If Yellowjackets had a mostly male cast and an actress who was a fan of the show got written in to literally be the perfect match for one of the male characters, challenging a m/m slash pairing, be smart, cute, rich AND also conveniently fix problems for the plot (and possibly have no ulterior motives just existing to be a perfect heterosexual love interest)
like holy shit. Walterina would be absolutely fucking annihilated by the fandom. Shippers would be flaming the actress on her socials until she shut them down. Then imagine the show ends with all of the queer and POC yjs dead and only white m/f Mister and Walterina get to live happily ever after? people would be setting showtime hq on fire. Im just saying the double standards be standing double

PARAMOUNT+ WITH SHOWTIME GREENLIGHTS SEASON FOUR OF YELLOWJACKETS
Release follows - interesting to note it IS a Season 4 renewal, not a "fourth and final season" or whatever.
Season Three Set Record as the Most Watched and Most Engaged on Social
Production Dates to be Announced Shortly
May 20, 2025 – "Yellowjackets has become a cultural juggernaut; with season three shattering all previous records, we are thrilled to announce its renewal for a season four on Paramount+," said Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount Global and President of SHOWTIME/MTV Entertainment Studios. "Ashley and Bart have masterfully crafted an utterly singular, genre-defying phenomenon: a perfect alchemy of psychological horror, survival thriller and coming-of-age drama that continues to captivate audiences worldwide, brought to life by our extraordinarily talented and beloved cast."
Created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, Yellowjackets is the saga of a team of wildly talented high school girls' soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness. Equal parts survival epic, psychological horror and coming-of-age drama, the series chronicles their descent from a complicated yet thriving team to savage clans while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later. It proves that the past is never really the past and what began in the wilderness is far from over.
Season three marks the most-watched season ever, with the April finale becoming the most-streamed Yellowjackets episode in series history. On social, season three stands as the most-engaged season ever for the show.
Yellowjackets season three stars Emmy nominee and Critics Choice Award winner Melanie Lynskey, Emmy® nominee Christina Ricci, Tawny Cypress, Emmy nominee Lauren Ambrose, Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Samantha Hanratty, Courtney Eaton, Liv Hewson, Steven Krueger, Warren Kole, Kevin Alves, Sarah Desjardins and Simone Kessell, with Elijah Wood in a recurring role. Two-time Academy Award®-winning actress Hilary Swank guest stars this season along with Joel McHale and Ashley Sutton.
YELLOWJACKETS season three is executive produced by Lyle, Nickerson and fellow showrunner Jonathan Lisco. Drew Comins of Creative Engine also serves as executive producer along with Jeff W. Byrd, Sarah L. Thompson, Ameni Rozsa and Brad Van Arragon. The series is produced for SHOWTIME® by Lionsgate Television.
Yellowjackets is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution. All previous seasons of Yellowjackets are available to watch now on streaming and on demand on Paramount+ with SHOWTIME.

12. “It’s no use.”
| Locked Door | Carry | Lost
Day 12 @juneofdoom
Entangled Minds - Eva takes control of her body, and starts a game of Cat and Mouse with Elijah, Elijah calls for a bigger beast
Set The Originals - Season 2, Episode 17
---
“It’s no use.” Finn panted, breath coming out hard from their run, “we can't esape her or hide, we're in her mind.
Finn was very familiar with his brother's mind, long white hallways, memories compartmentalize behind white doors, this wasn't it.
The fact he had only seen a few doors scattered as the fled the witch made it clear which mind was winning, which was likely the reason Elijah looked maybe seven.
Something that placed him at a strict disadvantage against Eva, not that Finn was much better only appearing a handful of years older.
“I’m in her head, you can leave.” Elijah snipped, Finn glared.
“You called for help.” he reminded him, he had been in Freya's pendant clinging onto the faint comfort that he was in Freya's hands, as he tried to ignore the similarity of it to his centuries in the coffin, aware but helpless and alone when once again Elijah had been an escape.
“I panicked.” his little brother snapped looking every inch of his new appearance.
“This isn't working.” He returned the subject back to the pressing concern, they had lost her but for how long?
“Are you suggesting I give up?” Elijah replied,
“Bargin,” he offered, “you’re the deal maker, you've always had a talent for words.”
“That won't work.”
“Why not?”
“You need something of offered to start,” Elijah said, as if it was obvious and Finn was a idiot for suggesting it, “and besides the fact she hates me for stealing her body, she just wants power.”
“So-” he started only to get cut off
“that she can get on her own” Elijah continued, “by sacrificing the young witches she stole, including Kol, and while you don't care what happens to our little brother, I do.”
“He's the reason your in this body.” Finn pointed out.
“He made a stupid mistake, he does that!” Elijah snapped voice raising in rage. “Doesn't mean you throw him away or try to hex him!”
“So what's you plan?” Finn said ignoring the last part, he's not thinking about the fact that he may have allowed his anger and resentment carry him too far then and it had only been Elijah possessing him and impaling his palm that stopped him making a mistake of his own.
