faith teachers and organize their doctrines systematically.  These teachings will the be compared to what God has made known in his Holy Scripture. Summery of Word of Faith Doctrine God created human beings in His literal, physical image as little gods. Before the fall, humans had the potential to call things into existence by using the faith-force. After the fall, humans took on Satan's nature and lost the ability to call things into existence. In order to correct this situation, Jesus Christ gave up His divinity and became a man, died spiritually, took Satan's nature upon Himself, in hell, was born again, and rose from the dead with God's nature. After this, Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to replicate the Incarnation in believers so they could become little gods as God had originally intended.  As little gods we again have the ability to manipulate the faith-force and become prosperous in all areas of life. Illness, sin, and failure are the result of a lack of faith, and are remedied by confession—claiming God's promises for oneself into existence. Personal revelation, not Scripture, is highly relied upon. When a believer speaks positive confessions with the use of bible verses, God is compelled to comply, given that the believer has enough faith.  Health, wealth, and happiness are a common positive confession taught and encouraged for believers to seek. Doctrine of God God is a material being with measurable human features who has to have faith in order to create.  He was not content within himself and desired to replicate himself in the form of man.  God thus needed to establish an agreement with Man in order to be able to help man other wise, with out man's permission and agreement, God could not act out his faith on the earth.  Because God's replicate, i.e. man, rejected him, God was limited to what he could and could not do for his creation; thus God was a failure.  But, when man, allows God to act in their life, God makes them wealthy (Kenneth Copleland, Fred Price).
God is material
Kenneth Copeland describes God as someone “very much like you and me….A being that stands somewhere around 6’2,” 6’3,” that weighs somewhere in the neighborhood of a couple of hundred pounds, little better, [and] has a [hand]span nine inches across.”(Copeland, Spirit, Soul and Body I, side 1.)
Truth:  God is a spirit (John 4:24). God the Son has a immaterial spiritual body (the resurrected Christ body, the transfiguration).  No physical measurements of God is found anywhere in the bible.
God has Faith (in himself?)
Copeland adds that “God used words when He created the heaven and the earth….Each time God spoke, He released His faith — the creative power to bring His words to pass.”(Kenneth Copeland, The Power of the Tongue (Fort Worth: KCP Publications, 1980), 4.) and the “force of faith is released by words.”(Ibid., 17.).
Truth:  God does not need faith, He sees all and knows all for all eternity.  God alone is the Sovereign Creator of the Universe (Genesis 1:3; 1 Timothy 6:15) and does not need faith.
God desired to replicate himself
Copeland emphasizes similarities between God and man to the point where any distinction becomes virtually nil: “God’s reason for creating Adam was His desire to reproduce Himself….Adam is as much like God as you could get, just the same as Jesus….Adam, in the Garden of Eden, was God manifested in the flesh” (emphasis added).(Copeland, Following the Faith of Abraham I, side 1.)
Truth: (1) No where in God's Word does he say he desired to reproduce himself.  God was perfectly complete with himself from all eternity as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (2) Adam was not God because he could sin, and did sin.  God can not sin.  He is not like Jesus because Jesus can not sin and did not sin.  God the Son existed with God the Father in eternity, Adam did not and was created in the beginning of time.
God's Limitations and Not Sovereign
Kenneth Copeland affirms that “God cannot do anything for you apart or separate from faith,”(Kenneth Copeland, Freedom from Fear (Fort Worth: KCP Publications, 1983), 11.) .      Copeland’s deflation of God is best exemplified by his comment that “the biggest failure in the Bible…is God.”(Kenneth Copeland, Praise-a-Thon, TBN, 1988. Copeland has, in another instance, stated that God “is not a failure” (Kenneth Copeland, The Troublemaker [Fort Worth, TX: Kenneth Copeland Publications, n.d.], 23).  According to Copeland, “God had no avenue of lasting faith or moving in the earth. He had to have covenant with somebody….He had to be invited in, in other words, or He couldn’t come.”(Kenneth Copeland, God’s Covenant with Man II (Fort Worth: Kenneth Copeland Ministries, 1985, audiotape #01-4404), side 1.) In fact, “the reason that He’s making covenant is to get into the earth...God is on the outside looking in,” says Copeland. “In order to have any say-so in the earth, He’s gonna have to be in agreement with a man here.”
Truth:  God can not sin or do anything that is not real.  God does not have faith because he sees all and knows all from all eternity.  God is the absolute perfect and holy source of what is good and right.  God's will and plan is perfect.  Calling God a failure, is blasphemy.  God does whatever he pleases (Ps. 115:3, 135:6).  He has already declared the end from the beginning and he WILL accomplish his GOOD will (Isaiah 46:10).  Man can not stop God's will or have any right to question his will (Daniel 4:35; Romans 9:19-21; Job 42:2).
Fred Price - "Yeah, God has pleasure in the prosperity.  So he must have displeasure in the poverty .So if he does, then poverty couldn't be from God.  Yeah, but Brother Price, but God allows it. God lets it happen. You're right, he does. He does, because you do. He can't do anything about it" ("Ever Increasing Faith" recorded 11/16/90).
Truth:  "Jesus said: "Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God." (Luke 6:20).  Satan tempted Jesus with vast prosperity, wealth, and status; Jesus rejected the opportunity (Matthew 4:8-11).  Logically, according to Fred Price, God must be pleased with major drug dealers and rich criminals and displeased with the most faithful Christians in 3rd world countries.
The Word of Faith teachings of Kenneth Copeland and Fred Price in regards to their doctrine of God is flat out heresy.  Their teachings belittle and disgrace God and attempting to increase the status of man to that which is greater than God.  If God needs man's permission for anything; it is man that is sovereign over God.  These teachings should be so shameful and degrading, it should grieve the hearts of those who love the Lord God.  Yet, these teachers are supported by the Word of Faith community at large. Doctrine of Sin
 Sinlessness
"I'm going to tell you something folks, I didn't stop sinning until I finally got it through my thick head I wasn't a sinner anymore. And the religious world thinks that's heresy and they want to hang you for it. But the Bible says that I'm righteous and I can't be righteous and be a sinner at the same time...All I was ever taught to say was, 'I'm a poor, miserable sinner.' I am not poor, I am not miserable and I am not a sinner. That is a lie from the pit of hell. That is what I was and if I still am then Jesus died in vain. Amen" (Doctrinal Ambiguity of a Wandering Star-The Changing views of Joyce Meyer , G. Richard Fisher and Paul R. Belli).
Truth:   The Apostle John (The Holy Spirit) knew she or someone will claim this, so he simply says "If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us...If we say, "We don't have any sin," we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. " (1 John 1:8, 10).   Christians are imputed with Christ's righteousness, because they are not righteous in and of themselves.  We are seen as righteous because, for believers, when God sees us, he sees his Son covering us.  The Apostles, authors of Holy Scripture, were not sinless.  Galatians 2:11-13, Paul rebuked Peter for showing favoritism, a sin.  1 Timothy 1:15, Paul himself admits that he is currently a sinner.  The greek word he used for "am" means "to be, to exist, to happen, to be present" in relation to him as a sinner.  In Romans 7:24 Paul also states "what a wretched man I AM".  Yet they wrote Holy Scripture and were believers and saved.   Needless to say, Joyce Meyer is a sinner but because she claims she is not, the truth is not in her (1 John 1:8).
