what’s a few letters // mary & lily
Mary never expected herself to be the type to throw a party over grades. School wasn’t exactly her first love, and whatever letters were written at the top of her work were a bore at best and a stressor at worst. But even she could admit the NEWTs were different if only for the fact that getting through them was reason for celebration alone.
At this point now settling into their life post graduation, Mary would take any reason to throw a party anyway. Every opportunity she got, she would go on about how much she missed her friends, even if she hadn’t gone more than a few days yet without seeing them. Something about all the change that came with leaving school had her gripping onto anything and everything familiar. So all Lily had to say was “party” and regardless of the purpose Mary would have been agreeing to be over by seven to help set up.
She showed up at 7:24, apologies at the ready and full bottle of whiskey already open.
“Alright, you better not have done everything while you were waiting for me to show up. Because I meant it about helping,” she said as she threw her arms around Lily in a tight hug like it had been years since they had been together.
“Who all is coming? All the usual suspects?”

corridor catch-up | lily & marlene
@lily-evans-wil
As per usual, Marlene as running late. Very late. So late, infact, that she realised she had missed virtually all of her fourth-period Ancient Runes class, just as she was walking along the Runic corridor on the seventh floor. Which, in itself, was rather ridiculous, as Ancient Runes was the closest classroom to the Gryffindor tower (where she had spent her free third-period milling around, definitely doing anything other than studying). Rather than run the risk of a public dressing-down by Professor Babbling, Marlene figured she’d skip the class altogether, buy the time to figure out some excuse for her absence and go straight into her favourite period of the school day - lunch. Or, as Marlene knew it, as two sticks of Drooble’s best chewing gum and a cheeky fag behind the Herbology greenhouses.
She was heading towards the Grand Staircase when she saw a flash of auburn hair bobbing ahead and radiating out of the sea of black robes, almost like a beacon. In quick pursuit, Marlene darted in and amongst the hordes of other students, who were all merging down towards the Great Hall (and, y’know, actual lunch), in a vast swarm. At one point, Marlene started shoving people out of the way, in order to reach her best friend (and owner of the radiating, beacon-like hair); Lily Evans. After much pushing and shoving (and a very deliberate stomp on the foot of a Slytherin berk who had refused to move easily out of her path), she caught up to Lily, almost out of breath. However, she fell into pace with her best friend easily enough and, without much in the way of greeting, Marlene instead declared,
“So! I have three pieces of good news. One - I heard a rumour that the House Elves are serving your favourite kind of potato at lunch: mashed. Two - my Witch Weekly subscription finally was accepted again, you know, after all those months of forgetting to pay off my over-due sickles, and it got delivered this morning! I’ve already read it, so here you go-” In a flourish of movement, Marlene produced said magazine and pushed it in Lily’s general direction, not drawing breath as she continued to chatter, “And Three - I saw James without a shirt on this morning. I was in the Quidditch stands, having a ciggie and freezing my tits off at the same time, and he just took off his shirt. I guess it was the end of practise but like, I was not expecting him to have grown up so much.” Marlene wiggled her eyebrows, “He is ripped these days, Evans! I reckon he’s absolutely stepped up his work-out regime. Definitely to impress you. He looks so buff!”