“I'm tired of witches interfering with my mind” Elijah told him “and I'm not letting this child get what she wants.“
“I think your confusing which of us is the child here, thief.” A voice called malice loud.
Finn didn't waste any time waiting for her to appear and instead sweep Elijah up into his arms to carry as he broken into a run again.
He was fleeing aimlessly through the warehouse until Elijah suddenly started giving him directions which he followed until they led him right into a door.
A locked door.
Not just any locked door as Finn stumbled back letting Elijah down in shock.
A red door.
The red door, he realised, the one mother had tried to use to get Elijah on their side, the one he hadn't noticed in any of the years he had wandered Elijah's mind to escape the coffin.
“Wait, this is- Elijah?” he called in concern, jumping when the door banged, something on the other side aware of them.
“You have another idea?” Elijah asked taking a step closer to the worn red wood of their human lives. The modern lock on it seemed an apt metaphor for their current lives.
No Finn thought, irritated.
“Do you even know what you're letting out?” He said instead of admitting it.
“Me.” Elijah said simply. His hand tiny as he reached out and curled around the lock.
It turned to ash under his hand.
All was quiet and still for a moment before the door creaked and opened inwards.
An Elijah stepped out, fully grown, red eyes, blood stained and dressed in a suit. Finn had to look up to meet his face and the size difference between his little brother and the beast that was also his brother was striking as the best towered over Elijah as Elijah stood his ground.
“You accept.” the beast asked with a cruel smirk and raised eyebrow.
“Completely,” Elijah smiled back at the beast, “show her the monster we are.”

HIII if you don’t mind sharing, what are your fav klaroline fics? New and old, I’m in need of new reads 🙏
I'm probably not the best person to be doing new fic recs. 🥲 I have sadly not been reading that much Klaroline myself these days. When I do read fic, it's for other stuff. So my recs are either old or new-ish. 😂 But hopefully you can find something to your liking that haven't read yet here.
Buckle up because I took my sweet time with this list, nonnie.
Tumblr media
. Inertia Overcome by @avari20
The first KC fanfic I remember reading the reason why I finally got pulled into the fandom after years of watching TVD as a reasonable spectator (so rly, if you guys can't stand to see me around anymore after all this time, it's this fic's fault for being so good). Honestly one of this fandom's statement works. If you haven't read it yet, please do.
. Timeless by @marvelouskatie
Same as the above. One of the most iconic KC fics of all time imho. The canon AU to end all canon AU. When I first decided to come out of the shadows and create a tumblr and actually start interacting with folks, this was the first fic that was recced to me. I was very grateful then, and now I'm here to pass this knowledge on.
. Picturesque by @supernutellastuff
Honestly of the sweetest, most heartwarming fics I've ever read! It's a human AU that's a How I Met Your Mother sort of adaptation, and honestly the first time I've ever enjoyed HIMYM. I love a good ensemble fic and this is just it! Supernutella is so talented.
. Quiet Light by @definedareasofuncertainty
This fic was WRITTEN FOR ME because of how much I pestered my friend Luiza about Carolijah and this will forever feel like a trophy to my heart. 🥰 It made me feel ALL THE FEELINGS. I hated Caroline, I loved Caroline, I loved my baby Elijah, I hated him, I also hated Klaus (he's such a fucking asshole omfg), but then the end was just DHAGHDDASAS!! You think you're in for a certain kind of story and it turns out to be so much more. It is, deep down, about the brothers, how selfish they are, how they can hurt each other more than anyone, but how they love one another above anything else, even when they want to kill each other (and fall in love with their brother's girl!!!). It's beautiful, like everything Luiza writes, and it genuinely made me cry.
. long limbs and frozen swim by @definedareasofuncertainty
I saw a discussion the other day about how whoever wrote this fic JUST GOT IT, and I have to say I completely agree with the person who made that comment. Luiza just NAILS Caroline's grief and loneliness after her mother's death, how isolating and gut-wrenching it is. Klaus being the person who finds her, who knows exactly what to say without her ever having to spell it out, the one who can truly see her, is so honest too. This fic is sensitive and absolutely beautiful. Luiza's writing is perfection and this is for sure one of my all-time favorites.
. Whisper to me, Help me remember by @lalainajanes
This story reimagines the plot with the "villains" of TO S3 in a way that proves my point that the premise of that season was good, but execution was absolute crap. All of the potential the De Martels had to be incredible antagonists was completely destroyed at the hands of the show writers - but explored to perfection by Laine's much more capable hands. Klaus is freed after 10 years in captivity to find that Caroline had been working with Tristan this whole time in order to take him down - except something is not quite right about that. While you're at it, please read all of Laine's fics! It's a delight.
. Into the Woods by @jinxedwood
I wept when I read this because it's the post-TO canon fic I didn't even know I needed. Caroline's search for a way to stop her twins' merger ends up leading her to someone who's been watching over her on the Other Side. 😭 I thought I'd always rather live in denial when it came to how TO ended, but this fic made my heart so full! Also, jinxedwood's use of fae mythology here was incredible.