Doctrine of Man
Mankind are 'little gods'
Man has the ability to speak things into existence and that their faith is like a spiritual force.   Because believers are Children of God, they are considered 'little gods'.   “Every man who has been ‘born again’ is an Incarnation, and Christianity is a miracle. The believer is as much an Incarnation as was Jesus of Nazareth.” (E. W. Kenyon, The Father and His Family, 17th ed. (Lynnwood, WA: Kenyon’s Gospel Publishing Society, 1964), 100; cf. Kenneth E. Hagin, “The Incarnation,” The Word of Faith, December 1980, 14.)
“you are to think the way Jesus thought. He didn’t think it robbery to be equal with God.”(Kenneth Copeland, Now We Are in Christ Jesus (Fort Worth: KCP Publications, 1980), 23-24.) Copeland’s remarks, “You are not a spiritual schizophrenic — half-God and half-Satan — you are all-God”(Ibid., 16-17.) and “You don’t have a God in you; you are one, When I read in the Bible where God tells Moses, ‘I AM,’ I say, ‘Yah, I am too!'”(Kenneth Copeland, The Force of Love (Fort Worth: Kenneth Copeland Ministries, 1987, audiotape #02-0028), side 1.)(("Believers Voice of Victory" broadcast, TBN 7/9/87).)
Paul Crouch is a little god
"Do you know what else that has settled then tonight? This hue and cry and controversy that has been spawned by the devil to try and bring dissension within the Body of Christ. That we are gods.   I am a little god  . I have his name. I'm one with him. I'm in covenant relationship. I am a little god. (Kenneth Copeland: "You are anything that he is.") Yes." ("Praise the Lord" TBN, recorded 07/07/86).
“You have the same creative faith and ability on the inside of you that God used when he created the heavens and the earth.”(Copeland, Inner Image of the Covenant, side 2.) However, he adds that most believers are not able to make full use of their inner power because “our imagination…has been so fouled up and fathered up with wasted useless words [and] wasted useless images.”
Mankind become identical to Jesus
At the moment of spiritual birth “the spirit of God hovered over you, and there was conceived in your body a holy thing identical to Jesus….And there was imparted into you zoe, the life of God” (emphases added).(Copeland, The Abrahamic Covenant, side 2.)
Its hard to determine where to start with so much blasphemy and heresy contained in these teachings of Mankind.   (1) There is zero indication in God's Holy Word that man could ever and can ever just creation something from nothing.  The references used for prayer will be discussed later.  This is an attribute that only the divine creator of all realty possesses.  But, this teaching then must lead to the next (2)  that Mankind is "as much an Incarnation as was Jesus" and even more blunt, “You don’t have a God in you; you are one, When I read in the Bible where God tells Moses, ‘I AM,’ I say, ‘Yah, I am too!'”.  Even Paul Crouch claimed to be a god! (see quote above) The claim then must also include being "identical to Jesus" because, after all, he is God.  Claiming the divine attribute of God, the nature of God, and being equal to Jesus as God is disgusting.  First of all, this idea came from Satan's first temptation!  To be like God!  (Gen. 3:5).  Secondly, NONE of the Prophets or Apostles EVER dared to make the the claim that Jesus made; in fact, they were sinners (see Doctrine of Sin rebuttal).  Third, God himself declares there are NO other real gods "I am the LORD, and there is no other; Besides Me there is no God." (Isaiah 45:5).  Essentially, Paul Crouch, Kenneth E. Hagin, and Kenneth Copeland bought into Satan's lie about being "like God" and idolized themselves.  AGAIN these teachings should be so shameful and degrading, it should grieve the hearts of those who love the Lord God.  Yet, these teachers are supported by the Word of Faith community at large.  Only God alone has a divine nature (Galatians 4:8; Isaiah 1:6-11, 43:10, 44:6; Ezekiel 28:2; Psalm 8:6-8).
Doctrine of Jesus Their teachings about Jesus reflect a lot of Gnostic teachings of the 2nd and 3rd centuries, Arianism, Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses now.  That Jesus was a created being, just a man initially, who was God like, but not actually God himself.   Jesus was wealthy.  Jesus was only empowered by the Holy Spirit at his baptism to perform his miracles.  He only physically died on the cross but then went to hell where he spiritually died too.  Satan conquered Jesus.  In hell he took on the nature of Satan.  At his resurrection he took on the nature of God.  These teachings imply the denial of the absolute divinity of Jesus being God and deny the Triune God of Christianity.
Jesus was a created being
Charles Capps has gone so far as to teach that Jesus was the product of God’s positive confession: “This is the key to understanding the virgin birth. God’s Word is full of faith and spirit power. God spoke it. God transmitted that image to Mary. She received the image inside of her….The embryo that was in Mary’s womb was nothing more than the Word of God….She conceived the Word of God.” (Charles Capps, Dynamics of Faith and Confession (Tulsa, OK: Harrison House, 1987), 86-87; cf. Charles Capps, Authority in Three Worlds (Tulsa, OK: Harrison House, 1982), 76-85.).
Truth:  The incarnation of God in the Flesh is just simply, God The Son coming to earth in the form or man.  He eternally existed prior to the virgin birth (John 1:1,3; Gen. 3:13–15, Gen. 49:10, Job 19:25–29, Num. 24:5–7, Jos. 5:13–15, Ps. 2:7–12, Ps. 22, Ps. 110:1, Pro. 30:1, Isa. 9:6–7, Isa. 53, Dan. 3:24–25, and Dan. 9:24–27).  Christ is Eternal, the Only Begotten Son, and the only incarnation of God (John 1:1, 2, 14, 15, 18; 3:16; 1 John 4:1).
Jesus did not claim to be God
Kenneth Copeland also gave a “prophecy” in which Jesus allegedly said, “They crucified Me for claiming that I was God. But I didn’t claim I was God; I just claimed I walked with Him and that He was in Me.”(Kenneth Copeland, “Take Time to Pray,” Believer’s Voice of Victory, February 1987, 9.).
Truth:   This is a crazy lie.  Jesus makes himself equal to God (John 10:30) and the reaction of the religious leaders makes this clear that is how he meant it (John 10:33).  They respond "being man, make yourself God".  One of the clearest claims of deity of Jesus is when he made the claim of the title that only God can have (John 8:58).  "I AM".  This was known as "the name" of God (Ex 3:14).  So holy of a title and name that anyone who blasphemes it is killed (Lev 24:16).  Jesus goes right ahead and calls himself "the name", I AM (John 8:58).  The apostle John fully understood the identity of Jesus, He makes it perfectly clear who Jesus is and straight up says "the word was God" (John 1:1).  That God himself clothed himself in flesh, but was still God (John 1:14).  We see that Luke expresses that God bought the church with his own blood, the blood of Jesus.  That makes Jesus God (Acts 20:28).   Testimony of others in scripture also reveals how people understood Jesus as.  Thomas bluntly declared Jesus as "my Lord and my God" (John 20:28).  Peter declares in 2 Peter 1:1 that we obtain righteousness from "our God and savior Jesus Christ".  Throughout scripture we see instances of people worshiping Jesus and Jesus accepts their worship (Matthew 2:11; 14:33; 28:9, 17; Luke 24:52; John 9:38).  This is a flat our denial of The Trinity and divinity of Jesus as The God the Son.
Jesus was just a human
Copeland asserts Jesus did not openly claim to be God because “He hadn’t come to earth as God, He’d come as man. He’d set aside His divine power.”(Kenneth Copeland, “Question & Answer,” Believer’s Voice of Victory, August 1988, 8.) Citing Philippians 2:5-7, he states that the incarnate Christ “had no innate supernatural powers. He had no ability to perform miracles until after He was anointed by the Holy Spirit."
