I will say one last thing about the Gojo situation, because I saw a few people get angry at Gege for "baiting" and then not delivering. The reason why people seem to think Gege was doing this is because of a) the foreshadowing and b) some JJK promotional materials including Gojo.
Was it really baiting though? What "signs" and "foreshadowing" were there? A clock reading 2:21 which people misinterpreted to be connected to the chapter of Gojo's unsealing? Please think about it. Do you really believe he planned that, or is it more likely it was just a random time he selected for the clock and we just collectively read too much into it? Remember that authors aren't all-knowing creatures who write every single word deliberately, they are humans who sometimes go "I'll draw a clock!" And give it no further thought.
Some people might say "what about Gojo not getting any mentions or even a funeral!" That's incredibly sad, but if we think about it, did any other character receive a more special treatment? It's not like Choso was mentioned or had a grave either, but we aren't acting outraged that Gege baited us into thinking he was coming back. Again, it's really sad that we haven't been getting more focus on the characters' emotions but I also kind of understand why. After a scarring battle like this, it would take Gege at least 10 chapters to dive into the characters' mental health, and the recovery process for everyone involved would take at least a few months. If Gege were to try and do all that, it would likely get cut by the editors because this is Shonen Jump, a magazine with a target demographic of teenage boys who would most likely be uninterested in this type of development. So yeah, I think we also have to consider where the story gets published and who the target audience is when we think about why some things are not included, even though the author might want to.
Lastly, about the promotional materials, this isn’t even Gege's fault to begin with. Management and the marketing team are the ones who take care of this type of thing so I don't know why we are even thinking Gege had anything to do with it. Gege has also never struck me as the type who would want everyone to read his manga because of a misunderstanding. He has always been true to the kind of story he wants to write, and with his feelings about Gojo's character particularly, I really don't think he'd want us to keep reading just because we are hoping for a Gojo comeback that isn't going to happen.
This got a little longer than I meant for it to be ☠️ so tl;dr I don't think Gege baited us or anything, I think everyone just read too much into things that were supposed to mean nothing and the promotional materials aren't picked by Gege to begin with so he has nothing to do with that

AHJSJSJS TUMBLRS A BITCH BUT YOU DONT NEED TO APOLOGIZE ITS NOT YOUR FAULT i was also getting some things done i just took a quick break and saw Jeirin’s post LMAO (epic crossover fr HAHA) so i didn’t have the time to notice but also even if i did id probably assume you were just touching grass (which you were LMAOOO)
L is now trademarked by otoya yup he doesn’t have any Ls in his name so he had to make up for it elsewhere (haha Lswhere I’ll shut up now)
SUHSJSSH WAIT OK GOOD I wasn’t sure if it was a shitty kid bully teasing or like a cute friend teasing it’s good that it wasn’t bullying though because if anything it is a rather cute nickname I just didn’t know if you had trauma from it SHSHSHSH
Ah 2022 jjk era….yk back then I definitely would’ve been like “NOOO DONT END SOON” now I’m like “yeah fucking finally” it had its good run back then now it’s fr just kinda insane also it’s actually so sad that at some point I ended up just full on saving the TikTok’s I knew I needed to reference back to later on just in case they disappeared forever SHSBSNS I have so many random
tutorials saved on there too like I’m not losing this hack
- Karasu anon
HAHA sometimes i do see your asks but i’m like “i know i’m going to write a super lengthy response to this so let me save it for later” LMAOAOA like i know for a fact i’m going to ramble and have to whip out my ipad for it meanwhile i can post my silly two sentence thoughts and responses to comments in five seconds on my phone so i’ll be active just not answering-asks-active if that makes sense HAHAH but yeah idk why tumblr does that with longer asks especially it just freaks out 😭 maybe one day they will resolve it…
LSWHERE PLS no yeah it’s his letter honestly he’s lowkey chill i think he would find it funny that we slander him sm…idk how to describe it i just have this hunch that if he knew he’d think it’s his rizz at work or smth
