An Analysis of the The UK Wizarding World Population
How Many Wizards Are There, Really?
Okay, so this started because I just needed to get this figured out. The numbers in the Wizarding World have always felt a little… off. So I decided to sit down and really work it out using the books, real-world stats, and some basic demographic logic to see what kind of population could actually support the magical society we see in the series.
I've done my best to be as thorough as possible, but of course, there are probably things I missed, details I overlooked, or assumptions that could be challenged. This isn’t meant to be a definitive answer, just a grounded, numbers-based attempt to reconcile the world we see in the books with what it would actually take to make that world function. Think of it less like a census and more like a curiosity-driven thought experiment. One that, once you start… you kind of can’t stop thinking about.
Okay, so how do we start? Well, we’re told several useful things in canon:
There are 7 years at Hogwarts.
There are 4 houses.
Each student is sorted into a house in their first year.
Using the books as a reference, we can start to gather some information to help us get a baseline for the population. Throughout all the novels, Harry names the following Gryffindors in his year:
Ron Weasley
Neville Longbottom
Dean Thomas
Seamus Finnigan
Hermione Granger
Parvati Patil
Lavender Brown
If there had been anyone else in his year, I am making the assumption that they would have been mentioned. This means there were a total of 8 Gryffindors that year. However, in several scenes throughout the books, we do see joint house classes and various comments are made that allow us to make assumptions about other houses.
For example, in first year flying lessons, it is said that when Harry arrived, there were "twenty broomsticks lying in neat lines on the ground". Thus, there were 12 Slytherins with the 8 Gryffindors. This would give an average of 10 students per house per year during Harry's time. In total, that's approximately 40 students per year, meaning a total of 280 students in the school across the 7 years. This also implies that there are only approximately 40 magical children are born per year in the UK.
Next we can apply a simplified demographic model used to estimate how many people are alive in a population at any given time if the population is stable:
Population size = Annual birth rate Average lifespan
We know wizards live longer than muggles, so lets assume a average life span of 120.
4,800 = 40 × 120
Now, if you're like me, you're looking at this total thinking "that is a tiny number of wizarding folk". So, I'd like to point out a few factors that we should consider:
Birth rates during war
Society and the economy
1. War-time Birth Rates
First, let's start with war-time birth rates. Looking at a real-world example, "by 1914, the birthrate was around 2.88 children per woman, but by 1918 this had collapsed by almost 50%".
Students who arrived at Hogwarts in 1991 (Harry's year) must have been conceived during the year of 1979. Importantly, the First Wizarding War lasted from 1970 to 1981, and thus we can conclude that wizarding births would presumably have also significantly decreased during this period of time.
So, assuming twice the number of magical births per year, that would give us:
9,600 = 80 × 120
Double our original value, but once you step back and consider the infrastructure, complexity, and institutions that we’re shown in the books, it still seems tiny.
With this in mind, I will shift my focus from population biology to sociological and economic modeling.
What do we actually see in wizarding society? Even filtered through the narrow, teen-focused lens of Harry’s POV, the wizarding world contains infrastructure, complexity, and economic specialization that a population of just 4,000 could never realistically support.
2. Society and the Economy
Hogwarts
A fully staffed residential boarding school with:
Multiple subject specialists
Caretakers, groundskeepers, nurses, kitchen staff
Expensive magical architecture, security, and upkeep
Referred to as the only wizarding school in the UK
Revered internationally (seen as elite)
If we assume the oft-cited (if narratively inconsistent) “1,000 students at Hogwarts” figure from J.K. Rowling’s 2000 Scholastic chat is correct at peak capacity, then: 1,000 students ÷ 7 years = ~140 students per year Now apply the lifespan-based model: 14,000 = 140 × 100
Even this is conservative in my opinion, but it's better than our original figure! So let's continue...
2. St. Mungo’s Hospital
A multi-ward medical institution
Staffed with Healers, assistants, and administration
Serves everything from spell damage to long-term care
Using a conservative UK hospital ratio, 1 bed hospital bed per 100 people gives us 30,000 magical people served.
3. Ministry of Magic
The Ministry includes:
At least 7 named departments
Subdivisions like Aurors
Full-time court officials (Wizengamot), clerks, obliviators, diplomats, and more
In the real-world, the UK government employs (500,000 / 67,000,000) × 100 = ~0.7% of the population.
Even if the Ministry is bloated (as governments often are) and employs 1,000 people, then 1,000 / 0.007 = ~140,000 magical citizens.
