#iKONTV_EP7 realization: #iKON members are so well-mannered because they literally keep each other in line. Examples: 1. when Hanbin shouted too loudly, Bobby reprimanded him right away and Hanbin mellowed down his voice in an instant.

2. When Chanwoo started pointing at Dong amidst the argument, yoyo stopped him because it is disrespectful. 3. When Chanwoo tried to talk after the escalated scene of Dongie screaming, Bobby as a hung told him to stop talking and let the hyungs do the talking.

Many people say that there is no hierarchy in iKON but in my opinion, their reflection of hierarchy isn’t reflected in traditional ways like dongsaengs cleaning for the hyungs and the like. They manifest this hierarchy in terms of respect towards their individual members.

More than traditional ways, they are very democratic. But at the same time, the maknae line will always have respect towards the hyung line. If reprimanded, they follow accordingly. At the same time, the hyung line never dismisses the opinion of their maknae.

They’re so influential to each other that there is no ounce of doubt in each member that all they want for each other is the best of things.

Hanbin’s lyricisms

Once you appreciate Hanbin’s lyricisms, it’s so hard not to compare and look for the same substance he instills in his words. Other than GD and Tablo, Hanbin is the only other artist whose words struck a cord in me.

Why? There are lyricists whose words become extensions of their being and there are those who write lyrics just for the sake of it. Hanbin, Tablo and GD pulls words from their life experiences and people they interact with.

They don't have to flex on their abilities to finesse through a verse with word play or unnecessary intricacies of underlying meanings all the time. The context of their lyrics is always placed at the forefront without distractions from superfluous words.

"I love you to death but at the end, I didn't die." - HANBIN The words from this line is so simple. But the gravity of the meaning hits you a tenfold. Hanbin has the ability to give words to feelings we can't comprehend. His lyrics is also his narrative.

Even their most hyped up songs have well-thought out substantial lyrics. Hanbin & Bobby both deviate away from trashy and disrespectful lyrics even if the lyrics portray self-hype. Take B-DAY and BLING BLING for example. It's so self-centred but it doesn't make you cringe at all.

At this point, I think GD's and Tablo's works are very self-explanatory. Their discography speaks true to their craft. HYUKOH is also someone to look out for. Check out their songs.

Just For You Song Analysis

'For You' has the most beautiful instrumentals in their discography. There's a perfect balance b/w organic instruments & synths. The synths are placed so subtly, it feels organic. The instrumental can stand on its own. It's that beautiful.

~ There's a lot of instruments used in this song but it doesn't make you feel overwhelmed. You'll never think that the bgm is 'too much' for the song. #HANBIN always had a way of making fluidity in music seem so natural. He knows when to pull back and when to give. ~ I'm in love with the guitar in this song. It's an influential presence that makes you feel at ease. In contrast, the beats at the beginning entices you to listen. It strikes curiosity. But when the guitar comes in along with #JUNHOE's voice, it hits you emotionally. ~ The line allocation is spot on. The lyrical context matches the vocal tones of the singers in each line. #BOBBY's vocal tone have always had a feel of desperation & regret. His raspy voice was utilized to convey the feeling of wanting to do better for someone but not having the capability to do so. #BOBBY's voice in this song almost reminds me of vocal breaks when you try to talk after you cry too much. But the way he sang his last line, the melody fills you with hope. ~ When #JUNHOE enters, the bgm was stripped back to nothing but the guitar at the forefront. With his soft full vocal, he fills your ears with promises. And you believe it because his adamant sincerity comes from nothing but his voice alone. No distractions. ~ When #DONGHYUK enters with his falsetto, I thank all that is holy that he now embraces his voice. Donghyuk's voice is like a hug. When he sustains a note, it's so pitch perfect that at some point in his part, his voice could pass as the strings in the bgm. 😭😭😭

~ When #JINHWAN enters, the beats at the beginning of the song were used again. Which is effective because it brings you back to the vibe initially proposed in the song; the feelings of regret for promises not kept can be felt in Jinani's intonation and enunciation.  However, the uncertainty portrayed in the lyrics was filled with optimism with the way #JINHWAN sang his lines. But the self-doubt that come along with promises, was not erased yet.

I love #HANBIN's vocals. I love that he didn't rap. I'm so tired of emotional songs in kpop where they add raps that doesn't fit in the song at all. Adding an unneeded ingredient can break the recipe. Hanbin chose to stay true to the song and sang. And he did it good.

~

The way #HANBIN sang isn't pretentious. It's almost as if he's talking. But the way he hits high notes is almost like a caress that gently fades out. His voice has a certain fondness in it. If #June sang this part with stubborn promises, Hanbin sang his w/ dedicated perseverance.

~

At #YUNHYEONG's part, the vibe becomes more positive. His voice perfectly reflects the line 'you're my light in this never-ending darkness.' This is because his clear vocal tone was sustained the entire time. It isn't airy or raspy. It's literally like a light that floats around.

~

#CHANWOO's part is an intake of breath in this song. His vocals are placed at the break down because his cool tone is perfect for slow and low melodic progression. It is a perfect breathing and emotional break before the climax/ending.

~

But at the same time, you just want to keep hearing it. #CHANWOO's tone is similar to a breeze. Once you stop hearing his voice, you long for it. Much like his line, '...long for that carefree day.'

