Today is your first official day as a nurse at this asylum. The past few days were all introductions and getting familiar with the building and routine of the system. However, you had a run-in with one of the patients yesterday. He had somehow escaped from his room and was on a run for it. He walked right into you and you both stumbled over but he quickly got back up and continued to run. You stood there unsure what to do.

Another nurse passed you chasing down the man with a syringe containing a familiar liquid. Based on the needle itself and the color and consistency of the liquid you assumed it was some kind of sedation injection. You knew that this situation didn't involve you and you shouldn't get involved.

You were later informed that the man was named Wooyoung and he had a record of breaking loose, being violent, and getting sedated. He had these theories in his head that the nurses were trying to slowly kill him off with the drugs they were giving and injecting into him. Staff and doctors believed he had a very strong case of delusional disorder, most likely persecutor, and perhaps something else, though Wooyoung was nearly impossible to test. Any equipment or suspicious questions would set Wooyoung off and he'd become resilient in sharing anything, or he'd plainly lie.

In his teenage years, he was diagnosed with an anger disorder but the specific type switched between doctors. Some said he had a conduct disorder whereas others said it was more likely oppositional defiant disorder. He was on a mix of pills, switching between all kinds along with battling depression and childhood trauma. When he hit the age of 19, he had a psychotic breakdown and murdered his father and siblings. He was unable to kill his mother because of his emotional attachment but she committed suicide not long after the accident.

Wooyoung was on a run from the police for a while but it took only a few weeks for the police to find him. Ever since, he's been in mental institutions and asylums. His final placement is here, though if things don't improve he may be sent to a higher leveled asylum under the same branch.

You close the folder containing all of such information about Wooyoung.

"So, will you take on the task of treating Jung Wooyoung?" Your new boss, Seonghwa, looks up at you through his glasses on the other side of his desk. "I'm aware you were assigned to other patients previously but I believe, based on your record as well as his, you will be able to...handle, wooyoung better than others," he explains, his gloved hands resting on the desk. You take a deep breath as you consider his offer. "You have until tomorrow at 3 pm to decide. I won't force you to take on Wooyoung but I heavily encourage it," he nods his head and you look up at him, determined.

"I'll take him. Will he be my only patient?" You ask as you look back at his file.

"Yes. Wooyoung requires an outrageous amount of attention, especially if he caters to you," Seonghwa explains, "but your pay will remain the same," he explains. After some paperwork and legal talk, Seonghwa takes you to meet Wooyoung in his room, though his room looks more like a cell. Numerous locks and pins need to be entered in in order to open the door.

Once the heavy door swings open your eyes fall upon Wooyoung wearing a whiteout outfit as he lays on his bed, throwing a bouncy ball at the wall and back into his hand repetitively as he lays back on his bed, head draping down the side. "He likes to play with those, though they are rather hard so be careful," Seonghwa states calmly.

"I like them because it's the only shit you fucking give me!" Wooyoung sits up and throws the ball at Seonghwa's head, though he excellently dodges the throw.

"Wooyoung, this is Y/N, she will be your new nurse," Seonghwa gestures to you and suddenly you feel like you're looking at a dart and you're his target. Wooyoung's eyes scratch up and down your body and you can't tell if he's eyeing up prey or simply looking at you.

"Okay," Wooyoung scoffs, laying back down; this time his head rests against the pillow.

"Well that went well..." Seonghwa sighs and Wooyoung instantly sits back up.

"Stop treating me like an animal!" He barks, jaw clenched.

"My apologies," Seonghwa bows his head and Wooyoung stifles and angry growl in his throat.

"Look at you, hiding in the doorway because you don't know when I might snap and just go...savage," Wooyoung rises to his feet, long black hair dangling in his eyes. "Stop poking a stick at a feral beast and fucking shoot it," Wooyoung's voice is rough and angry, rage built up inside him. Seonghwa then closes the door.

