I love buffy summers so so much. She’s so perfect and so incredibly complex and flawed.

She loves her sister more than anything in the world. She makes terrible puns. She wasn’t able to kill her soulless ex-boyfriend when she first had the chance. She blames herself for his murder of her father figure’s girlfriend. She wears bedazzled beanies while hunting demons. She always believes children when they tell her about the monsters under their beds.

She’s patrolled in a halterneck many times. She has a multitude of cross necklaces which she switches out depending on her outfit. Sometimes she fears she’s just a glorified killer. She was murdered when she was sixteen and died to save the world when she was twenty. When her mother died she waited until she was alone to do the dishes and let the running water cover the sound of her cries. She’s terrible at undercover.

She wears hoop earrings while fighting for her life. She was reduced to a catatonic state when she believed that she had failed to protect her sister. She’s isolated herself from anyone she believed cared about her more than once. She’s suffered from severe ptsd and depression. She critiques old kung fu movies from a fight choreography standpoint.

She is an expert in denial and suppression. She came back wrong - or at least she thought she did. She desperately tries to keep to a code of honour even when everything she believes about right and wrong is constantly shifting around her. She bears the weight of the world on her shoulders. She sleeps with a stuffed pig named Mr Gordo. She’s feared that her duty as the slayer would turn her to stone, that above all else she would lose her ability to love.

She loves more fiercely than anyone in the world.

A big part of the reason of why I believe Spike is a good partner for Buffy is because of how I saw him behave with Drusilla when she was sick. Like yeah he is a hot and edgy vampire , but he would also nag Buffy about not drinking enough water.

That woman is the most exhausted and wound up creature in that series and she deserves someone that would fuss over her

buffy summers was sixteen and she died and saved the world. then she slept with her boyfriend and he turned evil and threatened and tortured and murdered all the people she cared about. then he turned good again and she had to kill him. she had to watch him as he closed his eyes because he trusted her and she had to stab him through the heart and send him to hell. and every single person she loved was mad at her about it.

okay but like, as much as I am a fervent proponent of “not every ship should get married and in fact some of them would Never” - especially in context of enemies-to-lovers - I hope that everyone who sees me posting like that knows I am not talking about Spuffy. in fact, I would go so far as to say they are the two characters most willing and even desperate to get married that I’ve ever seen.

one of Buffy’s most persistent struggles is her right to girlhood and the inevitable expiration date she faces as the Slayer. she’s forced to fight and claw for every possible milestone that other girls around her take for granted - trying out for the cheer squad, running for prom queen, going to college, etc. one of the nightmares she has after killing Angel is about being unable to be a bride and get married. in Something Blue, she throws herself into wedding planning with a passion that speaks to her having daydreamed about it. in most cases, her commitment issues veer toward clinging rather than avoidance, and marriage is absolutely one of those beautiful, unreachable things that were ripped away from her when the Powers chose her. it haunts her.

Spike is probably even more obvious - he’s a man from Victorian England, a society that held marriage on a pedestal. furthermore, he is fundamentally a creature of devotion, never straying from Drusilla for over a century, and then from Buffy even after she was dead. their desperation is also quite similar - Spike’s original community had considered him undesirable, barring him from a love match; and while a union may have been arranged for him as a human, his vampirism took that option away entirely, in the same way that Buffy’s becoming did it. during Something Blue, he is just as committed to planning the minutiae of the wedding as Buffy is, even though they could’ve just decided to do it at the courthouse and get it over with under a shoehorned pretext. he’s been dreaming of a wedding for 150 years, let’s be real

Spuffy would’ve gone insane about a wedding. they would’ve fallen in love worse. they would have threatened each other with divorce constantly but stayed married anyway for however long they lived. hell, they should’ve done it just for the CPS reasons in season 6, just imagine having to hide it from everyone except the government, lest Anya thinks they’re trying to steal her thunder

dawn testing "things that would send a victorian child into a coma" on spike, but the problem is that he`s been present during the inovation of all those atrocious things, so then she brings her top gun - buffy and makes her flash her ankles, the victorian in spike was struck by a fatal blow and almost choked himself to another death, he needs a couple of minutes to regain his strength.

BUFFY SEASON 7 SPOILERS AHEAD!

CONTEXT- BuffyxCordelia au where Cordelia never leaves Sunnydale and after buffy gets Kicked Out of Her Own Damn House she runs into Cordelia on the streets who’s like ‘Buffy? girl u look like shit what happened??’ She takes her home and Buffy gets reminded of a part of life she really enjoys, the other thing she’s really good at, looking hot and having good hair. Life talk turns into revealing old truths about how hot and jealous they were of each other during high school, ‘No YOU owned the knee high boot mini skirt combo’ turns into ‘You think I tried to date every guy you were close to for a laugh?’ The wine is gone and everythings a little to earnest to be just girl talk. They just want what they have always wanted, beautiful women, sorry *to be* beautiful women. Slip of the tongue. (Get it?)

the hardest thing in this world is to live in it. be brave. live. is so beautiful and such a heart wrenching moment between buffy and dawn but it’s also the saddest thing I have ever heard. this is coming from buffy summers, who ever since she was called has had to fight every day of her life to survive. coming from a girl who was murdered when she was sixteen years old, who didn’t want to die. this is coming from a girl who had to kill the person she was in love with to save the world. someone who has seen classmates slaughtered on a regular basis. a girl who found her mother dead on their living room couch from a brain tumour. a girl who fought tooth and nail to survive every battle, every single apocalypse. who despite every effort to live is sacrificing her life all over again at twenty.

the hardest thing in this world is to live in it. buffy summers knows better than anyone just how hard that is.

Sometimes I'm here thinking damn. A soulless creature, one who isn't supposed to "feel" or have any moral compass whatsoever, no concept of what is right and what is wrong, reckless and chaotic, a literal demon supposedly driving his actions, a purely selfish creature, managed to not only keep doing good despite his only reason for doing so being dead and gone (no plan on bringing her back), but literally going out of his EVIL way to GET a soul (THAT MORAL COMPASS THAT WOULD BE OH SO RESTRICTIVE TO A FREE, NO SENSE OF GUILT DEMON), so that the one he loves can "get what she deserves."