Now, if these figures aren't enough for your consideration, I have a few more...
4. Azkaban
Azkaban is a high-security, long-term prison used to hold:
Violent criminals
Political prisoners
Entire cells full of Death Eaters
In real life, most countries don’t operate entire island prisons unless they have substantial incarceration numbers. For comparison, Alcatraz housed ~250–300 inmates and still required a significant support system.
Even if only 1% of magical adults ever serve prison time, that implies a population large enough to make Azkaban worth running, once again suggesting a base of at least tens of thousands, not a few thousand.
5. Magical Economy
In the novels, we see:
Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade packed with specialty shops (wandmakers, potion ingredients, magical pets, etc.)
Flourish & Blotts hosts author signings
The Daily Prophet is a fully operational national newspaper
Magical public transportation (Knight Bus, Floo Network)
Owl delivery services
An economy with this degree of specialization requires thousands of consumers and enough income diversity to support luxury, artisan, and utility goods.
And it's not just about who's buying the goods, but who is making, sourcing, or importing them. For example, consider Madam Malkin’s Robes. Even if we assume that much of the tailoring and enchanting is done in-house, the materials must come from somewhere. Who harvests the acromantula silk? Who spins it? Who processes the dragonhide for protective gloves or boots? Even something as seemingly simple as standard Hogwarts robes likely requires inputs from weavers, dyers, and delivery couriers. And that's just one shop. Now multiply that by the dozens of boutiques in Diagon Alley, the merchants in Hogsmeade, and the countless magical goods required to support the average household, hospital, school, and Ministry office.
6. Decentralized Communities and Regional Infrastructure
So far, this entire model assumes that magical Britain is highly centralized, with everything flowing through Diagon Alley and London, but that assumption doesn’t hold up to scrutiny and and recent additions to the canon support a more distributed magical landscape. In Hogwarts Legacy, we’re introduced to several small magical hamlets throughout the Scottish Highlands, indicating that rural magical communities do exist and have their own localized economies. This aligns more with how real-world populations are distributed.
It also raises a practical question: are magical families in Wales or Scotland or Ireland really expected to travel to London just to purchase school supplies when they have their own major cities? The idea that there’s a single alleyway to serve the entire magical population of the British Isles is logistically absurd. Even if Diagon Alley is the largest and most famous commercial center, it cannot be the only one. There must be regional tailors, wandmakers, apothecaries, and general suppliers, especially for families that aren’t wealthy or well-connected.
This suggests the existence of dozens of small to mid-sized magical communities, each requiring their own economic base, service providers, and integration into the broader magical world. And that, in turn, implies a significantly larger national population to justify and sustain this decentralized infrastructure.
All in all, this implies a significant consumer base. However, an important consideration is that unlike Muggles, wizards can:
Automate household chores (e.g., cleaning, cooking)
Teleport instantly (no need for extensive infrastructure)
Heal injuries and illnesses faster
Use magic to farm, manufacture, and repair with fewer people
Reduce logistics and transportation burdens
Thus, while a Muggle society might need 250,000–300,000 people to support, let's assume a magical society could feasibly do it with half the number of people.
3. A Final Number
Taking the narrative, demographic, economic, and institutional factors together, a reasonable, grounded estimate for the population of the British and Irish wizarding world would fall between 100,000 and 150,000 witches and wizards.
While wizards benefit from magical efficiencies that reduce their reliance on large labor forces (e.g., using magic for transportation, food preparation, and household tasks), the complexity of their institutions still demands a much larger population than the original 4,000 estimate suggested by Hogwarts class sizes alone. Even assuming magical productivity multiplies output, the sheer diversity and durability of magical Britain’s institutions point to a minimum six-figure population.
At 100,000 individuals out of roughly 67 million total in the UK, that makes magical folk ~0.15% or roughly 1 in every 667. In a city the size of Manchester with 570,000 people, about 850 would be magical.
Now, in 2022, the UK had ~5.3 million people aged 11–17 out of ~67 million, giving us ~7.9%. If the total magical population is estimated at 100,000, then the number of Hogwarts aged children would be 100,000 × 0.079 = 7,900.
At this point, however, we begin to see the unavoidable tension between narrative design and realistic population modeling, as we certainly never see anything close to 8,000 students at Hogwarts in canon material. Class sizes are small. Dormitories are intimate. Teachers give individualized attention. There are no massive dining queues. J.K. Rowling herself has contradicted the books in interviews. So what do we do with this contradiction?
