— caine wouldn't really understand the concept of dating.

— all his little ai mind knows is how to create adventures, so you'd probably have to describe dating like an adventure to him, and he'd be taking "notes" the whole time.

"okay, caine—" the man sat in front of you with a sketchpad and pen in his grip, and he stared up at you as he waited for you to continue. "dating is like an adventure, but mostly forever, you know? depends on the person." the sound of his pen scribbling against the paper echoed in the circus as you slightly paced back and forth, and you tried to think of other ways to word it. "on this type of adventure, you can do certain things. like you can buy gifts for the other person, hug them, things like that." you were having a hard time describing it, and you looked towards caine as he gifted you a firm nod. "i believe i understand this whole 'dating thing', now!" he announced as he lifted up his sketchpad to show you, and all that was on it was a drawing of a bee. "did i do good?" at his question, you let out a quiet laugh as you examined his drawing. it was a start. "definitely."

— later, he'd probably try and scavenge his mind for something that gives him a little bit more detail about dating, and he'd probably get this gist of it sooner or later. all he has to do is care about you, and if he was being honest, he did care about you a lot. more than the other members.

— and according to google (something he is not affiliated with whatsoever because it doesn't exist in canon), people who are dating feel that way.

— so, now you both are officially dating!

— he watches you closely during adventures because he doesn't want you to get hurt.

— the monster could be sprinting towards you, and then it just explodes into confetti while caine swears that it was part of the adventure.

— he would most certainly ramble to you about zooble.

— like, he'd be floating in the air with his head down while he mumbles about how they didn't want to go on another one of his adventures that he SPECIFICALLY made for them, and you would be on the ground holding your arms out while he slowly descends before hugging you.

— he's very touchy, by the way.

— just like dating, he doesn't understand the concept of affection, but all he knows is that it feels good so he does it anyway.

— his favourite thing to do is poke you. of course, it's a gentle little poke either to your arm or face, but he constantly does it because he finds it funny.

— caine talks with his hands a lot, so if you were talking with him, you might want to be a couple steps away from him unless you want to get backhanded.

— he's done it before, and it wouldn't be a surprise if it happened again.

— or, his cane would bump into you.

— his cane just seemingly floats around when he's not holding onto it, so its bumped into you a few times.

— if you were to ask him to take you on a date adventure, he'd happily do so!

— he would probably use his ai mind or something to try and come up with actual romantic things to do, for he's overheard you say how you wanted to be romantic, but it's hard because he's seemingly oblivious to everything.

— so, he takes it upon himself to romance you. yes, that's what he calls flirting—romancing.

— he'd ask the other members of the circus what a good date idea was, or an idea they thought you'd like.

— after that, he'd create an adventure! and in his words, "we must inform the people of the palace what we wish to have before venturing into the 'garden of no return', where we will walk until we've defeated the monster of doom!"

— it was a dinner adventure.

— you both ate, walked through a rather pretty garden, and that monster he was talking about? he was talking about hate. jax said that you would hate him if he planned a stupid adventure, and he made a monster appear in the middle of your date called 'hate'.

— it was literally just bubble, though.

— he would introduce himself as hate and say the only way to "defeat" him was to kiss caine.

— you'd "kiss" him (kissing him is just pressing your lips against his teeth), and while you were kissing him, he'd pop bubble.

— you best tell him how much you loved the adventure afterwards, or he'd be insanely sad.

— also, you know how he called the other members weird names after their adventures? like "my meowing milkmaids" and "my little hard-shelled hamburgers"?

— yeah, those are the type of nicknames you're getting from him.

— as far as you know it, you're his 'sozzled silly billy'. when you're sad, you're his 'soggy upsetti-spaghetti noodle'. when you're mad at him, you're his 'little fussy-balussyussy bumblebee'.

— he just makes up words most of the time, but do you still go with it? yes.

— he likes to carry you around the circus.

— he'll float around with you, and if you're scared of heights and demanding to be put down, that's exactly what he'd do.

— he'd drop you midair while he just floats there with a proud look on his face before realizing what he did.