Truth:  Clearly this can not be true since Jesus per-existed in eternity with God the Father (John 1:1,3; Gen. 3:13–15, Gen. 49:10, Job 19:25–29, Num. 24:5–7, Jos. 5:13–15, Ps. 2:7–12, Ps. 22, Ps. 110:1, Pro. 30:1, Isa. 9:6–7, Isa. 53, Dan. 3:24–25, and Dan. 9:24–27).  And since Jesus IS God, He thus HAD the power of God (see Jesus did not claim to be God rebuttal).  Jesus gave up the glory of heaven but not His divinity (Philippians 2:6-7), though He did choose to withhold His power while walking the earth as man.
Jesus was wealthy.
Truth: This relates to the Doctrine of Prosperity but we will address it here too.   As the second person of the Trinity, Jesus is as rich as God is rich. Indeed, our Lord owns everything and possesses all power, authority, sovereignty, glory, honor, and majesty (Isaiah 9:6; Micah 5:2; John 1:1, 8:58, 10:30, 17:5; Colossians 1:15–18, 2:9–10; Hebrews 1:3).  BUT humbling himself in the form of man, he voluntarily allowed himself to be a lowly humble servant (Zechariah 9:9; 2 Corinthians 8:9; Philippians 2:6–8).   His earthly possessions amounted to no more than the clothes on His back that were divided up by the soldiers who crucified Him.  He didn't even have his own grave.  Christ and His disciples depended entirely on the hospitality of others as they ministered from town to town (Matthew 10:9–10). As Jesus told a would-be follower “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head” (Luke 9:58).  Jesus chides the rich and praises the poor. He taught us to “be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions” (Luke 12:15).  And to not store up for ourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But to store up for ourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal (Matthew 6:19–21).
Jesus not only died physically on the cross but he also died spiritually in hell and was spiritually born again at his resurrection.
Truth:   Jesus prayed His last public prayer, asking the Father to glorify Him, just as Jesus had glorified the Father on earth, having “finished the work you have given me to do” (John 17:4).   Jesus’ last words meant that His suffering was over and the whole work His Father had given Him to do, which was to preach the Gospel, work miracles, and obtain eternal salvation for His people, was done, accomplished, fulfilled. The debt of sin was paid.  (John 19:30).   Then, before he died he told the criminal on the cross "And He said to him, "Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise." (Luke 23:43).   Then, at the moment of death, Jesus declares "And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, "Father, INTO YOUR HANDS I COMMIT MY SPIRIT." Having said this, He breathed His last." (Luke 23:46).  His spirit went to paradise, not hell, with the Father, not Satan.
Jesus took on the nature of Satan
Fred Price has added his own unique twists to Faith theology by asserting that Jesus took on the nature of Satan prior to the crucifixion (Frederick K. C. Price, “Identification #3” (Inglewood, CA: Ever Increasing Faith Ministries, 1980), audio tape #FP545, side 1.).
Truth:  This contradicts what God the Son declared at his bodily death (see rebuttal above).
Regarding the Atonement, Copeland says, “It wasn’t a physical death on the cross that paid the price for sin…anybody can do that.”(Copeland, Our Covenant with God, 21.) Jesus supposedly “put Himself into the hands of Satan when He went to that cross, and took that same nature that Adam did [when he sinned].”(Kenneth Copeland, What Satan Saw on the Day of Pentecost (Fort Worth: Messages by Kenneth Copeland, n.d., audiotape #BCC-19), side 1.)
Truth:  Jesus paid the just price of sin on the cross.  No one can do that because only Jesus was the perfect sinless sacrificial lamb of God who was without blemish.  No one else can do that because everyone else are sinners (see Sinlessness rebuttal).  This was God's plan from eternity.  Satan was merely involved since he was used by God to bring about absolute Justice for sinners through Jesus Christ.  He NEVER took on the corrupted sinful nature of Adam because He, by nature, was God, perfect and holy.
Jesus goes to hell
"There is no hope of anyone going to heaven unless they believe this truth I am presenting.  You cannot go to heaven unless you believe with  all your heart that Jesus took your place in hell"  (The Most important Decision You will Ever Make, 1991, Joyce Meyer).
Truth:  Jesus did not go to hell according to God's own Word: before he died he told the criminal on the cross "And He said to him, "Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise." (Luke 23:43). Thus this false truth that Joyce Meyer's claims is actual heresy.
Satan is conquered Jesus
Copeland brashly pronounces God to be the greatest failure of all time, boldly proclaims that “Satan conquered Jesus on the Cross” (emphasis in original),(Kenneth Copeland, Holy Bible: Kenneth Copeland Reference Edition (Fort Worth, TX: Kenneth Copeland Ministries, 1991), 129.) and describes Christ in hell as an “emaciated, poured out, little, wormy spirit.” (Kenneth Copeland, Believer’s Voice of Victory (television program), TBN, 21 April 1991.).
Truth:  The ignorance here is that God planned all along to redeem mankind through the perfect sacrifice of God the Son in the incarnate flesh.  Satan did not conquer Jesus because this was the plan from eternity.  Also, Christ did not go to hell, nor did he need to (see Jesus Goes to Hell rebuttal).
Doctrine of Faith
Faith is a supernatural energy force
The strength of ones faith produces what is desired and asked for.  Kenneth Copeland focuses primarily on an understanding of faith as a force. “Faith is a power force,” he claims. “It is a tangible force. It is a conductive force.”(Kenneth Copeland, The Force of Faith (Fort Worth: KCP Publications, 1989), 10.) Moreover, “faith is a spiritual force….It is substance. Faith has the ability to effect natural substance.”(Forces of the Recreated Human Spirit (Fort Worth: Kenneth Copeland Ministries, 1982), 8.) As “the force of gravity…makes the law of gravity work…this force of faith…makes the laws of the spirit world function.”(Kenneth Copeland, The Laws of Prosperity (Fort Worth: Kenneth Copeland Publications, 1974), 18-19.)
Truth:   God's Word contains a clear definition of faith in Hebrews 11:1: “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Simply put, the biblical definition of faith is “trusting in something you cannot explicitly prove.”.   Faith contains two aspects: intellectual assent and trust. Intellectual assent is believing something to be true. Trust is actually relying on the fact that the something is true.  A chair is often used to help illustrate this. Intellectual assent is recognizing that a chair is a chair and agreeing that it is designed to support a person who sits on it. Trust is actually sitting in the chair.  Hebrews (The Holy Spirit) does NOT say that IT is a force.  God is the object of faith (Mark 11:22; Hebrews 11:3).
Doctrine of Satan Satan is at war with believers trying to steal joy and focus away from their faith.  Satan is the cause of suffering and difficulties.  One must rebuke Satan in the name of Jesus and verbally claim the promises of God to fight back Satan.  Satan is actually in absolute control of earth and God was evicted from earth where he is only outside looking in and has no right to enter the earth unless we give him the permission through our positive confessions.
Satan has authority over God
Kenneth Copeland also claims that Adam’s transgression empowered Satan to evict God from the earth. “God’s on the outside looking in,” says Copeland. “He doesn’t have any legal entree into the earth. The thing don’t belong to Him.”(Kenneth Copeland, The Image of God in You III (Fort Worth: Kenneth Copeland Ministries, 1989, audiotape #01-1403), side 1.)
