Chicken Burger, with ground chicken meat:

The meat can end up quite dry very easily if cooked wrong and I think that's a lot of why they aren't very popular.
extremely funny that americans specifically don't call chicken burgers burgers. what makes beef so special to yall lol

I have a hypothesis about the "burger"-"chicken sandwich" discourse. I want to see something.

Furthermore, if someone asked for a "plain hamburger" and said, "I want nothing but the burger," it would be a reasonable interpretation that they didn't even want the bun
i understand this completely because i am not a heathen european

I genuinely don't know where I fall on this, a crab cake meets the criteria of "patty containing meat" (do not argue with me over whether crab is meat its literally called crab meat) but there's a lot of other stuff in there
What I AM sure of is that if it is a burger, it's a crab cake burger NOT a crabburger

I do wonder if all the Burger Semiotics Discourse come down to the fact that Yanks will call mince or ground meat hamburger
#the 'I feel like hamburger' thing that would come up in US cartoons would throw me off a little as a kid#until I realised they're were talking about Mince meat#hamburger#burger#burger discourse#yanks and I think some Canadians are the only people who call it that it's mince

Okay, Americans (and everybody else) there are at least three different variables getting conflated here. To start, which of these things "count" as a burger?

BURGERS 👏 ARE 👏 GROUND 👏 MEAT 👏
enough of this BUN BULLSHIT they're called that because they were MADE. FOR. BURGERS. the BURGER existed BEFORE THE BUN!!!!
and the buns are used FOR OTHER THINGS TOO!!! for example: Chicken Sandwich (NOT CHICKEN BURGER) or Pulled Pork Sandwich (ALSO NOT A BURGER!)

the bun does not make it a burger!!! the state of the PROTEIN does!!! a Chicken Burger can exist but it's made with GROUND CHICKEN not A FRIED CHICKEN PATTY!!!! burger is GROUND MEAT (or meat substitute)!!!!!!!!!
also: burgers Are a sandwich. it's stuff between 2 bread. all burgers are sandwiches. BUT. NOT ALL SANDWICHES ON BUNS ARE BURGERS.
#nerd alert#burger discourse#ENOUGH IS ENOUGH#i know its not that serious but please#the usa gets so much stuff wrong. we're in the wrong on like almost everything.#but in this case? EVERYONE ELSE IS WRONG AND WE ARE RIGHT.

It's called a hamburger bun because it's most commonly used for hamburgers. It doesn't have the magical property of making whatever's placed on it a burger. If I fill a hot dog bun with Sloppy Joe, is that a hot dog? Does tossing buffalo wings in a salad bowl suddenly make them salad? Get a grip.

im learning more about burger culture every day. so if a basic beef patty burger was instead made with a patty that was made of chicken, would that still be a burger? would a regular beef patty burger made with bread slices instead of buns be considered a burger? i am fascinated by the burger-qualifications, please tell me more
IMO (qualifications: i am an east coast american and have lived in 2 other continents so i have been exposed to how other cultures languages and experiences eat sandwiches and burgers) a burger needs two things:
1/ patty (ground beef, ground chicken, veggie, this doesn’t matter as long as the patty is made of compacted meat or whatever, shape also doesn’t matter, can be square or circle or smashed)
2/ bun (burger bun is round and soft on top and has a soft inside, and is sometimes topped with sesame seeds, and is sliced in half)
Patty in toasted sliced bread like from a loaf of bread — NOT a burger ❌
hot dog in a soft round bun — NOT a burger ❌
chicken breast in a soft round bun — NOT. A burger ❌
ground chicken or beef patty in a soft round bun — this is a burger 🍔 ✅
veggie or bean patty in a soft round bun — this is a burger 🍔 ✅
and don’t forget to vote in the poll lol