8. A Top-Heavy Age Pyramid
We know that Wizards live significantly longer than Muggles. Dumbledore was over 115 at his death. If wizards live ~120 years on average, then this would impact the age structure of the wizarding world. It’s possible the population is top-heavy, with a disproportionately large number of elderly witches and wizards and fewer magical children born each year.
This structure isn’t unprecedented. In the real world, countries like Japan face a similar demographic challenge. As of 2022, 29% of Japan’s population was aged 65 or older, and the national fertility rate was just 1.26 children per woman, far below the replacement level of 2.1.
Applying the same logic to the wizarding world, it’s reasonable to assume that even with a total population of around 100,000 witches and wizards, only a small fraction, perhaps just 3%, would fall within the 11 to 17 age range. That would yield approximately 3,000 school-aged children, translating to roughly 400 students per year at Hogwarts, or about 100 students per house per year.
While numbers like 400 students per year or 3,000 total may sound large compared to what we see in the books, it's important to remember we're talking about a massive, enchanted castle. Hogwarts is likely capable of adjusting itself to fit the needs of its population. We’ve seen magical spaces, like tents and suitcases, that are significantly larger on the inside than they appear from the outside, and it stands to reason that Hogwarts’ dormitories, classrooms, and common rooms function in much the same way. So even if the student body expands or contracts from year to year, the school is almost certainly built and enchanted to scale accordingly.
9. Final Thoughts
So, what does all of this actually mean?
Well, it means the Wizarding World is bigger than we’re led to believe. Not just in terms of geography or magic, but in terms of sheer numbers. If we take the books at face value, we get tiny class sizes and a population that feels more like a close-knit village. But when you start looking at the complexity of the institutions, the economy, the Ministry, the infrastructure... it just doesn’t add up unless the population is much, much larger.
That doesn’t mean the books are wrong, they just show us one very specific lens: the extraordinary life of a teenager who isn’t particularly concerned with census figures or economic modeling. But if you zoom out and think about what it would really take to make that world function? In my opinion, you end up somewhere around 100,000 to 150,000 witches and wizards, maybe more.
Anyway, I had to work it out. And now maybe you don’t have to.
Or maybe you will. Because once you start thinking about this stuff… you kind of can’t stop.

I told I would show up eventually and here I am (even tho i should be asleep)
for the design lab: Sweetheart oc
1. What's your listener's name and nickname?
Cassiel (chosen name), commonly referred to as Sneaks or Cass (still called Sweetheart by Milo)
2. What's their backstory?
Cassiel comes from a family of five, having one older and one younger brother (Jonah and Raphael respectively). He comes from a well-off family, high middle class, both parents work in healthcare. Their older brother is studying to become a surgeon, and their younger brother wants to become a sculptor but is being pressured to pursue a science instead. Typically Cass doesn’t get as much feedback about their carer from their parents. A few times it was suggested they should become a teacher or a lawyer, but Cass never liked the idea of those. He never considered going into medicine, since they knew how much it strained their family, and they wanted to do something outside of the beaten path. Make a name for themselves as *Cassiel* not as a Grandwood (family name). Because their parents worked such hectic hours, Cass was often the one to watch their little brother in the evenings/weekends, and did not have free time for themselves because of this. They were not a very social child either, obsessed with books—mystery books in particular—and pouring themselves into their studies so they don’t get chewed out for their grades. When they found out that they were empowered, being the only one in their family to be empowered, they were very freaked out. They were only 13, and had no one to turn to. One of his teachers, also empowered, alerts Mazeed al-Masih (goes by Maze generally) who is a department worker, and he teaches Cass everything they need to know. They find out the opportunities they now have because they are empowered, things he didn’t even dream about, and he sets off for DAMN university as soon as he’s graduated high school. DAMN is in a different state than Cass, despite being the closest, so this does separate them from their family, and they don’t make a habit of keeping in contact with anyone but their little brother. They make it their mission to become an Investigator, and the best one around at that.
3. What's the desired aesthetic of your listener character (punk, greaser, bimbo, scene kid, schoolgirl)?
Kinda thinking punk meets 1920’s investigator. If that makes sense. idk if it does.