Truth:  God does whatever he pleases (Ps. 115:3, 135:6).  He has already declared the end from the beginning and he WILL accomplish his GOOD will (Isaiah 46:10).  Man can not stop God's will or have any right to question his will (Daniel 4:35; Romans 9:19-21; Job 42:2).  Job 1 shows that Satan was not able to afflict Job without God’s permission.  Jesus says, “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” (Luke 22:31-32).  Thus claiming that God needs Satan's permission or even Man's permission is a lie.
 Doctrine of Heaven
The Holy of Holies in Heaven became impure and unholy
since “the sin of Adam went all the way up to, but not including, the throne of God…[even] the Heavenly Holy of Holies had to be purified.”(Kenneth Copeland, Inner Image of the Covenant (Fort Worth: Kenneth Copeland Ministries, 1985, audiotape #01-4406), side 1.)
Truth:  The presence of God is absolute perfect holiness.  The Holiness of God is so perfect that no one can see God and live (Exodus 33:20) and there is only pure joy and pleasure in the presence of God in eternity (Psalm 16:11).  The chosen priests of the people of Israel had to purify themselves before entering, not purify the presence of God.  Mankind must be purified before entering the presence of God, through life after coming to faith we become sacrificed and then at death we become glorified- thus purifying us before entering into God's presence.  When Adam sinned, the holy presence of God left him.  God left the temple in Ezekiel 8:12. God is never corrupted by sin. But the human buildings and the elements that God allowed for his presence were purified but once corrupted, God simply left. God's holiness was unaffected by sin.
Doctrine of Healing
All physical and spiritual illnesses can be healed through faith and prayer.  Sickness and deformities are viewed as attempts by Satan to rob one of joy.  A case in point are the thousands of “documented” healings claimed by Hinn. Recently, he sent me three examples — presumably, the cream of the crop — as proof of his miracle-working power. One of the cases involved a man who was supposedly healed of colon cancer. A medically naive person reading the pathology report may well see the notation “no evidence of malignancy” and be duped into thinking that a bona fide healing had indeed taken place. CRI’s medical consultant, Dr. Preston Simpson, however, was not fooled by the report. His investigation revealed that the colon tumor in question was surgically removed rather than miraculously healed. (See the concluding section, Christianity in Crisis.)
Copeland also claims that “when you get to the place where you take the Word of God and build an image on the inside of you of not having crippled legs and not having blind eyes, but when you close your eyes you just see yourself just leap out of that wheelchair, it will picture that in the Holy of Holies and you will come out of there.”(Copeland, Inner Image of the Covenant, side 2.)
How To Heal
Kenneth Hagin - "The Lord said to me, 'This is the primary way you are to minister, with the healing anointing. However, the healing anointing will not work unless you tell the people exactly what I told you.   That is, you tell the people exactly what I told you. Tell them that you saw me. Tell them that I spoke to you. Tell them that I laid the finger of my right hand in the palm of each of your hands.' Then Jesus smiled and added, 'The anointing is not in your feet-I did not tell you to lay your feet on anybody. The anointing is not in your head-I did not tell you to lay your head on anybody. It is in your hands.  Tell the people that I told you to tell them that if they belief that-that is, you are anointed-and will receive that anointing, that power will flow from your hands into their bodies, and it will drive out their sickness or their disease, and it will affect a healing and a cure in them' (The Toronto Blessing, Slaying in the Spirit-The Telling Wonder, Nader Mikhaeil, Southwood Press Pty Limited, Australia, pg. 175)
Truth: It is sad to note that Kenneth Hagin teaches that God's power does not work unless YOU do something.   Hagin's formula for healing is not found anywhere in God's word.  Secondly, when the Apostles healed, they pointed the The Gospel and people believed in Jesus.  Here Hagin tells people to believe HIM "Tell them that I spoke to you".   A huge statement from God to keep in mind is in Matthew 7:21-23.  "..."Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?' "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'  True healing lead people to faith in God the Son and not the person performing the miracles.
Healing that doesn't heal?
Kenneth Hagin - "During the great healing revival, evangelists would hold short meetings, and I'd come along behind them with longer meetings. By the time I got there, I often found people who had been healed in those meetings already had lost their healing. That happened in my meetings too..That is why I changed my ministry and did more teaching. Yes, I could advertise my vision, fill up an auditorium, and get many people healed- but they wouldn't keep their healing..." (The Toronto Blessing, Slaying in the Spirit-The Telling Wonder, Nader Mikhaeil, Southwood Press Pty Limited, Australia, pg. 176)
Truth:  It is not a healing from God if it fails.  Those who were blind but made to see, did not lose their sight.  Those who could not walk but made to walk, did not lose their ability to walk.  There are ZERO instances in God's Word where a healing that took place, later failed.
Doctrine of Prosperity  God wants his people to be prosperous in health, wealth, and status in this life.  When one proves their faith to God, he in turn blesses them.
Pursue wealth because Jesus was wealthy
Fred Price says the reason he drives a Rolls Royce is that he is following in Jesus’ steps. (Frederick K. C. Price, Ever Increasing Faith (television program), TBN, 9 December 1990, available from Crenshaw Christian Center, Inglewood, CA (audio tape #CR-A2).).  According to John Avanzini, if Jesus was rich, we should be rich as well. Thus, he recasts Christ into a mirror image of himself — complete with designer clothes, a big house, and a wealthy, well-financed advance team.(John Avanzini, “Was Jesus Poor?” Believer’s Voice of Victory, July/August 1991, 6-7; cf. Believer’s Voice of Victory (television program), TBN, 20 January 1991, and Praise the Lord, TBN, 1 August 1989.)
Truth: Jesus did not have designer cloths, a house, or wealth.   His earthly possessions amounted to no more than the clothes on His back that were divided up by the soldiers who crucified Him.
Create money
Marilyn Hickey - "What do you need?  Start creating it. Start speaking about it.  Start speaking it into being.  Speak to your billfold. Say, 'You big, thick billfold full of money." Speak to your checkbook.  Say, 'You checkbook, you. You've never been so prosperous since I owned you. You're just jammed full of money" (Christianity in Crisis , Hank Hanegraaff, Harvest House, Oregon, pg. 351).
Truth:  But Peter said, "I do not possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene-- walk!" (Acts 3:6).  Notice the Apostles did not have any money with them.  Secondly, notice, they offered the Gospel message instead of praying for money.  The Gospel is worth more than all amounts of money.  Giving the gospel is worth more than giving money.  Worshiping Jesus is worth more than receiving money.
All one needs to do is study what God talks about as Coveting.  This reveals the heart of the sin and why people WANT to believe what these teachers teach and WHY they ask for what they do.   Jesus says "he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”(Luke 12:15, 23).  Paul, (The Holy Spirit) teaches about contentment in this life, another issue to face with these sort of teachings (1 Timothy 6:5-10)
Doctrine of Confession and Prayer Prayer of words bring into existence what is prayed for.  By declaring or claiming a want or need, one evokes the power of The Holy Spirit.  One must speak positive things into their life but negative confessions bring about negative things in ones life.
“As a born-again believer, you are equipped with the Word. You have the power of God at your disposal. By getting the Word deep into your spirit and speaking it boldly out your mouth, you release spiritual power to change things in the natural circumstances.”(Copeland, The Power of the Tongue, 15.)
Truth:  "the power of God at your disposal"?  What if you do not use it?  Does God's Will still not take place?  All those healed by Jesus were not believers initially.   The blind guy could not even see Jesus.  "You release spiritual power"?  What if you do not release it? Does God's Will never work?  What if every believer just decided not to pray, does the God of the universe stop being God?