~

When #JINHWAN ends the song, though the lyrics are similar, it provides a different feel. In contrast to the uncertain promises at the beginning of the song, this time around, the lyrics were portrayed with determination. It almost feel like that the singer himself now believes the words he is singing. It is no longer a casual promise. It now becomes a commitment. That emotional development within the song was supported by an equally moving bgm. It's so beautiful, it gave me the chills. #FORYOU is my fave fansong to date.

The musical background, imo, is a masterpiece on its own. But the vocals itself wasn't overshadowed. In fact, the vocals effectively bring all the essential emotional input that makes this song a fansong.

I don't think people realizes how big of a deal it is for an artist to release a song that is free. Remember that #iKON use music to earn a living. When they released this song for free, it isn't monetized. They get nothing from this.

And yet here we are, #iKONICS, enjoying a well made masterpiece without a hit to our wallets. The question that only remains after all these is that, how is it possible to have an ounce of hate towards this boys? HOW? TELL ME. #iKON is just a bunch of mischievous angels.

#iKONTV_EP11 realization: 1."You did well." #iKON is so supportive of each other. Notice how in all the episodes, although the members do not fully agree with the main pd's concept, they do everything gladly. And at the end of each ep, they acknowledge the pd's hard work.

When #yoyo learned that #Donghyuk gave up on the water sport, he didn't get mad about him sleeping in the tent because of it. He praised his effort.

#Chanwoo couldn't jump right away and apologized because he was scared. When #Hanbin heard this through his earphones he shouted for Chanwoo to take his time. Each of these boys just want each other to be safe and to do well.

2. No #iKON left behind. This team held on to each other with a stone fist. During their tough times after WIN, Hanbin would repeatedly say that he'll bring all of them together to debut. Triple Kims would always reassure the other three that they will all debut together as OT6.

Jinhwan: “One of you is missing.”

Jinhwan:”No iKON left behind. Let’s go save him.”

When #Chanwoo came into the picture, everyone knew that he had a lot to catch up to. Many are frustrated that Chanwoo doesn't have a lot of lines in iKON's music. But honestly, if you've been a long time #iKON fan, you would know that donghyuk & yoyo went through the same thing.

~

It was only until #donghyuk and #yoyo became more vocally stable that #Hanbin started to have confidence in giving them more lines. #Chanwoo will reach that point too. And it's not like iKON doesn't care about him at all. He's the maknae on top for a reason.

~

I commend B.I. because he always allots time to train Chanwoo personally. He would message Chanwoo detailed notes & would take it up with him during their 1on1 practices. These practices happen often that Chanwoo expected it to be a daily thing & was disappointed when cancelled.

What I appreciate about these two is that #Chanwoo knew he was lacking. It must hurt his pride to admit that he's not good enough but this boy didn't stop. Instead, he was thankful to #BI who gives him time despite BI's busy schedule as iKON's producer.

~

#Hanbin never tires from teaching any of the members. He didn't have to write detailed notes or give #Chanwoo 1-on-1 sessions. Yet, he still did. He may be #tigerbin that is feared but #iKON is what it is today bec of his perfectionism & each of the member's hard work.

~

3. #CHANWOO is a part of #iKON. No one can take Chanwoo away from iKON. I hate people who count lines per member. Line allocation will never equate to song quality. Hanbin giving lines not suited to Chanwoo's skills will only be detrimental to him.

Chanwoo knows this. iKON knows this. This is why Chanwoo never begged BI for lines - watch weekly idol. He wants to work hard for it and Hanbin let's him because that's the only way Chanwoo can improve. Chanwoo is determined to stay in iKON.

Whenever I remember his letter during one of their concerts, it breaks my heart bec he's too aware of everything. He's aware that people think he's not good enough and that he doesn't put anything on the plate. But you know what, Chanwoo is still here and continues to prosper.

~

4. #iKON has strong moral foundations. Just the fact that they consciously want to keep their manners and ethics around people is enough to show that these boys are good natured.

They don't think highly of themselves. Even after they started earning money, I never saw a change in their personality. Money can change a lot of people and they are aware of that. But they don't put unneeded importance to things like money and awards.

In my years of following #iKON, they never argued about trivial things like money or blamed each other for things that don't go well. Instead, they comfort each other and plan on how to make something work out.

~

There is a reason why most people who had interacted with #iKON are always surprised at how nice & hardworking they are. They don't make a show of being good or that they're having a hard time. They keep it among themselves & let what they put out to the world speak for itself.

~

5. #iKON only has #iKONICS. iKONICS only has iKON. The reason why we're so  emotionally attached to the boys is bec they never put up a barrier between them as idols and us as fans. iKON have always been genuinely thankful for our existence.

Think of an idol group with the same amount of fan songs as we do. Can you name one? Imo, their passion is what drives them to continue music but it's their SINCERITY that makes people want to stay and support them. #iKON

#iKONTV may end here and I may be sad about it. But it is everything I want to be and more. I am satisfied with what they had given us. The series stayed true to what iKON is and showed who each member is. However, I'm still hoping for a season 2. #iKONTV_ToBeKONtinued

I first met #iKON when I was in 12th grade. I'm already on my journey to get my second diploma after undergrad. Still, here I am supporting the boys after all these years. I grew up with them. Shared their pain and their successes. Thank you for the wonderful years, #iKON.