4. What's your listener's gender presentation like?
Trans-masc, usually says that they’re non-binary. (they/he pronouns)
5. What's your listener's ethnicity?
Irish
6. What's your listener's age?
33
7. What's your listener's body type/build?
I’m not sure any official words for it, but like a volleyball/swimmer build (they played volleyball since middle school)
8. What's your listener's star sign?
Sagittarius
9. What are your listener's most important relationships and who are they connected to?
Familial (both found and blood): The pack, Mazeed, Raphael (little brother), their friends from DAMN, the rest of their family to an extent
10. What's your listener's hobbies/interests?
Reading, puzzles (both jigsaw and things like crosswords/sudoku/etc), walks/cafe visits to people watch, volleyball
11. If your listener was a deity from a known mythology, what deity would they be?
Athena
12. What Audio RP series are they from?
Redacted Audio (if you couldn’t tell)
13. What kind of lover are they to their partner/what kind of friend are they?
They’re pretty attentive to the ones they love. If there’s the tiniest thing that they notice they’re going to attempt to fix it. Very much a quality time/acts of service guy. Some would think that because of the effort they put into their work, they wouldn’t be a very good lover and those people are very very wrong. They will make time for everything (even if it nearly kills them)
14. What is something/are some things that your listener values?
Family, justice, quality time (if that counts??)
15. Pick a song that you think represents your listener.
Second Child, Restless Child by The Oh Hellos
16. What's the inspiration behind your listener's design?
Honestly a lot of Cass’ design/vibe is just a mash of a bunch of things I enjoy in a character, but the main thing i think of when i think of him is “tasks themselves with fixing the world” and a lot of 1920’s snuff films. Cass is definitely my most chaotic oc so far.
17. Could you give me a vague concept of what your listener's visual vibe is?
Fashionable when trying, very cozy when they’re not. They’re very intimidating when they dress up, usually has rings and the like on. If it’s for work, it’s very much business attire with a few personal touches that won’t get them in trouble (their rings, for example). If it’s a casual day in with Milo/the pack they let themselves dress cozier with over sized sweaters and such.
18. What are some extra tidbits you wanna tell me about your listener?
This kinda goes with the program but i kinda wanna stress how stubborn (maybe headstrong is a better word idk) they are. They will do something the hardest way because that’s how they started it and they don’t want to change plans now. They also have a necklace that their little brother gave them that they won’t take off. I think that’s all I wanna mention.
LaVeau-gue - design #004 - Sweetheart - Cassiel - Pluto
Tumblr media
I haven't touched this series in a while but I'm back at it and starting it up slowly with Pluto's Sweetheart, Cassiel!
Design Notes
I would say this was difficult to design but that would be a lie. Instead I will say that it was fun to mess with this design.
First off, my major considerations were that this was a design for sweetheart, it was supposed to be inspired by Athena, it was noir punk and that you're a Percy Jackson fan (debatable since you like the movies but oookaaayyy/j).
So for this, I wanted to lean into different things; Cassiel should look put together but similalry uncooperative-you mention that growing up, they got good grades but did so for the sake of earning them to pass off as a good student rather than having a love for it. Additionally, the mention of their love of puzzles as well as their meticulous attention to detail concerning their loved ones gave me a good idea of what their shape language should be.
Cassiel reads someone who is somewhat athletic, attentive and keen to question things so while their hair might be slicked back, their posture upright and their attire somewhat kept, they do not concede to the complete idea of being wholely tidy by appearance. Following old british punk influence, I loosened Cassiel's tie, gave him a blue patch in their nice dress pants, added a blue studded belt and choker while also giving them a fishnet top which is more emo than punk but the addition of it feels it's anti-DUMP dresscode so I ran with that.
I did take note of Cassiel's penchant for dressing up and rings but elected that such a look would not be regular enough to make up for a complete design so I leaned away from that and into something that Cassiel would wear while in the field.
Finally, after those aspects, I then leaned into their athena inspiration and DUG for some inspiration from Epic The Musical-that led me to using blues and grays within the design BUT the majority of the influence came from the concept of barn owls. This shaped out with their hair being slicked back, their colour pallette mimicking the same distribution of colour across a barn owl's feathers as well as the framing of his face. As a smaller note, I gave them blonde hair and a grey streak as a callback to annabeth who sports that kind of hair in the PJO books if I'm not mistaken.
I hope I did you concept some justice with this design @agentplutonium!

Jaehaera Targaryen
Rickon Stark
Valyrian Alphas and Omegas are rare, a class where the old Valyrians would (with magic at the time) change their sexes accordingly to match the ideal parts of their presentation (Alphas with cocks, Omegas with cunts). The change is most painful for a male Valyrian Omega, as it often involves castration and months-long process of the body developing a womb and vaginal productive system. The change often made it easier for male omegas to handle birthing, and for female alphas to bond with and mate male omegas.