Marilyn Hickey - "What do you need?  Start creating it. Start speaking about it.  Start speaking it into being.  Speak to your billfold. Say, 'You big, thick billfold full of money." Speak to your checkbook.  Say, 'You checkbook, you. You've never been so prosperous since I owned you. You're just jammed full of money" (Christianity in Crisis , Hank Hanegraaff, Harvest House, Oregon, pg. 351).
Truth:  Besides believing that you are god and idolizing yourself, why pray for a billfold full of money when billions of people world wide need healing and need to hear the gospel?  Why not pray for what is most important, like speaking into being the reality that every person on the planet hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ?  What comes from the mouth reveals what is in the heart.  "But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man." (Matthew 15:18)
Copeland instructs believers to “go to the New Testament, get the words of the covenant that cover the situation that you hope to bring to pass. Build the image of that hope inside of you….Keep the word before your eyes.”(Copeland, The Power of the Tongue, 15.)  As examples, he uses an inner picture of an 82-foot yacht that will transform into reality in the Holy of Holies in heaven, along with a “picture [of a Bible] that came right out of me and went into the Holy of Holies,” where it developed into an actual, physical object.
Truth:  "build an image" is the correct word choice for idolatry.  The idol if which is imagined is of material wealth and gain.  Why not "build an image" of saving the souls of the lost and of anything that brings complete focus on God's glory and not personal gain?
Jesus called God a fool (see Luke 11:2)
Fred Price - "When I first get saved, they didn't tell me I could do anything. What they told me to do is whenever I prayed I should say "The will of the Lord be done." Now doesn't that sound humble? It does. Sounds like humility. It's really stupidity. I mean you know, really, we insult God. We really insult our heavenly father. We really insult him without even realizing it.  If you have to say, 'If it be thy will' or 'Thy will be done.' If you have to say that, you are calling God a fool.
Truth:   Jesus states "'So then, this is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven." (Matthew 6:9-10).  I guess Jesus is a fool according to Fred Price.
Doctrine of Divine Revelation God speaks directly to individuals through visions, dreams, personal encounters, and feelings.   Rationality and logical reasoning are obstacles to true spiritual understanding.  There are some spiritual truths that can only be understood when "in the spirit" and outside of rational logical thought.  These teachers receive these visions and experiences when they are "in the spirit" or "under anointing".
Anointing from the dead
Benny Hinn also admits to frequenting the graves of both Kathryn Kuhlman and Aimee Semple McPherson to get the “anointing” from their bones.(Benny Hinn, “Double Portion Anointing, Part #3” (Orlando Christian Center, n.d.), audio tape #A031791-3, sides 1 and 2. This sermon was also aired on TBN (7 April 1991).)
Direct Appearances of the Risen Christ in person
Paul Yonggi Cho — pastor of the world’s largest church, located in Seoul, South Korea — claims to have received his call to preach from Jesus Christ Himself, who supposedly appeared to him dressed like a fireman. (Dwight J. Wilson, “Cho, Paul Yonggi,” Dictionary of Pentecostal and Charismatic Movements, 161.).
Direct Personal Words from God
Cho recently made the news by changing his name from Paul to David. As Cho tells the story, God showed him that Paul Cho had to die and David Cho was to be resurrected in his place. According to Cho, God Himself came up with his new name.(Paul Yonggi Cho interviewed by C. Peter Wagner, “Yonggi Cho Changes His Name,” Charisma & Christian Life, November 1992, 80.).
Personal transports to the actual presence of God himself
Morris Cerullo purports to have first met God at the tender age of eight. Since then his life has been one mind-blowing experience after another: he says he was taught by leading rabbis;(“God’s Faithful, Anointed Servant, Morris Cerullo” (promotional literature, on file).) led out of a Jewish orphanage by two angelic beings; (Cerullo, The Miracle Book, ix; and 7 Point Outreach — World Evangelism and You (pamphlet), 4.) transported to heaven for a face-to-face meeting with God;(Cerullo, The Miracle Book, xi.) and told he would be capable of revealing the future.
Extra Biblical Truth
Benny Hinn has uttered the claim that the Holy Spirit revealed to him that women were originally designed to give birth out of their sides.(Benny Hinn, “Our Position In Christ #5 — An Heir of God” (Orlando, FL: Orlando Christian Center, 1990), audio tape #A031190-5, side 2.).
Time Travel
Hagin claims he was in the middle of a sermon when, suddenly, he was transported back in time. He ended up in the back seat of a car and watched as a young woman from his church committed adultery with the driver. The entire experience lasted about fifteen minutes, after which Hagin abruptly found himself back in church, summoning his parishioners to prayer. (Kenneth E. Hagin, The Glory of God (Tulsa, OK: Kenneth Hagin Ministries, 1987), 13-15.).
Notice that all these claims of visions are completely unverifiable.  Secondly, some of these visions contradict what God's Word reveals about those who had visions or were in the presence of God.   The Prophet Isaiah had to be purified. He felt completely unworthy and cried out "Woe to me! I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty." (Isaiah 6:5).  John The Apostle, in his vision, "fell at his feet as though dead" (Rev. 1:17).  Abraham even stated that he felt like nothing more than dust and ashes before God (Gen. 18:27).  These Word of Faith teachers have casual entertaining conversations with a being they claim is God.  Seeing as how much of their teachings are heresy, it is impossible for them to be in the presence of God himself and live to tell about it. The issue is, in order for them to have their outlandish teachings they must claim something that is outside of scripture and unverifiable.  Their followers have no choice but to accept what they teach.  These teachers can not condemn each other because if they do so, they contradict themselves.  Also, since they quote God or Jesus, that makes their quotations Holy Scripture.  According to the claims this must be.  When they say "God said ____ to me" it is then God's Word.  If not, then they are a liar.  Again, their claims must be accepted as truth or they are a horrendous blasphemous liar.  Yet, when their teachings, which were revealed to them, do contradict God's actual Word, what then?
Doctrine of The Bible
the Bible “is the wisdom of God placed in covenant contract….Everything in it is mine….You just keep looking at it, and keep reading it, and that covenant will turn you into that kind of person — whatever it is you decide to be.”(Copeland, The Abrahamic Covenant, side 1.)
Truth:  The Bible is NOT ABOUT YOU.  The entire Bible is about JESUS "You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me;" (John 5:39).  "but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name."  (John 20:31).   "These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life."  (1 John 5:13) CONCLUSION It may seem that with all the variety of teachers and teachings that the Word of Faith doctrines are complicated but in fact they are not.  They can be summed up like this: God is more like man and man is more like God.  Jesus is like God, but not God, yet man can be like Jesus and thus can be like God.  Because of this, man can create and speak nothing into something by using their words and projecting their faith force.  This is revealed because of a handful of people claimed to have visions and experiences with whom they perceived to be God.  In a simple nutshell:  Man can be God and use godlike powers to be happy, wealthy, and healthy in this world.  This is not a complete summation of all that the collective Word of Faith teachers claim, but enough to see that they are false prophets who are leading MANY astray. But any honest and genuine believer who tests what they are told (1 John 4:1) against God's divine Holy Word can easily see how they are false prophets who deceive for material gain and status power. Heads up from The Holy Spirit: But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these.  (2 Timothy 3:1-5) Also read The Errors of The Modern Prosperity Gospel and Health, Wealth, Happiness, and Prosperity Teaching If you have any questions or comments about this article please contact us or join our discussion forms

if you were around for the pre-end-of-mh days you might remember times i like to talk to myself extensively, pointlessly, and dumbassedly about my own thoughts, which go nowhere and solve nothing. literally ignore me, talking about bring me the spider cup, i wanna prank crimmins natcho. my proclivity towards trying to figure out mysteries is matched only by my total inability to do so.