— you should've been mad at him, but after seeing the look he gave you, you just can't be mad.

— it's obvious that caine doesn't like when people are upset at him—including you. he likes it when everyone is happy. so, when you get upset at him, he just stands there with slumped shoulders while staring at you.

— if you did remain upset at him, though, and try to walk away, he will grab your legs and beg you to forgive him. he will not let go until you forgive him.

— as soon as you forgive him, he'd be all happy again.

— will most certainly show you every drawing of a bee he makes, and you'd better praise him every time. it could literally be the same drawing, but he will hold it up to you like a kid would, and he just stares at you until you compliment his work.

— he will draw you and him as bees by the way.

— those are the only drawings he will not show you, and if you catch him drawing you and him together, he'd toss the sketchpad at bubble so she'd eat it.

— and suddenly, you all have to go on an adventure that he hopes is enough to make you forget what you saw.

Caine and the Readers first date

★ Caine didn't ask you on a date, he announced it. "You, my dear, have the honor of accompanying me on a very special adventure!" Handing you a bouquet of flowers and whatever else he thinks is "romantic," like a beating human heart.

★ He builds an entire park, complete with a flower garden. Just for the two of you to walk around in. Each sentence Caine says is rehearsed. But he tries his best to act casual. Ask him if he made this just for you, and he says it's "Just something I threw together."

★ The details tell a different story. Clearly, he had been working on this for a while. "You know, if I had a heart I'm sure it would be fluttery right now." You pause. Thinking about just how long he was waiting to say that.

★ While the two of you were gone, Bubble was left in charge. That ended exactly how you'd expect. With Jax stuck, stranded, on the tent's roof. Gangle hid in the pillow fort with Zooble. No clue where Ragatha and Kinger went. Same with Pomni.

Been a minute since I've written an entire cast shot for TADC-- dont expect this to be a common thing again

Notes: gn reader, short and sweet, written on computer, Canon character focused, im sure ive already written this a loooooooong time ago but blah blah blah feeling like its been long enough to warrant a rewrite esp as new episodes have likely come out between then and now

CAINE

LOVE love loves cuddling with you- hes never actually cuddled another person... bubble doesnt count and thats more of like... comical clinging hug than actual cuddling!

odds are youre physically larger than him but thats not going to stop him being big spoon- definitely has the traditional "men need to be the one in that position" not because he feels he NEEDS to as a man... he just likes feeling like youre personal protector- your man, your guy, your... uhuhuh... yeah!

he sometimes like to cuddle you mid air... hope youre not afraid of heights and the odd feeling of defying physics!

POMNI

again, odds are youre larger than her. she seems more of a little spoon person... though she strikes me as the type to be an awkward cuddler. she doesnt really know where to put her hands- even if its far from the first time youve cuddled into one another

i love her, and she loves you- but pomni looks like the type of person to run uncomfortably hot and doesnt like being touched because of it... clammy and gross feeling, doesnt like it. dont touch her she will get irritated from the feel... its not that she doesnt like you she just doesnt like feeling sweaty

compromises by holding your hand in bed... looping your fingers together as you sleep feels... more tender honestly...

RAGATHA

shes soft and plush- of course she is, shes a doll! definitely has some weight to her... sleeping with her arm wrapped around you is so comforting, genuinely the best sleep youve gotten in a while

she also vaguely smells like berries! so thats a bonus! she totally gets it if you nestle your face into her hair and drift off smelling her! sure its a little quirky but shes not going to judge you for it... honestly if you smelled nice like that she might do the same

no big spoon/little spoon thing... you two mostly just cling onto one another in the bed by any means necessary

JAX

only ever cuddles you when he knows for a fact other people arent going to come in and see him like this. i still stand firm that he hates being seen as soft and vulnerable. even letting himself indulge in stuff like this in an unapologetically tender and sincere way for YOU takes some time

and even then hes most likely to shift into you and cuddle if youre asleep, unable to perceive his rare moment of just... being soft.

he doesnt like being little spoon though, even without the vulnerability stuff

hes kind of sticky.. hes not fluffy in my mind. hes like those rubber squishy toys