"He's in a foul mood today," he explains as he clips in some of the locks. "If it makes you feel better there is a window you can watch him through but he can't see you there," he explains, "if you'd like to see his natural behaviors and such, it is available," Seonghwa then carries on with his business and you watch the ball on the floor roll with the wind of Seonghwa's movement. You crouch down, picking up the rubbery and nostalgic toy before turning back to look at his door. You considered giving it back to him but you worried that he would think you're treating him like a dumb dog.

Instead, you make your way to the room Seonghwa mentioned. It has all the information about Wooyoung, his medications, and the codes for his locks in there as well as the window. You sit down at the desk and look at the array of bottles of medication laid out and the syringes within arms reach on the wall. You sigh softly and browse through the names of his medications.

As you peacefully read there's a loud bang on the glass, startling you. You drop one of the bottles on the floor. As you go to pick it up Wooyoung begins to lick the glass, trailing his tongue along the entirety of the glass, creating a long streak of saliva. That's when you realize. You've bit off more than you can chew. Wooyoung really is more out of it than you thought. He then bashes on the glass again.

"I know you're watching me~" he grins as he claws at the glass. "Always watching me through that manipulative glass, too afraid to look the beast in the eye," he spits onto the glass as you go up to the glass. You see him then wind up for an aggressive kick, his boot clashing against the glass. You then hear the door open behind you and you jump to look at him.

"He's an interesting character huh?" Yeosang smiles softly before coming to stand beside you, watching Wooyoung fight the glass. "He does this sometimes. We believe it's because of his anger issues but it wouldn't surprise me if it's a behavior from his delusional disorder as well," he explains as Wooyoung shows his middle fingers to the glass, he knows someone is there so he displays all his rage.

"What exactly is his delusion?" You ask, turning to look at Yeosang. He sighs softly before looking back at Wooyoung.

"I think it'd be best if you heard him explain but I'll tell you the basis," Yeosang continues to look at Wooyoung's behaviors as he talks. "He believes we are slowly trying to kill him. "Pill by pill" in his words," he explains and your eyes widen.

"That's why he doesn't take his meds?" You ask and Yeosang nods.

"He has this belief that the government wants him dead and that's why he's here. He claims that he's heard staff talking about his death but I think he's trying to twist our words to convince himself his theories are true," He explains as Wooyoung moves to the door, pulling on it hard before kicking it and shouting some PG words. "Would you like to accompany me to give him his final meal of the day?" Yeosang smiles and you nod.

Yeosang leaves you to watch Wooyoung, make sure he doesn't hurt himself or escape somehow while Yeosang gets his dinner plate. When Yeosang returns the two of you make your way to Wooyoung's room. You open the door and take the plate from Yeosang. You see Wooyoung sitting on the center of the floor, staring at the wall.

"I've brought you dinner. I've heard you like this meal hm?" You smile and Wooyoung turns from the center of the floor to look at you.

"God I was starving," he stands up, approaching you warmly. All of that rage he executed earlier is now somehow...erased. This is the first patient you've been genuinely scared of because he's the most unpredictable bastard in the world. "Yeah, this is the best meal this shithole offers. The potatoes taste like cardboard but it reminds me of my mom's cardboard potatoes," Wooyoung takes the plate and sits back on the floor.

"Where I come from potatoes were included in almost every meal and they were always locally grown. I've never had cardboard potatoes," you chuckle and Wooyoung looks up at you, seemingly confused.

"You're not missing out much," he shrugs as he shovels some potatoes into his mouth. You look back at Yeosang who gives you a thumbs up and Wooyoung rolls his eyes before turning his back to you.

"You wouldn't let me try some?" You squat down to his level. He turns to look at you again and you can tell he's thinking hard. His jaw is clenched as he looks you up and down, eyes pausing at your breasts for a moment.

"I guess," he shrugs, handing you the plate and spoon with a rounded end and unbreakable metal. You take a scoop of the potatoes and try not to touch your lips with the spoon. Wooyoung watches you with rapt attention, his eyebrows narrowed in focus. "Taste like shit?" He smirks as you swallow the potatoes. They do really taste like cardboard....

