Choji would be soooo salty that he never got to go to a Dead show, because he doesn't think their studio albums hold a candle to their live performances. That said, he would adore the Grateful Dead, without long and experimental their songs are (there's something to appreciate about not having to flip the record for an hour, instead of forty minutes).

Kiba

Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys

Deadass, he would think Pet Sounds is a much better album than Sgt. Pepper, and there is no way to convince him otherwise. Kiba would want to be a Wilson brother.

Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme by Simon & Garfunkel

Ugh, so relaxing, so dreamy, and so easy to sing along. Shino would so love this album, because it would relax him in a way that only Si & Garf could.

Sai would love the shredding vocals and how full the music is, even the sad songs - the lyrics from multiple songs off this album would speak to him on multiple levels.

Deliver by The Mamas and The Papas

Melancholic but gentle, while still delivering strong, hopeful messages? Yeah, pen Neji down rn.

Love Grows & Other Gems by Edison Lighthouse

Screaming and crying over this - Lee would be so taken by the love songs, and he'd be whistling the darling melodies all the time. Even the ballads, Lee would be singing so beautifully.

Thirty Three & 1/3 by George Harrison

Would love the jazz, love the symbolism, love George Harrison. Kankuro would find this album chock-full of bangers. Not one of these tunes would be skipped, not until Kankuro has experienced it (he also will turn back the needle if he felt he wasn't appreciating a song properly).

The Stranger (Legacy Edition) by Billy Joel

Needs to be the Legacy Edition, because Gaara fucks with the B-side heaviest (y'all need to indulge rn). He literally cries to Billy Joel's voice, and loves to forget about things while he listens to this album.

Happy cries to this album over memories that aren't even his. He wouldn't be able to stop himself from singing along, especially to Puff and Tiny Sparrow.

He would go an see the live show - and he would think that Tommy was a real person (before he sits down to chew on the possibility of a deaf, dumb, and blind kid being a pinball champion). Gai would still find the spirit of Tommy to be an inspiration and a testament to the power of youth.

Fav. life series: Definitely Double Life- I'm a Grian main, and usually with life series I also watch Scar, Pearl, Scott, Joel, and now Gem. But I absolutely ADORE literally every pair in that series. I mean, the divorce quartet, Desert Duo, The Ranchers, Boat Boys, SO MUCH ICONIC STUFF HAPPENED THERE AND I LOVE IT SO MUCH.

When did you start watching Hermitcraft? I started watching it at the beginning of season six, watching Grian!! Hermitcraft was the first ever minecraft stuff I ever watched on YT acutally- and I've watched the life series since the very beginning as well.

EPIC the musical? RAHHHH I WILL LISTEN TO IT I PROMISE AKFNEANUIJ. My friends keep begging me and I WILL I just haven't had the time yet- I'm a major Greek mytholgy nerd tho so I will probably like it lol

Fav. animal? WOLFIESSSSSS or FOXIESSSSS!!! Wolves because they're just silly lil guys like foxes but they also represent my personality a lot- and I'm not talking lone wolf. I'm talking about the way wolves actually act. How wolves are pack animals, and need to be looked after but also care for their packs so so much, and have lifelong partners. How wolves are incredibly intelligent and are protective of the ones they love, and how they feel lost when they're alone. It is not a wolf's natural state to be alone.

I'm from the south, and I haven't listened to country music in so long because none of it feels authentic to my experience or beliefs. I listened to Tyler Childers for the first time today. I loved it. It makes me so nostalgic for the music I grew up listening to. Do you have any recommendations for more songs/artists with this type of music?