. All I Need by @euvixen
This story is HOT. It taught me things about the werewolf AU universe I was not prepared to learn, but I am a much happier person after reading it. It's a canon mates AU that will leave you 🥵🥵🥵🥵 I speak as though the story was merely about the smut, but it's actually much more than that. A TVD S3 reimagine of sorts that is incredibly satisfying. That's my favorite season of TVD, but this is still even better.
. the birth and death of the day by @little-miss-sunny-daisy
Anyone who's known me for a some time knows how this fic was my entire personality for a while there. I'm obsessed with Kelly's writing, and I have this fic on a freaking pedestal. I first started reading it when it was on a six years hiatus, and I was *so* into it I didn't even bother me that it might never get updated because it was so good I was just happy I'd found it. But then my silly comments inspired Kelly to come back to it, finish it, and it has honestly been my greatest accomplishment as a part of this fandom because this is a masterpiece. It's a TVD/Supernatural crossover where Caroline is a step-sister to the Superbros. It's truly, truly epic, with beautiful writing. This could genuinely be a show. It's amazing, just read it.
. this is a harvest by @highgaarden
This, right here, is the perfect Klaroline-within-canon story. This is the story that put my revolt to rest and gave my spirit some much deserved peace where those two are concerned. This is exactly what canon should've been like. I'm not even joking, this is IT. If you'd asked me what I thought the perfect Klaroline development should be like I probably would've said something very vague because I couldn’t explain it, I’m not that great or creative a writer, but now I can just show you this story and let you bask in the amazingness of a fantastic read that will not only keep you thoroughly entertained, but will also be the answer to all the questions you didn't even know you had.
. Paradise Lost by Borzoi
When i grow up, I want to learn how to write like Borzoi. All of their fics are incredible novella-like reads. It's addictive. And this is probably my favorite (it varies though, sometimes I'm in a Parisian Deal era). What happens after Klaus and Caroline sleep together in 5x11, and how they eventually find their way back to each other. It's just one of those stories that you can't stop reading after you start. It's so rich, so deep, so perfectly IC. One of those fics to end all fics.
. The Stubborn Grace of Being Loved Regardless by @helpless-in-sleep One of the modern day classics, if you will. This fic is such a stunning, vivid and delicate picture of Caroline's mind as she was dealing with the consequences of the abuse she suffered at the hands of Damon. She's still human, but she's probably more IC than we've seen her ever on the show when it comes to this. The bond she forms with Klaus is truly incredible too, and speaks a lot of how the two of them really do have a lot in common (even with Caroline still as a human), but it's really the Caroline study part of the story that touches me. The writing is absolutely beautiful as well.
. it takes a while to settle down by theviolinist
This story is a punch to your stomach, but it is PERFECTION in 8k words. It's hot, it's bittersweet, it's SO in character and, in my head, I kinda like to pretend that this is what happened before Caroline married Stefan. lol
. Wanderlust by @bellemorte180 Anybody who was a part of fandom around the time this story was being published can tell you how much of an EVENT it was. There were discussion groups about the mystery. It was so entertaining. Erica's attention to detail and how she wove the little clues throughout the chapters made this a genuine thriller. I particularly some of the side-characters here. It's honestly another fandom staple I think everyone should read.
--
In terms of newer fics that I can rec you, I have two that are on my TBR. One of them is a WIP that I've been slowly going through, and the other one I know was recently finished.
. make them bow by @stars-and-darkness
This was recced to me by two friends recently and I started reading it a while back and thought it was incredible! I have sadly been awful with keeping up with stuff, but just based on the raving reviews and the five chapters I read, I fully believe it to be just as awesome as it seems to be. The writing was so good, and I was just in love with Klaus' voice in this story. It was so reminescent of early-days TVD Klaus, which is by far my favorite Klaus of all. Sexy and dangerous and so smooth. I loved it! Need to get back to it.
. Wolf Club by @Radioactive79
Listen, if you like kid fics, this is absolutely for you. The whole story is narrated by an eight-year-old OC, the daughter of Ray Sutton, the first werewolf Klaus kills when he's trying to start his mass-production of hybrids. She's a little wolf herself, and a while little thing who was subjected to her fair share of child trauma. Klaus has no idea what to do with her, but ends up taking her with him as continues on his journey, and ends up forging a bond with the little girl. I cannot tell you how delicious this story is. It has Klaroline, yes, but for me the little girl is the absolute star of the company. I usually hate OCs, especially children, in fics, but this one is AMAZING. Seriously. The way this story is written is glorious. I can't recommend it enough.

