I am enjoying playing the metal gears on their own merit but also Death Stranding is always on my mind and I have a couple of side notes (that will be updated as I go forward as I'm just at the beginning of Snake Eater):
At the end of MGS2, Snake's voiceover basically enunciates the themes of Death Stranding:
Life isn't just about passing on your genes. We can leave behind much more than just DNA. Through speech, music, literature and movies... what we've seen, heard, felt... anger, joy and sorrow... these are the things I will pass on. That's what I live for. We need to pass the torch, and let our children read our messy and sad history by its light. We have all the magic of the digital age to do that with. The human race will probably come to an end some time, and new species may rule over this planet. Earth may not be forever, but we still have the responsibility to leave what traces of life we can. Building the future and keeping the past alive are one and the same thing.
MGS3's gimmick for the save screen is to have your liaison Para Medic talk to you about famous and lesser known genre movies from the first half of the 20th century. Let me tell you I jumped on the chair when she brought up a 1959 movie featuring Gregory Peck and Ava Gardner called On The Beach:
In 1964, World War III has devastated the Northern Hemisphere, killing all humans there. Air currents are slowly carrying the fallout to the Southern Hemisphere, where Melbourne, Australia will be the last major city on Earth to perish. The American nuclear submarine USS Sawfish, commanded by Capt. Dwight Towers, arrives in Melbourne and is placed under Royal Australian Navy command. Peter Holmes, a young Australian Naval officer with a wife and infant child, is assigned to be Towers' liaison. Holmes invites Towers to his home for a party, where Towers meets Julian Osborn, a depressive nuclear scientist who helped build the bombs, and Moira Davidson, a lonely alcoholic with whom Towers develops a tentative attraction. Although Davidson falls in love with Towers, he finds himself unable to return her feelings, because he can't bring himself to admit his wife and children in the US are dead. (full summary on wikipedia)
The plot is... overall pretty bleak, which might align with what Kojima said about having rewritten a lot of part 2 as he reconsidered what it meant to "connect" after the pandemic. There are also interesting connections to the presence of the George Miller character in DS2, what with the overall importance of Australia and the presence of a lethal car race. Another things that's Classic Kojima is a mid-story twist about the initial mission being actually for nothing (one LOSTheads are probably familiar with), but we've already been told by the DS2 trailer in pretty clear terms that Sam has been deceived, possibly more than once.
Idk, these might be all pretty obvious parallels and callbacks but I'm also under the impression that few people played the metal gears with Death Stranding in mind rather than the opposite so maybe it's worth jotting down.

Watch: Thieves hit Westlake Village ATM with car
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help tracking down two men who used a car to uproot an ATM in Westlake Village, then burned the machine and their getaway vehicle after getting the cash out. The ATM at a Mobil gas station at 942 S. Westlake Blvd. was reported stolen just after 5 a.m., Capt. Davidson said. Two men dislodged the machine from its place on the ground, then…