Jacaerys is a Valyrian Omega. He spent nearly half a year a-bed during his presentation.
Baela is a Valyrian Alpha, Daemon’s particular pride and joy.
Alpha-Omega relationships are most ideal, as well as Alpha-Alpha. Omega-Omega is not common. The only pairing that is subject to criticism and often humiliation is Beta-Omega.
True or Fated bond mates exist, but are rarely encountered (among high-folk mostly because arranged marriages and such). Characterized by an irresistible draw to each other, and the inability to mate with any other if they’ve met their fated mate. Any pre-existing bonds are often rejected and dissolved (by magic ABO happenings). Cregan and Jacaerys are one such pair, of course.
Side note: I cannot believe that while looking up when all the characters were born, that Arra Norrey was apparently born sometime before 116 AC. Jacaerys was born late 114 AC, so if we go by that reference of age, Arra may have been a child bride. Then again, she was said to be Cregan’s childhood best friend, and Cregan is about 6 years older than Jace.
Also, these ages are so screwed, it’s a whole mental map trying to set everything so they don’t conflict with times and each other ages. :P Also show timeline does not match book timeline, so that adds another hiccup. At this point, I’m basically mix-and-matching.
Basic Plot Points:
What if Rhaenyra did worry about what her first pregnancy with Harwin’s child that resulted in Jace, about his looks? And she grew so worried and disappointed when he did inherit Harwin’s colorings that she gave him away out of desperation.
A few days after Jacaerys’ birth, when rumors grew of Rhaenyra’s infidelity to Laenor, Rhaenyra arranged to have Jacaerys “kidnapped” or “killed” and one of her ladies-in-waiting took the babe away from the Keep and gave him to a random woman on the street, who turned out to be one of the whores of the Street of Silk. Could be Mysaria. Vermax had hatched and bonded with Jace, so Mysaria is stuck with a baby and his dragon.
Despite her disapproval of Rhaenyra’s affair with Harwin Strong resulting in a child, Alicent found it more insulting and repulsive that Rhaenyra obviously arranged the disappearance of her first-born. It grew more bothersome when Rhaenyra continued the affair and produced Lucerys and Joffrey, and kept them to avoid anymore suspicion that she was getting rid of her bastards. Rhaenyra was also weighed with the guilt of giving away her first baby boy, and heavily regretted it after experiencing the joys of motherhood with Lucerys.
Time skips galore to Laena’s death and funeral, where Aemond bonds with Vhagar. On the joy ride that is his first flight, he encounters Jace riding Vermax, but he doesn’t get to speak with him. He doesn’t mention the encounter to anyone, especially after Lucerys, Baela, and Rhaena confronted him about Vhagar and he loses his eye. When he’s better, he investigates Jace and Vermax, and they become close friends over a few weeks. Aemond is the one to teach Jacaerys High Valyrian, starting with basic dragon commands.
Alicent eventually finds out about Jacaerys and his parentage, she and Otto resolve to foster him in the Keep, to one day use to their advantage. They manage to manipulate a sickly Viserys into legitimizing Jacaerys as a Targaryen and Lord Strong of Harrenhal, all while keeping the news from reaching Rhaenyra on Dragonstone. This is around 126 AC.
(Current) Titles:
Prince Jacaerys Targaryen, Lord Strong of Harrenhal
Prince Lucerys Velaryon, Heir to Dragonstone
Prince Joffrey Velaryon, Heir to Driftmark
Lady Baela Targaryen
Lady Rhaena Targaryen
Lord Cregan Stark of Winterfell
According to the timeline I set, it should be about 128 AC when Jacaerys presents as an omega while he is living at and helping restore Harrenhal. Upon receiving a raven about his falling ill while presenting and 3 months passing since Jacaerys last was conscious, Aemond took residence at Harrenhal and vigilantly protected him. This is also the year that Arra Norrey canonically dies while giving birth to Rickon Stark.
Baela and Rhaena present in 128 AC as well.
Around 129-130 AC, Lucerys Velaryon presents as an omega, and Joffrey as an alpha. Viserys hosts a tourney in their honor, celebrating the presentation of his favored grandchildren (miffing Alicent as there was no such celebration held for her own children). Rhaenyra and Daemon convince Viserys to invite among the lords, Cregan Stark, after learning of his recent widowing in the hopes that they can secure an alliance with the North by betrothing Lucerys to Cregan.