imagine being klaus mikaelson like. you’re the baby of the family, everyone adores you. your father adores you. all memories of that adoration will disappear and be replaced with confusion. at some point your father starts to hate you and no one can tell you why. you try to be good. you like to create things, paintings and carvings. you give these to your father and get nothing but a cold glare. he teaches you archery, hunting, fighting. you are good at none of these, but you can’t tell if it’s because you have no talent for them or if it’s due to the way your hands shake when he’s near. you’re the son of a warrior and you need to be strong. your father thinks broken bones heal back stronger. your father is never guilty, never sorry. your brother and mother try and stop him, but mostly they just focus on wrapping bandages and resetting bones. you’re not the youngest anymore, now there is someone more precious, more fragile. you envy them. but you love them more than anything under the sun, more than you thought possible. you feel wildly protective of them even though you are the only one threatened with violence. you feel like you give so much and feel so much and so little of it is genuinely returned. you feel you are on the outside of something, but can’t tell what. it never goes away. you’re proven right. your baby brother follows you out to the woods to watch men morph into animals, and like animals they tear him to shreds. the older brother is not supposed to bury the younger, something is backwards here. you are backwards. you’re gonna carry that inside of you the rest of your life. take it to your grave. and if death becomes impossible, it’s only a fitting punishment. it’s evidence of what you are and what you do. what follows is something unimaginable. you have watched your baby brother be ripped apart, and still, what comes after is inconceivable. creatures you spent your life praying for protection against, demons reflected back in the water. mother nature turning on you as skin burns off the bone. you become something they don’t have a word for and no one will look at you. you don’t want to look at yourself. once you were a child who couldn’t put down a wounded deer, now you are a monster who doesn’t know how to stop at the sound of screaming. you don’t know that in the years to come you’ll enjoy that sound, that you’ll be capable of things you thought were fundamentally against your character. and you’ll have to accept it, embrace that cruelty, because it’s the way you survive. because even though you’re disgusted with yourself at the start, once you tip over the edge, the drop is so so easy.

Revenge ask (like revenge boop) I know you have already talked about yttd AUs, so maybe you could tell something about your OC(s) too? (人 •͈ᴗ•͈)
Yasss, hell yeah I will. The problem is I don't know which one to pick... So I will probably write about them all (with some fragments that I wrote years ago).
But I will tell you first about the world my ocs live in. My universe is named The Beginning of The End (cliche but it stuck). This world is full of magic, superstitions and prejudice. But it is also beautiful in some ways. Woods filled with life, people with good intentions, spirits showing the way. Unfortunately, the story starts with death. Five of them exactly.
Let's now meet our main characters:
Golden Rose – she is a beautiful medium with crazy mind. She can see the ghosts and do favors for them. She tragically lost her parents and had to live in an orphanage. Her only friend was a kid ghost, Boo, that never takes off his ghost sheet. Rose can let the ghost possess her, but if she lets them stay too long, the connection to the ghost world starts getting bigger and bigger, letting in the evil spirits and making it harder to close the connection. A lot of people died the day she first lost control. Desperation and guilt push her to drastic measures filled with water and flowers.
Tear – a Dark Empath. He was cursed even before he was born, because his grandparents angered the wrong people. He feels the emotions of other people, but without them he is an empty shell. People from his village shunned him and all he can feel from them is hate and distrust. Empaths are common, but the evil ones are called Dark. They like to take emotions from other people to leave them empty like dolls. People think Tear is one of them so the only positive emotions directed at him are from his mother and sister that likes giving him cute accessories. If Tear ever was close to feeling any of his emotions, it was love for his family. But curiosity killed the cat. He read that people choose suicide as a way to feel. So what's a better way to check it out than trying to fly?
The Seer - not a lot is known about her. Her age, name and story is a mystery. People say she is untouchable, no man ever got to kiss or to touch her, that usually angered them. The Seer got her name because she draws and paints the future. The hands and magic guide her so she isn't really aware during the process. The Seer lives in a dark, magical forest, full of creatures. She also specializes in dark magic. It is a shame the magic she loves so much can also hurt her so fatally.
Elijah – demon spawn, a creature of hate. Contrary to the title, he was born from love. It was the people fearing everything that looked different that wanted him gone. His life was mostly peaceful, living in the forest with his "aunt" so he doesn't bring danger to his parents. Unfortunately, hunters don't know when to stop looking.
Raven – he can heal anyone with just a touch. He is a talented medic too, even if he isn't using his powers. His parents are ritch and wants him to be a doctor, but don't accept him. They still call him his daughter, even after transitioning, as they think it is just a phase. He still loves his family and would do everything for them. So he heals and heals and works hard. But everything has the price. Wound for wound, life for life. The recompensation must be the similar weight as nothing happens without a reason. Raven has a chance to see it himself one day.
Like I said, it all begins with death. But that is the real beginning of this story. Let's see one together!
How funny is it that ghosts judge less than living people? Thought the Golden Rose on her deathbed. This bed was hot water in a bathtub covered with rose petals. There were tall candles burning brightly around them and next to them were smoking incense sticks with the scent of summer flowers. It could have been a romantic sight if the girl didn't know that the water was about to turn red. Her naked body ached and shivered from the cold, even submerged in burning water. The ghost hands were holding onto her hours after tragedy. Ghosts are nicer than living people, ghosts teach me new things, Róża continued in mind. It wouldn't be that bad to become one of them. She ignored the voice in her head telling her that ghosts can be as vicious as living people. "Are you sure you want to do this?" the voice asked, waking her up from her thoughts. Next to the bathtub was a young boy standing. His face and most of his body were covered with a white sheet. He looked like a ghost from cartoons Rose watched on TV when she was little. His voice was full of sadness but also understanding. After all, he was a big part of her life with her, so he knew what she went through. If he were alive, he would shiver only thinking about it. "Yes." A blade shined beautifully in orange and red flames. A hint to what will happen next. "Okay then. It's time to say hello to the Grim Reaper."
