CALL ME KUCHU 2012 | Dir. In America, the term 'gay' carries multiple definitions. In Uganda, the same term, kuchu, only carries a negative one.

Ugandan Parliament passed an Anti-Homosexuality bill in 2009, condemning HIV-positive men to death sentences and mandatory "outing" of closeted gay citizens. 

Filmmakers Katherine Fairfax Wright and Malika Zouhali-Worrall shot the documentary, Call Me Kuchu, about the struggles within the Ugandan LGBT community. 

With the Marriage Equality bill being a prevalent topic in the United States currently, this film offers a perspective of the government's heavy influence on how gay culture is viewed in Uganda.