yeahhh i never got mad i thought it was so cute as a nickname!! pls i was too mean to be bullied…i was rlly shy as a little kid so i got bullied when i was like really young?? not like making fun of me bullied but forced to do stuff by my “friends” because i didn’t want to hurt their feelings by saying no 😭 but i got new friends and ended up moving for middle school anyways!! and at that point i had developed the most villainous mouth ever i was actually lowkey evil with some of my quips BUT only to people who deserved it so like it cancelled out 😩 mostly everyone liked me so it was def meant as an endearment thing like aww cutie pie mouse mira hehe especially because that was back when the guys were just starting to hit their growth spurts and they loved to do anything to show off that they were now 5’7 instead of 5’3 so they’d pat me on the head after singing the little song LMAOAOOA icl looking back it’s lowkey unreal but then again what in the mira lore isn’t
REALLLL 2022 jjk era was so diff i also thought back then that the manga would go on for much longer so it was a diff vibe?? tbh i still can’t believe it already ended tbh i feel like it had such a short runtime for a manga…like attack on titan i know ran from before 2013 (because that’s when s1 of the anime came out so it would’ve had to have been before) and the manga ended in 2021 and that’s not to mention the ones like one piece that have been going on FOREVER ofc idt jjk should’ve gone on for quite that long but it def could’ve done with some extra time i think 😩 did you see that gege straight up released a new character LKSDJFH like what even
no that’s so real half of my saved tik toks are edits and the other half are makeup tutorials…ngl i never use them though because the only makeup i can ever do is a tiny bit of pencil liner, mascara, blush, OCCASIONALLY highlight if it’s smth super important/a special event, and some color on my lips!! so like all of the foundation/contour hacks are very useless for me and same with the eyeshadow tutorials but that doesn’t stop me from watching and saving HAHAH

I said the story is "not for you". not that it's inherently good... I don't think JJK is inherently good, I've criticised it repeatedly. Just you know, criticied it for issues that couldn't've been solved by simply paying attention to the story. but sure, hyperbolise what i said and argue against that, whatever entertains you.
your response feels like you’re taking this as a personal attack
ah yes, the classic "you're taking it personally" to devalue my points up front. le sigh, whatever entertains you.
In regards to what I meant about the villains in the shibuya arc I meant they seemed to get really powerful all of a sudden going from not being able to defeat 1st and 2nd year sorcerers a few episodes prior to being able to kill grade 1 sorcerers with years of experience. I don’t really get how you interrupted that as me not understanding why they were there
which villains? who hadn't they been able defeat that they suddenly could in Shibuya? please, do you have a single concrete point? i already pointed out to you that you were wrong about Jougo's fate. so I'm asking, who exactly are you talking about? Which situations? because you're saying very generic things that i honestly can't place in the story.
You make this really strange assumption that I didn’t understand the villains plan despite the fact that nothing in my original post indicated that.
i literally quoted the sentence i didn't understand. and said that it's my interpretation of that sentence. i didn't think it would upset you so much that someone failed to understand your sentence. I'm sorry.
but my point is that they were heavily marked as a trio and being really close when they’re not
huh? when were they marked? by whom, the marketing department of Weekly Shounen Jump and Mappa? I'm sorry corporate marketing lied to you, it's not the story's fault. I'm sorry they do not follow some trio rules or expectations you seem to have. I never had those so I was never disappointed. I actually came to the story not having some presuppositions of what there will be in it. I'm sorry you were disappointed that the story wasn't what you imagined it would be but that's not the story's fault.
Because that's the things with stories, they are not all the same, even if they use some trope, archetype or whatever they are not actually obliged to present it in some strictly defined way. Subverting expectations is one of the ways one can tell a story, so is subverting tropes and diverging from archetypes.
Also Nobara and Yuuji get really close over the course of the literal few months that they know each other...