KINGER

its... nice holding someone again... but when was the last time hes held someone? why does it feels so familiar but so different- it wasnt you in his arms before was it? it was... someone else, wasnt it? ...hes hardly in the moment long enough most of the time to really dwell on it

he likes being the big spoon- keeping you in his arms... er... hands... makes him feel anchored, calmer. he knows hes missed this even if he cant quite pin point why

but... he kind of melts right into you when you turn it back on him and make him the little spoon. its like seeing a stunned animal relax into comfort

GANGLE

cuddling with her can be a little... hard.. shes made of ribbon so there isnt much to hold and she doesnt have much weight to her... it.. definitely is a sore topic for her. it makes her feel like shes falling short somewhere. like she cant properly cuddle you

even holding her bundled up in your arms doesnt feel right, and shes going to pull away the entire time- doesnt want to waste your efforts even if you try to reassure her... times like this call for creativity--

wrapping her ribbons around you might be a little unconventional... and might lead to tangling- but its something, and its something only you two can do.. no one else! its special and unique to your relationship specifically.. word it like that to her and she'll cheer up a bit!

ZOOBLE

they dont... much care for cuddling. for multiple reasons. partly because its just not for them, and partly because it forces them to actively become aware of what their body is like... the shape, the textures... its all a bit much...

but zooble doesnt want to make you feel rejected- its a hard situation all around. they are going to at least talk to you about it so youre not left in the dark... though it might take a while for them to bring it up

they much prefer non physical intimacy anyways- even prior to the circus. acts of service, talking, spending time. things like that mean more to them

Pomni, Kinger, Caine & Jax's reaction to their s/o abstracting

warning(s): angst, hurt no comfort, self-blame, "death" of the reader, implied "death"/abstraction of another character (spoiler: Kinger), hopeful outcome note(s): There's nothing incredibly heavy or detailed, just tread carefully if "death" is something you are sensitive to, please. The "hopeful outcome" implies that Caine will at some point in time be able to fix those who've abstracted. A/N: I was feeling particularly cruel and wanted to write some angst, this came to mind and I'll be honest. I made myself a little sad.

Pomni

She never saw it coming, of course, you were acting different lately but she didn’t think it would… lead to you abstracting…

It took forever for things to get some semblance of normalcy, and you being with her was a major part of it.

Sure the relationship in a place like this was a bit, weird, but you cared about her, and she cared about you.

You kept her sane and grounded, so when you were found abstracted? It felt like she failed you.

Ragatha tries to assure her that you aren’t completely gone. Like Kaufmo you’re being kept in the cellar. Caine claims the abstracted are being kept there until he can find a way to “fix” them. (Whether he’s genuine or not though, none of them know.)

It’s all empty promises though, she still feels like she failed you.

Kinger

Not again…

Kinger silently promised himself not again, he was fine being friendly with everyone else that fell into the circus, but he had no intentions of being more than that.

But then you happened, and while he was still in shambles from the time and the insanity spent here, you were there beside him. Like a knight in shining armor.

He hadn’t been around when you abstracted, in fact, he didn’t know you abstracted until there was yelling, and boom an abstraction was causing chaos.

Kinger didn’t know who it was until it was sent off to the cellar, actually, he didn’t know who it was until he realized everyone was present except you.

There’s a high probability that losing someone again, losing you, is what ends up being his own downfall. The other’s (not including Jax) try their all to get him to calm down but it’s not enough, it’s too late…

Caine

Of all the humans to be pulled in he never once got attached.

This was never supposed to happen, he’s incapable of love.

Caine does his best to keep the humans from abstracting, and as many eyes as he has over the place, there are always ones that slip through his grasp.

Of course, he’s not around when you abstract, it takes a bunch of hooting and hollering from everyone before he shows up and oh hey an abstraction.

At an immediate glance, he knows it’s you, abstractions never remotely look like the person they were before but he knows it’s you. You don’t recognize him as you lash out, of course you don’t, you can’t.

He’s unsure about tossing you with the others in the cellar, there’s nowhere else he can truthfully keep you without causing problems. So into the cellar, you go.

