Symmetrical Bügs

Oh! that other anon's Beetle Encounter had me remember two excellent bugs, which I would like to humbly request. One is the goldsmith beetle, Cotalpa lanigera. They would congregate around the bathroom buildings at night in the park I used to work at, attracted to the lights. The other is the pandorus sphinx moth, Eumorpha pandorus. At that same job, my coworkers and I were sitting on the porch of the staff cabin when this HUGE flying thing came to the light. We thought it was a bat until we realized it was green, at which point we all decided we needed to catch it and ID it. I managed to snag it out of mid air with a bug net, and then we all took a ton of photos.

I love that! It's so cool to have those sorts of experiences with bugs.

Nut and Acorn Weevil (Genus Curculio), taken July 20, 2025, in New Hampshire, US

Quite the weevily weevil perching on a fallen branch! This individual was quite substantial, being larger than most weevils I see, and of course having a very long "nose". Most of the weevils in this genus look very similar, so I couldn't figure out what species this was, but I presume this is a type of acorn weevil due to its proximity to oak trees. I hope it found either a mate or some nice acorns to bore into after I left!

no id needed, just wanted to show this firefly who flew in during one of my shifts last week!! tried to get him outside but he just wouldnt </3 suffered an unfortunate fate called My Coworker's Shoe..

Sorry but what kind of sicko kills a firefly?