The magic system is not complex just poorly written we’re only given information about it right before a fight scene in you guessed it exposition dumps, the information isn’t provided in an organic or interesting way.
power system infodumps are kinda a staple of battle shounen. you may not find the ones Gege writes entertaining and that's okay. but you were not really paying attention to them. because if you had, i think you'd be less confused about the outcomes of battles.
The world feels incredibly underdeveloped and small.
to you, it's not a universal feeling.
And again my problem with the powerscaling is that it is very inconsistent regardless of whether that’s the point.
The power system is very consistent in the parts covered by the anime, there are some questionable moments much later on. You just simply don't know the rules, but not because they weren't provided to you, you just didn't pay attention. Probably because you don't vibe with Gege's writing. That's not a universal problem people have. That's why I said repeatedly that JJK just isn't for you.
Powerscalling is an attempt to create some ranking of power among characters. Which with a system like jujutsu is pointless. Not because it's not thought through well, it's because it was not designed with powerscalling in mind.
Strength is a whole fucking theme in JJK, and yes, a part of it as a cult of strength.
Characters go from being incredibly powerful and strong to getting their asses kicked next episode and vice versa without any plot or character reasons.
Which characters? Which episodes? Please, anything concrete. I have no clue which character and which episodes you are talking about...
We’re told Gojo is so powerful he could probably defeat sukuna in episode 1 so why wasn’t he trying to track and defeat the villains inbetween arcs.
Because no one can force him to? Which was made obvious early on in the story? Because he's lazy and selfish? Which has been pointed out directly by other characters? Because he's reckless, which has also been shown several times? Because that's the whole point of him.
Also the person who says that Gojou could defeat Sukuna is... Gojou. Not some omniscient narrator, Gojou is making that claim about himself.
All things you did not pay attention to.
Sukuna is presented as this big bad but we know very little about him outside of an exposition dump in season 1.
I think there's just one "exposition dump" about Sukuna in season 1, when Gojou takes Yuuji for his admission interview with the headteacher Yaga. Gojou and Fake Getou (I hate calling them that, it's disrespectful ;-; ) mention Sukuna a few times too, but those are singular sentences. The most we learn about Sukuna in season one is from Sukuna himself:
When he first awakens in Yuuji
In the detention centre, when he refuses to help, then when Yuuji switches with him anyway, when he fight with Megumi
In his inner domain when he makes a binding vow with Yuuji
When he refuses to help Junpei, then when Mahito enters his domain
You're factually wrong about how information about Sukuna was presented in the story, because, and I can't stress this enough, you don't know much about the story apart from it not really vibing with your personal tastes.
And yes, all this doesn't give us super much information about Sukuna, but there is some quite interesting stuff there already. And Shibuya makes it all the more interesting because it sheds light on Sukuna's relationship to the main villain of JJK.
Controversial opinion the JJK anime is not good.
The hard magic system is incredibly poorly written and really sloppy, we don’t learn anything about jujutsu sorcery until right before a fight making it feel like the rules are made up as gege goes along making everything feel inconsequential and pointless since there’s no actual reason for characters choices besides gege deciding that’s what he wants them to do.
The relationships between characters are so poorly written that it’s hard to care about what happens to the characters and whether they live or die when the characters in canon don’t even care. Nobara Yuji and Megumi were pushed and marketed as a trio despite the fact there’s actually very little screen time with all 3 of them and Megumi and Nobara barely even interact one on one.