Caine visits you though, not for long but he does check in on you. Not that anything changes, but out of all the abstractions down there, he knows exactly which one is you.

You’ll be the first human he fixes as soon as he’s able to.

Jax

His s/o abstracted? Nice joke, though it’s in poor taste. You’re completely fine, he just saw you earlier.

Jax doesn’t believe it until he sees it, and seeing it absolutely ruins him. He’s seen countless others get abstracted and thrown into the cellar, but why, why does it have to be you?

Why couldn’t it have been literally anyone else? He didn’t give a shit about anyone else, the one person he cared for, and you…

Similarly to Pomni, he feels it’s his fault like he could’ve, no should’ve done more. Was he so wrapped up in everything else that he didn’t notice the signs? Why didn’t you talk to him? You didn’t, didn’t do that on purpose, did you?

For the first time ever, the others are genuinely worried about Jax, they all saw/know how much you meant to him. The two of you even spoke fondly about what the two of you would do if you got out of the circus.

For a while Jax becomes even more irrational and unhinged, they try not to hold it against him too badly, even when he oversteps. He’s grieving and none of them know just how long that’ll go on.

Jax isn’t quite the same afterward, but he makes sure that nobody else tries to worm their way into his heart.

If it’s possible, he’ll make sure Caine fixes you the second he’s able to. Even if Caine can fix only one person, it’s going to be you.

☆ you get easily frustrated too, so he’s gonna bother you the WHOLEEEEE time if he can

☆ he made gangle drive on the candy canyon adventure because he knew you’d want to

☆ gangle would’ve handed it over to when you protested, but Jax stopped that from happening 

☆ he couldn’t bug you as much as he’d liked to at Spudsy’s since the, y’know, ‘employee training’

☆ but he tried to anyway, you just shooed him off

☆ he was almost impressed by your work ethic.

TADC - Anxiety/Autistic Reader Headcanons.

Gender-Neutral Pronouns Friendship levelled relationships.

For Pomni, she is just as anxious as you, though while she has started to cope with it a lot better for a few months, she can relate to wanting to escape and get out of the circus just as much. The first few interactions are awkward, but after hanging out with them, and you understand her scenario, you both grow to relatable friends and might look for the exit together while trying to go with the flow of the adventures and curious to hear about her adventures, though won't reveal some Out of Bounds secrets early on so you don't recklessly go looking for it fearing of being Abstracted.

Since Ragatha offered a hand to you, you saw Ragatha as a sort of mother figure, if not that, a really good person to go towards for advice or comfort away from the chaotic scenarios that happen in the Circus. While you have confirmed that you mostly rather be left alone to do your favourite activities, you'd start to panic if anything happens to your close friends, especially to Ragatha and she'd respect your space and boundaries the most, even in a bad mood. If there's something the others don't understand about you, you tell them to Ragatha and passes it on towards others, though might raise a eyebrow on Jax knowing him.

Depending on the type of person you are, you either going to relate to Jax or you're going to hate him. Jax is a snarky jackass that would purposely lead you into danger or screw you over or pull pranks. You'd rightfully call him out and would lose your cool towards him, though if you manage to catch some rare instances that he's depressed or in a low mood, you might be able to strike a conversation with him when the mood is calmer, though he tries to hide it. Jax when the façade breaks would probably speak his frustrations about this place and you'd understand his feelings and probably wanted to hang out with him if the adventures started to get boring and stale and cause a tiny bit of trouble. (Not too much to his extent.) Though you know it doesn't excuse the few times he pranked you and left you panicking and overwhelmed and messing with your pattern and routine with dealing with the Digital Circus.

Gangle is probably a member of the Digital Circus that you'd would probably feel the most empathy for and relates to being the joke of the group. Gangle is the most fragile and emotional of the group and to see someone step up and be there for them would be a mood bringer. You'd would be the most apologetic if you ever broke their comedy mask and would help out in repairing it and probably talk about your hyperfixations and some funny stories to try and cheer Gangle up. Though depending with your relationship with Jax, you'd 100% protect Gangle like their life depends on it, because that's not what friends are for being bullies to each other or respectfully tell him to stop.