Black Opry Revue is a collective of Black country and country adjacent artists that tours, offers artist residencies for Black artists, and generally does fantastic work promoting Black performers in a really white dominated industry. i've seen a set of theirs live and can't recommend them enough !! they are a great place to start for finding artists that fall outside the country mainstream :)

i would say that tyler and zach bryan are two of the biggest stars of the country/appalachian revival rn and both deserve the praise they get

a tyler gem i would recommend is follow you to virgie live at red barn (really that whole album, there are no skips on it)

zach bryan's live version of revival on his all my homies hate ticket master red rocks recording never fails to make me want to go to a concert posthaste

orville peck is pretty big on tumblr and is a more country-western sound if you like that better! he has some incredible good music that handles topics like bisexuality and relationship violence with a lot of nuance and grace (he also has plenty of fun ones, but i like that he's not afraid to handle difficult topics too)

hexie mountains is one of my favorites by him because it deals with complications around home and distance in ways i love

ok now for some people who aren't as big on here but deserve all our love <3

adia victoria is FANTASTIC and has some really incredible music with a little bit of a darker, more gothic sound

stuck in the south is the obvious place to start

in the pines is also amazing and follows in the sacred country tradition of talking about the grittier sides of the south and trying to understand where you fit into all of that

valerie june is also a little bit less straight-country but she's doing some really cool stuff and she never fails to make me pull out my most exaggerated twang. her voice is amazing

Innamoramento. I stand by this however the second one on this list is such a close contender. but come on, let's keep it real. this IS and will FOREVER be one of the greatest concept albums of all time, it has some of her best videos, the era was simply iconic and everything from the music to the look to the performances are sheer transcendent perfection.

2. Anamorphosée. What can I say, Paloma has shown me the light. Incredibly complex and very interesting, it stands out in her discography for all the right reasons to me... she literally saved Laurent from his flop era after Giorgino

3. L'Emprise. I don't listen to this half as much as my mutuals and IDK why💔😔💔 but it is her best since AQL'O like I can't lie

4. Cendres De Lune. Sorry but you can't beat the sheer energy and force of innovation this album brought to the second half of the 80s. Her and Laurent literally changed French pop FOREVER.

5 + 6. Avant que l'ombre... / Point de suture TIE I couldn't do it💔💔

7. Ainsi Soit Je. This + the next one really hurt me because they have two of her best songs of all time on them but I just don't find the rest of them memorable (especially nr 7 on this list) and as for ASJ, I prefer the remixes from Dance Remixes of most of the songs. Sans Contrefaçon drags this way up and also just love how fucking bizarre it is. it's playful it's raunchy at times but it's also dark and gothic. The Farmer's Conclusion is just her taking the piss and I love it

8. L'Autre. Désenchantée, Je t'aime mélancolie, Regrets, and Beyond My Control CARRY this album. Also I prefer the extended version of Regrets and I prefer the New Beat version of Psychiatric. I did love how they insisted on keeping her weird goth thing going, they really leaned into it on ASJ and L'A but beyond that ... 😔

9. Monkey Me. I love this album idk what to tell you lmfao I think it's her best from the 10s🙊

10. Bleu noir. She brought us some of the slayest singles of her career like helloooo... this album gets too much hate, I think it's very good and to me it is such a comfort album🥺 the tracklist is very inconsistent to me and the album aesthetic is not my favorite.

11. Interstellaires. This was hard bc I love this album and it has some GEMS, Stolen Car is one of her top 5 duets and the title track is just >>>. To me this is her best adult contemporary album, no debate.

12. Désobéissance. Girl this is her worst album by far... it's so commercial and so basic, not at all Mylène to me. The tracklist is a mess, the aesthetic does NOT match the sound... I wish she would've stayed in the Interstellaires realm so badly😔💔

I was a casual listener to BTS since like ~2017-ish, but my tipping point was Epiphany and Magic Shop 😂 For similar reasons, I found comfort in their lyricism too!

Personally, I don't think people have to enjoy everything their fave group/soloist release. Your thoughts towards the album are completely valid! Sometimes they try different genres and it's not up our alley, which is totally okay! I can appreciate the concept and thought that went into it, but Hobi's On the Street wasn't really for me either.