"Kind of yeah," you chuckle, "they taste just like cardboard..." you rise to your feet again, and Wooyoung attempts to look up your skirt a little but it's just too damn long. He pouts slightly before looking up at your face. "Would you like something to drink?" You ask Wooyoung before turning to Yeosang. "What do we have to offer?" You ask him.

"We have milk, water and apple juice though I think it's expired," Yeosang replies.

"Milk or water?" You bend down to talk to Wooyoung again.

"Milk I guess," he shrugs before continuing to it his food. "Now shut up and let me eat," he turns his back to you again and you can't help but smile. You've made such progress with him already. You get some milk for him and when you return he still has his back faced to you. You set the cup beside him and head for the door. "Y/N," he says your name for the first time. You turn back to look at him.

"Yes?"

"Can I have seconds?" He holds up his empty plate and you smile. You go to the kitchen to get him some more and find the staff are actually quite friendly. You return to Wooyoung with a new plate of food and he gratefully takes it and eats again. You return to the watching room with Yeosang.

"He's never asked for seconds before, this is quite a big deal," he turns to you with his spinning chair.

"I think he likes me," you smile as you sit in the second chair, watching Wooyoung eat.

"It's a good start at least,"

Chapter 1

For Whumptober 2024 Day 27, Before and After, Alternate universe

So, I guess I forgot to post this one here? Originally, this was just supposed to be one shot—Dick and Lazarus!Tim bonding but 4,613, chapter 2 is on the way. 😂

In a blink, the knife is out of his hand soaring across the living room, towards the intruder. All the while without dislodging the bottle from the fussy pup in his arms. After hours of crying—of soothing, and changing, and singing, and bouncing, and burping she had refused to go down until now and Tim was Exhausted™️.

If he didn’t know any better, he would have assumed the black and blue costumed vigilante was another assassin sent by the League—Nightwing moved with easy grace, easing his way through the window, movement flowing like water and air. But not even the best of the League had managed to crack his security without electrocuting the shit out of themselves.

The room was illuminated by Friends reruns and the Gotham skyline peaking in through the crack in the curtains.

Nightwing ducked and weaved, only narrowly missing a knife through the delt. He rolled back to his feet without a hitch, shocking blue eyes wide and wild with the whiteouts down. The knife stuck in the wall with a satisfying thunk.

Without missing a beat Tim uttered lowly, “Breaking and entering is punishable offense. At the very least it’s C felony, at least 10 years in prison, and upwards of a $250,000 fine.” Not that he could actually get a judge in Gotham to prosecute without a hefty bribe.

Nightwing held up his empty palms in surrender keeping his feet firmly planted. “I’m sorry, we haven’t heard from you and I wanted to check on you.”

Tim discretely adjusted the cashmere blanket across his lap over the pup with a silent prayer she didn’t wake up. “Well, you can tell everyone I’m fine. If I needed help, I would have asked.” He snarks, adding. “But I didn’t.”

I don’t need a keeper.

But that was the thing about bats—they had a tendency to be too nosey for their own good, to pick, and poke, and prod until you were on the verge of wanting to pull your hair out and scream.

Boundaries? I hardly know her.

If Nightwing noticed, he didn’t say anything, opting to remove his domino and tucking it away, his brows were furrowed.

Tim knew how he looked—gaunt, deep purple bags under his eyes, cheekbones sharper than they should be.

Welcome to being a single parent.

“I know you didn’t ask but it’s what family does. I want to help.” Dick sounded painfully desperate earning an eye roll. “No matter what you will always be my little brother.”

Tim scoffed, “If I needed help I would have asked.” What part of he’s fine was not getting through that thick skull of his? Maybe it’s just all the years of vigilante-related concussions. “Maybe in another life we were family but I’m not your brother, Dick,” not anymore , “you don’t even know me.”

Dick breathed a heavy sigh, moving around the overstuffed couch to sit. It took everything in Tim not to bare his teeth and growl. “Of course I know you, Tim. You will always be my little brother.”

