Lhusu Mines
Tumblr media
Located on the skycontinent of Dorstonis, the Lhusu Mines are crystal mines known for their extensive tunnel network, complete with rail tracks for transport. The tunnels descend all the way to the bottom of the continent, where a suspended bridge offers views of both the Sea of Naldoa below and the Sea of Clouds above.
Tumblr media
Among the many magicite mines scattered across Purvama, Lhusu is famed for producing exceptionally high-quality magicite. Mining operations began during the era of the Galtean Alliance and have brought tremendous wealth to Bhujerba ever since. Although rumors suggest the quality of the magicite has been declining in recent years, the miners themselves firmly deny these claims.

I've got this heavily supported headcanon that, of the main cast of Final Fantasy XII, only Balthier and Fran are even vaguely well traveled enough to register that people are even speaking in an accent different from theirs. They did regional accents in both the Japanese and the English versions (IDK about other dubs, these are the ones I've played) and they're very obvious. They're also very intentional.
Want evidence? I got evidence.
Tumblr media
In Bhujerba, Balthier pegs Larsa on sight. Why wouldn't he? Those clothes? That accent? His manners in relation to his age? That child is a Solidor. Not to mention the freaking necklace.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A literal child wearing the crest of house Solidor. Dead giveaway, even if you don't know what the crest is. This boy has the bearing of an Archadian Noble wearing clothing that no one in Highgarden could possibly afford. But he's polite, even when compared to the people of Highgarden, and especially Balthier.
Meanwhile Ashe is out here asking if a dude with a Posh As Fuck Thickass Archadian accent...
Tumblr media
... if he's from her goddamn region.
Madam.
With all due respect.
No.
He most definitely is not.
Anywho, Ashe has been living under a rock for years to stay alive, and before that I doubt she left her region much. Heck, she was engaged to someone basically living next door. Vaan and Penelo are kids raised between plagues and wars, both orphans, and definitely haven't traveled much. Basch arguably has seen at least two regions, and is half Archadian, but his dialect is a freakin' hodgepodge. It's so cool to listen to. Definitely hear that Archadian Education upbringing. His vocabulary is closer to Balthier's than Ashe's, but his consonants are rounder than his brother's.
This could imply that this is something that would have happened to Reddas' accent if his home was in Nabudis.
I digress.
Balthier and Fran have actively been all over the world.
Balthier and Fran are the only members of the main cast who can—or bother to—recognize accents.

Interpreting Vayne's Smile
Tumblr media
At the end of his speech in Rabanastre, Vayne smiles; a moment open to multiple interpretations. One perspective suggests that the smile reflects a sense of triumph; having delivered a speech filled with insincere words meant to manipulate the citizens, the smile may have been him gloating over his success and mocking those he has deceived.
However, it is also possible that Vayne, despite his role as an antagonist, genuinely wished for peace in Rabanastre. This more nuanced reading paints him not as a purely evil figure, but as a complex character with sincere motives. Ultimately, how one interprets Vayne's smile can influence how they perceive him—and, by extension, the story of Final Fantasy XII as a whole.
Larsa Was Attending the Consul Ceremony
Although not shown on screen, Larsa was present at Vayne’s appointment ceremony in Rabanastre. He traveled from the Imperial City to support his beloved brother during the formal event. However, just before their departure, the Senate warned Larsa of Vayne’s involvement in suspicious research and provided a prototype magicite as evidence. Determined to uncover the truth for himself, Larsa attended the ceremony, then departed for Bhujerba to investigate further.

Final Fantasy XII Cities and Settlements Okay, so I started screencapping FFXII... 2 years ago, yikes. I wanted to take screenshots of my favorite fashion and architecture from fantasy video games. I've been suffering from health issues and autistic burnout for a loong time, longer than 2 years lol. This has been weighing on me, so I decided to I will at least finish up the major cities, and Eruyt Village, and release them into the universe. I'm sorry it's incomplete. Someday, I hope to finish up all the architecture of this game. Some of the stuff I did earliest includes cutscene only areas! One day, if I do another playthrough, I will try to get screencaps of all the unique cutscene 'sets' as well. Enjoy for art references, worldbuilding ideas, etc. Happy New Year! Edit: Rabanastre has been split up and should be working now. Nalbina Rabanastre Rabanastre part 2 Rabanastre part 3 Bhujerba Archades Balfonheim Eruyt Village

