“They will question in a way that will make people second guess themselves, Fae can’t lie but vague or hesitant answers are enough to assume they’re not telling the truth. Human tactic but magic makes it worse.” His colleagues were subjected to many of his complaints on this and as it is with like-minded people, they shared his sentiment. “As if that’ll stop me from calling them idiots, as a defence attorney I have the right to call police idiots,” he huffed a laugh. “But you’re right with that, the Council w–” he cut off with a look at her. Could he speak freely? They didn’t bicker like they used to anymore, but this was still a transactional situation was it not? But she was on the council. Ken held his tongue for once. “I’ll work on Billie’s case as best I can. I’ve already submitted her bail and required paperwork, and reviewed her interviews to build a defence but that’s the extent of my reach. I don’t have the power to sway the Council’s decision.”
Seeing her sit down and comment on his systems caused an uptick of lips into a tiny smile. She knew how he worked, saw it too many times but now was not the time to reminisce. “It’s fine, I’ve rearranged it about five times now. Five more times was on the horizon whether you’d be here or not, so,” he gestured across it, sitting down as well, using the coffee table to lean back on as legs spread out in front crossed at the ankles, “Have at it. We have Anna, Billie and Irirangi,” he pointed to the respective  files. Siren. Siren. Banshee. He didn’t want that pattern to continue. Facing Bea, he shrugged, “Help me not to run too wild with my theories? Why do you think the Fae are being targeted?”

She spun on her feet to make her way into his kitchen. With her back to Ken, Bea hid her grin as she placed the box triumphantly on his counter. Bribery complete. She was glad she could do so without the groveling this time. As she walked back into the living room, she heard Ken sifting through her new files. "Right? It's like I know we can bend the truth when we have to, but we literally can't lie. How are they going to bend that?" Bea sighed and plopped onto his couch as he thought out loud, seemingly just to himself. She fought a smile at the familiar scene of Ken's brain working through a case, seeming to lose himself in the details as he went through them.
When he remembered she was there she gave him a sarcastic wave. "Well, I was hoping for your help building a case for Anna and Rangi since I'll have to present it to the Council, and though your observations are pretty spot on, I don't think calling them idiots would get them a lighter sentence," she said, sighing as she dipped further into his couch. "I don't know what to do about Billie, though. She's not in the Court so my reach doesn't extend to her and I think the Council is going to make an example of her. With the rate of crime going up, they're going to want to tamp it down any way they can, I think." She bit her tongue before sliding down the couch to sit criss-cross on the floor in front of Ken's share of documents. "I don't want to touch anything, I know how you get about your... organization," she said, a hint of doubt in her voice at the seemingly random piles of files and loose papers. "Is there anything I can do to help?"

Special-Toons AU: Ostara Character Sheets
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bios:
C-004-E: Eggward "Eggson" Yolkson ~ Eggward Yolkson, better known as "Eggson," is the gentle elder toon of the GardenView Ostarians. He views the other Ostarians as his own with most of his aid being offered by Bassie. He used to be the famed egg hunt champion, even having stories and tales about said egg hunts, although his deteriorating vision makes it near impossible for him to participate in the modern day. But don't let his ailment fool you; despite his lack of sight, he is still fairly nimble and can hold his own in a tight situation.
U-003-E: Flyte Solaris ~ Older brother to Flutter, Flyte Solaris is the primary scavenger of the GardenView Ostarians. Although fairly timid himself, he will stand in to defend his friends and family. He keeps to himself most of the time, though if asked will assist the scavenging squad on their run. Having learned a little too much, he is wary of the truth and scared of the consequences...
R-007-E: Cocoa Cadbury ~ A small bun with a lot of energy, Cocoa Cadbury is the spirit and the muscle of the GardenView Ostarians. Always willing to help a fellow toon out, she hops around the center with a pep in her step and a smile on her face. Her chalk bombs make for great wall decorators and a handy alternative to smoke bombs while the bonbons she stores in her neck fluff give an ample speed and strength boost. With her supportive cheer, she can be considered somebody to depend on.
M-007-E: Bassie Evergreen ~ The smallest main within GardenView, Bassie Evergreen is the humble leader of the Ostarians. A very soft-spoken toon, she tries her best to be someone worth depending on. She herself is gentle in nature, though sometimes her paranoia can get the better of her. In these situations, she tends to isolate herself from others and snap at those who try to bother her. She refers to herself as "Bea" in such scenarios.