“But I’m not!” Tim finally snapped, startling Amalia awake. Her little lip wobbled, her nose scrunched, and Tim went into oh shit mode. Her wails made his inside twist and churn with the need to fix it , as she shook her tiny fists in anger.

He set the empty bottle down and adjusted her so she was upright in his arms to burp her. “Shh, ya Rohee,” he crooned, patting her back.

My soul.

She was his everything—his sun, his moon, to the moon and to Saturn. The only good thing that came of his time with Ra’s after the Council of Spiders and the Pit.

He could feel Dick watching him but didn’t look up, opting to instead rock his infant. She was small, even for a babe of her age, he still had a hard time imagining her anything other than fragile.

He nuzzled her, her patch of almost black, whispy hair tickled his nose, purring softly. It was a little uneven with disuse but it soothed her enough to bring her wails down to whimpers. She smelled milky and soft and like his . He did his best to ignore the hint of spicy incense underlying in her scent from her other father.

She was his and no one else’s. It would change in a few months and maybe he would finally stop seeing him in the shadows.

There was no way she was going down now but he’d lost all hope of that when Dick disengaged his security and decided to sneak in (an issue he would be working on a patch for later).

His eyes felt hot but he ignored it. He didn’t need a nap anyways, right? He’d worked more on less after all. This should be cake , right?

Eventually, as the pup calmed down, Tim dared to glance up at his unwanted visitor. There was a complicated expression that Tim couldn’t quite discern despite all of his training. “You don’t know what I’ve been through. I don’t even know who I am.”

For a long moment, Dick sat with that, a complex flurry of emotions crossed his face before settling on something soft. A fondness, watching the small pup in his arms. “You have a baby?” Talk about understatement of the century.

Tim rolled his eyes, continuing to pat the pups baby. “Yes, last time I checked I did, in fact, have a baby. I have the stretch marks to prove it. You want to see?”

Dick shook his head, “That isn’t what I meant. I just…How old is she? What’s her name?” He sat forward with his elbows on his knees.

Tim had to think for a long moment, back tracking the dates. The escape had been four days following her birth, still sore and as unsteady on his legs like a newborn fawn. There hadn’t been a choice—it was escape or lose Amalia. She had been born weak, words like failure to thrive had been tossed around. Ra’s Al Guhl was gifted with another disappointing heir.

“Well, Timothy, we’ll just have to try again, won’t we? Surely you won’t disappoint your Alpha a second time.” The or else was implied.

He had still been on his back, bleeding from the long birth. His milk supply hadn’t come in and the tiny pup wailed across the room with the wet nurse.

“Tim?” Dick sounded concerned, snapping him back into the present. His grip on Amalia tightened just a hair, her warm weight against his shoulder grounding.

“Amalia,” he said remembering the question. “Her name is Amalia and she’s-“ If he had been in Gotham for nearly a month, days before being found out and the trek from the Cradle to Gotham had taken around two weeks… “Her birthday is July 19th.” He said instead.

Fresh out of the Pit, time was hazy, seasons and dates made little impact on his life and Gotham’s perpetually gray skies.

Dick had a worried look on his face. “What about her other the father?”

“Dead.” Tim said succinctly.

That he made sure of.

Dick made a soft noise of acknowledgement, continuing to watch the baby with a fondness in his eyes. He didn’t push the matter. “She’s beautiful. You did so well.” He croons softly, “I’m sure it was hard for you.” He didn’t know the half of it.

“It was hard,” Tim admitted softly, basking in the Alpha’s praise. Finally, Amalia burped. “I had a few people that helped—Talia and an assassin I saved after-“ before he died, after the Pit, and before Amalia. “After. They made it easier but Talia wasn’t around often. I don’t think she was overly fond of what he was doing.”

“What about the assassin?”

Tim bit his lip, his eyes felt hot. “I don’t feel her bond anymore.” There was a bone deep ache without her. Whether she had cut it herself to save him, or really hadn’t made it out after Ra’s death, was all up in the air. “I’ve looked for her but-“

“But she’s part of the League.” Dick filled in and Tim nodded. He was quiet for a long moment before promising, “We’ll find her.”

