'There are other ways to strike other than striking' is such a WEIRD message, I cannot get past this.
#i think the problem is palestinian activists keep calling for a strike (a withholding labour strike) but activists in the west are aware#this is a non-starter and cannot realistically happen widely enough- in a way i kind of respect that they are thinking past this#but honestly can striking EVER achieve goals without it being based in a specific workplace/group of workplaces in a group context?#sidenote i actually remember some leftists on here talking about how a US-wide strike would be able to stop trump going into office#but they were already dismissing it as impossible...a little defeatist but realistic#i feel like witholding labour for better pay or conditions from your workplace makes sense in the way that#witholding labour to call for a ceasefire in another country does not#but as realistically most people can't do it i genuinely think its really fucked up that people are being encouraged to just post instead#at least write to your MP or call your representative! For fucks sake#i know people on here have been saying participating in local or national government is pointless and bad for ages#but do it anyway because posting on tumblr is considerably more pointless