firstly i was like ok, this doesn’t necessarily mean eno knows who this guy is, which i think is true but unlikely. he’s probably met him before and while i think it would be funny if this is all some roundabout unnecessary revenge scheme by someone who considers eno his rival, i’d think it was more likely eno was kind of in a position like wallace where maybe they just worked in the same place. (sidenote: he is so clearly evil how do people share an office with him. please fix this mess jerry)
becoz the thing is it was a bit strange eno said he couldnt take a client via a social workers request with the reasoning that he’d left that life behind him? because he is a therapist now after all. but it would make more sense if he used to maybe be associated with / work for a company like that. i dont even know anything about privatised versions of social work but maybe it could work like that. and maybe he worked with crimcrom because sure, maybe crimmins just murdered his way into head of a company or other unsavory methods, and/or maybe also he has actual experience in the field. because maybe he was working at the same place as eno?
because honestly if i was going to take a very vague guess of where the social work is involved here, its that if youre going to do terrible dangerous medical experiments on people, you take people who have connections without the wealth/time/stability to investigate or else just people who wont be missed at all. people whose debilitating struggles and unstable situations you actually have documentation of. and it does seem like everyone with someone missing was relying on kent and co. to find them, because they couldnt themselves, because their sibling/whomever had been targeted for that exact reason, that their family/friends wouldnt have the means to find them. probably this has been going on for a while and most people are just killed and those who arent are kinda just chucked out somewhere to be found by whoever
anyways, the thing with eno, the idea he was working with/for a company earlier is a bit confusing too because its confusing that kent and yumi were killed but eno wasnt? theres the chance that the attempt simply failed, but i had thought that maybe because eno wasnt the semi-public face of the effort like kent was or an official worker like yumi, maybe nobody who put the hit out knew he was even involved. but since im guessing we’re guessing crimmins was directly/indirectly involved in the Day Of Murder and he knows about eno, thats not true……but then its a bit fuzzier why eno wasnt killed if he wasnt just helping out as a friend but sort of associated with his work, like yumi was. maybe it was part of a longer con, like as might be made clearer soonish. because unfortunately i really doubt crim would show his hand like this if he wasnt secure in everything favoring his schemes currently
it also makes sense that eno had been in a position like yumi’s because im also assuming eno thinks its his own files that someone had got hold of. cuz if yumi and kent had the same papers, surely eno did too. and if he was just keeping them to himself it would be one thing but if he was using them with his work like yumi was, then maybe it happened like he said it did only with his file/company in place of yumi’s. which makes sense coz of why he is so uncomfortable and why he was so surprised about it. probably he didnt suppose it had happened until kip said it did, and he suspects it was on his end that it happened but doesnt want to say it because its unpleasant and because he doesnt want to say it to kip.
i was hoping that gayness would be the wrench in the gears aka kip wasnt supposed to learn of the link between kents files and wallaces, but maybe he actually absolutely was? it would make sense why crimmins was so keen to make sure wallace got kip to work with him. because unless it is remarkably nuanced i doubt part of his plan involves trying to get wallace to directly harm anyone, cuz obvs he wouldnt, he is just motivated to not get fired and hopefully do good work. but it seems like a safe guess that kip would see wallaces papers even though kip really should be getting paid for this, and maybe crimmins was assuming that kip had already seen kents file? because if he had worked with eno and gotten his files, he would basically know what must be in kents files. and it apparently wasnt a secret that the files had made it out of the fire with kip
but its a hell of a con because its like, it seemed like a bonus that kip realized the coincidence, because why would crimmins want kip to suspect that wallace is somehow connected with the scheme that kent was investigating / his family and yumi were killed for? but apparently he could guess that kip would meet with eno about it, because i guess he’s tracking one or both of them. speaking of, im hoping that kip hasnt just gotten jumped. im sure its a concern on the best of days that eno told him to be safe, but it seems ominous
just like it seemed ominous when kip told wallace he trusts eno more than anyone. wallace sure learned a lot in those couple of days, namely: he already knows where kip lives exactly and who with and that they are good friends (not sure how coincidental it is that they live in the exact same building, maybe its just convenient), who kip’s ex-boyfriend is and where he works and who he works with and that he and kip have Strong Feelings for each other, who kip’s therapist is and that he sees him once a week and is a old and close friend whom kip trusts above all others, and i’m sure wallace has been able to pick up that kip has a dead brother and theres a story behind it and its a touchy subject. i mean, that’s mostly completely irrelevant info to put into a report, but maybe not if it was relevant to mention that he was working with kip since after all his boss had told him to. but probably crimmins was guessing that if wallace was making headway at all, he had got hold of kip. and since apparently he has eyes on people, that helps too. fix it jerry
im not thinking that its ominous that kip trusts eno so much because he shouldnt or because eno has been lying all along or something—like, if eno suspects himself for being involved in something now, im supposing he hadnt thought so before or hadnt considered it mattered because everything about how everything happened was moot because nobody was going to be continuing the matter and everyone was leading totally different lives. and as for currently, its not like i think eno is like, having the past catch up with him aka he’s betrayed kip or anyones trust before. i mean maybe eno has some totally unrelated dark secret that can be held over him, but even then i doubt that it would be anything where he would be forced to do something to endanger kip to protect himself. rather, i’d guess he might be given more of a non-choice in which he has to do something that will endanger kip because the threat is of causing kip immediate harm. what seems worst is that crimmins is really showing his hand early here maybe, or anyways, he thinks that theres no possible way for eno to prevent whatever crim wants to have happen. which is like, bad
and if he knows how much kip trusts eno, which he probably does, thats bad too…
if wallaces only purpose though was to show kip the files he had, that also has to mean rousing kip’s suspicion…..also, if kip had known about kents files before he’d seen wallace’s, wouldnt he potentially be immediately suspicious enough of wallace to cut off ties with him? maybe that doesn’t matter idk. b/c tbh it seems like theres only so much you can do w/ wallace while preserving his “unwitting involvement in an evil scheme” status, you cant ask him to do anything non-job related. unless his reports are doubling as surveillance or something. but he wouldnt do anything he thought was harmful or over his bounds. even asking him to get kip involved was weird, but at least crim seemed to accurately count on wallace caring too much abt his job to object with stuff rather than simply doing what he had to to keep it
like, clearly something about kip is important to crim’s schemes but how could i guess what. because im guessing we dont have enough information yet, but even if you gave me the info we have now and told me to fill in the blanks however i wanted, i couldnt come up with anything. im really really dumb as hell and not creative enough to take the ventures required to come up with accurate theories. but ok, medical experiments, it could just be anti-monster, but it could also be pro-human which happens to be anti-monster aka more exploitative. cuz it doesnt seem like theyre “Kill All Monsters” as much as “its fine if monsters die but if theyre alive we’ll just dump them somewhere because we just literally assign them no value unless somehow they’re useful towards whatever’s going on here.”