But wow, that's how the story starts and Golden Rose is the main character! It doesn't mean she didn't die. But if they die now, it will be forever.
So maybe let's go to one of the first interactions of our main casts!
A girl with strange eyes and goat-like horns looked at them in disbelief. "Why are you so calm!? So... relaxed? Shouldn't you be at least a little scared? After all, you have lost your chance for a normal life! And you... You sit and drink tea as if nothing happened?!" The nameless girl shouted, losing control of herself. Tear felt her confusion and anger. He decided that she was one of those people who didn't like not knowing what was going on. As if her hands and eyes were tied, sitting in the dark. Poor girl. "What normal life?" asked Rose. Her voice soft and lacking the usual edge, as Lucifer had fallen asleep in her lap fifteen minutes ago and she didn't have the heart to move him. "In my normal life, I killed myself. Just like everyone else here." The medium stopped petting the cat to messily gesture at everyone present in the room before going back to petting. Lucifer purred loudly, making her smile for a second. "This whole school is a fucking graveyard of the walking dead. Aren't you one of them, dolly?" "I- of course, but-" "Plus, I've seen stranger things," The Seer interjected. She had already drank her own tea and was staring at the grounds at the bottom. She had to say the future looked interesting. "You try living in the swamps. I'll finally sleep in a regular bed and talk to someone other than my old books. After so many years of knowing each other, they have little to say."
"...And everything tells me that life with you all will not be boring."
That... went well? Our group of misfits is weird but normal is booooring!
And even misfits deserve some love and family. People that will do everything for each other, even the craziest things...
Golden Rose suddenly stopped and turned her head towards the nymph. There was a strange gleam in her eyes and her lips curved into a smile. However, it was a bit too wide and too sharp to be friendly. The make-up completed the image of a cruel jester. "Why shouldn't I kill you, hmm?" she asked in a sweet voice. Too sweet to be genuine. Suddenly her smile dropped and her face became completely blank. "You know... I've always been a fan of Shakespeare's works. Hamlet was my idol, he made pretending to be mad so easy. So I tried it myself and I have to tell you... I was great at it. But now I'm not sure if I'm still pretending." A dark laugh echoed and bounced off the stone walls. Nymph shivered with cold and fear. In the semi-darkness of the corridor, Rose's eyes glowed dangerously. The medium turned completely towards her prey and a knife in her hands looked unnaturally sharp. He hadn't been there before, but the sea girl wasn't going to ask where it came from. Despite her earlier words, she had no intention of dying today. Permanently this time. "Remember, don't play with me and what is mine. Then you won't have to worry about the Fool and his madness... Got it?" "Y-yes," tears welled up in her eyes, her shoulders were shaking. "Good girl," Rose almost purred, looking the nymph straight in the eyes. She brought the knife to her cheek gently, but still blue blood escaped down the blade. "Hmmm, if you weren't such a bitch, you'd be quite pretty. With tears on your face, blood and a look of complete devastation. I would like to destroy you. More." And suddenly the feeling of cold metal disappeared from her cheek and she took a breath, not knowing she had been holding it. The medium was nowhere in sight, but she still felt as if she was surrounded by the undead. Shaking herself, she started running towards her dorms, promising herself that she would avoid the newest group. It's full of freaks.
So that's that! I gave myself a hard job talking about all characters, but well. I love them all. I hope it was interesting to read at least!

So I just watched the clips of Viggo Mortensen on Colbert and something occurred to me that no one ever brings up when discussing the timelessness of the LOTR Trilogy: It’s not filled with A-list actors.
Like, if they remade LOTR today, you’d have Chris Pratt playing Aragorn or something. He keeps getting cast in roles he’s extremely unfit for, so, why not? And I know that those movies weren’t all unknown actors. Elijah Wood, Hugo Weaving, Sean Bean, Cate Blanchett, Ian McKellen—they’ve all had other films and works that they were known for and they were cast because they best fit the role, not to slap famous names all over the poster and marketing.
I know, “Wow, OP, LOTR is so not the only project to not cast big names for big names’ sake, like every movie ever before Shrek” yeah, I know but listen. Listen. It’s been now more than 20 years since those movies and I cannot separate Viggo Mortensen from Aragorn. He has other movies, but he’s never had a movie as big as LOTR since LOTR.
So many other actors will get their launch point from movie juggernauts (like Chris Pratt with Parks and Rec) and then keep showing up everywhere. I don’t care if Sean Bean was in Game of Thrones and Dominic Monaghan was in LOST and Sean Astin was in The Goonies and Ian McKellen and Hugo Weaving have been in X-Men and The Matrix and so many others. None of them have been in Marvel movies. Or Star Wars movies. Or anything as big as that trilogy since it came out. Heck even Orlando Bloom in the Pirates movies stopped being in those movies in 2007 (we are not counting the cameo in the garbage sequel).
