Ok, so i followed each step carefully. i did this twice. Data management > 3ds > extra data > checked for mii maker > took sd out went to mset9 installer > set up > all buttons were greyed out reinserted the sd card > 3ds continuously loading so i removed (1st time automatically through the mset9 installer app, 2nd manually by going onto the folder with gibberish/chinese characters and deleting it, and checking if the other folder had the user data thing at the end of it- it didnt, so i left it the same. reinserted. hovered over setting > power off > retried data management > 3ds > extra data. checked for mii maker > took the sd out > went to mset9 installer > set up > buttons were greyed out after. and i reinserted it to get the same issue again. posting here on Tumblr to get more people to see this cuz im losing it

Both installing system updates and installing Boot9Strap (a CFW loader) will modify the System Memory in very critical areas, and they both do this EXTREMELY safely. But both can still end up bricking if something somehow went wrong, as astronomically unlikely as that is.

im using my old 3ds (that’s hacked) to test support files since my actual version of fe fates is so heavily modded i wanna make sure the supports are added to the vanilla game but not anything else, so i speed-ran the first 6 chapters of revelation to test the support and was super disappointed none of them seemed to be added... and then it occurred to me i might not have custom file patching even enabled bc the last time i ever touched this 3ds was in 2016 just to hack it and see if i could without breaking the console, before moving onto my new 3ds. and the CFW on said old 3ds was so... well, old that it didn’t even have patching custom files as an option sdkjfhksdhf

i am once again advocating that everyone hack your 3DS. it's easy and free and safe if you follow instructions. it allows for so much functionality and when the 3ds eshop goes down next month it'll be the ONLY way to obtain a plethora of titles found only on the eshop.

i'm no expert, but i've messed with it enough i'm happy to answer questions about installing games or using pokemon save editors or things like that.

Reminder again since the eshop is closed, you can still mod any 3ds you have and its easy to do

With nintendo officially closing the 3DS and Wii U eshops on 3/23/23 don’t forget that emulating is real easy or you could always just do some softmodding on your 3DS and Wii U yourself

I’ve personally used both of these guides for my own 3DS and Wii U and my consoles are perfectly fine; only thing I would recommend you invest in for homebrew on your consoles is to get micro sd cards with decent storage capacity