Tim looked up from the pup quickly, “What?”

“We’ll find her.” Dick repeated with all of the seriousness in the world. “For you. I promise.”

Tim held his eye for a long moment, gauging the whether or not believe his words but Dick’s resolve never faltered. He felt his pulse pick up and a bright blip of emotion he didn’t want to think about. “Don’t make promises you can’t keep. What about Batman? He doubt he’ll be a fan of having a member of the League in Gotham.”

“I’ll handle Bruce.” Dick promised. “Just focus on you and your pup. We will find her.”

Tim bit his lip nodding once. He didn’t trust it but maybe… maybe just this once he would try.

Not just on how good their parenting is towards the main protags, but for ALL of their children in general?

Cattail - 1/5. Doesn't even count. Basically was completely absent from Clay and the rest of his troop. Sold Clay's egg to her sister for a cow. I like thinking Asha would've been a better mother, and yeah MudWing culture is just like this, but still. Bad parenting.

Coral - 1/5. Terrible on all levels. She loves her daughters, but even then love isn't enough to be a good mother. She also completely neglects all of her sons. Awful. Do not pass go. Go directly to jail.

Farsight - ???/5. No idea what she was like or if she was even an okay mother.

Thorn - 3/5. Doesn't seem that bad. Solid C- parenting. She is supportive and loving to Sunny and Qibli from the looks of it.

Secretkeeper - 2/5. Really neglectful and traumatized Moonwatcher for life, but at the very least she didn't like. treat her like utter garbage.

Tundra - 1/5. No.

Kestrel - 1/5. Abused children.

Scarlet - 1/5. Abused children.

Coral - 1/5. Abused children.

Cobra - 1/5. Abused children.

Burnet/Silverspot - 4/5. They don't seem that bad and are pretty kind to Blue and Luna. That's good enough in my books.

Katydid - 3/5. What the fricking frack even was this plot line. She was okay-ish all things considered.

Glaicer - 4/5. Seems okay enough. B parenting from how she's written in TDG.

Burnet/Silverspot - 4/5. Again, not bad.

Foeslayer - 3/5. She was an okay-ish parent to Whiteout and Darkstalker and did as much as she could. I think she's a lot better with Peacemaker now.

Manta - ???/5. I've got headcanons that say she was a good mother, but in canon she's got literally nothing to her.

Wren and Leaf's parents - 1/5. Tried to sacrifice Wren. Go directly to jail.

You know driving to the coast is something I love because I live in a nice Valley where the weather kind of gets stuck, I'm between two of the largest mountain ranges on the west coast, so I can go from a nice warm 20° C and then I drive up into the mountain pass where it's whiteout conditions -5 can't see the road, and then the moment I break through the past all that snow vanishes as I jump right back up to 15° C and absolute pouring rain.

And then if I go the opposite direction east, it's the same kind of thing you start out warm, and then all the roads freeze over and it's snow everywhere as you reach the summit of the other mountain pass, and then you get to the flat landscape that is Alberta and it's negative 30 wind chill and not a speck of snow in sight and you're just like I want to go home.

Y E S. So many. SkyWings have feathers. IceWings have fur. SilkWings have butterfly wings over their ears for protection. Beetle/HiveWings are fluffy now, like bees. NightWing seers have silver diamonds on their foreheads (to name just a few.)

Yeah; Thorn was abandoned as a dragonet due to a common genetic disorder called thorning. (Made a post abt it on my page.)

Sunny is AroAce, Cricket and Whiteout are autistic, and Moon has anxiety.

SilkWings; I love them for their powers and their designs and everything.

I guess NightWings. Hard to balance them out, and the island is just so hard to write/draw.

Gotta say the biggest ones that actually had me feeling things were FoxFlake (idk idk) and Sunlow. What can I say, I’m a weird lesbian.

Moonbli. It could be great, and I like it more later in the series, like in Luna’s book, but I just don’t find it very interesting. Same for Ripnami. I just ship Moon more with Kinkajou, they would be so so so adorable.