The show relies way too heavily on fight scenes and there’s very little plot or character development outside of them. So many characters feel like they are defined by their strength or abilities as a sorcerer with very little development for them as actual people
The power scaling also feels pretty werid for me sukuana is supposed to be this extremely powerful demon yet so far in the anime he doesn’t really feel like a threat. Like when Goni fought Jogo he seemed WAY MORE POWERFUL THEN HIM. While when Jogo fought Sukuana he managed to survive. I also feel like a lot of the characters would go from super strong in one episode to kinda weak in the next and I felt like the bad guys majorly powered by with no explanation in the Shibuya arc
JJK might the only anime ever to suffer from lack of filler the characters don’t feel like real people but more like archetypes, I don’t care about any of the relationships between characters whether romantic or platonic and I feel so many of the interesting elements of the story are underdeveloped. The shows only strong suits are good fight scenes and hot anime boys

Sorry not to be that person but as someone who’s really interested in Tojis character there is a huge difference between k wording yourself in front of your child because why not vs. Im doing this because im glad. Toji’s words are super important and misinterpreted, when he says the words “Good for you” is like a relief his child wasn’t sold off to the family that abused him all because he didn’t have a curse technique. Any man in the zenin clan is bound to be a huge asshole and I personally wouldn’t want that at all. His words “this place is useless for someone like me” just goes to show how he knows damn well he can’t be a father even if he tried. Tojis an apologized character not because of his looks but because of his past trauma. Obviously it doesn’t make him a better person but his writing is good and Gege played his character out well to show how Maki and him are like parallels. Toji did care about Megumi but to an extent Megumis mom was a big play out on how much she really changed that man. Also Megumi still doesn’t know who his dad even is BUT HATE HIM ALL U WANT BECUZZZ he is a villain after all
NO I GET WHY HE DID IT, I’m just saying like the action itself was still a cruel thing to do.
I don’t like toji because I think he’s a bit overhyped but I will recognise a greatly written character and I do acknowledge he’s well written and he’s in my top 5 well written characters.
And I don’t hate him bc he’s a villan😭 almost all my fave characters are villans so that’ll be hypocritical, I just don’t see the hype around his looks im not into hella muscually men like him so I don’t see the appeal
I just used him as an example because essentially everything happening in jjk was his fault from the moment he met gojo and geto. He’s a huge plot point to the story and he is a villan but nobody cares that he is one, but they care about mahito and his actions and hate anyone that likes him
I just hate the huge double standard because villans are villans. Mahito isn’t any better than sukuna or toji or any of the other villans in the show but people always refuse to see mahitos writing and his point in the plot and just go straight to hating him bc he killed ur faves
Idc if people hate mahito, I know WHY people hate him and I understand that. I just hate how different he is treated compared other villans simply bc of his looks

I love jjk but for some reason i feel like I'm not getting a lot of character development?? Like, I feel like I don't know much about the characters nor their motives or drives and like I really want to so I read the Manga but I'm still frigging lost
In terms of manga to anime translation I won’t deny its one of the higher quality ones. Mappa does a really good job of getting a majority of it into the anime but you can’t get everything (a lot of small panels, side comments, varying expressions, just the small stuff can’t ALL be included and that’s not Mappa’s fault at all)
But I will admit as many times as I’ve gone back and reread things, Gege has really pushed a fast paced series. The world building isn’t there like in other stories. We know of all this stuff (like curses, techniques, the clans etc) but we don’t know the nitty gritty. Which, if you’re a nerd who likes in depth analysis like myself, it’s frustrating (it’s honestly one of the reasons I don’t have an OC yet simply bc I feel like I don’t know enough to make a good integrated character)
There’s a big character pool but not like, huge? It’s some where in the middle and I’ve seen a lot of forums compare it to Bleach. Which now that I think about it pacing I can totally see it. There’s a lot of action but not a lot of substance yet. Things happen but they don’t feel important or give a wider view to the big picture. If that’s intentional or not I’m not sure it’s hard to tell with creators bc Gege might have this 100% figured out and pacing it like this. Or they might still be developing it as it goes. We don’t really know.
I don’t think that’s an uncommon feeling rn for a lot of people. This arc is really the first arc me might get to have lore to the current state of things instead of just a past arc with some meat for Gojo’s character only. Fingers crossed we probably have a new focus on cast but Gege finally decides to let us understand how things are run more intimately in the jjk universe
