Vash was super hard to pin down ngl! Went through a couple of other gem types and then it was like wait a second, Rutile! It'll make sense, trust me on this.

For a brief moment, Wolfwood leaned into the affectionate gesture. Alas, his eyes snapped open, when he realized what he was doing. To save face, the idiot nip the blond’s hand.

And maybe it could be said that suppressing his powers and spending that much extra time acting 'human' could be part of it? He wasn't sure what his counterpart's course through life has been, maybe things just are different in those little ways. Or not so little, in this case.

Vash laughs. "Is it particularly difficult to find pants long enough to fit comfortably???"

| 🗡 | He knew when it happened. It was a slow pulling sensation, until something in his mind snapped and the ever present feeling of Vash was just--gone. It was usually distant and mostly unintelligible that far away but since the gifting of that little bit of himself, it had grown steadier. The simple, elegant knife that stayed with Vash always had given him a stronger connection to his brother, in a way.

"Vash?" In enough of a way that when Vash just vanished from the back of his awareness pain and panic burst inside him as if he'd been wounded with a physical weapon. "VASH!"

Knives's hands were numb and the items he'd held fell to the floor. Panic seized him to the point he couldn't breathe. What had happened to his brother? Had--had someone actually managed to best him to the point of-- Impossible. It was not possible for Vash to be beaten by anyone. No the the point of...

Knives left in with a tumultuous rush of power and speed he would otherwise have avoided using. He was following that tiny beacon of his knife. Wherever it is, Vash must with it. The connection had been so strong the moment before it snapped out of existence. Could his power have been used up? He thought he'd been keeping track of that, too. He was sure Vash hadn't been excessively using it.... had he? Too many things boiled in Knives's mind, it threatened to overwhelm him in the same way his fear of humans had swamped his entire being as a child. But this was the fear of having lost his own brother, the only one that ever fucking mattered in the first place--

When he found Vash, he wasn't sure of the feelings coursing through him. He was alive! The shock of it dropped Knives to his knees, his bladed wings collapsing into him painfully and another sliver of black colored the front of his otherwise pale hair.

"Vash..." Now that he stood before his brother, he realized he did not know how to react. He had expected so many things--to show up and slaughter anyone in sight who dared to touch him; or discover him crumpled with blackened hair and gone forever; too many scenarios he could not think too closely about. This still was the brother who had actually strangled him when he was powerless, and left him alone for whoever to come find him weakened and wounded.

With help from...others, he was coming to terms with that. Fear was a very real, if secondary, feeling mixed with the rest.

"You--you're..." He couldn't feel or sense him at all--even if he was sitting right in front of him. Is this... what they had sensed when he lost his power, before? Knives's hands clenched into fists, trying to hide how they shook with the adrenaline and panic that had brought him here. Trying to find some kind of composure.

"Who did this?" was all he managed to coherently ask.

| 🌱 | It’s hard to watch the other Vash go through such a range of painful emotions. It reminded him of his youth and all the mistakes he’d made. And who knew for sure how much of their pasts were alike or different? If only he could offer some some sentiment that would ease the troubles he was experiencing.
