Magical guardian Py!! This is my magical girl sona design ✨

This is the page I drew when finalizing the concept and to serve as reference, but I plan to draw this design a lot more to represent myself! The little fox there is a little magical mascot/familiar based on an imaginary friend I made when I was little kid. I got some more notes about my process below!

A few years back I made a magical girl outfit design for myself because I love magical girl stories and designs, and you can do whatever you want forever! I HIGHLY recommend that anybody who feels comfortable depicting themselves to make a sona based around something you absolutely love. It's a lot of fun!!! I think at this point this design has gone through about 4 main iterations? I expect more tweaks in the future because I always like to have a design that reflects me and currently this is what I'm really vibing with! Tweaking this took SUCH a long time to get to something I really love right now, so this really feels like a triumph. When I set out to design this, I had created a bit of a wishlist of aesthetics and other elements I wanted, and then it was a matter of balancing everything visually and making some choices to remove and heavily tweak aspects of it so it wouldn't be too cluttered or lose visual harmony. I also played around with the lengths of different parts of the outfit for visual interest.

In this design are a few nods to some magical girl designs I still really love, but in recent time I feel like there's been a bit more inspiration from european renaissance fashion seeping in because I've been dabbling into period accurate costuming! Now, it's not at ALL accurate in this design but that's not really the point; I just wanted to give the sleeves and breeches that extra poof �� The rest of it just just really self indulgent, like the big butterfly wing cape was an ABSOLUTE must for me. My favourite colour is featured prominently. I wanted the inner wings and bow to look like the night sky or kind of galactic so that all those sparkles would really show up and evoke stars, but the orange pinks on other elements of the outfit compliment the blue-greens and give the look and overall sunset/sunrise at twilight vibe.

First of all, maybe this incoming fact gonna be confusing but please wait as I try to explain everything properly + nicely

I haven't read the series before

Actually Syaoran (Xiaolang-Chinese version) Li and Sakura Kinomoto are characters that becomes together on various (ani-manga) works made by CLAMP. CLAMP is the group of mangaka that has similar artstyle to the point they could draw a particular series as a whole... The most popular work they're made is "Cardcaptor Sakura (CCS)" - which recently have sequel named "Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card Arc"... In between the time of CCS & CCS: CCA, there's a work made by CLAMP which using aged up Syaoran and Sakura as the main couple for their shounen series "Tsubasa -RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE (TRC)". So in short, 3 groups of depiction of SAME pairing ahahahah : Classic SyaoSaku, CCS: Clear Card, and then TRC. The age of each is different (I forgot the exact number but imho not matter much) and have different story to make depiction of the pairing varies greatly - mostly from how Syaoran as the ML (Male Lead, and also Deuteragonist = like Frederick's role in the story of CPC) acts. That's very subjective which group depiction to like, but it's general consensus to agree that classis syaosaku is the best as refreshing - while the other two groups kinda too emo

recommend reading the manga or watching the anime first?

Oh boy, this the hardest question to answer personally as it's very subjective... Most people loves anime because it's give color and moving visual... while some people loves manga more because it's classic and gives some insights that anime staff usually cut off which make the fandom dubbed manga as the canon (official) while the anime is mere adaptations

Personally? I have eyestrain to make me impossible to watch multiple anime episodes in one go (unlike most people can) SO I always prefer reading manga because I can binge it...

BUT Syaoran and Sakura is a sweet pairing that has very special place in my heart, to the point that I like 2 versions of them altogether. Anime ofc always in color, so the fashion designs of them always nicely shown with the color as very close related to anime development - CCS is classic colored, TRC has melancholic coloring that memorable for sadness, and CCS: CCA is the recent version which so soft + sad

For beginner of a fandom that has no problem with their eyes as unlike me, I recommend the anime version first to get amazed with the colors. Anime also often time introducing characters first especially in the case we forgor or not make sure, so for the beginner it's very nice experience!!!

Then (or if have eye problem like me) after watch the anime, you could compare everything with the manga as original source. There's many differences between anime and manga, like there's costume designs that only appear in the anime - or certain parts of the story depicted differently in anime vs manga. CLAMP's most powerful quirk in their works is how they designing an outfit - everything always in minute detail that makes one thinks... Does this the very nice outfit?