#iKONTV_EP10 realization: 1. #BOBDONG are brothers. Unlike double b that leans more towards bromance and mutual respect, BOBDONG gives out a strong feel of sibling-like relationship. #Donghyukie who idolizes his hyung while #Bobby is the hyung who adores his dongsaeng.

#Donghyuk have always seen his hyung line as father figures in a sense wherein his standard of being a man is based on the characteristics he respects in each of his hyungs. At least that's what I've noticed through WIN and M&M. Remember that Donghyuk's family has mostly consisted of females with his father passing away at such a young age. The hyung line, imo, is his biggest influence in his younger years to now. iKON members only had each other for so long. It is no wonder that they're overprotective of each other.

2. #iKON have yet to unleash their full ability. #June and #Jinhwan singing made me realized that Hanbin have yet to reveal the immense talent of the vocal line to the public. I've always been at awe with the amount of improvement iKON went through from WIN to now.

It shouldn't be a surprise that their rate of development ALWAYS exceeds expectations when the team itself always remain unsatisfied with anything they've done. With #Hanbin as their leader and #Jinani + #Bobby at its core, iKON will only continue to improve.

~

Their live perfs are always A+ but think about this. None of iKON's title track exhibited their vocal capacity to the fullest and yet, here they are breaking records after records. Imagine all the what ifs...

~

Like #Hanbin, I'm also waiting for the time when he can release anything he wants once he and #iKON have received the gp's acknowledgement. By that time, #YG's negligence will not only be questioned but shamed by the public too. It's only a matter of time.

~

3. Wherever they go, the members are always with them. No matter when and where. That level of attachment is real. My clingy babies can't stand being without each other.

4. One of the many things I admire in #iKON is that none of the members think they're better than the other. Each member is each other's hype man. They encourage each other to do better, to try new things, and to not fear taking risks.

This is the main reason why each member feels less insecure whenever they're together. Within this team, there is no judgement. Instead, they support each other's craziness.

I want to commend #CHANWOO for doing so well despite being the last member to join. I think people tend to forget that Chanwoo only trained for less than 2 years before they debuted & had to catch up YEARS of training the other members had. YOU'VE DONE WELL, #CHANUWU

~

5. iKON ARE VARIETY GOLD. Hanbin and June are gold in variety. They're both quick-witted, fast thinkers and comical. They have good reactions and easily adapt to the flow of conversation. Chanwoo is a one-hit kinda guy. He doesn't talk much but once he does, it's a sure hit!

This is why I'm so frustrated with their lack of variety guestings. These boys are naturally funny together. They don't sugarcoat things. They're aggressive with their punchlines but they sprinkle just the right amount of savageness.

~

#iKONTV is gold. I say this every week, but iKON is CREATIVE and INNOVATIVE. iKONTV DESERVES SEASON 2. The quality, production, and concept is so high standard. It's so well-produced that, imo, they're holding the standard for idol shows. They're the idol TV to beat.

~

WATCH #iKONTV EVERY #SATURDAY! Don't miss the final episode next week! The end is coming and I'm sure they'll try to make us cry next week. lol

#iKONTV_EP8 realization: One of the reasons why the maknae line can be so open to the hyung line is because they are always given a leeway in situations they falter. Hanbin had been strict to the members regarding the budget but when it comes to food, he was never selfish.

The members have always found a way to scam Hanbin with eating food using the budget. Hanbin may be disappointed at some point, but they all move on. They truly live up to his motto: "we all work hard to eat well."

I also love how the maknae line takes advantage of this leeway but they know their limits. All the members try to scam each other but at the end of the day, they can't help but expose themselves.

Whenever it comes to food, #iKON will never be selfish about it. Through the different eps and dvds, using food as a punishment for iKON never truly worked because they always end up feeding each other anyway

I remember when #Bobby received pocket money and he refused to go out to eat with just #Donghyuk with him because he wanted to bring all the other members with them. What one eats, should be eaten by the rest.

#iKONTV_EP1 realization: 1. I'm so proud of #BOBBY This scene is so endearing. I've watched Bobby ever since he had nothing. I knew him as a young boy separated from his parents to pursue a better life. I've watched this boy cry and long for his family.

The amount of shoes does not only signify monetary success. Those shoes signify all the hard work, perseverance, and struggles he had to go through alone. Those shoes signify that his parents are back in Korea, he is Bobby the SMTM IDOL champion, and he is #Bobby of #iKON

2. #iKON is probably the most patient group I've ever known. These boys understand that they're all different. They all learn things differently. They move at different speeds. They think in different ways. But that's okay because they understand those differences & it's enough.

3. "What awards did we win?" When I first watched this scene, I was a bit confused. How the hell do they not know? Grand slam rookie awards. Triple Triple Crowns. Daesang (My Type). Do they really not care?

~

Whenever I watch #iKON on #iKONTV, I feel ashamed that I sometimes measure their success through charts & awards bec these boys couldn't care less for awards. They enjoy what they do and to them, that is enough. When did the kpop stan twitter become so obsessed with the charts?

~

I'm including these because we all need a comedic break I, too, had a mental breakdown in this episode along with iKON lmao

4. #iKON members easily learn how to appreciate things through small experiences. This scene tugged at my heart because these boys went through hell and back to debut. They, too, had their own struggles and trials.