[fic] A Glittering Jewel
Title: A Glittering Jewel Fandom: Final Fantasy XII Ship: Halim Ondore IV/Reddas Tags: General Audiences, Kisses, FFXII Week, Quadruple Drabble Summary: The city below; the Marquis besides. a/n: Written for FFXII Week - Anniversary Edition, for the prompt "skycity".
"The city is beautiful, this night." Reddas stood with both hands clasped in the small of his back, side by side with Halim, the skycity of Bhujerba spread out beneath them like a glittering jewel frosted with foliage.
They stood close enough that Reddas could feel Halim's warmth against the exposed skin of his upper arm, and he bumped against the man companionably, gently enough not to stir him from his stance.
"The city is beautiful every night," Halim replied in his rich, lilting accent. Reddas had found, over the years of this dalliance of theirs, that he could listen to him speak for as long as he was wont, and still he would not grow tired of listening to the melodious sound of his voice.
"Aye, you speak truth." He slipped an arm around Halim's waist, safe in the knowledge that they were alone in his estates and that all the staff had been given the night off. "Though I would long for the sound of the sea, were I to live here. It may not have been my natural home, but Balfonheim has welcomed me as one of its own."
Halim laughed softly, leaning the willow-light weight of him into Reddas. Never did he feel his bulk than when they were in proximity such as this. "Bhujerba would welcome you as one of her own, were you to stay."
He raised his hand before Reddas could respond, one finger outstretched. "I know, it is not in your heart. Do not think me ungrateful for this time you spend, Foris. I know the demands upon you as well as you know those upon me."
Reddas bit the tip of his tongue. Would he ever become immune to his name on those lips? Unlikely.
"I think of you every time I fly," he replied, emotions mastered, Judgelike. "My hands guide the rudder on your pleasure."
"Oh? You flatter." Halim turned to Reddas, head inclined down towards him.
"Nay, I speak but the truth." Reddas looked up and smiled, slow and warm. He pulled Halim in closer and took his mouth in a kiss. "Shall I demonstrate, perchance?"
"Here, in full view of my city?" Halim chuckled against Reddas' lips, but did not deny.
"They need but look to the sky and her grandeur overcomes all other sights. I think we will not be noticed."
"Then how can I deny you?"

Talk about Nabyrie Ondore~
What are her significant story beats? Any skills that set her apart?
(I recently inundated my last braincell into Ivalician Hell once again so seeing anyone have FFXII ocs is neat)
HIIII!!
omg, I honestly didn't expect an ask about Nabyrie!!! 😭😭😭 She is such an old OC of mine!
I created her when FFXII first came out, back in 2007, but she is still so precious to me <3
So, regarding her story!
Always keeping in consideration that I wrote it when I was just a teen (and in Italian as well), my "Tales of Two Empires" revolves mostly around Nabyrie's story, and it's divided in two parts: "Book 1: For Whom The Nightingale Sings" which revolves mostly around Nabyrie's own romantic relationship with Vossler; how Nabyrie herself would navigate the whole whole political situation in Ivalice between Rozarria and Archadia, trying to ensure Bhujerba's neutrality while also lending her personal support to the remaining Knights of Dalmasca (hence her supporting Vossler's and Ashe's cause).
So we can say that the first part of Nabyrie's story follows the events of the game, while narrating them from Nabyrie's side - so basically Bhujerba and the Knights of Dalmasca's resistance.
The moment my story diverges is around Vossler's death on the Leviathan, and that's when Nabyrie's retreat to Bhujerba and Book 1 ends.
"Book 2: The Blue Yonder" starts AFTER the events of FFXII and it mostly narrates about how Nabyrie has agreed to a marriage of convenience with Larsa, how she has become Empress of the Archadian Empire and how, after Vossler's death, she fell more and more and more into a dark spiral, with that darkness channeled into preparing to fight once again against Rozarria and defending the Empire, while also trying to carry on a personal revenge caused by that pain that was consuming all her soul (yes, my darling OC Aranea owes A LOT to Nabyrie in terms of inspiration).
This is a very VERY general summary of the story.
Her most significant Story beats are connected to Vossler's death, her relationship with Balthier during her years in the Empire, her personal vendetta against her own cousin Ashe (whom she considers responsible for Vossler's death), her ascension as Empress of Arcadia and as Warlord for the Empire, her funneling the Mist's own power into her own body as a way to gain absolute power over some of the Espers (to the cost of some of her own sanity) and eventually her redemption in the end.
As for Nabyrie herself, she is the first daughter of Halim Ondore IV and Zahira Alya Margrace, Su Alteza Real La Infanta Princesa de Sangre of House Margrace of Rozarria, and the designated successor to Halim's role as Steward of Bhujerba.
She is fiercely loyal to her city, fiercely indipendent, and especially in the first part of her story, a tomboy with one heck of a temper and fierce disposition that could be considered complementary to Vossler's own temper.
Feel free to read a tiny snippet of my story here, if you will. It was one of the few parts that I have translated in English, but do keep in mind that I wrote it when I was really young!😅🙏
Thank you so much for your question, I so rarely have the chance to speak about Nabyrie, but when I happens, it's always a joy for me, because she is one of my most favourite brainchildren <3
so truly thank you for giving me this opportunity! :)

