It's that moment of, 'Nothing will ever be the same.' And that can be something of your own doing. Like, it goes up in flames, and--he's at the flame, like he did that, right."

Taliesin: "And the background--"

Adrienne: "Yeah, originally we were gonna have just his house, and then you--

Taliesin: "I was like, 'No, no, no.' Yeah. I have a...there's nothing more Caleb, and there's nothing that ties him more to this--cause of his obsession about this one bad decision that ruined everything--is that...he built a magic a tower. He built a magic, happy tower, filled with wonder and cats, and then the top floor is a recreation of his house that he burned down. So his house is sitting here at the top of The Tower, it's literally...so that wonderful place, technically speaking, is always on fire and it's always 'his fault,' and I was just---'Oh. That's rough buddy...'"

AHH oh....my heart......it still makes me weak that Caleb built a tower that was such a reflection--a physical manifestation--of all his love, and it's still a place where he's haunted and tormented by the most painful parts of his past. Enshrines it.

Thinking always of Caleb caught in the blazing fire of The Tower, and how Molly ran to douse the flames and gave him a forehead kiss the first time he ever saw that look in Caleb's eyes. The difference between Caleb's fall in The Tower--what's meant to be an objective, omniscient perspective--and the Caleb we see in Molly's deck as The Magician. Molly seeing him as, "softness and light."

Thinking of Taliesin saying how rough it is that Caleb would still torment himself in the tower. Thinking of Kingsley one day feeling exactly the same, telling Caleb he doesn't have to keep hurting himself like that--

taking a break from neining to do some cleaning but man I love how nosy they were. Like the Mighty Nein were always just up in everyone's business, just crashing revolutionary meetings and bothering town criers and also, crucially, interacting in weird new groups. Nott and Molly going off to talk is what gave us the "only steal from grumpy people" line that comes up to devastating effect later; on some level, breaking out of established groups is what gives you material for good improv later and I think the Nein are just a near flawless example of a party where every single character had some interesting one-on-ones with every other, often in unexpected ways.

Another thing they have to keep in animation is the disguises Caleb casts on everyone to go into the Beast City in Xhorhas. All of these disguises are particularly wonderful, we have a return of the twins and Taliesin going full Jim Henson, but specifically this:

Beau: Can you make me a dude tiefling? A red, shifty-looking tiefling? Red skin, deep eyes. 

Matt: There you go. You are a red tiefling. It's pretty accurate as you can envision, at least what you can see of yourself. You don't really have any reflective surface to check, but based on this, not bad. 

Beau/Marisha: I check my pants.

Matt: You're a dude tiefling. Since Caleb's really only seen one dude's tiefling before-- (laughter and applause). Long may he reign indeed.

Travis: Holy shit.

Laura: He's only seen one dude's tiefling. 

Beau: Why is just my dick purple? I don't understand. There's a gradient. 

Liam: It's just a sunny-side up egg.

Beau: My happy trail has an ombre. This is incredible! 

Matt: The benefits of the tiefling. 

Sam: Long and wide may he reign! 

Matt: Anyway.

Yasha's first Stormlord dream is making me WEEP in hindsight, especially right after she collects and presses some flowers. You walk the right path. Remember who you were but decide who you want to become. Thinking of Jester scrying on her while she cut down the members of the Cobalt Soul, crying while she did it. Even in Obann's thrall when she had no control, she didn't forget. She wants to have flowers and be gentle, but she also wants to protect others from the kind of violence she's seen and dealt. She can be all of it! And one day soon she will!

It's looking like there's a growing divide between Campaign watchers and Tlovm watchers in terms of like. We're here for the characters. 12-episode seasons aren't. They can't be. I'm already making peace with everything we'll lose in the Mighty Nein show, and I know I will enjoy it for what it is but I also know that almost nothing that made the story so special will translate to the screen, because turning it into a show automatically means (in this day and age) that plot must be the number one priority. They've already come out and told us it's going to be different, the characters we know and love but new stories.

Because that's how this has to work. And I feel bad for campaign one lovers, because while it is certainly the easier of the two to translate to a big, overarching story, even though it's a more "traditional" high fantasy story with easier archetypal characters, the archetypes and the plot aren't what cemented most people's love for the campaign. So much of the love for critical role is stored in the interpersonal dynamics and the payoff that comes from hundreds of hours of tiny interactions that one day become cornerstones of development and even affect or dictate the plot.

There's no room for that. There's no room for Bard's Lament in a story that cannot afford to remove and replace a main character. A lot of tlovm is for people who have been here for all of campaign one. Most of it, however, isn't. It's for a new crowd. While CR may have creative control, you can bet your ass that there were months and years devoted to figuring out how to map a character-focused love of the show into a plot that hits the right beats to be viable in the show market.

And it worked. Tlovm has consistently high viewing numbers, and its popularity has brought and will continue to bring new people into the universe who have never interacted with CR previously. That's not a bad thing - imagine finishing your favorite show and discovering it has another FIVE HUNDRED HOURS of the equivalent of behind the scenes content. That's incredible for these newcomers. But man, it is in many ways a loss for us.
