The Avro Lancaster entered service with the RAF in 1942 and became one of the most successful night bombers of the war. The Lancaster was also used by Argentina, Australia, Canada, Egypt, France, New Zealand, and Poland.
There were several adaptations of the Lancaster including the Upkeep 'bouncing bomb' special for the Dambuster raid, and versions made to carry the Tallboy and Grand Slam bombs.

I swear it on my own medallion — whose twin was lost with Paige. I swear it on the memory of my sister, everything she fought for, and everything she taught me. I’m Rose Tico, and I swear I’ll find a way to defeat the First Order. For Otomok. For freedom. And for you, Paige.

High Wycombe manufacturing history
Cloth was the industry of this Buckinghamshire village, like so many places in Britain. The Stirling was designed during the late 1930s by Short Brothers to conform with the requirements laid out in Air Ministry Specification B.12/36. In early 1941, the Stirling entered squadron service. During its use as a bomber, pilots praised the type for its ability to out-turn enemy night fighters and its favorable handling characteristics, whereas the altitude ceiling was often a subject of criticism. The Stirling had a relatively brief operational career as a bomber before being relegated to second-line duties from late 1943, due to the increasing availability of the more capable Handley Page Halifax and Avro Lancaster, which took over the strategic bombing of Germany.

Nose Art in RAF Bomber Command, 1939-1945
'I argue that nose art functioned in part as a kind of a cultural tool or language through which to engage with discourses of the morality of warfare.'