The hosts traveling from the North are welcomed midway at a near-completely renovated Harrenhal by Jacaerys and Aemond. They spend a day resting, and those who do not wish to rest are invited to join a small hunting party with Jacaerys leading. Vermax is about as big as Syrax, having grown more free-range at Harrenhal than most dragons. Jacaerys bonds with many of the knights and lords in the hunting party, but gets along the most with Cregan.
Upon arriving at King’s Landing, the host of Harrenhal, including Aemond and Jacaerys, accompany that of the houses of the North. Jacaerys and Aemond are the last announced after Cregan Stark, having landed Vhagar and Vermax together on the beach, and this is the first time Rhaenyra hears of Jacaerys.
Jacaerys knows that Rhaenyra is his mother, and he holds resentment towards her. At some point during the festivities, he publicly or privately confronts Rhaenyra with the show!canon monologue:
“Did you think I would have dark hair? When you took Harwin Strong into your bed, did you think I might favor him, or did it not cross your mind?”
Rhaenyra attempts to calm him and show that she regrets her past decision heavily, but Jacaerys cannot forgive her for the years of anguish he went through without his true mother. Much of his resentment lies in that after abandoning him, she went on to have two more children just like him.
Meanwhile, Lucerys attempts to bond with Cregan, driven by Daemon and Rhaenyra’s suggestion for him to consider the Lord of Winterfell as a possible mate. He is constantly in the company of Baela, Rhaena, and Joffrey as they observe all the knights and lords. Daeron Targaryen is also present, and he is Lucerys’ rival for Cregan Stark’s attentions.
The relationship between Jacaerys and Lucerys is bitter. Lucerys sees Jacaerys as a threat to him in every facet of his life, and he cannot believe that Jacaerys may be his older brother who his mother abandoned. Jace being legitimized as the son of Rhaenyra and Harwin poses a threat to Lucerys and Joffrey, as it casts a heavier shadow onto the boys. And Rhaenyra refuses to publicly acknowledge Jacaerys as her own at the expense of Lucerys and Joffrey. As a result, he is antagonistic towards Jace, and his closest friends Baela, Rhaena, and Joffrey support him. He is also slightly scared of Jace because wherever he is, Aemond is sure to be close by.
Daeron and Jacaerys aren’t necessarily friends as Jace is with the rest of Daeron’s siblings, but they aren’t “enemies” like Luke and Jace. He manages to spy upon Cregan and Jace, and realizes that he and Lucerys have no chance at Cregan, so he backs off seriously considering him as a mate. He does continue to rile Lucerys up with taunts, because he finds it funny and cute, in an odd way.
The highlight of the tourney is the crowning of the Queen of Love and Beauty, which is an honor for the tourney champion to bestow to a lady or omega of their choosing. Despite being a lord, Cregan is known as one of the best swordsman of Westeros, therefore his participation is expected. It becomes rumored to all attending that either Prince Lucerys Velaryon or Prince Daeron Targaryen are expectant to be crowned by the lord, and their respective mothers Rhaenyra and Alicent may betroth their omega son to the lord as a result. It comes as a surprise to most of the royal family when Cregan crowns Prince Jacaerys instead (except for Aemond and Helaena because they are his closest friends, and Helaena could sort of tell with her dream-seer powers; Aegon bluntly states that it was obvious to anyone not lovesick for Stark).
Cregan officially courts Jacaerys, and they decide to marry/mate any or all of three ways: by the Old Gods, respecting Cregan’s heritage; the Faith of the Seven, respecting Jacaerys’ beliefs; and the Old Valyrian tradition, respecting Jacaerys’ heritage as a Targaryen.
Side note: An alternative and more dramatic take to this is Daemon and Rhaenyra successfully arranging with Viserys for Cregan to mate with Lucerys after the tourney, but frustrated and driven to his wits end, Cregan mates Jacaerys under the Weirwood tree the night before the last day of the tourney, during a feast/dance. Rhaenyra tries to resolve this by proposing Cregan follow Aegon I’s example and mate Lucerys for duty while keeping Jacaerys for love. The issue is that once an alpha takes his true omega, attempting to claim another tends to get rather bloody. Historically, most alphas or omegas tend to be torn apart by both the alpha and their true mate if they try. And also, Cregan did not want to have two or more mates. As he tells Rhaenyra “You would submit your son to an empty life. I would never love him as I love my Prince Jacaerys. I would never bed him, not even for duty. He would waste away in the cold of the North, constantly longing for a better life til his dying day.”