coz kip has two powers: 1) he’s a beloved semipublic figure, and 2) ice and he’s cold
and he has one majorly exploitable weakness in that he’s very afraid for his surrogate family, generally more scared than the average person of being murdered horribly, and knows he has good reasons for that and also trauma
but it seems like if crim wanted to get hold of kip by threatening his loved ones, he could do that at any time? why would wallace need to be involved at all; he wouldnt. why does he need to tip kip off about his own schemes. why did he need to wait five years? why has there been this five year gap? simply development of the mystery scheme? or is it because kip has moved back to c and/or because kip is a semi-public figure again
coz reading between the lines but im supposing that kip had earnestly and strongly intended to follow in kent’s footsteps but was presumably discouraged from this when his family was murdered. but even tho he only told wallace about moving back to c because roy and molly missed it, in the intervention that gets sprung on him and other hints, it sounds like kip still considers himself dedicated to helping people like kent did, which is what his sjw blog is, but he’s majorly aware of the danger of that and unwilling to get anyone killed this time, which is a major limitation, seeing as that happened to him before and everyone is disappeared all the time w/o repercussion. except the repercussion of one tiny group of people who look into it and get murdered, except for eno
but also kip must not have been doing any Helping The Public stuff before he moved to C, because when he says he has to help wallace to justify having thrown so much away, and considering how he’d lost so much in the fire, presumably what he’s thrown away is his life with pascal. im guessing he couldnt have made roy and molly split from him even if he tried, but pascal apparently could be parted from. for like a week, but whatever. he’d been dating pascal before the fire, but if he hadnt been involved in any position of openly helping monsters before the fire and hadnt before moving back to C, that explains why he tried to convince pascal not to go with them.
anyways, uh, see ive lost track of what i was saying. that, while kip is so afraid for the safety of those too close to him, he can also be pressured into a riskier position. but thats by his friends and himself. but maybe if he’s going to be given false information he thinks is from eno, he could do other risky things too. cuz i doubt theres any real protection, as if kent and yumi and eno werent trying to be safe. im guessing kip’s just trying to keep his head down and his cards close to his chest. its frustrating because technically he was right to be immediately suspicious of wallace to the point of associating him with the death of his family and being afraid of helping wallace, but not because wallace’s personal intentions arent good. but still its going to be really awkward if kip gets an idea of what wallace is associated with. cuz its an extremely delicate process that would allow wallace to figure out what was going on and break the news to kip and have kip trust him, so delicate that i doubt it exists and anyways the odds are not in its favor. but its frustrating because i want people to not be friends and not feel betrayed by their bosses and each other and even better, to be friends working together to resolve murders and an evil scheme
anyways. what does crim need from kip. stuff he knows? i doubt he’s trying to corrupt kip’s blog, or otherwise exploit the fact that kip’s probably a trusted community figure. for starters, crim’s already been getting away completely with abduction, murder, arson, etc, for years. unless theres some new Phase of the plan that requires something new. but again, it seems like a big ol coincidence that kip and co moved to C five months before wallace was moved into their exact building with the goal of getting involved with kip, tho wallace obviously doesnt know about all that stuff yet. why does it matter that kips in C. did crim not know where he was prior? did he need kip to be involved in the public sphere so that he could catch hold of him by sending out a social worker too naive and earnest to focus on the suspicious evilness of his new boss? did he just not need kip yet???
it seems strange to consider that crim could like, blackmail or threaten either kip or eno longterm. like, is he about to make a move here. because yeah they both have reasons to be extremely protective of people, which can be leveraged. but like wallace, i dunno how far they could be pushed with doing anything obviously harmful, or doing anything for anyone so obviously evilly motivated. or how long such a chokehold could be maintained. eno being threatened with kip’s wellbeing and being pressured into manipulating kip in one way or another is one thing, and even then how could he be threatened more than once. how could he be expected not to do something to warn someone if the pressing is let up for even a moment? is the point to abduct eno maybe and make kip feel even more afraid, because that would probably admittedly be super effective, but i imagine kip would just withdraw completely from things like being involved with wallace, blogging, etc. but to try to coerce kip into doing something by threatening multiple people is trickier, and what could kip do?
the thing is that i could see kip as being targeted for the ice thing, because thats another coincidence, that he has a really strong ability that seems pretty unusual even for monsters. like, freezing freshly brewed hot tea in a few seconds is really something. and i’m supposing he survived the fire by freezing himself / ice protection, which is really really something. and maybe the fact that he’s also an sjw who’s always scared that someones going to get hurt or killed is just a way to get to him. coz maybe, even probably, kip wasnt supposed to survive the fire, but just be another casualty because crim and co do not give a shit about bothering to spare any monsters life. but the fact that he did, using ice, and that he had his brothers files, all probably wasnt a secret. i mean, the surviving and the files part definitely wasnt, but just knowing the place was on fire and he survived ok probs implies that he had the ability to protect himself somehow, and thats a really impressive ability
so like maybe whatever traits theyre looking for makes kip the ideal target. maybe for once they felt like they couldnt just steal him away normally, but idk why they wouldnt. for example if crim just wanted to kidnap kip, maybe he just has. but that seems like wallace wouldnt need to be involved and eno wouldnt need to be involved and why wait til he’s in C? he doesnt need flushing out to be stolen off the street; he travels to B at least once a week on a schedule and he walks to work.
again, probably theres necessary info we dont even have that will fill in a missing piece here, but even now im too stupid to expand on the stuff we know to imagine up something that would fill in that blank. im too horrible at reading/understanding peoples motivations to even fully Get basic interactions sometimes, and im too uncreative to even come up with stuff like say, guess what crim’s trying to develop over there. maybe theres something about moving from development to initiation that needs kip’s particular involvement (??how??). but why has there been five years of them having been left alone in D, maybe, although how do we even know that
idk all i know is im stupid and i dont like that everyone is going to be even more miserable and endangered and mysteries are a trial for me because i want to die and dont want to have to deal with dying on a cliffhanger, i’ll be an angry ghost. ive probably forgotten a tangent or two i wanted to touch on and that makes me an angry pre-ghost. w/e

Hillary Clinton Is The Actual, Literal, For Real Definition Of Big Money
Tumblr media
So now it is 2015 and when it comes to people running for president in 2016, it is obvious who is in and who is out. Anyone who hasn’t announced their candidacy by now, is simply going to miss out because a lot of presidential campaigns are announced at least a year in advance. When it comes to who is going to win the presidency, that is obvious too. Hillary Rodham Clinton. A lot of people are supporting her early, or at least her campaign would have you believe that all of these people are enthusiastic about her running. But of course, this is a small group of people who live in primary states that are pumped that presidential candidates acknowledge them every four years because, really, what do a lot of these states have going for them? But it isn’t Iowa, or New Hampshire, or any other primary state that will win her the presidency. It is the torrent of money she has gotten from every big pocketed billionaire and high end millionaire who has ever voted democratic that will put her in the White House and prolong the newly founded Clinton Dynasty. Now let me preface this article with letting you know that I identify as an independent politically and tend to agree with certain issues on both sides of the aisle.
A lot of people call Barack Obama “The Banker’s President” and that is absolutely true. When he came into office, the U.S. National Debt was a little over $10 trillion. That is trillion with a T! It is now $18 trillion. Do you see roads? Are subways being expanded to the far reaches of the county? No. This is bailout money or as it has been dubbed these days, “Quantitative Easing” that has buried us into a money hole that we, our children, and every person who ever calls themselves an American will ever be able pay back. There has been three deployments of Quantitative Easing (QE) after the initial bailout. Bailout has a negative sound to it. It makes it look like the people who take it are deadbeats and are just taking freeload money that they didn’t earn. But more importantly, it is a term that the common man can understand and respond to. Quantitative Easing however, sounds complicated. Economic talk, lawyer talk, Wall Street talk, stuff people on Main Street don’t have to bother with. This economy that we live in now, can in fact NOT function without Quantitative Easing because every single investor, businessman and banker on Wall Street who has been boosting the NASDAQ, Dow and S&P up to the record highs (which the mainstream media has been celebrating as a big success story and therefore encouraging more people to get into the market) are doing so because if they don’t make money off their investments, they have what is called “The Obama Put”. Gamble all the money you like and if you lose, you break even with QE. Now, Hillary Clinton will 100% have to continue this trend of insuring investments for the biggest of gamblers, the riskiest of risk takers, and the most dangerous of dangerous moneymen when she comes into office. She must. Just about any economist worth their salt will look at the way things are operated now and will see that without the QE money flowing in, the content, dependent, spoiled investors who have expanded their bank accounts to all time highs, and the markets reflecting the same, will simply implode if the ever flowing ATM in the form of a government safety net is taken from under them.
