what was their end game?

What was the end game of the Earth Kingdom and Water Tribes when the Fire Nation attacked? To survive, yeah. but if they thought it would end? How did they think that?

Like the only invasion of the Fire Nation was post gaang which were Fong’s plan and Sokka’s plan.

What were those invasion plans even going to accomplish? After they depose the Firelord, the biggest army on earth currently disbanded, all of those people will form mercenary groups that will cause so much chaos and disorder. Also people will be dead due to the removal of the Fire Lord.

Without Zuko, who at the time of Fong’s plan was being hunted by Azula and still fiercely loyal to the FN. The whole nation would've collapsed.

The Fire Islands would've become just as bad as Szeto's time and there could be the possibility of the FN collapsing as Aang could not have focused on the FN as Szeto could because the Air Nation is just him.

Also, due to the power gap of the FN, Long Feng could easily make a FULL Unlateral government with him in charge and allowing him to depose Kuei (The Earth King).

So basically Earth King domination, Fire Nation collapse, possibly Air Nation collapse due to no support from Zuko, Avatar Cycle broken, The Water Tribe would be fine probably as the Earth King would not want those lands. Maybe Aang would be hunted by the Earth Kingdom.

Also rebellions in the Earth King due to Long Feng's illegitimate claim and coup. Which might result in Earth Kingdom collapse.

So if Sokka's worked, Zuko would take the throne but he might not be trusted and killed by Hakoda or the Earthbending army, which would lead to the rest that I just described.

But it couldn't work as they would probably have to kill Ozai as Aang doesn't have energy bending and the eclipse lasts eight minutes. And rebellion ensues as Ozai's dead but maybe the rebellions hopes would be crushed if Ozai's dead and Azula would be a wild card after that.

Iron might be killed in the confusion and Azula would go out in a blaze.

So the only member of the royal family still alive would be Ursa, who is in hiding.

But if Zuko and Iroh are alive then the FN might not collapse.

Now that the Dai Li is loyal to the FN royal family, the Earth Kingdom will not focus on the FN.

So Sokka's would probably work both logistically and tactically while Fong would make sure that every nation except the Water Tribes would collapse and the Avatar Cycle would be broken.
