I was gonna leave mine in the tags, but I think this deserves to be seen.

I was working at a mcdonald's in a busy area; right off the freeway, walking distance from at least 3 apartment complexes, and directly across the street from both a middle and high school. We got busy, and I worked the 4am-12pm shift, usually the payout window for the drivethru.

This lady shows up in my drivethru at like 11. She's one of those white ladies where just looking at them you know they're a raging bitch. I have cried because of customers mistreating me before, and I'm not ashamed to admit that. It's the primary reason I vow to never work food service again. People get mean when they're hungry.

It's not busy. We just finished our morning commute rush, so I take my time counting her change. Because I know I make mistakes. I was depressed, sleep deprived, and barely functioning. I'd been up since 3am.

She accuses me of shortchanging her because "you little latinas always shortchange me." I may be ambiguously brown, but I am very much not Latina. In fact, I think a lot of the Latinas that I went to middle school with hated me because they would get lumped into my unique bullshit.

So, this lady tears off. I mean, she peeled out of that drive thru so fast I was worried she was gonna hit somebody. She didn't even grab the food she paid for. She just Yote. Me and my coworker, who's at the pickup window, both stick our heads out into the empty drive thru to watch this lady speed off and we just look at each other like, "wtf just happened?"

I tap my headset to communicate with the rest of staff like, "she didn't even racism at me right, I'm Alaskan Native." And we all had a good laugh about it bc, like, Holy Shit, lady. Calm down, accidentally missing 10 cents isn't going to end the fucking universe.

Be extra nice to your drive thru workers. They get some Wild interactions. They are NOT paid enough to deal with that shit. I was NOT paid enough.