It would be like if Chris Evans showed up for Captain America and Avengers, died in Avengers, and never had another famous movie again. Sure he had roles before, but entire generations would see his face and only think “That’s Captain America". I mean, he still is known for that but that's because of 12 years of that role.
So. Yeah. Maybe I’m just sick of seeing the same faces, regardless of their talent, cast in every movie that keeps coming out no matter what genre it is or how fit they are for the role or maybe it’s just that I don’t like Chris Pratt or his characters.

The Monkey (2025) review
Tumblr media
Theo James was going through it all in this one. No wonder he needed to take some time away and go for a chill drive across the British countryside in a velocity blue Range Rover Sport and wink at some llamas whilst looking like one cool son a gun.
Plot: When twin brothers find a mysterious wind-up monkey, a series of outrageous deaths tears their family apart. Twenty-five years later, the monkey begins a new killing spree, forcing the estranged siblings to confront the cursed toy.
Despite the truly spectacular marketing campaign from Neon I was left heavily underwhelmed by Osgood Perkins’ last directorial effort in the serial killer horror Longlegs. As much as I loved seeing Nicolas Cage under heavy unrecognisable makeup driving in a car screaming in a high pitch demented voices “mummy!” and “daddy!”, it had a very disjointed script and the supernatural ending was forced and took away from the suspenseful crime drama the movie was originally going for. So when the trailers began popping up for The Monkey, also directed by Mr Perky Perkins, and Neon again pushing their marketing campaign overtime with slogans like “you can enjoy death with your friends and loved ones in the comfort of your favourite movie theatre”, I wondered if I was yet again to be swindled by a mediocre movie that just happens to have a big advertisement budget, or if we really had something special on our hands.
My fears and concerns were all diminished from the very opening scene when a surprise appearance from Adam Scott set the tone, which revealed one key aspect of The Monkey - this is not a horror, it is a comedy. This movie dares to imagine Final Destination if instead of a looming intangible spectre of death it had a dumb little monkey. It’s an extremely, deeply, unfathomably stupid movie, and I mean that as a compliment. Whilst Longlegs suffered a true identity crisis, this movie embraces the camp and humour of a movie about a killer monkey by making the entire thing absurdly over the top. Characters don’t act like real people. The kills are gruesome, random and pointless. The story is quirky, inconsistent and nonsensical. Yet it all blends perfectly into a fun night at the movies, with plenty of litres of Heinz ketchup squirted all over the place. Like what else do you expect from this? It’s a movie about an evil monkey killing people off in various gruesome ways. It’s ridiculous however if you like monkeys or gory deaths then this offers exactly what’s shown in the cereal box.
The movie has a surprisingly stacked cast with a good amount of comedic talent. Theo James does double duty as twin brothers, managing to deliver lines “we gotta make like eggs and scramble” with a straight face. Tatiana Maslany AKA She-Hulk is less green but seems to be having way more fun here than in her own Marvel show. Adam Scott has a brief but memorable firefighter moment, and Elijah Wood has a scene stealing cameo appearance that had me in stitches. Again what works is that the whole cast seems really game to jump to the same level of absurdity this movie is going for. Honestly this isn’t going to win any awards, but it’s a goofy and gory time, and the only thing that was missing was the monkey doing some cocaine.
Overall score: 6/10

I will ask you questions! :)
why do you have 12 hours of time to kill? do you have an event or something?
what kind of dog is in you pfp? what is its name?
if you could have any dream career, regardless of money, situation, or talent, what would it be and why?
what is your favorite movie and why?
what is your Hogwarts house?
who is your godly parent?
if you could get front-row seats at any performance, what kind would it be and who would be preforming?
thanks for asking me a bunch of questions earlier too when I was bored! :) it was a lot of fun
I have a job that is mostly waiting around for things, and I work 12 hour shifts.
That would be my wife's dog named Toast. She is a mix, and I don't recall what she is a mix of off the top of my head (I am quite terrible at remembering dog breeds)
I would run a used book store. I love buying, reading, sorting, and discussing books.
I don't think I technically have a favorite movie, but my favorite thing to watch is a miniseries that is about 110 minutes long, so about movie length. It's called Over The Garden Wall. If you haven't seen it, I think you would really enjoy it. Two brothers are lost in a mystical forest. It draws inspiration from fairy tales, American folklore, and Dante's inferno. It's got some of the best storytelling in a kids show I have ever seen. It also has some amazing voice actors, including Elijah Wood as a main character. It's on Hulu right now, and I have seen it 11 times this year because I keep showing it to new people.
Slytherin.
Hades, apparently. Not gonna lie, I was hoping for Dionysus.
Hadestown with the original cast. This was fun, and my ask is always open to pretty much anyone

let’s talk about LOTR book vs. movie differences.
