would love to know whats going on with prime arcee's lil' upper cheek guard stubs that are like idw1 arcee's but hidden under her pointy cheek guard ridges. she also shares the chin armor that binaltech arcee & art of war #5 arcee were 1st to have followed by idw1 & animated 'cee.

notably, we weren't able to fit Classics, Prime, and Wings Flamewar onto this or anyone else based on the energon and prime molds (besides Elita who shares her mold with SG Arcee)

you know what did rule though? binaltech arcee. i absolutely love this figure. it's just the absolute polar opposite of G1-nostalgia toys trying desperately to turn the "blatantly not designed to be actual toys" stuff in the cartoon into "accurate" toys by making every female G1 autobot an extremely narrow car which also has the biggest backpack ever invented bar possibly MP hot rod's. look at her she's fantastic, about the only thing I wish is that they'd made the actual car mode pinker.

Okay so we finally had the time/energy to reply to this beautiful post, that made us feel things and we basically agree with:

Arcee's relationship with violence is even more fraught and painful for her not only by having been isolated and surrounded by violence and seeing hierarchies come and go in succession through that, but because she was keen to history (admittedly living through a lot of it and simply keeping track while remembering, but she is good at analyzing too) and trying to understand systems of power even if she couldn't get people in interpersonal interactions, and because violence and hierarchy continually took from her in her life and people around her before 1516 CE when her rampage starts. And this is apart from the 'rage and pain' and relief from no longer guilting herself over her surgery, that she draws on to keep going when she feels she has lost everything. She sees things in ways few of her cybertronian contemporaries do regarding how things are- and even speaks to that in the issue she was introduced in (though it was not intended to like, be like that) and was fighting for more than just vengeance over transmedicalism, she was trying to take down the imperialist strategist and his schemes attached to Nova Prime, at a time when Autobot command was basically clueless about who Jhiaxus was much less in his relevance to present day politics.

We read a (we think removed now) misunderstanding on the wiki once to the effect of her having homicidal tendencies due to her surgery. Between that and the original SG Arcee's writing being a tasteless derivative of IDW1 Arcee while also being a Dissasociative Identity Disorder stereotype (we have things to say about villainizing a trans multiplicity system, at least Binaltech Arcee who helped make gestalt Alternity a reality exists on the other hand, but the closest another bot has come to SG Arcee's mental experiences was IDW2 Cyclonus, whose system written incredibly well) left us thinking, well, we can't not navigate this. Because like, if IDW1 Arcee had killed people in a homicidal frenzy, and if she did have a different experience of personhood in her brain (which we think is easy to fill in headcanon-wise with how much trust is important to her, how passionate she is about caring for people when she has the opportunity to do so, all the knowledge she carries, very much coming off as autistic, and how alone she feels. specifically thinking of the dialogue from when she's putting her ethical viewpoint back together in a new form and she's says she likes different things about how Prowl and Optimus look at the world) - would that really take away or lessen her arc of coming into her own in EXRID?

Of course not. It only adds to it if handled well. We say this in part from our view that prisons are not helpful - and in fact Spotlight Arcee unintentionally shows this because when she's pulled back out she hadn't really recovered from what happened to her, having gotten no help at all from a system that didn't understand her, left alone, and thus on her path tortures people until Jhiaxus (which is the last time she does that). So like, if she had had additional things she had done that she regretted besides torture and complicity in colonial genocide (Antilla) - we would say, and have written to the effect of, that doesn't make her crazy (none of it does) and can be helped in other ways than being punitive. This is a bit of a 'screw you' and reclamation on our part towards people who think that we trans and system/multiplicity folks (we're plural btw) are horrendous, while also being about celebrating the kind of justice Arcee loves the most and denied herself: transformation. Perhaps one could say all the violence in the world continuing is part of why she took so long to figure out her gender, because the personal dysphoria that would recognize would require her to believe she could change and was deserving of it- and why it would, trauma accounted for as well, be why it took her so long to reformat a second time, on Gorlam Prime, and did so with more frequency afterwards, before settling on one combining the cybertronian surgery she wanted from Ratchet with an Earth mode reformat she took on by herself.

Ultra Magnus showing up to arrest her was the symptom of a horrendously out of touch regime that didn't know how to support bots who weren't forged men and that also had really bad intel on Jhiaxus.