All of the story of CLAMP where Syaoran and Sakura as the main couple depict them to need to have magical fights so they are in need for battle outfits. Although all of the battle outfits really nice, colorful and could be meaningful espc as relating to their story part, also very cute and powerful

Honestly I don't have favorite battle outfit of them yet, but like Frederick's - Syaoran's usual battle outfit is green. That's why I have no problem to imagine him in any of battle outfits

For Sakura as the protagonist, FL (Female Lead, like Gwen) - she had lots more of outfit designs than Syaoran's - but the reason varies and not because she loves sewing like Gwen... but because her cousin is a rich and multi-talented girl which adores her so much as she somehow could always prepare perfect outfit for the incoming magical battle [or in TRC, cuz she's a princess that going around with her Syaoran on many different worlds and universe]. Example! When in need to fight in the rainy situation, somehow her cousin already made a battle outfit that waterproof. Syaoran himself rarely change his battle outfit unlike Sakura, but he still has variations

Classic SyaoSaku (CCS)

From the original series of CCS! They're elementary school age pair ahahah, but that's what make their relationship journey to be much sweeter? No kisses (kiss is great and romantic, but why literal children should depicted kissing each other to shows their love to each other when another option is possible?) but lotta of hugs and many act of love that not related to skinships... Like giving each other a handmade teddy bear, protect each other on magical battle

If CPC is magical girl genre that allowing their love interest who gender is a male, so like GwenDerick - totally the similar outfit design could happen. All of GwenDerick outfits in the CPC are slay, even with Frederick mostly stuck in his casual Green Plaid Jacket ahaha while Gwen wardrope power +++

CCS: clear card (the sequel!) - They are in middle school now

^ battle outfits that are all green ahahahhaha <3 it so much Important difference in CCS: CCA, to the original version which is CCS - Their coloring espc at hair is much softer than the classic which make the color of the battle outfit overall changing to be looks softer and fits recent anime update

TRC (magical world/multi-verse travelling, HS age!)

The most edgy and emo pairing depiction of them lmao, and the one that highly detailed with accesories and stuffs so imho not really good to be replicated - but nice to see!!!

BONUS : GREEN BATTLE OUTFITS OF THEM

Hello! Sorry for bothering you but I wonder if you ever read/watch Card Captor Sakura, where the main endgame couple - Syaoran (Xiaolang) Li and Sakura Kinomoto - ends together is for me like Gwen x Frederick romantic relationship in both of look and love story. Gwen with her hibby of sewing could get a nice outfit (including magical girl dress if she like) and Frederick - Syaoran's outfit espc the battle outfit is 🟢green like the all of the color theme of Frederick. In nutshell, if you ever wonder what's Gwen and Frederick looks if they wear Sakura and Syaoran battle outfit? Thank you!!! Sorry for trouble

Sorry, but I haven't read the series before. I took a look at their battle outfit designs and they're pretty cute I could totally see them wearing it. I don't know if I'll have time to read it since finals are coming up(I'm in high school btw). When I make time, would you recommend reading the manga or watching the anime first?

Some earlier art of Ingo has him blushing when he's with Ansy... did he used to have a bit of a crush on her? 🤭 That's very cute!

So in every instance, Ingo’s actually blushing out of embarassment or awkwardness - from all I researched about him & his character (voice lines, dialogue, general sweep of the Submas community), he seems to be pretty easily flustered, a common trait for more overly-proper characters 🤭

First one’s because Emmet’s being a teasing younger brother (lol), second one’s because he feels embarrassed for accidentally making Ansy cry with his volume (especially when she was younger, she was sensitive to loud voices / sounds), & the third one’s because Mizumi’s clinging to his coat (which is why Mizumi is also blushing).

That all being said, Ansy did have a cute little girl crush on him for a little while sometime after befriending the twins - they’re 19 while she’s 15 (she’s just short lol). I was inspired by Sakura’s crush on Yukito from Cardcaptor Sakura - very innocent & sweet, but didn’t go that deep (also a much smaller age gap haha…).

Ingo (& Emmet) noticed, but as I shared before, Ingo decided to not treat her any differently unless she were to try confessing her feelings or something (which didn’t happen - she just got a little extra shy around him, admired him, & gave him little gifts before she eventually grew out of it). By BW2 when they were both young adults (Ansy 24, Ingo 28 - I made the time jump bigger between the games) they were just good friends. ^_^

Partially thanks to how he decided to conduct that situation, he eventually served as a very good example for her later on when she did eventually date & marry Ikrit, who shows her a very similar kindness that Ingo did as her friend. 🩵

🧚🏾‍♀️🗝️Lockette Basix (Magic Winx) Animation Process🗝️🧚🏾‍♀️

Two straight weeks of drawing, coloring, thinking and overthinking and I’m very pleased with the results! It’s my first fully rendered and composited animation since October of last year and my first that’s fully animated on 2’s (I like animating on 2’s and 3’s typically). I’m still working out the kinks in Davinci to make a retro filter to make my animations look pre-2010’s, but I think I’m making great progress! ❤️

I had a lot of fun with this and I can definitely see myself animating the rest of it in the future! But for now, my CSP needs a break and my brain has been conjuring up ideas for Amore and Digit 🤔 We’ll see where that takes me

I had a dream the other night where I found an adorable handmade Cardcaptor Sakura-inspired costume at a craft market. I loved the clowncore look of the romper and it was made with a super-soft fabric, maybe a velour.

It wasn’t hard to find a reference similar enough to the outfit I dreamt so I drew this little portrait of me and Sakura-chan to commemorate it! ☆