Tumblr media
A couple of tiny and side moments:
Jacaerys and Mysaria being mother and son, because she raised him for a bit before he was discovered by Alicent.
Jacaerys wears some extravagant and more…revealing outfits than in the show. May be influenced by being raised in a brothel house…also he is an omega so they do have a bit more freedom in dressing pretty. Jacaerys is a very beautiful omega, basically.
Tumblr media
Cregan and Jace have some training battles, because Jace is also a fighter and a Lord, so he must know how to fight. Cregan appreciates that Jacaerys is not a dainty and demure omega; he proves to have a raging fire that can conquer the coldest of winters in the North.
Jace and Daemon do not like each other. Daemon despises Jace’s very existence because his position threatens Rhaenyra’s claim as well as their little peace. And he gets in the way of everything. And the Strong host just loves messing with Daemon and humbling, as is show canon. Simon Strong is definitely with Jacaerys the entire time of the tourney.
Jace and Baela would’ve definitely been betrothed were they not sort of enemies on circumstance. However, my stance on incest is that I don’t support it, not even slightly. So I don’t see any potential for a threesome between Jace, Baela, and Cregan.
Sara Snow may be a part of Cregan’s party in tourney, if she’s not taking care of Rickon in the North. And if she is, Cregan asked her to craft the crown of flowers that he gives to Jace. It’s this crown of flowers that has all the omegas and ladies attending the tourney bumbling with excitement that they might be on the receiving end of it.
Corlys and Rhaenys become more upset at the evidence that Jacaerys, and by extension Lucerys and Joffrey, are not true Velaryons. Rhaenys always firmly believed Rhaenyra got rid of Jacaerys because he was not Laenor’s, so when it was officially announced, she was done. The only saving grace is that Baela and Rhaena are definitely Laena’s, and they may or may not be betrothed to Lucerys and Joffrey respectively…
Lucerys eventually accepts that his mother screwed them all over and sowed the seeds they reap. Moreover, he reconciles with Jacaerys and learns how to be a younger brother. Aemond still creeps him out by lurking in the shadows.
End Notes:
I am not TG, and I do cast a dark light on Rhaenyra and Lucerys especially with this narrative, but I needed some drama with it. Anyways, I’m glad I could blurb this out to stop thinking about it so much. Sorry I won’t be writing a full fic to anyone who would be interested in reading it.

Gonna start reviewing/recommending various danmei series as I read them since I’m delighted to have discovered the genre and I can’t get enough of it. Starting today with a criminally under appreciated series:
Remnants of Filth
Tumblr media
7 volumes in total, this book is a soul crushingly angst story about a heartbroken man who was betrayed and struggles to understand where everything went wrong. Mo Xi is an impecable main character with realistically complex feelings and actions. He’s easy to empathize with and seeing the inner thoughts of a character normally so stoic is fascinating, truly. Enough lighthearted fluff to keep the darkness at bay and a masterfully balanced blend of magic, mystery, and political make this an exceptional read. This skyrocketed to one of my top favorite novels practically overnight.
What I liked about it:
-adult protagonists!! Mo Xi is a 30 year old war general, so his perspective lends an interesting twist to the story, which is refreshing as a person who can’t seem to escape the teen fantasy protagonist.
-Incredible plot twists that are hinted enough not to be jarring but obscured enough to be exciting
-Mo Xi’s emotional growth throughout the plot is phenomenal
-Gu Meng domestication arc
-Deliciously angsty but with the soft happy ending that keeps it from tragedy
-12/10 explicit scenes. Some of the best I’ve read
-one of the better relationships-it’s lacking in the toxic elements that many series in this genre have and it’s nice to see
What I didn’t like about it:
-somewhat heavy on the ‘if only these bastards would just talk about it!’ for my tastes
-The resolution of Gu Meng and Murong Lian’s arc at the end of the novel. I like the character growth and development of Murong Lian but they way the author chose to handle the relationship between them just didn’t sit quite right with me
-some other side character arcs ended….super weirdly
-The continual call back to the non-existent relationship between Mo Xi and the princess. I see the plot purpose but I didn’t vibe with it
Who I think would like this book:
-Angst fans. If you like to see characters suffer then this series has your back.