Alsga pleaded with Takrin to allow Theodric to take their child away and told him they would never have to think about this again, he reluctantly agreed. He was still furious his wife's firstborn was of Rozarrian blood, but his infatuation with her won over his anger. And when her daughter was born, Theodric took her away, and the two disappeared from Archadia. He fled to Nabradia, to Dalmasca, and finally returned to Rozarria, where his family was less than pleased to see him with a daughter of Archaidan blood.
Olean grew beneath her father's watchful eye and loving care, but she couldn't escape her blood. Her frustration turned to anger and fueled her ambition, and she joined Rozarria's army as soon as she was old enough. She clawed through the ranks, working as both soldier and spy, and proved her loyalty to her Empire time and time again with a silver tongue and bloodied fangs. Their scorn turned to praise, and as much as Theodric begged her to not lose herself, Olean refused to listen. She was accepted in the military as she climbed higher. She was respected. She was eager to push back against Archadia and destroy the cruel Empire, and when word spread of infiltration, she was quick to volunteer.
There was... pushback, at first. Some worried she might start feeling sympathetic toward the Archadians due to her shared blood, and that she might get distracted trying to learn more about that part of her. She insisted she wouldn't, that her loyalties strictly lied with Rozarria - with the Empire that saved and raised her. She was permitted to join the mission, but Olean knew it was a test.
And it was a test she was determined not to fail.
In the chaos of Nabradia's fall and Archadia's annexing of Dalmasca, Olean and a few others were sent across Rozarria's borders and into Archadia's expanded territory. There, they would split into different regions to gather as much intel as they could - to find anything and everything that even had the slightest chance of helping Rozarria. To Bhujerba, to Rabanastre, to Nalbina - anywhere they could be without getting Archadia's attention. Anywhere the Resistance could be found. The war was not over just yet, and it was only a matter of time before it boiled over again.

The Skycity of Bhujerba
Tumblr media
Bhujerba is an autonomous city located on the floating continent of Dorstonis and serves as the capital of Purvama. Famous for its magicite mines and tourism, it also thrives in airship manufacturing—many machinist moogles live and work here.
Tumblr media
Due to Dorstonis’s elevated terrain, Bhujerba’s streets are mostly sloped, with high walls built to shield pedestrians from strong high-altitude winds. The iconic sky terraces that extend out over the clouds are a well-known landmark and a popular spot for visitors.