Overall, I prefer the book over the movies. The book just has even more depth, even more great character moments, and of course, all the lore (particularly the appendices) that could never be squeezed into a film, even a film trilogy.
The movies were perfectly cast - every actor was born to play their respective role - with magnificent direction, music, cinematography, and SFX. But the script has many problems when compared to the book.
These are, IMO, the worst changes that the films made (in no particular order):
Far too much emphasis on action/battle scenes. Helm’s Deep is 1 chapter long in the book but the equivalent of at least 5 chapters long in the movie. Ridiculous. LOTR has action scenes, but it is not an action story.
Frodo sending Sam away and going into Shelob’s lair without him. Everything about this added scene is an absolute atrocity. Enough said.
The entire butchering of Faramir. It’s really quite tragic. For the sake of drama, the films stripped Faramir of everything that makes him the incredible character that he is in the book.
Deleting the Scouring of the Shire. I get why (pacing), but it’s the true climax to the hobbits’ storyline and character arcs, and is just a better ending IMO.
Not including any of Frodo’s moments of impressive strength from the book (saving his friends from the Barrow-wight, fighting back against the Nazgûl at Weathertop, defying the Nazgûl at the ford, saving Boromir from a troll in Moria, and choosing all by himself to go to Mordor alone). He has so many bad*ss moments in the book that Elijah Wood would’ve nailed, but the movies made him too helpless and didn’t give a true talent like Elijah nearly as much to work with. (Elijah himself, though, is absolute perfection in the role, and it pains me to think how many great moments from the book he was robbed of.)
Cutting Tolkien’s beautiful songs, especially the “Man in the Moon” from the Prancing Pony. Why couldn’t the film have been part-musical???
Gandalf’s fall looks like he just…lets go. For some reason. In the book, the Balrog’s whip drags him down immediately, but onscreen he grabs onto the cliff and then lets go himself. Makes no sense.
All the stupid hamfisted foreshadowing of Boromir’s attempted theft of the Ring. The script bashes it over our heads, especially in Galadriel’s scene, and I have no idea why any of this was added. Why not just show Boromir glancing at Frodo and the Ring several times, like the book describes? That’s all that was needed.
Making so many jokes at Gimli’s expense because of his height and reducing him to mere comic relief. In the book his character is treated with dignity and has such depth.
Reducing Faramir and Éowyn’s phenomenal love story to a single 30-second scene. Screw pacing, those two deserved a full half hour (at the very least) of screentime dedicated to just them.
The butchering of Tolkien’s point about the Ring’s power by making Isildur’s failure seem like a personal flaw, to the point where it’s the reason Aragorn doesn’t want to be king. A refusal to destroy the Ring isn’t about the Ring-bearer’s own internal character; it’s about how the Ring’s power is absolute and no mortal has a chance of directly destroying it. Elrond, Gandalf, Aragorn, et. al. are fully aware of this in Tolkien’s canon. This change makes it seem like there’s something wrong with Isildur and Frodo specifically for not destroying the Ring.
Cutting the pivotal moment of Sam’s entire character arc where he takes the Ring from Frodo’s body, decides to try to continue the Quest alone, and then wears the Ring to hide from the Orcs. The movies just cut all of this critical content just for the sake of a surprise reveal of “omg Sam’s got the Ring!”
Deleting the CRUCIAL scene where Frodo curses Gollum outside the Cracks of Doom. The whole point of Gollum’s fall is that it’s not caused by a physical struggle between him and Frodo (as the movie portrays), but rather by his own actions, breaking his oath to Frodo and ignoring the warning within Frodo’s curse. The movie instead makes it into the climax of a typical action film.
Apparently this doesn’t bother most fans, but it most certainly bothers me: reducing Rosie to distant eye candy for Sam who he’s never talked to. In the book their relationship is so much more substantial because they grew up together and know each other inside & out and Sam’s love for her actually feels real. In the movies, the relationship just feels so shallow.
Referring to Frodo’s ride to Valinor as “the last ship to leave Middle-Earth.” A flat-out lie when you know Tolkien’s canon, completely ignoring the fact that Sam will be allowed to sail West eventually and they will reunite. They don’t even include Frodo’s line “your time may come, Sam.”
Sam, Rosie, and their children apparently not living in Bag End at the end. One of the book’s most beautiful developments is that after years of being too big for bachelors, Frodo’s generous parting gift to Sam finally enables Bag End to be a family home. It shocks me that the trilogy ends on a closeup of a random yellow hobbit-hole door instead of Bag End’s iconic green door.
On the other hand, there are a few book-to-film changes that I really like:
Arwen helping Frodo at the Ford instead of Glorfindel. I just love the idea of giving Arwen something important to do in the actual narrative, besides just being Aragorn’s wife. At the same time, as I said, I feel like the way the film did it made Frodo too helpless. My ideal version would be a mix of the two: Arwen meets the travellers in Glorfindel’s place but then sends Frodo off on her horse by himself, like Glorfindel does.
Boromir training and playing with Merry & Pippin.