They may not have to go through job application processes but they went through TWO survival shows to keep their team intact, to debut, and to be where they are right now. However, they never dismiss the struggles of those around them.

Instead, they empathized and respect those people who go through things they never had to do. They made me realize that, though my struggle is my own, it doesn't give me the right to negate the struggles of others. They showed me all that in a span of 20 seconds.

5. Each member have different minds that run on the same path. The reason why #iKON is so hard to emulate or copy is because with each project they do, they put a bit of themselves in it. Their dance practices are very synchronized but each of them dances in their own style.

Watch their dance practices and those who cover it. Not one cover has done justice to any of their dances/music. Music is a very personal thing while trends come and go. Trends is just the general tendency for the majority to move in a certain direction.

~

However, we all can listen to one song at the same time but still interpret it differently. So yes, #Bobby, I agree with you. After all, each one of us is unique on our own.

The best way to appreciate #iKON rappers

Do you know the best way to appreciate #iKON rappers? Listen to their songs while following the romanized lyrics. Listen how their intonation and their diction vary per verse. Listen to the ways each syllable is emphasized differently to bring different feelings.

Listen to the dynamics in flow i.e how they play on speed of their rhythms & their rhymes. Listen to how these rhymes are emphasized with strategic usage of pauses & silence. Listen how they all do these things so effortlessly without sacrificing emotions. LISTEN.

This is what I do to analyze vocals and raps. For instrumentals, I replay the song as many times as I want on spotify without any distractions. Sometimes you have to be alone with the music to fully appreciate its intended message.

Question (@/dotdaeindaeyo): Do you rate how the lyrics were made too?

OMG YES. It's deal breaker for me tbh. Anyone can compose the most creative instrumentals but the lyrics has to identify with that. If it doesn't, I don't even finish the song lol

Personally, I think that lyrics are the bridges of the song. It's the line that connects the mind of the composer/lyricists to the listener. If that line is broken, then what's the point, right? Some may ask, what about KPOP it isn't sung in English?

For KPOP songs, I listen to the music first. If I like it enough, I search for the English translations. This part, to me, is crucial because there are so many songs out there that are quite good but the lyrical context is just subpar. And so it leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

I need Hanbin to be a mentor

I need Hanbin to join a show and be a mentor for potential talents. Not because I want him to showcase how great he is but because I want people to know what it took for iKON to come this far. I want people to see how respectable Hanbin is as a leader.

iKON didn't come this far because of shallow perseverance. Hanbin was the spear that broke through all the members' insecurities. Look at them now. Any criticism they receive is always taken as a learning experience. They absorb everything and anything they can learn from.

Sometimes, I don't think people realize how influential a leader/mentor is. Hanbin's impact on the iKON members is so substantial, you can feel it in a seconds worth of interaction. Hanbin's leadership is summarized in simple looks and gestures with the absence of words.

Hanbin can manipulate #iKON's stages by a flick of his fingers, a look at the member's eyes & a touch on the back. He directs the stages as he performs. He sees everything that goes on the stage and beyond it. I want other people to experience the magnificence of his leadership.

What I love about iKON 's music

What I love about #iKON 's music is that with each genre they do, their innocence will always be there. It's what makes their music so uniquely them. No matter how heartbreaking their song is, the theme of their songs will always have selflessness in it as well as naivety.

imo, that's what makes them different. They never tried to be the victim in their songs. They let go of things not meant to be w/ an open heart. Regardless of who is at fault, they'll be the ones feeling apologetic. But despite that, there's an ounce of light and hope in it too.

#iKON 2018 Journey This isn't an in depth iKON appreciation thread. Tbh, I don't think I'll ever be able to pen down a thread that will give justice. It's too complex, too deep. I just want to share what my thoughts are about iKON's 2018 journey and anything prior to that.

Tbvh, when I learned about #iKON's comeback in Jan 2018, I wasn't expecting much. I really just wanted to hear their music again. I didn't care about the charts or the awards. Because prior to the first comeback of 2018, I had already escaped to my own little world outside of kpop.

~

2017 was a very toxic and cruel experience for me. It was filled with a lot of frustrations as well: from iKON's blatant mistreatment from their own company & management, fans leaving in hundreds at a time, and to haters mindlessly stepping on our downfall, it was really hard.

~

2017 was the year #iKON was coined "YG's biggest failure", "YG's flops" and the likes. And I think it was more painful for us fans who went through it and have followed the boys from pre-debut because we know the injustice of it all.

~

For us, #iKONICS, #iKON is the most hardworking, talented and deserving of all. So when everything went down in 2017, it didn't made sense to us bec it contradicted what we know & believe. It was even more painful because we knew that the boys were hurting more than we ever did.

~

#Donghyuk's weight loss, #iKON's evident decline in overall health & mental disposition, and iKON's obvious yet subtle rebellion & outcry of frustrations were only a few of the struggles we went through.

~

It was hard for us too because it seemed that no matter how loud we shout and how hard we cry to defend the boys, no one was listening.

~

Before Jan 2018, I clearly remember #iKONICS working as one to promote the comeback. There were numerous fan events here and there to help promote that iKON was coming back in Jan 2018. The attitude towards this release was already different.

~

The debut era was filled with curiosity, excitement and a sense finality. NK:BEGIN was full of frustration and unfairness. The LS era had a sense of homecoming, of accepting and of reassurance.

