Golden State Warriors General Manager Bob Myers Steps Down After 12 Years

The Golden State Warriors' GM, Bob Myers, is resigning from his position, according to the team's announcement on Tuesday. Myers played a significant role in transforming the Warriors into one of the NBA's most dominant and exciting teams, securing four NBA titles and making six appearances in the Finals, five of which were in consecutive years. Myers' current contract is set to expire in late June, and he has reportedly rejected a new offer.  At a press conference, Myers stated that "it's just time" to step down, even though it was a "tough" decision for him. Myers further elaborated that he has only operated in one manner his whole life, and it wouldn't feel right to continue without being able to give his all to the position, which was necessary to achieve the team's success over the previous 12 years. In 2012, he selected Draymond Green, who would ultimately become a vital building block for the team, and recruited Steve Kerr as head coach in 2014. When combined with Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, who were already part of the Golden State team, their distinctive approach tore through the league, leading to the squad becoming one of the most accomplished in the NBA. In 2015, the Warriors concluded a 40-year dry spell between NBA championship victories by winning the title before establishing the high-water mark for the most regular-season victories (73) the following year. Myers' shrewd moves ensured the team's continued success. They won three more championships with the core players of Curry, Thompson, Green, and Kerr kept intact, and additional assisting players were recruited. Kevon Looney, Jordan Pool, Andre Iguodala, Andrew Wiggins, Kevin Durant, and DeMarcus Cousins all joined the team through the draft, trades, or free agency. Myers was recognized for his role in building the championship-winning squad and named the NBA's Executive of the Year twice. The Warriors' owner, Joe Lacob, informed reporters that the team has not yet pinpointed a successor for Myers. Lacob stated that their organization is robust and there is potential for an internal candidate to be selected, but no decision has been made yet. Lacob intends to focus on resolving the matter. And you came through! Although your tenure as a general manager was phenomenal, I am indebted to you as an eternal friend. We impacted each other's lives!