Tabaxis*
(*please note, while based on the dnd race, this deviates away from dnd!)
Tabaxis are closely related to the Rev, although they're not quite the same. Although humanoid, much like the Rev, Tabaxis are considered more feline-like than their Rev counterpart - having noses, muzzles, eyes, and teeth like felines, as well as (most) having longer tails and retractable claws. Their hands are also padded at the fingertips and palms, much like a cat's paw, although their fingers are human-like, and their feet are closer to that of paws, which are also padded. Fur patterns vary from Tabaxi to Tabaxi, although they're usually stripped or spotted in some way, with few being a solid color. Also, despite being humanoid, it's normal for Tabaxis to have twins or triplets. Most families have two to four kits (children), and although having a single kit is uncommon, it's not unheard of.
They're an uncommon race and can primarily be found living in Halivaara, although they can be found in various other locations throughout Ivalice, such as Balfonheim, Mt Bur-Omisace, Bhujerba, and Rozarria. They can be found in Nabradia and Dalmasca, though in smaller numbers, and even fewer can be found throughout Archadia - primarily there because they have been unable to leave the Empire. Most Tabaxis used to live in Orkala and some in Landis, but both kingdoms have since been wiped from the Ivalician map because of Archadia's bloody expansion.
The spoken history of the Tabaxis is that Halivaara had been their place of origin. While their religion is similar to the one found across Ivalice, Kybris is the god they primarily worship, rather than the Great Father. They say that Kybris dug into Halivaara twice, and that Halivaara bears the healed scars to prove it. The first time she dug, she dug to find mud and clay to create the Tabaxi, and left behind the Starfall Basin - a large body of water found in the mountains of Halivaara that, at night, mirror the stars perfectly, as if they had fallen into the water. The second time Kybris dug, she dug into the side of the mountain itself to create shelter for the Tabaxi, which allowed them to build a village safe from the elements. That village still stands today as Juna Outpost*, though the original name had been lost to time. *(Juna Outpost takes inspiration from the Mesa Verde cliff dwellings!)
Their history also states that Kybris had shown them the way to Orkala, which is why most had left Halivaara and why Orkala became their kingdom for generations, because she wanted them to protect the magistonite mines. In turn for their guardianship, she taught them how to find magistonite and how to handle it with ease, and that is the reason why the Tabaxis keep magistonite a closely guarded secret, even with the resource lost. They rarely sold anything made of magistonite, let alone raw magistonite, and it was the reason why they refused to grant Archadia access to the magistonite mines. It was also the reason why Reyhana and a handful of other Tabaxis decided to collapse the mines during the Siege of Larnwick.
Tabaxis tend to keep to themselves, although they don't isolate themselves like the Viera, and are more peaceful in nature, though most found in Halivaara are cautious, if not hostile, of Humes because of Archadia. Those living outside Halivaara, however, are more open to interacting with Humes. And before the Siege of Larnwick, those who lived in Orkala had also been more open to interacting with Humes, with some even traveling to Landis to trade and sell various goods. They often brought with them various other resources found within the mines, herbs found throughout Orkala, various weapons, and handcrafted jewelry and leather goods.
Aside from Common, Tabaxi primarily speak Kaalabi - an evolution of their original language, Payrit, which is now considered to be dead. Kaalabi is both a verbal and written language, while Payrit had been strictly verbal, and is even spoken by those who did not come from Orkala. It's unknown why or when Payrit was replaced by Kaalabi and where Kaalabi originated from, though some Tabaxis say that they're separate languages altogether. They also communicate through vocalizations like hissing, growling, and purring; sign language; and eye contact, such as showing trust through long, slow blinks, and distrust through unwavering stares. They can also reveal their emotions through their ears, such as pinning them back when upset or perking them when interested, and their tails can fluff up when frightened or angry. Kits have been known to actually hold onto their tails for comfort, or onto the tails of their friends or family to stay close.
Tabaxis will bump their heads together as a sign of comfort, affection, and trust, and there have been times when a Tabaxi will do that to someone of another race without thinking about it. It's considered polite and respectful to dip their heads at each other, especially to those in authority or when meeting someone new. Young kits tend to have fun with it by seeing who can be "the most respectful", and it's not uncommon for them to end up literally butting heads in the process.
They're primarily carnivorous, although they have a broad diet like that of other races, which allows them to digest fruits, vegetables, grains, and other non-meat foodstuffs. They can eat more raw meat than most other races outside of certain fish and shellfish, but they primarily tend to cook their meats - it's just normally more on the rare side than anything else. Their food tends to be savory with certain spicy dishes, and they're primarily known for their stews and soups made from whatever they have available. They're also known for their game jerky, usually made of venison or rabbit, and it was something they would occasionally sell in Landis from time to time.
Tabaxis age similarly to Humes, and have a lifespan of around 100 years, with the oldest known Tabaxi having lived until they were 127 years old. They usually follow the laws of whatever kingdom or Empire they live in regarding age, but in Orkala and Halivaara, they have their own laws and social customs surrounding it. At 16 they're able to work certain jobs (usually helping their family if their family owns a business, but work is usually considered "low-risk"); at 18 they're able to drink, join the militia, and have more career options; and at 20 they're considered adults, which allows them to have their own home or business, get married, and have kits. Tabaxis are also able to leave Orkala or Halivaara when they turn 20 if they desire, but that is purely a social norm - it hasn't stopped Tabaxis from leaving sooner, and that norm was shaken up after the Siege of Larnwick.