Kinger is something that is absolutely hard to crack and understand personality wise and difficult. Being the most paranoid and unpredictable member of the group, you could see themselves as Kinger if Ragatha didn't come to your aid and had to adapt without help. You'd probably be scared about Kinger's absent minded and slow reactions to your presence and be scared of them screaming or wielding a shotgun, though tried to calm him down and be there for them regardless of how you feel about him. Depending on the episode canon by the time of writing this (30th September 2024), it is unknown if Kinger would ever talk about Queenie or even mention about her towards you.

Zooble is the most rude and irritable member of the group, while she might be off to do her own thing and not partake in adventures with a soft side to newcomers, I believe that Zooble might be a member that might take a long time to bond with, but maybe an alternative to Jax and wants to let off some steam if Ragatha isn't available and just say a bunch of censored swears. Though you might feel a bit sad if Zooble told you to !#@? off or insulting you and gives them space. Zooble might believe that next to Kinger, you might be the next member to be abstracted knowing how you're coping with living here, just to break out their persona would try to understand and help you.

Caine is definitely the most uneasy member to hang out with, being the know it all and so forth running the circus. You might call to him to ask any questions or any rules and logic you need to understand living in the digital circus and write it down in notes, though might use that information to Pomni for understanding and finding a way out. While Caine is generally cheerful and willing to help you, you can't help but sense there's something uncanny about him outside of his strange appearance. Just the understanding of the concept of Abstraction sends shivers down your spine despite him telling you not to worry about it too much and motivates you to leave even more. Bubble appearing out of nowhere would startle you and probably pop them without Caine's permission via instinct and habit if they kept interrupting you.

How do you think the main digital circus characters would react to a teen being transported there who's also a troublemaker similar to Jax?

I think it would also be funny if they looked up to Jax for that reason and just followed him around talking to him like a regular kid excited- Can you also write how they would react to that too?

A teen Reader would probably have the most meltdowns out of everybody.

Caine, Zooble, Jax & teenage Reader

Caine

★ He sees you as an imprisonable youngster who should be treated gently. Consequences for your bad behavior are nonexistent. As long as you promise not to do it again. Leaving you with too much energy and not enough supervision.

★ It’s an open secret that you're his favorite. Mess up, and he laughs it off. “They’re learning! It's all just trial and error!” But Caine is only this lenient with you because he sees you as an innocent child. Nobody else could get away with the things you do on a daily basis.

★ Caine is convinced that Jax is a bad influence. Making you misbehave. He always blames him for things you do, to the delight of Zooble. Punishing him for "manipulating you" and "corrupting the youth."

Zooble

★ Zooble likes you. They really do. But at the same time, you piss them off. Pushing every button they have on purpose. Testing their patience until Zooble finally snaps. "Could you shut up for five seconds?!" Then feeling bad about it afterwards.

★ After l living in the Circus for a while, Zooble forgot you were a teenager. You act so adult sometimes. But you're not an adult. Just a scared kid. It hits them when, after a long day, you lash out at everyone and yell "Just leave me alone!" while running to your room. Slamming the door behind you.

★ In the suggestion box adventure, Zooble specified that you shouldn't be allowed in the bar. Caine ignored this. Letting you join the others with one condition. That you don't drink. And you did just that. But snatched a bottle of champagne while Zooble wasn't looking...

Jax

★ You think he's fun to be around. Laughing at his bad jokes and following along with the terrible decisions he's made. Wherever he is, you're sure to be close by. Effectively becoming his problem. But he tells everyone you're your own problem.

★ Jax refers to you as "the kid" and wont use your actual name. But on the rare occasion he does, something is usually wrong. Like you messed up or got hurt. Pulling out the full name like an angry parent. "What the hell were you thinking Y/n?!?"

★ When you get irrationally mad at him for whatever small reason, as teens are prone to do, he acts genuinely hurt. Not in a "How dare you!" kind of way. More of a "The hell did I do?" way. Later, he might throw a snack at you while saying "Have you calmed down?"