-people who like lovers to enemies to lovers. This has everything you need
-Those who like memory loss plots and like scenes of characters taking care of each other
-Those who enjoy themes of futility and/or exploration of how class structure is damaging
Who I think wouldn’t like this book:
-Anyone who does not read mature content/minors beacause the explicit scenes are explicit
-anyone who does not interact with media that references abuse or slavery. These themes play large parts throughout the book. One of the major things is Gu Meng’s struggle to prove he’s more than just a slave. Avoid if this is triggering
-Those who don’t like excessive angst because while it does have a happy ending, you don’t see much of that softness before then.
-people who don’t like the ‘can’t escape until the characters fuck’ trope cause that is a thing that happens
-you prefer ‘everybody lives/nobody dies’ beacause characters do die and you will be sad about it
If the warnings don’t turn you away I highly recommend giving it a read!!! You will not be disappointed.
Stay tuned for my next review: Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation

भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था से जुड़ी वो बातें जो UPSC Prelims 2026 में जरूर आएंगी
Tumblr media
When it comes to cracking UPSC Prelims 2026, one of the most crucial subjects is Indian Economy. Not only is it scoring, but it also connects deeply with current affairs, making it a favorite area of focus for question setters. In this blog, we break down the must-know concepts, syllabus structure, current trends, and expert tips that every serious aspirant should follow.
This blog is crafted with insights from top UPSC mentors and experts from the Best IAS Academy in Delhi, Bajirao IAS Academy.
Why Indian Economy Is a Game-Changer for UPSC Prelims?
The Indian Economy is dynamic, vast, and directly linked to real-world governance. Questions in UPSC Prelims often test your:
Conceptual clarity
Awareness of recent economic developments
Knowledge of government schemes and economic reforms
“Economy is not about numbers; it’s about how policies touch people’s lives. UPSC loves that human angle.”
UPSC Prelims 2026: Indian Economy Syllabus Breakdown
UPSC doesn’t define a topic-wise economy syllabus for Prelims. However, based on previous years' papers and expert mapping, the key areas include:
Basic Concepts – GDP, GNP, Inflation, Deflation, Repo Rate, Fiscal Deficit, etc.
Banking & Monetary Policy – RBI, types of banks, NBFCs, CRR, SLR
Government Schemes – Especially related to poverty, employment, women, and agriculture
Budget and Economic Survey Highlights – Focus on key data, reforms, and initiatives
External Sector – Balance of Payments, exchange rate management, trade policy
Current Affairs – Global market trends, India’s trade performance, employment rate
Most Expected Topics for UPSC Prelims 2026
Based on trends from the last 10 years and expert predictions:
Impact of global oil prices on India
Digital economy and UPI
Unemployment rate trends and reports (like PLFS)
India's FDI inflows and Ease of Doing Business
Start-up India, Make in India, and Atmanirbhar Bharat
Role of RBI in economic stability
Recent budget allocations for health and education
Global slowdown and Indian economic resilience
Preparation Strategy: Learn Smart, Not Hard
Stick to NCERTs and Standard Books: Class 11 & 12 Economics, followed by books like Ramesh Singh or Sanjeev Verma.
Follow Current Affairs Religiously: Refer to newspapers like The Hindu or Indian Express, and PIB.
Practice MCQs Daily: Focus on economic data, reports, and scheme-based questions.
Weekly Revision: Economic concepts are interlinked. Regular revision helps retain them better.
“Integrate editorials with your static syllabus. That’s how toppers connect the dots.”
Indian Economy and Global Market Link
In recent years, UPSC has shown a growing interest in questions that connect Indian economy with international developments. For example:
How does the US Fed rate hike affect India’s inflation?
What is India’s role in BRICS bank or G20 finance?
These themes reflect how UPSC expects aspirants to think globally but answer locally.
Economic Data You Should Remember
Some data points are repeated in UPSC again and again:
Current GDP growth rate (as per Economic Survey)
Unemployment rate (PLFS)
Inflation trends (CPI & WPI)
Fiscal deficit target in Union Budget
These figures should be on your fingertips.
Quotes
“Economy questions are not random. They're indicators of what the government thinks is important.”
“Think like a policymaker when studying economy. That’s the secret to scoring.”
Economy + Strategy = Success
Mastering the Indian Economy for UPSC Prelims 2026 is not about mugging facts. It’s about:
Understanding the 'why' behind every policy
Knowing the implications of economic changes
Keeping yourself updated daily
Students from the Best IAS Academy in Delhi, especially Bajirao IAS Academy, are trained to combine smart reading, data retention, and current affairs analysis.
With the right guidance, study plan, and discipline – you can turn Indian Economy into your strongest scoring area.