~

I truly felt that no matter what the outcome may be, iKONICS will love whatever #iKON will release. We really just wanted them to be back in their home ground not only by geographical means but also in health, mind, and body.

~

And they did. They really did come back and what a comeback it was. It was a slow uphill battle. And even when the battle was just starting, we, iKONICS, were already satisfied with their chart debut in TOP 10. We really only hoped for TOP 20.

~

I remember staying up in the wee hours of the morning while watching the song climb up the charts every hour. I was in tears. But even before I tracked the charts, I was already satisfied as I listened to the Return album for the first time and was already bawling.

~

I thought to myself: "The boys are really back. They are REALLY back. This is the #iKON I've loved from the very beginning." And I just remember crying so hard because it seemed so unrealistically real. Bias aside, New Kids: Return took me off guard.

~

I knew Hanbin was a great producer but I didn't realize the magnitude of his talents until I heard his creations from 2015 in the form of the Return album. Tbh, I felt like the album itself was a huge slap on the face to those people who questioned #iKON's talent. It really was.

~

As if Love Scenario did not do enough by just reaching the top of the chart, it decided to stay there for TWO months. It broke records after records after records.

~

But more so than the records broken and the awards gathered, it was the genuine smiles of the boys, the tears in their eyes as they accept their awards and their endless expression of gratitude that made me feel like I finally did something for the boys.

~

This is because even with the general public's approval, it was also us, iKONICS, who promoted the comeback, streamed for the song and are also the ones who bought the album. It was also our effort. And that effort reflected on their faces.

~

The year 2018 was the start of finally earning the recognition we've always wanted: iKON is a group of people who creates music as their passion. They create music that identifies them. It is the kind of music that is uniquely iKON. iKON IS WELL-MADE.

~

2018 was a breath of fresh air. I didn't realize I've been holding a lot inside til 2018. I didn't know I was gasping for air til iKON won SOTY & Hanbin w/ SWOTY. It was the conclusion of the story we all desperately tried to write all these years. I'm just so incredibly proud.

~

As this year comes to a close, I hope that we continue our grateful mindset for the things that come into fruitful this year. For old & new fans alike, there are no certainties for the upcoming year. We all knew that even before iKON debuted & all these success. Yet, here we are.

~

Our fandom isn't perfect. There will be days when we fight each other and disagree on a lot of things. There will be days when we, ourselves, are unsatisfied with our own fandom when we all think that many of us are not doing enough.

~

I just want everyone to understand that we all have our own circumstances & manifestations of how we support those we love. I want to remind everyone that we all are also capable of loving people w/ all their imperfections. This is why we're all still here.

~

Many of you regret not being w/ iKON from the start but we all have to start somewhere. I know it may seem intimidating to interact w/ other accts specially those who have been here for long.

~

So I just want to use the decent amount of followers that I have for people to voice out what they think. To everyone, new and old iKONICS, feel free to quote RT the next tweet and I promise to share the little platform I have with you.

Koo Junhoe: the Misunderstood

An appreciation thread. As we learn about people, we create our own personal versions of them. And so, we can all have different versions of one person. This is Koo Junhoe as seen through my personal lenses.

Our initial versions of different people are defined by simple interactions and first impressions. In a multi-faceted industry that #iKON belong in, it's not often that people get pass this concept.

~

When they started in this industry, people called him out for his rude, cold and straight face. His masculinity was intrusive and rough in the eyes of the media and of those who barely know him. People refuse to see the other side of that stone-cold face.

~

At the time they debuted, he was just 18 years of age. No one stopped and bothered to ask what he was feeling at the time. Why was he making those faces? Why does he seem so rude?

~

#June's piercing gaze is ice-cold. His masculine facial features are intimidating. His self-confidence tickles people's inferiority. Only a few of us are lucky enough to see through these. Despite his charming laugh & goofy antics, his physical aesthetics can work against him.

~

Even some #iKONICs forget that before Chanwoo came in, #June was the REAL maknae of the group. He was never the aegyo type of dongsaeng. He's more like the sassy dongsaeng who annoys you a lot. He's rarely endearing. More than affection, his savage teasing is topnotch.

He's the type of maknae who acts strong but needs a lot of caring and assistance. He has a fear of heights. He fears the water - he was saved by Yunhyeong from drowning before. He can't ride fast rides. He has a lot of fears and gets easily scared.

~

His exuberant personality, cheeky laugh & bizarre way of thinking makes him a natural comedian. He's straightforward w/ his unfiltered thoughts. He gets in trouble with his hyungs, more times than I can count, bec of his antics. #June is our very own manufacturer of #iKON memes.

~

#June is a person whose striking features and quiet persona in a sea of strangers are mistaken as coldness. But this is the same person whose shyness lays hidden under the gist of loudness. This is the same person who's wary of affection but welcomes his members' affections.

~

This is a guy whose room remains unclean with his floor housing piles of haphazardly thrown clothes. But he is also the same person whose most prized collections remains pristine on his shelf. He is the same person whose #iKON's team ring is always kept safe on his fingers.

~

People have a certain perception of #June that he's the type of person who has very little care about the world and those around him. I don't think that's the case. June doesn't care about a lot of things. But if he cares, HE CARES. To me, he's the most sentimental in #iKON.

