for anyone vaguely interested in legacystuck but has no earthly clue about what happens in homestuck, here's a REALLY brief summary just of the main mechanics of the game, which is the most relevant stuff for this AU
basically, some internet friends play a video game. the game is called sburb.
WHAT IS SBURB?
the game is jumanji-esque in that once you start playing, you're stuck in it, and the only way to get out is to either win the game or to die trying.
the game interfaces with reality; you're not sucked into it, the game affects the world around you.
playing the game is reliant on two people: one person has to host the server, and then the second person downloads the client version of the game. the second person is now stuck in the game; the server host is not, but is able to interfere with the second player's world by clicking stuff on their screen, which equates to destroying or moving things in the client's world.
you don't need to wrap your head around that too much; it's not the most important part.
COOL. WHAT DO YOU DO IN SBURB?
you play the game by traveling through gates to different areas of the map, and you complete tasks to level up. when you hit higher levels, you have greater control of your powers, which are:
your "classpect" (class+aspect) is assigned by the game, which is basically what kind of magic powers you have
upon entering the first gate, a world is generated unique to each person's classpect and personality. this is a near-endless map that has little animal creatures called "consorts." they have villages and an economy and stuff. they're cute
at the center of this planet is something called a "denizen" which is basically a megaboss; you have to either fight & kill them, or strike a deal with them for whatever they want in exchange for not killing you.
when you fall asleep in the game, you wake up either on a gold moon (prospit) or a purple moon (derse). these moons are at war with each other. you have to kill some key political figures for an ideal game session. this is relevant, but not for right now, so I'm not going to go too deep into this.
there are frogs. a frog is a universe. you have to breed the frogs, and then if you have created the perfect frog, that will be your new universe. because it turns out that the game actually destroys your previous world permanently. there's no going back; there's only moving forward.
also, your inventory is called a "sylladex." god knows why.
at the beginning you have to make a little sprite out of an object and a semi-living being. this thing follows you around and gives you unhelpful advice. this is only semi-related to the political situation on the moons. don't worry about it too much.
don't worry about that guy with a black carapace and a knife. he likes to stab people. it's probably fine.
there's obviously a lot more, given that homestuck is 8000 pages long, BUT! these are the basics. I think. for the things that are going to be most important for the AU I am making. if you read all of this, holy shit hi wow if not, people who follow me can just block the legacystuck tag