Investigating Law Enforcement Misconduct in Lee County, Florida
Tumblr media
In Lee County, Florida, a series of troubling allegations has emerged regarding misconduct among law enforcement officials, raising questions about accountability and transparency within the Lee County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO). As a community grapples with these revelations, an investigation into the history of several officers reveals a pattern of questionable behavior, public complaints, and a potential cover-up culture that may have shielded officers from scrutiny.
Key Figures Under Investigation
Our investigation focused on several key figures within the LCSO:
In reviewing public records and complaints, we found a concerning lack of transparency regarding their conduct. Although specific details about individual complaints were difficult to uncover due to the opaque nature of internal investigations, some patterns began to emerge.
Allegations and Complaints
Deputy Bradley Davidson has faced multiple complaints over the years, with allegations ranging from excessive use of force during arrests to improper conduct during traffic stops. These complaints haven’t always led to public disciplinary actions, raising concerns about the LCSO’s commitment to accountability.
Sgt. Christopher Meyers has been reported for failing to conduct thorough investigations in several cases, leading to significant delays in justice for victims. This failure, noted in community feedback, has prompted calls for greater oversight of his activities.
Deputy Alexander Ricci was involved in a controversial incident that resulted in injuries to a civilian. Although the details were initially reported, the case seemingly faded from public view, with no further updates on any disciplinary actions taken against him.
Capt. John Desrosiers has a history of desk duty assignments following complaints related to his leadership style and handling of subordinates. While not officially labeled as misconduct, these assignments raise questions about the LCSO’s handling of officer behavior.
Deputy Frank Marchetti has faced allegations of engaging in biased policing practices. Community members have expressed concern over his interactions with minority populations, prompting further scrutiny.
Deputy Frank Marchetti has faced allegations of engaging in biased policing practices. Community members have expresseLt. Vincent Amoroso and Sgt. Patrick Harrold were implicated in a recent incident where they allegedly failed to perform their duties adequately, causing significant delays in reporting a critical event. Their inaction has led to community outrage and demands for accountability. concern over his interactions with minority populations, prompting further scrutiny.
The Silence Surrounding Public Injuries
One of the most alarming aspects of this investigation is the apparent lack of transparency surrounding injuries sustained by the public during police encounters. Several incidents involving excessive force by deputies have been reported, yet public information on these cases has been scant. Investigative efforts have indicated that some injuries may have been intentionally minimized or omitted from public records to protect the reputation of the LCSO.
Allegations Against Sheriff Carmine Marceno
The misconduct within the LCSO is further complicated by allegations against Sheriff Carmine Marceno himself, who is currently under investigation by the FBI for alleged misappropriation of funds. A recording from his challenger, Michael Hollow, claims that Marceno misused funds to purchase a luxury vehicle for his father. This has raised concerns regarding financial transparency and ethical conduct at the highest levels of the department.
Calls for Accountability and Reform
Community leaders and activists have expressed frustration over the apparent lack of accountability within the LCSO. Many are calling for independent oversight to ensure that complaints against officers are investigated thoroughly and transparently. The public’s trust in law enforcement depends on a system that holds officers accountable for their actions, regardless of rank or position.
As these allegations continue to unfold, it is imperative for the Lee County community to demand transparency and accountability from their law enforcement agencies. The repeated pattern of misconduct, coupled with the silence surrounding public injuries and complaints, calls for a comprehensive reevaluation of policing practices in the area.
Conclusion
The investigation into law enforcement misconduct in Lee County reveals a troubling landscape where accountability appears to be lacking. As the community seeks justice and transparency, the need for reform and oversight becomes increasingly clear. The actions of these officers and the leadership of Sheriff Carmine Marceno must be scrutinized to ensure that the citizens of Lee County receive the fair and just treatment they deserve.

“  I  haven’t  done  anything,  what  are  you  talking  about?  ”
Flashback to when they were younger padawans
“So you’re telling me that if I open the fridge I’m not going to get covered in something? I saw you, you were acting all kinds of shady a few minutes ago. I just want a glass of lemonade Matt. If you didn’t do anything, then you won’t have a problem opening the fridge.” She stated, standing there with her arms crossed over her chest. The twins were in bed and their parents had gone out for a ‘date night’. All she wanted was to have some lemonade with some cookies and watch the Masterpiece Classic marathon that was going on, but No.

“But you promised me we were going to drink a little bit more!” Alexxis chuckled realizing she was a little bit drunk. “Ok, maybe you are right, maybe it’s late and we should get going” she tried to stand up and almost fell on her face. She was definitely drunk

It wasn’t too often that Olivia showed her vulnerability but Matt has caught her off guard and she didn’t know what to do. Should she shake it off or not? Looking at him, she decided to shake her head into a negation. “I’m good...I’ll be good, don’t worry”

“it kind of just happens. i don’t do anything special. i don’t light candles or wear anything skimpy --- unless i happen to already be wearing it. i don’t do the whole ‘netflix and chill’ thing either. if we end up hooking up when we’re watching movies then okay, but i’m never like ‘hey, we should watch movies and fuck so we miss 90% of the movie’. unless i’m taking a shift at the escort service. then i make things a little more special because it’s my job. but obviously, i’m not doing that as of late.”