#June is the guy who seems to not care about the things going on around #iKON. He's also the same guy whose frankness is misconstrued. He asks questions no one dares to ask.

But he's not indifferent to the roles of the members in the team. He's the first to point out that Hanbin and Jinhwan have always thought about the team more than their own selves.

He didn't know that the sun doesn't turn into the moon at night. He didn't know that you can't wash your phone w/ soap & water. He doesn't know a lot of things. But one thing he knows for certain ever since the beginning is that he belongs to the stage. He belongs to #iKON.

#June walked through his trainee life with bullheaded confidence and stubborn perseverance. This is the guy whose self-confidence have always been mistaken as arrogance. But only a few knows that this is the same guy who would seek Hanbin and his members out for validation.

#Junhoe wasn't always so confident as everyone sees him today. There were times he would second guess himself. There were times he would seek affirmation from his hyungs.

~

#June sends Hanbin his handwritten poems seemingly asking for approval. Why do I point this out? I want you to understand that despite his superficial self-confidence that he portrays on stage and online, June finds the need to validate something VERY PERSONAL to him.

~

I want people to understand that once you get pass #Junhoe's exterior persona, you'll find someone who isn't completely sure of themselves. No one ever truly is but people forget that because it is easier to find faults in others than within ourselves.

~

As someone who exudes a dominating persona, people forget that there are times he cowers from self-doubt. There are times when he flounders under the pressure of uncertainty.

What people have always misunderstood about #iKON is that their confidence isn’t built upon shallow superior self-outlook. This confidence was built upon trust. Trust that the members would keep them in line. Trust that the members would tell them what they’re lacking.

~

Trust that none of the members would leave any of them behind. Trust in that each member would hold their end of the bargain. Trust that onstage, it will be them, the SEVEN of them as #iKON.

~

#June's confidence is a result of years of reformation. His confidence today is a product of years of kicking himself for mistakes made on/offstage and unending battles of proving his talent. He is who is today because he welcomed those criticisms and used it as his weapon.

~

A lot of people tend to criticize his over-the-top adlibs and boldness during lives and how his spear-like self-confidence seems so out of control. #June doesn't do anything he's passionate about half-assed. There is no gray area. He loves what he loves and hates what he hates.

~

#JUNE's personality is like a book. His cover forms a preconceived opinion about who he is. But his mind is that of endless imagination of child-like interests and innocence with streaks of profound emotions. His soul is that of a wandering mind just like you and I.

~

#Junhoe's personality is much like water. No matter how many times I try to wrap my hands around him, he slips through my fingers. But one thing have always been clear to me. Each time he tries to escape my grasps, his imprints remain.

~

He may not know a lot of things but he knows things that matter. He may not know the mistakes he'll make but he will know how to reflect on them. He may be stubborn but he knows how to listen.He knows that when the world turns their backs to him his members will be there for him.

~

June is a man of many things. June is sassy. June is childish with his infectious cheeky smile and charming naivety. June is gullible. June and his two brain cells are enough to make us laugh

My conversation with @hanbinsmuse made me realized that people may not have a full grasp of the intention of my thread. Here's a short summation of what I tried to do. Thank you to this very kind mutual of mine who allowed me to share this short snippet of our convo.

super struggle! I had to edit it a lot of times because character count is so restrictive! But also it’s because I wanted to point out that Junhoe has always been someone who I find super closed up as a person. He only shows you what he wants to show you.

tbh, what we see from him in videos so far is just scratching the surface. He hasn’t allowed himself to be so exposed to the public.

And so I’ve always found that it’s very unfair for people to misjudge him like this. Because even I, a long time fan, hasn’t even been able to truly read him to the point that I have a good grasp of who he truly is.

Hanbin vs B.I

An answer to anon: Hanbin vs B.I A quick thread. I promise.

Anon is asking what's my opinion about #iKON Leader's dual personalities: Hanbin and B.I. I can only answer this if I relate myself to the image I have of Hanbin and his alter ego, B.I. Tbh, I think Hanbin is my bias because I truly see myself in him. 

~

We're similar in a way that we adjust ourselves based on who we're talking to, what we're doing and where we are. Just like Hanbin, I'm very different when I do my job and when I'm having fun. Within my circle of friends, I am known to have different alter egos.

~

I relate to #Hanbin in such a way that we choose the part of ourselves that we expose to those around us. IMHO, this is why Hanbin is able to become a very effective leader in #iKON.

~

#Hanbin is able to create a boundary (persona) that separates who he can be when it comes to work and when he's just Hanbin. I think this is why all #iKON members are protective of him.

~

They know both sides of him. He's the dongsaeng who's willing to receive the scrutiny and carry the workload. He's also the quiet leader who becomes very vocal when his team is stepped on.

~

#Hanbin is also the no BS leader who is authoritative, firm, and aggressive. But he's also the leader who had instilled in his members all these years that their individual responsibilities is to not be a burden for each other.

~

He created a team that is not self-centered. Everything they do as #iKON is done well because all the members work hard to uphold that individual responsibility. But he's also the Kim #Hanbin who is vulnerable.

~

He's also the Kim Hanbin who gets tired, frustrated, and longs for affection. He's also the Kim #Hanbin who seeks comfort from his hyungs. He's also the Kim Hanbin who becomes cheeky and playful with the maknae line.

