The thing about Doctor Who couples is the variety.

Ian and Barbara are the cosy straight couple that you would assume to be boring but are actually really cool.

Tegan and Nyssa are the married bliss sapphic couple who spend their weekends baking bread and enjoying each others company.

Ben and Polly, meanwhile, are inappropriately horny all the time and do not care if you walk in on them getting frisky (as much as you wished they would).

Ace and Mel doubly so, with the added danger of actual explosives going off by mistake.

Instead, she raised her cup to her lips, hiding her face behind porcelain and steam. Ben and Polly's relationship fell apart after leaving the TARDIS, twice over. Eight years after leaving the Doctor behind, Ben wants to try again with the girl he never really got over.

Drawing in a deep, shuddering breath, Polly dropped her hands to flex her fingers at her sides, like she was bracing herself for something. “Everything was so much simpler,” she said. “When we were at the Inferno.” Despite himself, Ben let out a hollow laugh. “Was it?” He was pushing too far, letting his frustration grow – but it was burning in his chest, and the only thing that brought him any relief was to keep fanning the flames. If he tried hard enough, she might catch fire, too. She’d stop looking at him like that, all wet and sad and pitiful, like he’d wronged her. “You knew who I was from the start, you knew I wasn’t all high and mighty like you -” “It’s got nothing to do with that!” Her face was contorting in frustration. “It’s not about who you are, or who I am -” “Well, what’s it about, then?” Ben very nearly shouted back. “It’s because it’s not just a silly little crush anymore, that’s why!” she cried.

When Polly breaks from the Doctor's plan to free Ben from imprisonment, all Ben wants is for her to be honest about her feelings for him - but the answer he gets isn't the one he expected.

The Doctor realized that the TARDIS had stopped all the clocks out of respect for her fallen fellow TARDIS. Even after nine weeks of travel, they materialized nowhere close to Geshtinanna.