for: bea @crescentcrowd location: his house
Moving the couple boxes of files that held all the information he had gathered about the break-ins and the suspects from the firm’s office to his house office was not all a wrong move. While additional copies had to be made, it served a better purpose in the end; less distractions and a bigger space to move about freely. Well, a bit more freely than he could at the office. Despite being in loungewear– stiffness of suits was not needed here– Ken still maintained the same level of organisation, held the same level of intensity while he poured over the documents placed neatly in front of as he sat on the floor of his living room, scanning them for details, remaking and refining his notes. This, though rare, was not entirely uncharacteristic in times of cases of high importance, and in the privacy of his own house judgement was naught. Absorbed as he was into his work, Ken missed the first knock at his door, only when it sounded again did he break out of his concentration. Frown etched in immediately for a myriad of reasons but as he cast a glance at his attire that he had deemed too casual to receive visitors a second went into considering to change, but realising that would require much effort his mind switched to the important task of who was on the other side. “Oh. It’s you.” Scowl dissolved at the sight of Bea to a more puzzled expression, had he forgotten she was dropping by? Appointments had been shuffled around a lot lately but of course he knew what brought her here, Fae faces plastered all over the news. It was a busy time for her too, “Come in,” he finally said, opening the door wider, “Did I keep you waiting long? The knocking didn’t register immediately.”

Were he expecting her next move, he would not bend under the weight of the boxes, but unexpected as it was Ken held onto it and his balance well enough as he watched her walk inside. This though, he should’ve expected, their transactions may have paused for the moment as each other’s help was not required lately but with the cases and all the suspected being Fae, her bribes returned and he wouldn’t say no need since the treats were already presented there was but he already had vested interest in this case – pastries were a bonus. “Put it on the counter.” For later. If he remembered. Despite the shock of pink sticking out in the muted tones of his interior, it was the files that held more interest as he moved to place them next to his own, immediately diving in to see if they held something else, something he missed.
“Obviously they didn’t,” he scoffed, “You’d think the word of a Fae should be considered given that they can’t lie but idiots will be idiots.” Despite not facing her directly, Ken continued to talk as he flipped through pages, stopping occasionally to scribble things down and rearrange things he organised on his floor seemingly working with a system only he knew. “And the evidence? Over-literal. Anna leaving knives behind? Billie playing her own station? I have to laugh. Irirangi is interesting but the spray paint seems childish. Something’s not adding up and it’s irritating me that I can’t figure it out.” Ken grumbled under his breath and followed with incomprehensible mutters that even he didn’t register as he lost himself in his work again, only to look up suddenly to find Bea still there. “Oh. Right. Yes. What can I help you with?”

Bea lugged a few boxes from her car, most of them filled with case files on Rangi and Anna, the other, far more important: a means of bribery. After placing them both on Ken's stoop, she tapped out a knock and waited for him to come to the door. It had been a good thing Kadir forced her into a vacation afterall, considering how much time she needed to represent her fae. After waiting a beat too long, Bea knocked a bit harder this time. If he was doing this to get more pastries out of her, he was sorely mistaken. Just before she could swear at him through the door, Ken opened it looking a bit frazzled. Or at least as frazzled as Ken Matsui could ever be. She lifted a brow at the loungewear and tried to recall the last time she'd seen him out of a suit. "Nope, not too long. Guess you were... busy?" Back to business, Bea lifted the heavy boxes and placed them in his hands before walking past him to the living room. Vampires were supposed to have super strength anyway, right? "I brought almond croissants and danishes. Is that sufficient for a retainer for the day?" She flipped open the lid on the pink cake box she'd brought in herself. "I think I need some help with the recent fae cases... especially because I'm not entirely sure they did it." While she wasn't too well acquainted with Rangi, she knew this was nothing like Anna.