Boromir carrying Frodo out of Moria.
“Give them a moment, for pity’s sake!”
Boromir saying “they took the little ones” instead of “they took the halflings.”
My favorite of all of the screenwriters’ additions that aren’t in the book is the immortal “Roast chicken” exchange.
Giving Théoden a sadder, more realistic reaction to his only child’s death.
Just giving Éowyn more screen time and showing why she falls in love with Aragorn. In the book, she only talks to him a few times and her love for him feels quite rushed; one of the book’s few flaws, in my mind.
Pippin being the one to directly save Faramir by jumping onto the pyre and rolling him off of it to safety.
Denethor realizing too late that Faramir is alive; a heartbreaking moment.
Théoden getting to see that Éowyn is the one who saved him and say a proper goodbye to her. It’s so unsatisfying in the book how he never knows she was there; I much prefer how Éowyn in the movie gets that moment of closure with her beloved uncle.
“I can carry you!” is the scene with the greatest page-to-screen adaptation, hands down. Everything from the acting to the gut-wrenching addition of “do you remember the Shire?” to the music is flawless. Makes me choke up every single time without fail.
The Ring lingering on the lava’s surface, trying to survive, and only melting when Frodo chooses Sam over it. Absolutely phenomenal.
Frodo saying “I’m glad to be with you” to Sam on Mt. Doom instead of “I’m glad you’re with me.”
“You bow to no one.”
Expanding the timeline of Frodo’s last months in the Shire after their return from 2 years to 4 years. I love Jackson for gifting Frodo more time in the Shire before his departure than Tolkien gave him.
I’d love to hear other people’s thoughts about their favorite and least favorite book-to-film changes!

Extremely weird of Paramount to send out a press release trumpeting how Yellowjackets Season 3 was the most watched season ever on Paramount+, but also not renew it yet for Season 4?
I assume this is a marketing thing to get the show past whatever arbitrary threshold they need to justify a Season 4 renewal. Or alternately, maybe they're still working out budget/one or two season renewal/number of episodes/etc? Regardless: weird.
Anyway here's the release:
********
Yellowjackets Sets Record with Most Watched Season in Series History on Paramount+ with Showtime
Finale Scores 3 Million Global Cross-Platform Viewers Up +19% Vs. Season Two
Social Engagement Buzzes Past Season Two by +186%
Tumblr media
April 24, 2025 – “Yellowjackets is a fiercely original, genre-bending phenomenon – an electrifying blend of psychological horror, survival thriller and coming-of-age drama from the brilliant minds of Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson and brought to life by our stellar cast," said Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount Global and President of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios. “Season three drove record numbers and was key to maintaining Paramount+’s ranking as a top three SVOD for original series’ minutes, proving the power of our differentiated strategy with fewer, bigger, breakthrough series.”
Key highlights:
Total viewership for the entire season is up +3% compared to season two.
Season three marks the most-watched season ever, with the finale becoming the most-streamed Yellowjackets episode ever.
The series is now the number two most-streamed global Showtime® original ever (only behind Dexter®: Original Sin).
The season three finale delivered 3 million global viewers over seven days on Paramount+ with Showtime, up +19% compared to last season’s finale and up + 54% compared to the season two finale on streaming alone.
On social, season three stands as the most viewed and most engaged season ever for the series, with 10 million engagements, up +186% compared to season two, and with 115 million total views, up +114% compared to season two.
Created by Lyle and Nickerson, Yellowjackets is the saga of a team of wildly talented high school girls' soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness.
Equal parts survival, epic psychological horror and coming-of-age drama, the series chronicles their descent from a complicated yet thriving team to savage clans – while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later. It proves that the past is never really the past and what began in the wilderness is far from over.
In season three, as summer arrives, the Yellowjackets face a fragile victory – the brutal winter that nearly claimed them is finally behind them, but distrust in leadership and tension within the team jeopardize their chances of being rescued. In the present, long-buried secrets from their pasts begin to surface. As the women fight to keep their lives from unraveling, they must confront a chilling question: who are they really, and what dark truths are they hiding from each other and themselves?
In the finale, things turn frigid as bloody new alliances are formed and spilled. Lottie’s hit the floor, Misty finally gets some answers, Tai wants to leave nothing to chance, Natalie tries living on the edge and Shauna confronts the loneliness of real sacrifice. It’s our time, right now, down here in the new Queen’s court. Eat up, drink deep and descend.
Yellowjackets stars Emmy nominee and Critics Choice Award winner Melanie Lynskey, Emmy® nominee Christina Ricci, Tawny Cypress, Emmy nominee Lauren Ambrose, Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Samantha Hanratty, Courtney Eaton, Liv Hewson, Steven Krueger, Warren Kole, Kevin Alves, Sarah Desjardins and Simone Kessell, with Elijah Wood in a recurring role. Two-time Academy Award®-winning actress Hilary Swank guest stars this season along with Joel McHale and Ashley Sutton.
Yellowjackets is executive produced by Lyle, Nickerson and fellow showrunner Jonathan Lisco.