~

I guess what I'm saying is, who #Hanbin is and who B.I. is encompass the enigma that is Kim Hanbin.

iKON's MAKNAE: JUNG CHANWOO  Appreciation thread

I just want to warn those who are reading this. If you're an OT6 fan, pls feel free to unfollow me and pls do not interact w/ anything related to this thread i.e. don't reply and don't quote RT. We don't need that negativity.

The world is already cruel enough for all of us. Spare us the dramatics. I am tired of defending #Chanwoo from all of you. Though I'm tired of it, pls know that I won't stop doing it. So please allow me to spread love to others without your negativity tainting it. Here we go.

When M&M happened, I had no doubt in my mind that Chanwoo will be iKON's 7th member. I was as sure of it as I was that all OT6 will be in iKON. There was something abt him that captivated me. He wasn't the most talented or the most eye-catching. He wasn't even the most talkative.

~

However, Jung Chanwoo was the only person who was introduced in the show that, imho, was considerate towards what OT6 was going through. He realized that he's piercing through a bond that's so strong that his introduction to the group would not be received well and so he waited.

From the very beginning, Chanwoo has always been the kind of person who refuses to be a burden. He wants to stand with his own two feet. He refuses to be acknowledged just because Hanbin was a great leader.

I love Chanwoo because he's always been self-aware of his capabilities and his position in the group. When faced with frustrations of things not going well, he recognizes the fact that compared to the others, he is lacking. He did not hide. He did not cower.

I know I can do this but I’m not doing as well as I thought.

What he did was he stayed behind in the practice room to catch up to the groupmates he's pulling behind. His sense of self-accomplishment was strong enough to push him to do well and to prevent himself from lingering at the bottom line.

So I’m not gonna give up even if it becomes really hard.

One of the reasons why Chanwoo blended in so well at that time was because Chanwoo, who was an outsider, already shared the same fierce determination and thirst for improvement that the OT6 was identified with.

Narrator: Chanwoo is practicing alone till late at night. 

He worked so hard to be acknowledged for his effort. He finally did in EP 6. But what squeezed my heart about that episode was the fact that Chanwoo shed tears because despite his efforts up to that point, he can't be fully happy while taking YOYO's spot.

~

He wasn't even at the bottom three at that time & yet he felt so bad taking a spot from the OT6. I realized at the end that he must have felt guilty since he'd always felt incapable. He must've thought that despite his efforts, someone else still deserves it more than he did.

~

At that moment, I thought to myself: "If there is anyone that should be with the OT6, it'll be Chanwoo." Because this kid has enough heart and empathy to realize that his success could be someone's failure in OT6. 

~

To me, a person w/ the kind of attitude to set aside self-greed to feel for those around him will seamlessly mold himself in the tenacious wall that OT6 have built around themselves. Because OT6 reached that far by thinking of the well-being of their members than themselves.

~

However, his anxiety and worry continue even after debut. After all, it can't be denied that their debut in 2015 means that Chanwoo only had over a year of professional training. He only had abt year to completely blend himself in the team.

People don't realize that #CHANWOO has YEARS to catch up to when it comes to training. If you're a true iKONIC, you should've realized that Chanwoo was able to improve this much despite the huge time differential of training compared to others.

Do you guys ever think about how much he had to work harder to not be the black hole in iKON? Do you ever think about the humiliation and disappointment he must have felt each time he practice one-on-one with Hanbin?

Each session must've felt like a harsh slap of realization of what level his skills are compared to the others. This was taken just a year ago. Many would think that a debuted idol wouldn't work this hard. But Chanwoo isn't like that. He knows his goals & he WILL pursue them.

I've said this before. I hate people who count lines per member. Line allocation will never equate to song quality. Hanbin giving lines not suited to Chanwoo's skills will only be detrimental to him. But does Chanwoo deliver? YES HE DOES!

The way #CHANWOO opened the song with his low melancholic tone just hits you straight to the heart. It wasn’t extravagant; it was impactful. It was subdued, almost too passively, but that’s what one goes through during a break up. You can’t do anything but accept it.

At the bridge, when all the instrumentals were stripped down to almost nothing, I cried bec of the weight of emotions delivered within those two lines. #Chanwoo ’s part was the culmination of all the emotions depicted in this song’s narrative. His voice is just perfect for that.

I want people to realize that #Chanwoo was able to perform this well because he did not sit on his ass all day long playing games. Nobody else knows more than Chanwoo himself how much he is lacking compared to the others. We all have only seen a glimpse of his talents.

I want to remind you that this year's releases were mostly written in 2015. We have yet to fully taste what these boys have to offer years after 2015. Don't get stuck on what could've been. It's been 4 years since the show.

~

Ask yourselves this: in any of iKON's dance practice videos, was there ever a moment when Chanwoo was a blackhole? As a matter of fact, Jinhwan makes more mistakes on choreo than Chanwoo ever did. This boy did not get on stage despite his injuries just for you to discredit him.

~

This boy did not get into iKON because of pity. He didn't get on that stage because he was forced to. He worked his ass off day in and day out knowing that his lack of skills could be harmful for the rest of them. But even when that fear lingers, he didn't let it foster.

Though Chanwoo has this fear, he would never beg for lines from Hanbin. Hanbin allows this because this is the only way Chanwoo will truly improve and genuinely feel accomplished. There is no shortcut to success.