This can not happen. The easy money and infinite access these people are experiencing right now can not end. So what is their response? What is the next move in the game of chess that is government, business and economics? Donate to the Clinton campaign. They are making sure their lifestyle has been secured and agreed to before she ever takes office because no millionaire or billionaire would dare to elect a president who doesn’t maintain their lifestyle. And income inequality you say? Let’s address that….
Her position is that similar to the term heard in the movie Grease which is “the rules are there ain’t no rules” or in her case, “we respond to the issue by not responding to it”. Obama makes the mandatory “increase taxes on the rich” speech every so often, basically when the polls say he doesn’t care about all the people who elected him and Hillary will read those same lines from those very same teleprompters. There will be lines of increasing the minimum wage or expanding unemployment benefits but the big crowd winner is jacking up the taxes on the rich. It makes sense. I wouldn’t disagree with that. But she will do the furthest thing from it. No politician of influence, or power, or wealth, or indoctrinating Ivy League education will go against the very things that got them to the position they are in. Hillary not only holds up the status quo of this centuries old trend, she is the bright faced, enthusiastic poster child for it. When you vote for Hillary, when you buy the lines that have been recycled and fine tuned and spit out by so many of her ilk, make no mistake: you are voting 100%, with no wiggle room, for anything to be done about the oligarchy occurring in America as we see it today. There is no way anything can be done when she takes money from the wealthy, the connected, and also Super PAC’s like Priorities for the USA. A bit about them:
Hillary Clinton Has Started “Courting” Donors For The Priorities USA Super PAC, Becoming The First Democrat Candidate For President To Embrace A Group That Can Receive Unlimited Campaign Checks. “Hillary Rodham Clinton will begin personally courting donors for a ‘super PAC’ supporting her candidacy, the first time a Democratic presidential candidate has fully embraced these independent groups that can accept unlimited check from big donors and are already playing a major role in the 2016 race.” (Maggie Haberman and Nicholas Confessore, “Hillary Clinton Embraces A ‘Super PAC,’ Trying To Erode A Republican Edge,” The New York Times, 5/7/15)
It is of no surprise to me that Hillary Clinton would embrace such a PAC. This is a campaign that will stretch into the billions of dollars before the election year even hits and when the legit campaigning actually begins, it will increase from there. The more money that is thrown at it, the more people rally and have their two cents thrown in about how she is the greatest thing ever and will do much for them. People of the middle class who still believe in the American Dream and lift up the poor when they need it and work hard at their jobs and attend church as often as they can. They are the poster child on the other end. The “common man”. The ones who the politicians pretend to fight for to uphold the law because with out it, these wage earning, humble people would surely take to the streets and murder each other to no end and run free through the countryside with no semblance of reality or responsibility. But this isn’t about the middle class (which is a phrase they are refraining from using in her campaign) and definitely not the poor. This is all about her absolute and total power in Washington and prolonging the dynasty for as long as possible and setting the stage for Chelsea in 20XX.
Not all Americans are so gullible though. Some people want to work and would like to take a step towards the life that they have been raised to believe belongs to them since their childhood, but they can not find work. What is good for the markets, isn’t necessarily good for Joe Smith who lives in a small town in a flyover state who just wants to put food on the table. Protect the top, or protect the bottom. What does she say?
Whether Mrs. Clinton’s approach will be enough to satisfy the unease over growing economic disparity is unclear. In a Gallup poll conducted last month, 67 percent of Americans said they were dissatisfied with the way income and wealth are distributed in the United States. In the 2008 Democratic presidential primary, Mrs. Clinton’s economic message — summed up by a frequent refrain, “If you work hard, you play by the rules, you ought to be able to get ahead” — resonated with white, working-class voters, who overwhelmingly supported her over Barack Obama.- New York Times
Let me stop for a second. If you have gotten this far, you may have noticed that this article tends to be a bit cynical (which is true) but the fact of the matter is, this is what is happening. How can I look at things the way they are, trusting my gut instinct on observance of the trends in America and not lay it out like it is? Sugarcoating the truth does no one any good. With that said, should you vote? Vote for Hillary? Vote for Rand Paul? Vote for Bernie Sanders? Or for any candidate for that matter? To be honest, I don’t think so. I am going to go to the polling places and I am going to vote on the specific issues on hand and I will surely never vote for any specific politician ever again because the way things are, is not right. Seldom does a law get passed that gets Americans excited and hopeful about democracy in this country and makes us feel like one, like we all took part in it and our voices were heard. People thought there was a great shot at there being legitimate hope and change for the way things are when Barack Obama was running in 08′ but the fact of the matter is, there was an economic crisis that hit the country hard and whatever momentum we as Americans had going for us was stopped dead in it’s tracks.
I am not going to tell you how to vote. You can vote on whatever issue you like and that decision is yours and yours alone and it is your responsibility to uphold that decision and be proud of it. But to cast a vote for any more of these status quo candidates is just another boost you are giving them into their dominance in the ever growing, insatiable, endless corporatocracy. How you deal with what is happening in the United States is up to you. By all means, stay law abiding and dignified. Your God given right as an American to enjoy freedom and express your opinion in a respectful and true way is something that, not that they haven’t tried, can not be taken away from you. You are the next step. You are the change. You make the rules.

YOU GUYS I JUST THOUGHT OF THIS
Their craziness is the craziness of the idle everywhere. Avoid distractions. You have to know what the tricks are for growing fast. But although I can't explain in the general case. Teenagers. But everyone knows this is a labor of love and he wants it to be perfect.1 And the core problem in a different way, but to design beautiful rockets, or to write well, or to understand how to program computers.2
But they work as if they were doing for office space, and seemed surprised when I said we expected them to work out of whatever apartments they found to live in.3 In a sense there's just one mistake that kills startups: not making something users want, you'll be fine, responsible choices and yet, like Windows in the 90s, will destroy you if you fire anyone. Joshua Schachter gradually built Delicious on the side while working on their day jobs, consulting, profitable side-projects.4 Even for someone in the nineteenth century was not a fixed quantity that had to be memorized in order to protect the work they'd invested in a position on the corporate ladder is probably gone for good. I worry it's not merely unnecessary to learn in college had the same flaw: a very hard problem, but their approach was so bogus that there was little to learn from him. Because to the extent we're correct, those are the only things you need at first. If you're raising an angel round, the size of the round can even change on the fly. The most dangerous form of stupid comment is not the same as the cause of the problem.5 Merely looking for the word click will catch 79. If you watch little kids playing sports, you notice that below a certain age they're afraid of the ball. The only thing technology can't cheapen is brand. In almost any other kind of work is overpaid and another underpaid, what are we really saying?
Because of the circumstances in which they encounter it, children tend to misunderstand wealth. In the more common case, where founders and investors are equally represented and the deciding vote is cast by neutral outside directors, all the top five words here would be neutral and would not contribute to the spam probability.
