Maria may be lonely, but she supposes it's nothing less than she deserves.

Before, just thinking of everything that's happened over the past few weeks had been so agonizing that she'd wanted nothing more than to tear out her hair and scream until she couldn't anymore. Now, that feeling may have dulled a little, and she's even been able to smile again since, yet... it doesn't feel like healing. Though the threat of eternal night may have passed, to Maria, the world still feels darker than ever.

But it's not like she isn't trying to move forward. Maria still doesn't want to throw away the things she values or let herself become useless in the face of injustice - and for that reason, she needs to find the strength inside her to go on; to find something worth living for even when she's now on her own. ...Well, maybe she's not entirely alone. There's Juste, who did save her life and call her family, even if he doesn't quite understand her in the way she wishes someone would. And then there's Alucard...

Maria doesn't really know how to feel about him. His stoic nature makes him difficult to read, and she never had the chance to speak much with him at all - all she really knows about him is that he's a half-vampire and the son of Dracula. But maybe that lack of knowledge is what's been making her so curious. Has he ever struggled with his nature as a dhampir, and as the son of someone who hurt and killed so many? Did it hurt him, to kill his father with his own hands? Has he doubted himself or doubted the world he lives in? Has he ever felt lonely?

...It's difficult to imagine someone as legendary as him as someone who lives and feels like the rest of them, but Maria knows that thinking that way is unfair. Deep down, though... maybe it's just that a part of her wants to hope that maybe he could understand. Their stories may not be the same, but the similarities between their circumstances - no matter how slight - are enough to make her want to confide in him, even with the possibility that she'll be let down. But in the end... she doesn't really know how to ask, or if she even can.

"Are you staying, then? Or are you going with Richter?" Gazing out over the horizon, she sits next to Alucard, watching the world as it goes by - a world utterly oblivious to her feelings. "Or are you going to travel again? Juste said that's what you were doing before."

"I am telling you now... you know how difficult it's to date at our age, especcially being a woman who already has a kid?" he nodded and pushed you closer, "i planned on telling you soon, i just, didn't know how, i was expecting something like this to happen to have the oportunity to tell you.

"You are lucky i already have practice with that green haired boy... call him, we can set a dinner and i can meet him formally, maybe even bond?" you coudln't help but smile and kiss him.

Donquixote Doflamingo

He already has experience with children since he literally adopted a lot of them.

One day someone robbed on the royal treasure chamber of Dressrosa and he was furious, he was looking for you to help him relax.

"Don't talk to us like that, yesterday i was furious that you were so childish but right now, i wont tolerate you talking to your mother or me with such a disrespectful tone." you had to hide a laugh, he clearly was getting his frustations out but at the same time trying to be nice. "so tell me, how can a son of a marine officer become a pirate?"

"Well..." and you knew that this would be a long night.

Since Luffy and Uta, he was out of the parenting thing, for now.

Humans, Dracula thinks, are nearly all the same.

Only nearly, because he can't condemn them all to the same judgement without remembering the woman he loved. Lisa was a human too, and when he had met her for the first time, he'd expected her to be just like the rest - an assumption very quickly proven wrong even within moments of their first meeting. It's not like he's forgotten that.

But humanity... they never deserved a miracle like Lisa to live among them. Yes, she was a miracle - shining warmly and bringing love and life to his world; a world that had once been so devoid of them. And yet, just like a candle's flame, that light of hers was extinguished too quickly - and so easily by the hands of the humans she'd always believed in.

In the end, they let him down just like he always knew they would. The nature of humans is by and large the same wherever you go... So you see, rarely does Vlad Dracula Tepes encounter a human who he doesn't know what to make of. She was the first. And now... this boy.

Pros and Cons of Working Garrison Duty for the Lyrans

Pros:

- full compensation for overhead and transit costs (it’s a lot of C-bills to jump from Tikonov to Nekkar and they just covered that shit for us, very cool. Feds are fucking cheapskates)

- Sometimes there’s fully like. Two months in a row where nothing happens and you get paid to sit on your ass! (unless you’re a tech, that’s prime refit time, enjoy wiring 8 new medium lasers into a Hunchback bozo)

- Semi-functional economy in the 3030s means you can actually buy replacement parts! (in the Draconis March, we just kind of had to pray that the next fight would yield something of the same weight to salvage limbs off of)

- 70% salvage rights! When the captain killed some Legion of Vega samurai larper in a duel, we could just steal his Banshee, no problem

- Get to fight different enemies over the course of your contract! It gets real boring seeing the same Kurita red paint every week for a year, getting a splash of Marik purple in there is nice for the eyes.

-Pay’s good, but that should go without saying. If you’re losing profit on a job your captain’s a fucking moron.

Cons

- On months where you aren’t doing literally nothing, the opps will not leave you the fuck alone. I thought everyone’s industrial base was fucked still, how does the FWL have the resources to throw like two hundred hover tanks at some backwater Steiner world? Nonsense.

- The average Lyran general has the strategic acumen of a deep sea isopod. “Hmmm yes a breakthrough mission where the mercenaries must evade enemy defenders to get behind their lines, let us review their TO&E. Hmmm light mech Lance where the slowest member is a Javelin? No no, preposterous. The fucking HEAVY TANK LANCE, that’s the unit for the job. Famously, the Behemoth is both agile and highly resistant to getting immobilized” these people are deranged and never beating the social general allegations

- I don’t speak German. The fuckin Vulcan pilot they attached to my Lance last foray was on comms like “Ah, mein Söldner, ich habe dich gesucht” like that’s cool man I like giving sloppy too but we have to shoot the dracs now