So before you question Chanwoo's work etiquette, I want you to think about the position you're in. Because at this moment, as you write those comments discrediting Chanwoo's hard work, it isn't his ass sat on a chair with your face buried in front of a computer.

If you're truly a fan of iKON, you would understand why it's hard for Chanwoo to bring his members to film for his YT. Chanwoo is a very considerate person. He would never do anything to make someone uncomfortable.

Besides, he knows how it feels like for the members because he lives the same lifestyle. Also, the members are not selfish to refuse to go on Chanwoo's channel. They help him out when he asks. So please, give Chanwoo the freedom to film whatever he wants with whoever he wants.

The Hidden Leader: Song Yunhyeong 

I've always felt that #SongYunhyeong is underappreciated. Today, I remember back in WIN when even I didn't give him much attention. And I thought, if I did so back then, it is no doubt that a lot of people did the same.

This is a thread that delves on why Song Yunhyeong will always be #iKON's center in my perspective.

Many of you, mostly new iKONICS, may not know that Yoyo never intended to be an idol. He auditioned in YG to be an actor. He became a singer because he didn't want to leave the iKON members who became dear to his heart.

At the beginning, he didn't know how to dance, to sing, or to perform. He relied on the members to get him through his trainee life. This is why when he lost the mock elimination in M&M, he didn't feel sorry for himself but for the members who helped him. He even apologized.

Maybe it was gratitude towards the members that pushed him harder. Maybe it was self greed. But what I love most about Yoyo is that he threw his ego away in order to improve. He acknowledged his shortcomings. He didn't let any hierarchy to get in the way of his improvement.

Dongi once said that he finds YOYO really cool. Bec for someone who is older, it'll be hard for them to ask help from their dongsaengs. Yoyo threw that away & would always learn how to dance from Dongi. He would stay behind to practice in order to not ruin their perfect stage.

Remember during WIN when GD said "it's the responsibility of those in the centre to grab the attention of the audience." -not per verbatim-  Look at him on this stage a year after. Watch him own his stage. (1:30 timestamp)

Sometimes, it makes me sad when he acknowledges the fact that he's not one of the popular members of the group. What makes me proud is that instead of being grumpy abt it, he made it as a goal to make himself more known not only for himself but for Chanwoo and Dongie too.

What I love about Yunhyeong is his genuine love for people. You can observe this through his gratitude towards their staff & those who work w/ them. If you watch awesome feed, he'll always emphasize that he is nothing w/o the help of the staff that supports him.

Yoyo would always try his best not to be a burden. He's always been the reliable hyung who steps up to the plate when he knows that his team is falling apart. He's the force that pulls all the members back to its equilibrium & one of the bigger roots that keep this team grounded.

Yunhyeong becomes really emotional when it comes to his family. That's why whenever his members are going through a hard time, he's always there crying for them at times when the members themselves can't cry for themselves.

I don't ever want to think of what ifs & think about a scenario wherein Yoyo isn't in iKON. This guy have acted as one of the 3 major moral compasses that made iKON who they are today. He worries for them, feeds them and reprimands them like one blood to another.

The members might love to tease him a lot. But you can always feel that certain fondness they have for Yunhyeong. They've always admired how good natured he is.

Pre-debut era, imho, was probably the hardest. There were fans who were eager for Yunhyeong to leave the group because he wasn't at par to the standards of the other members. I beg to differ. These people just don't see the potential he has.

~

This guy had no musical background when he started. In only 2+ yrs of training, he was able to hit high notes that even Jinhwan struggled with. Some argues that his voice isn't unique but they don't realize that his clear tone is the glue that unites all vocal tones in iKON.

~

When they released Wait for Me, he had only been training in YG for a little less than 3 years. Just listen to the notes he's capable of in the short span of time. Just listen. (3:05 timestamp)

I want everyone to know that someone like him didn't come this far just because of mere luck. Yunhyeong was able to come this far because of his very own perseverance. There was no silver spoon. There was no favouritism. As a matter of fact, YG finds him quite lacking.

But in all the years I've watched iKON, there was never a moment when he lost hope even at the time that his own position was questioned. He even found it in himself to comfort Dongie, who was younger than him, instead of worrying about himself when he was in the same predicament.

It isn't a surprise that a selfless kind of guy like Yoyo will be acknowledged by their leader himself. Yoyo leads them in all things moral and benevolent. Someone can find him overly eager or EXTRA with his humour and with the way he lives his life.

But I want you to remember that his humor was probably one of the things that saved #iKON from depression all these years. His optimism was also probably a lifeline to iKON when their future was uncertain and gloomy.

~

Singing abilities can be honed, perfected, and improved; Yoyo's perseverance can attest to that. But an innate goodness in one's being is hard to come by. I hope everyone realizes than yoyo isn't just a pretty face. He's talented and good at what he does.

Behind his extra ass, that some of you are annoyed of, is a mask shielding his insecurity. So before you speak ill of someone, I hope you also realize that the Song Yunhyeong who is eager for his screen time is also the same Song Yunhyeong who worked hard for all this while.

I want to end this w/ a reminder to all of us. I hope that his kindness isn't taken advantage of. We all know that he's very welcoming to his fans & would do his best to please us. Please respect private boundaries at all times. They're idols we admire but they're also human too.