NGL I kind of forgot that this album was coming out amidst the flurry of life 💀 so it was a nice surprise when my friends started texting me wild about it LOL. I liked the album more than I expected, though I don't think there's a song I can pinpoint as my favorite as of rn! Just overall good vibes and Like Crazy sounds like a drug if that makes sense 😂🤣 Tae's solos are always great! I've been waiting for KTH1 since Winter Bear LMAO 😂

If even one person checks out whalien 52 after this convo my job has been done lol. I ride hard for that song! And I love Epiphany and Magic Shop as well - because of the time I found them I remember those songs popping up early when I did a spotify shuffle of their stuff and I was just amazed that there almost wasn't a single song in their discography that I wanted to skip. Jimin really gave us (crying?) in the club vibes for sure with Like Crazy lol. The mv felt like i was under the influence or something lol - the concept was cool! I'm happy the album was a surprise to you because I've been on the EDGE of my seat waiting for each of the member's releases lol. I love when an artist releases something that I wasn't expecting and I don't have to suffer/can immediately check it out lol. We can both geek out together when Tae's release comes 😭

incoming long post of slightly better articulated (yet still waffly) phalaris main album thoughts before i log off and go to bed

schadenfreude is musically quite reminiscent of tiw and/or twom at times, and while not my personal favourite, i think the opener spot is the best place for it. i see it as leading us into the new album while also tying into the previous era. it does still feature the kinds of synth elements that punctuate this album, and those parts in the song (i.e the intro and the bit at approximately 3:30 with the twinkly guitar and the low synth backing kyo’s vocals) are the parts i like the most.

i don’t understand the title choice for the perfume of sins but the song is a right banger and i wish it had been a single instead of ochita. but i guess that’s what you get when you start putting out singles as early as they did for this album. the symphonic bits are amazing. i also finally watched the mv and i love the execution (pun intended...)

at least initially i feel much more drawn to the second half of the album, which i think sounds fantastic and refreshing after the tiw era. songs like utsutsu, bouga wo kurau (which, yes, is technically still first half but closer to the halfway point), mouai ni shosu and otogi remind me a lot of arche and listening to those for the first time i could clearly see why so many arche songs were suddenly thrown into the live set rotation for the new tour lol. i hope they bring out these new songs for live shows soon too.

ochita is the weakest song on the album by far for me. especially with the way they muffled the guitar bridge/breakdown in the album version (i still think that can't have been intentional. but who knows. i don't trust their mixing engineers), but also composition-wise. i can feel quite fond of ochita when in the right mindset because after all this pandemic hell the song already feels nostalgic to me, but on this album, not so much.

hibiki is beautiful and one of the songs that made me get choked up hearing it the first time. the vocal lines on the more melodic tracks really stand out to me on this album and this song is one of the ones where the melody really carries the song.

i expect eddie to grow on me hard. so far i like it fine, but i think it will be a fantastic live song.

otogi really stands out to me as a complete piece, definitely a gem and one of my instant favourites (and not just because it could be an arche song). the instrumentation is so dreamy and the composition is nice and dynamic. the chorus is gorgeous with the harmonies in the background and the powerful low drums. the rhythm section interlude is very cool too. i also feel like this is the best place to mention that i will never not be in awe of kyo’s versatility as a vocalist. this is one of those dir songs that make me go I LOVE THIS BAND SO MUCH AHHH.

when i say i sobbed for the entire nine minutes of listening to kamuy for the first time i am not exaggerating. i was so surprised by the direction this song took since i had not expected it to stay so mellow the whole way through. with dir, you begin to expect a big breakdown or a dramatic switch up in a long song like this, but this one stayed dreamy and melancholic and slightly trippy, keeping the tension in the subtlest most beautiful way possible until the very end, sort of pulling the rug from underneath my feet but in the best way imaginable. also i’m very emotional about the double acoustic guitar. kaoru on acoustic!!!!! we love to see it.

all in all, i like this album a lot more than tiw right off the bat. i promise i will stop with the arche comparisons but the way i felt about the last two tracks in particular vividly reminds me of the way i felt listening to arche for the first time, how awestruck i was. i’m very pleased rn and excited to listen to this album more and discover more about the songs!

Okay beer nony back here and before I reply to anything can we talk about the fact that you also used „fake it til we make it“ in your description of Niall?

