Hannah woke up in her best friend's guest room, heart hammering, to realize the door was open.

"Oh fuck," she whispered shakily, out loud despite herself.

A moment later, the hallway outside echoed with *click-clacks* of hard nails on the hardwood floor. A shadow darkened the small gap of light in the doorway. The door opened, just a little more. A wet snort sounded. Then the door opened to reveal a 200-pound English Mastiff.

Her eyes widened. Then they shut tight. She could pretend to be asleep, pretend not to notice. She could do that. She could--

Rex padded into the guest room, tags jingling loudly. At this hour, they might as well have been rattling hundred-pound chains. He was huge. His giant brindle head easily cleared the bedframe, boxframe, and mattress and nestled next to Hannah's cheek, where his cold nose brushed her earlobe.

My girlfriends and I's bed needed to to be replaced like at least two years a go. But between money troubles and thinking we were gonna have to move we held it off. But its getting to a point where we cant hold it off. It is affecting our body and exasperating our chronic pain, and fatigue.