ghis has sought her out with some semblance of a plan. not one concocted by his own imagination, of course, but sewn together by his desire and drace's own prowess in this field of knowledge. really without her aid he would be about as useful as a fish on land, flopping around in desperation. but all is well, at the moment, where the magistrate has invited her into his less than humble abode for a quiet night of conversation. rare are the moments as of late where he is able to call the capitol city, home. the magister's days are fairly limited to the skies he patrols well beyond archades' borders. in these moments though, where ghis can simply be, he does readily choose to spend them with her.
'you are stunning,' he compliments immediately, the man starstruck for a moment. this happens often, around melissa.
unscripted asks . always accepting
The inner rooms of the home belonging to one of the judge magisters of Archadia was a precious location for intel. One could find out much about their living conditions, food preferences and even details about a schedule that would be undisclosed otherwise. It was easier to get a trained officer to be unguarded at their own residences and to justify the casual investigation of the place under the excuses of being lost within such imponent surroundings.
The Marquis would have been overjoyed if he knew of such invitations and plans from judge Ghis - but these were never properly communicated back to the Sky City. By the time Melissa was invited to such occasions, the dancer lacked the old enthusiasm to see the man dead or held accountable by the crimes perpetrated by the empire he served. In the most unexpected twists of the fate, the Gods had seen fit to have an undercover agent turning sincere in her pretend act.
The smile when returning the invitation by writing to Ghis' aide, the careful planning into her appearance for the evening (with the right amount of jewelry, perfume and colorful fabric enveloping her body) and even the way her hand pressed into the magistrate's open compliment - none of them were rehearsed or performed with a hidden agenda in mind. At some point, surely, the leader of Bhujerba would send another missive with ciphered wording inquiring about Melissa's advances and success with the judge that had warranted a prolonged stay in imperial lands - but it was not a concern for that evening.
Perhaps, for once, Melissa shared the same lack of regard of her host for the future day - the man had stepped out of his trademark armor and opened his home (and possibly his heart) to the Bhujerban in a fashion that had no connection to his duties as a man of the law. There was no planning for the next morning, just the eagerness to profit from the rare occasion of the two of them being free and in the same city.
Once Melissa was taken further inside, the attentive servant who had been in charge of closing the doors disappeared. The first drawing room to where the dancer was steered to was very much Archadian - overflowing with the opulence and material comforts expected of someone of his station and family background. And yet, Ghis had eyes only for her, uncaring for the appearances presented. His home was often empty and impersonal - Melissa was being granted an unique chance not only to see it, but to find its owner there too, dressed as a man rather than a tool of the Empire.
"It pleases me to hear that, Jarvis," the Bhujerban mentioned in a low, intimate tone once she was lead to a comfortable couch. It lacked the exuberant covers of these at her home, but it offered more than enough room for Ghis to take a seat close to her, perhaps closer than the proper etiquette would mandate. Right hand raising to touch his face tenderly, Melissa allowed herself the boldness of those born closer to the stars in the floating island, smiling at the man before inching closer for a kiss that was as sweet as it was scandalous if the servants returned to that room.
"I dressed for your gaze alone, after all," the dancer murmured upon parting from that brief caress over the judge's lips, however lingering within his personal space, "And while I would be delighted to hear about your travels and everything that is novel about our vast world, I would also be more than happy to let you take my outfit apart. I have cleared my morning schedule following your invitation - I hope you have no intentions of seeing me leave until well after sunrise."

Sunbeams tickled my nose. Awakened my spirit. I felt comfortable and secure, therefore I continued to keep my eyes closed. It took some time before I recalled what had happened before sleep. Like an intuition, I finally remembered the events of the previous night. A smile crept across my lips.
In response, the warm body next to me moved. I felt soft lips, which were bedded on my forehead, before the blanket was pulled tighter over my shoulders and fixed with one arm.
Silence reigned for a long while. Then I heard the rustling of paper. Pages of a book were opened, and I heard the man at my side breathing deeply before continuing with the reading.
"I wanted to see you again, touch you, know who you were, see if I would find you identical with the ideal image of you which had remained with me and perhaps shatter my dream with the aid of reality.”
His pronunciation was smooth and picturesque. That's what distinguished the two of us. I came from the streets of Rabanastre. While he...
Slowly I opened my eyes. Peaking up at him, his radiance flew towards me. I still could not grasp that I was now in Bhujerba. Seeing the nervousness on my face, and after an affectionately wished good morning, he asked the concerned question whose tone of voice made me melt in his arms.
"Please, tell me what is going on in that clever head of yours?"
"In front of me I have the Marquis of Bhujerba," I stammered out breathlessly. As if I didn't know it before. "And I don't understand that."
Halim laughed. It made me lose my heart to him.