Honestly that textpost had me so emotional. I think your opinion is very thorough and accurate and it really feels like it comes from a standpoint of a person that has a) seen them as a four-/fivepiece and b) genuinely cares for them as human beings. I am really happy I get to talk to you, you really seem like your heart is i the right place, gives me a good feeling. 11 Tracks didn‘t surprise in a good or bad way I think I just „assumed“ he would release another very long album, since it has been a while. My Lima Bean has a special place in my heart. He was always like my happy place in 1D. I am so sad I was so young at that time, I wished I would have had the possibility to see some things from a different perspective. But I guess there is no use in like „guilt“. I also struggle with his music a lot, it took me some time to pick out the gems in Lp1. And that makes me even more excited for the future. I really really hope he takes all the time he needs now (I am not sure if you saw but he more or less announced he was taking a break as for now) and I hope he comes back stronger than ever or at least with what he believes to be the music he truly truly wants to make. Because that is the best thing ever. Should that be something I don‘t really like I will still support him the best I can because that will make me the most proud, if that makes sense?

idk about you but now that i’m starting to be their age when they were in the band (i’m 20, so louis’ age during tmh era, liam zayn and niall during mm and harry during four), i look back and i see things completely different. i imagine myself in their place (being away from home all the time, overworked, no rest, stunts, paps, lies, cameras all over you) and i just don’t think i would handle it as well as they did. so, what i’m trying to say is that growing up helps with understanding stuff better, and you can get that different perspective with more depth because you can compare them to your thoughts when you were younger. so i don’t really think it’s a bad thing we were so young back then.

I like putting mc’s life in parts of the Harry Potter series that are not mentioned or vague, maybe some plot holes that I can fix (a little bit arrogant for my part but). I started writing when I was reading the Goblet of Fire, and I thought ‘What if mc was in the Quidditch World Cup but wasn’t mentioned in the books because she wasn’t with Harry?’. The thing with Datura stramonium is that the story has no relation to the Harry Potter books, it’s completely independent and I don’t know what to do with it. There are no restrictions because I can do whatever I want with the characters because they are ocs. And that blocks me in a way. I wasn’t enjoying it anymore and I put it on hold. I intend to finish it next year; I have an outline, a purpose and I know how I want it to end, I just need some time to figure things out and decide how Kate’s going from point A to point B without being boring or tedious.

12. favourite character to write about this year

I knew from the start that Kate must have had a complicated family history, when I used to play HogsMyst, I noticed that mc’s parents where hardly mentioned. I didn’t want Kate to have horrible parents that hate their daughter and that she blames them for everything. I didn’t want that kind of drama. To solve this, the logical solution was that they were really invested in jobs that were of international business (making them travel a lot, and generally being absent). I didn’t want to make Kate a loner either, she needed a relative completely opposite to her parents. And Bernard Walsh happened. A grandfather/mother as a role model was perfect. His personality and backstory came to me so naturally, it felt right. I also wanted to create a cool grandmother as well, but it was then when I added the drama factor: it’s only natural to lose the people we love, and that would make it more realistic.

Bernard is such a wonderful man, I am for sure going to write more about him.

So, we have Datura, and all the random pieces, scenes, dialogues I haven’t written because I don’t know what to do with them. I also have a secret document that someday will see the light of day, when it’s long enough, of a compilation of moments that I cut out from fics because I didn’t want to make them too cheesy).

19. any new fics to start next year

Okay, *cracks knuckles*, since I am currently reading the Order of Phoenix the majority of the fics are going to be “mission oriented” (because of what I explained in point 9). This is the forecast:

- Finishing Datura series

- Missions for the Order: a dangerous trip to Albania and also a mini series about a mission in Drumstrang school (I want to explore first person POV again because I enjoyed it tremendously).

- I also want to explore the time when Charlie went to Romania. I want to discuss how they felt, how they coped with a long-distance relationship, what were the challenges there etc. Also changing the format, maybe through letters or mixing POVS, 2020 is going to be a year of practising different styles for me. So yeah, a few fluffy pieces are in the horizon.

That’s the plan. If I get creative and write other things so be it, and if I get frustrated and I end up not writing, that’s okay too.

I read a lot of magnificent fics this year, there’s a lot of talent out there and that is amazing to me. I will always, always recommend At All Cost series by @ardentmuse. That fic is exquisite; the way its written, the plot, her Charlie… that’s the fic that inspired me to start writing.