That she survives all that, and gets to be happy, having found trust and love and her wisdom blossoming fully as she gets more agency and doesn't have to fight for herself constantly every day, makes us so happy.

we would write more but are devoting our spoons to another bit of Arcee writing we hope to release at some point regarding canon specifically and irl trans history, the rough draft was well received (if you're really interested we could send you a copy)

This is just a long ramble about Arcee and her relationships and why she embodies the themes of Barber’s work and I have many many many feelings about her and this is me trying to put it into words.

so happy to have a deluxe sized 4.7 inch tall galvatron (goleatron) who is nearly the same height of our idw1 arcee custom (the head was designed by @doomspoons.bsky.social you can download an stl here pluralsword.itch.io/idw1-arcee-h... ), they look so cute.

we deeply enjoyed seeing the height difference in idw1 & equally appreciate the story reason for why, we just also enjoy seeing arcee remain nearly same height as her sibling with the body she reformats to for gender affirming reasons- amusingly binaltech arcee is at height with leader wfc galvatron. We have made a voyager sized arcee via an arcana magnus custom from legacy bulkhead some years ago, we want to find a leader scale figure besides galvy to do her from, gonna repaint both with reaperminipaints eventually so she's easier to transform

-Steven Caple Jr. has said that aspects of Rise of the Beasts were inspired by the Unicron comic miniseries of IDW1 that capped off EXRID and TAAO (really all of the IDW1 Hasbroverse except MTMTE/Lost Light, will note we're currently unsure if the Clue stuff was still going) save for it's final issue (Post), so while someone would need to ask to confirm we feel like this is clearly why Arcee is Optimus's right hand in the film

-Earthspark Arcee is so very clearly inspired by IDW Arcee in part while doing her own thing. the teaching (also an Animated aspect), the martial arts and incredible feats therein (in this case though unarmed), Robby literally asks her if she'll teach her "berserker rage" etc.

-Transformers One Arcee has cheek guards extended from her helm that are the kind of thing IDW Arcee is known for (and began with Binaltech Arcee with much thicker armor herein, and it's unclear if those two are related in that way)

So with all that in mind, just some thoughts/desires on the future of Arcee in film/animation in regards to film/animation:

Basically, while we think there's nothing wrong with casting cisgender voice actors for versions of Arcee who are in part inspired by her canonically trans and transcoded iterations, we hope that someday they go all the way and have a transfemme voice actor for her with a major role, at least once, if not more than once. Our dream would be if they ever also do a film focused on Arcee and it has multiverse theming that she'd get to team up with a number of other Arcees based on other continuities (and like, in that case the gender spectrum of the voice actors could obviously vary more than the vastness of the transfeminine spectrum). I dunno. The thing Mae Catt said about wanting Earthspark Arcee to be trans gave us some hope in addition to all this that we might actually get a version of her that is outside of the comics sometime in the next decade, and maybe actually have her gender journey touched on. I mean, there's two different explicitly trans Arcees in canon, one in Ask Vector Prime and the other one in IDW1, off of whom basically all of the IDW Arcees who came after are iterated off of to some degree (including crossovers. Sidenote, her TTRPG bio in the Autobot book is definitely based on her, and Gauge's bio in her pregen character sheet in the starter box set directly references Arcee has her mentor. This also came with a sheet for Anode that touched on a new version of her own trans journey!). We think both trans narratives are very adaptable considering what IDW1 Arcee's end up being in the end as someone who sought gender affirming surgery during a time when gender variation was being abandoned on her world, was betrayed by her transmedicalist surgeon, and as a survivor managed to carve out a future with the help of another trans gal for a time and eventually found her way back into transformer and galactic conflict on her own terms, finally finding community, love, and a job that didn't involve fighting and a shape she adored in the postwar era after the hierarchies that had bothered her were finally mostly gone (if you want to read about this we have an essay about it and also the conceptual origins section of her IDW1 tfwiki page has a shorter overview of how her narrative changed quite a lot over the years). AVP Arcee's story of kicking off a gender revolution in understandings and gender affirming care is also rather beautiful (you can check out the archived official Ask Vector Prime 1.0 entry here). They could also combine both or just tell a different story with a transfemme version of her. We'd be happy with any of those four possibilities 💜🏳️‍⚧️

There are voicedubs of IDW1 Arcee where transfemme voice actors were sought out, can't that happen for something official too? Voice dubs have way less resources so usually getting more than one person to do a whole dub is already a lot

We (as in our system) owe her and the other transfemme and sapphic transformers our she pronouns you know? We love her, and we know other people love her too

so very happy to find out about this wow, I really hope they do end up doing prototype deco decades ago proposed G1 Arcee, after all these years. Arcee having orange on her deco is rare, this has only happened since then with Binaltech Arcee and IDW1 Arcee between 2012 - 2015...🧡🤍💜

Haven't seen photos or art of Arcee with Leia, who she was based on in part, so with all our blade Arcees and Leia using a lightsaber in eu & canon too we figured a while ago we might as well be the ones to do it. Also, yes, Arcee has had a beam saber before besides thermal blades, in Transformers vs. GIJOE by Tom Scioli and John Barber
